• FTP exception 501 "pathname" more than 8 characters

  I am trying to access a file via a URI using the FTP protocol. For obvious security reasons I had to make some changes but this is where the problems seem to be coming from. My URI is as follows: ftp://user:[email protected]/u/Bigpathname/XYZ/ABC/BigPathname/bigpathname/xyz/abc/MY_LOG.LOG And I see this exception: sun.net.ftp.FtpProtocolException: CWD Bigpathname:501 A qualifier in "Bigpathname" is more than 8 characters This is really confusing as I can access the file from a Windows 7 command line with the CD command just fine. Both one directory at a time and as a full path. I found one article mentioning that MVS file names must be 8 or fewer characters but this does not explain how I can get to these same files from my command line! They do exist there is data there that I can download manual but I can not get there via a URI in Java. PS I use .toURL().openStream() to get files on my local machine just fine, it only fails when I try to get them from my server. EDIT October 1st I am able to access files on the MVS host using FileZilla and the basic FTP client from the Windows 7 command line - but I still cannot get them from a URI/URL. I downloaded a very basic Java built FTP client and tried accessing the same file in my program from there and the path works but because my file name has a dot in it "MY_LOG.LOG" I am getting File does not exist 501 Invalid data set name "MY_LOG.LOG". Use MVS Dsname conventions. I am utterly perplexed by this...

I think this is what is causing the problem but it doesnt make sense I just want to return it as a string. It is only happening on this one field name, I can get every other field in the row but this one it gives me the error. I am getting an exception. The exception I am getting is No Dialect mapping for JDBC type: -1; nested exception is org.hibernate.HibernateException How do you query for a specific column on a row in hibernate?

  I'm wondering if I can use a static variable for optimization: public function Bar() { static $i = moderatelyExpensiveFunctionCall(); if ($i) { return something(); } else { return somethingElse(); } } I know that once $i is initialized, it won't be changed by by that line of code on successive calls to Bar(). I assume this means that moderatelyExpensiveFunctionCall() won't be evaluated every time I call, but I'd like to know for certain. Once PHP sees a static variable that has been initialized, does it skip over that line of code? In other words, is this going to optimize my execution time if I make a lot of calls to Bar(), or am I wasting my time?

• asp.net mvc 2 multithread

  I'm getting some weird behavior in asp.net MVC2 (at least it's not what I'm expecting). I have a controller httppost action that processes credit cards. I'm setting a session variable on the server to let me know if a user has attempted to process a card. I clear that session variable when I'm done. I am doing some very quick posts to test the process and the session variable is coming back null everytime because I clear the session variable at the end of the process. I have some debug prints that show me that the all requests are processed synchronously. That is...the first attempt occurs, it fails, session variable is cleared, second attempt tries and fails and the variable is cleared, etc... My first thought was that this was a side effect of debugging and that it just lined requests up for debugging purposes using the local webserver. So I put it on a development server and the same thing is occurring. Multiple submits/posts are processed synchronously. I even put a System.Threading.Sleep in there to make sure it would stop right after I set the session variable and it still won't even START the second request until the first is done. Has anyone else seen this behavior? My understanding was that a worker process was spawned for each request and that these actions could happen asychronously. Here's some psuedo code if (Session["CardCharged"] != null) return RedirectToAction("Index", "Problem"); Session["CardCharged"] = false; //starting the process System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(10000); //charge card here if (!providerResponse.IsApproved) { System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("failed"); Session["CardCharged"] = null; //have to allow them to charge again since this failed return View(myModel); } Session["CardCharged"] = true; return RedirectToAction("Index", "OrderComplete"); I should mention that my code ALWAYS fails the credit card check for testing purposes. I'm trying to test the situation where processing is STILL occurring and redirect the user elsewhere. I have set a dummy session variable elsewhere to assure that the session id "sticks".   In PHP, is there a reliable and good way of getting these things: Protocol: i.e. http or https Servername: e.g. localhost Portnumber: e.g. 8080 I can get the server name using $_SERVER['SERVER_NAME']. I think that I didn't get well recursion but all examples I can find doesn't have statements after the recursive call. All I want to know is when are statements like System.out.printf("%d",node.data) going to execute before the method return?

• Running unittest with typical test directory structure.

  The very common directory structure for even a simple Python module seems to be to separate the unit tests into their own test directory: new_project/ antigravity/ antigravity.py test/ test_antigravity.py setup.py etc. for example see this Python project howto. My question is simply What's the usual way of actually running the tests? I suspect this is obvious to everyone except me, but you can't just run python test_antigravity.py from the test directory as its import antigravity will fail as the module is not on the path. I know I could modify PYTHONPATH and other search path related tricks, but I can't believe that's the simplest way - it's fine if you're the developer but not realistic to expect your users to use if they just want to check the tests are passing. The other alternative is just to copy the test file into the other directory, but it seems a bit dumb and misses the point of having them in a separate directory to start with. So, if you had just downloaded the source to my new project how would you run the unit tests? I'd prefer an answer that would let me say to my users: "To run the unit tests do X."

I am writing a web application that will contain some news with dates of publication, and I want the client to see the date of publication of the news in the form of corresponding local time. However, I do not know in which time zone the client is located. I have three questions. I have to ask just in case: does DateTimeOffset.UtcNow always returns the correct UTC date and time, regardless of whether the server is dependent on daylight savings time? For example, if the first time I get the value of this property for two minutes before daylight savings time (or before the transition from daylight saving time back) and the second time in 2 minutes after the transfer, whether the value of properties in all cases differ by only 4 minutes? • Behavior of Struts2 and convention-plugin when there is Index(extends ActionSupport)

  We have an Action class named 'Index' immediately under com.example.common.action and is annotated @ParentPackage('default') which is declared in package directive in struts.xml and has "/" for its namespace and extends "struts-default". It also declares @Result so that it responses with jsp files corresponding the string values returned by its execute() method. In our struts.xml, the following struts setting is configured along with other necessary configurations that are needed for convention-plugin. <constant name="struts.action.extension" value=","/> When accessing /my_context/none_existing_path, the request apparently hits this Index class and the contents of the jsp declared in the Index's @Result section gets returned. However, if we provide /my_context/, we receive the following error: HTTP Status 404-There is no Action mapped for namespace[/] and action name [] associated with context path [/my_context]. We want to know the reason why accessing /my_context/none_existing_path, where none_existing_path has no matching action, can fallback to Index class, but error is returned when when the URL requested is just /my_context/. Currently, our convention-plugin settings are declared as follows: <constant name="struts.convention.package.locators.basePackage" value="com.example"/> <constant name="struts.convention.package.locators" value="action"/> Strangely, if we changed the value of the struts.convention.package.locators.basePackage to om.example.common, in which the aforementioned Index file can be immediately found by narrowing the search scope, requesting /my_context/ displays the content of the jsps declared in @Result section of the Index class. However, as our action classes are distributed throughout the com.example.[a-z].action packages, where [a-z] represents the large volume of directories we have in our package structure, we cannot use this trick as a workaround. We have also tried placing index.jsp at the top level of the class path, and have the index.jsp redirect to /my_context/index, which worked but not what we want. Could this be a bug?
