• Python subprocess.Popen hangs in 'for l in p.stdout' until p terminates, why?

  I have that code: #!/usr/bin/python -u localport = 9876 import sys, re, os from subprocess import * tun = Popen(["./newtunnel", "22", str(localport)], stdout=PIPE, stderr=STDOUT) print "** Started tunnel, waiting to be ready ..." for l in tun.stdout: sys.stdout.write(l) if re.search("Waiting for connection", l): print "** Ready for SSH !" break The "./newtunnel" will not exit, it will constantly output more and more data to stdout. However, that code will not give any output and just keeps waiting in the tun.stdout. When I kill the newtunnel process externally, it flushes all the data to tun.stdout. So it seems that I can't get any data from the tun.stdout while it is still running. Why is that? How can I get the information? Note that the default bufsize for Popen is 0 (unbuffered). I can also specify bufsize=0 but that doesn't change anything.

• Many Associations Leading to Slow Query

  I currently have a database that has a lot of many to many associations. I have services which have many variations which have many staff who can perform the variation who then have details on themselves like name, role, etc... At 10 services with 3 variations each and up to 4 out of 20 staff attached to each service even doing something as getting all variations and the staff associated with them takes 4s. Is there a way I can reduce these queries that take a while to process? I've cut down the queries by doing eager loading in my DBM to reduce the problems that arise from 1+N issues, but still 4s is a long query for just a testing stage. Is there a structure out there that would help make such nested many to many associations much quicker to select? Maybe combining everything past the service level into a single table with a 'TYPE' column ?? I'm just not knowledgable enough to know the solution that turns this 4s query into a 300MS query... Any suggestions would be helpful.

  So right now, I'm just using a basic form to check a password. I want it to check the password and basically remain on page.html so I can use JavaScript to alert incorrect password or something. • Qt/C++ event loop exception handling

  I am having an application heavily based on QT and on a lot of third party libs. THese happen to throw some exceptions in several cases. In a native Qt App this causes the application to abort or terminate. Often the main data model is still intact as I am keeping it in pure Qt with no external data. So I am thinking that I could also just recover by telling the user that there has occured an error in this an that process and he should save now or even decide to continue working on the main model. Currently the program jsut silently exits without even telling a story. Please help.

• How to use Visual Studio and IIS7 together?

  Hi folks, i'm trying to use Visual Studio 2010 (but this also happens with VS2008) as my web server for all locahost development. When i go into the properties for my web application (sigh, it's a legacy web FORMS app) and check the Web tab .. then check the Use Local IIS Web Server option ... it only allows me to create a virtual directory against a website. Why?! this is not what I want :( I wanted to have my own IIS7 website (no virtual directory) and debug against that. Can anyone help me? As a side note, i tried to use the third option Use Custom Web Server .. which ends up pointing to my localhost iis7 server. Now, this works ... but when i wish to Start Debugging .. it errors :( (it's not sure how to attach to that process or something?) So - can anyone out there please help?

  Hi all, Consider the following code (written with Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0) using System; namespace DumpTester { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { int test = new Random().Next(); Console.WriteLine(test + new Random().Next()); Test(); } private static void Test() { throw new Exception(); } } } When running outside of Visual Studio you get this nice window of Microsoft Windows 7 that it is looking for a solution. Obviously, since this is my app, there is none. At that point I create a full dump file of my application with for example Process Explorer. I then open that dmp file from its location and try to debug. But whatever I try, it can't find the location of the source symbols. I tried putting the pdb next to the dump but it just doesn't find it. What am I doing wrong?

When I put a & in front of sdata_ptr it calms down but I'm not sure if it will work. Isn't what I wrote above supposed to be true?

• ActionScript 3 Context Menu Per Sprite?

  is it not possible to have different context menus for different sprites on the stage? i've tried adding a custom context menu to a sprite but it's applied to the entire stage: mySprite.contextMenu = myMenu; then after reading the documentation where it states: You can attach a ContextMenu object to a specific button, movie clip, or text field object, or to an entire movie level. You use the menu property of the Button, MovieClip, or TextField class to do this. ok, so i though i had to write it like: mySprite.menu.contextMenu = myMenu; only to be greeted with a nice migration issue stating that menu is legacy code and to use contextMenu instead. ??? um, thanks for the headsup, documentation. this process would be entirely much more easier if i could extend the ContextMenu, but for some reason it's marked as "final" and can't be extended... i'm sure adobe's reasons for finalizing the context menu class are as good as their reasons for including misleading documentation. thoughts?

Crawling a whole website takes up alot of resources and time. I've found out that wget is the best option for downloading the markup for a whole site. I plan on using PHP/MySQL (maybe even CodeIgniter), but I'm not quite sure if that's the right way to do it. There's always someone who recommends Python, Ruby or Perl. I only know PHP and a little bit Rails. I've also found a great HTML DOM parser class in PHP on SourceForge. But, the thing is, I need some feedback on what I should and should not do. Everything from how I should make the crawl process to what I should be checking for in regards to SEO and WCAG. So, what comes to your mind when you hear this?

• What is the correct method to load an XML file and re-write it as a CSV? (C# Only)

  I have a XML file that I want to load into an unknown object type. (I say unknown object type because I am not sure what direction to go) Once I have the data loaded I need to do some processing on certain elements that are now loaded into the new object. For sake of example, we can say that the xml file is full of elements named <car> and within the car element I need to process the <mileage> element. Uncompress the ZIP file, get the content (which is in XML format) from this file into a String. 3. Pass this content into another method for parsing and further processing. Now, my concerns here is the XML file may be of Huge size say like '100MB', and my JVM has memory of only 512 MB, so how can I get this content into Chunks and pass for Parsing and then insert the data into PL/SQL tables. Since there can be multiple requests running at the same time and considering 512MB of memory what will be the best possible to process this. How I can get the data into Chunks and pass it as Stream for XML parsing. I googled on this, but didnt find any implementation. :( Thanks,

  So i have started building android from scratch and after lot of effort finally landed up to a point where i have the OUT folder consisting of all the required IMG files for an emulator to run. Like the system.img ramdisk.img userdata-qemu.img So after that i ran the emulator command so that means the OUT directory was valid and could easily be used to create any other bootable medium. What i want to accomplish Creating the iso file from all those img files found at the end of building process,or a way to just create an iso out of that complete OUT folder. any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

  Hello everyone: We know that malloc() and new operation allocate memory from heap dynamically, but where does heap reside? Does each process have its own private heap in the namespace for dynamic allocation or the OS have a global one shared by all the processes. What's more, I read from a textbook that once memory leak occurs, the missing memory cannot be reused until next time we restart our computer. Is this thesis right? That is, content creators will be able to sell content through our site and we take a small percentage of the revenue. Can anyone recommend an online payment service that supports this model? We're also interested in: Accept all major credit cards Being able to do international transactions in the appropriate local currency Recurring transactions (monthly, yearly, etc.) Additionally, if the service provided a Java API for integration or the ability to broker PayPal transactions that would be an added bonus. • Waiting for a background operation to complete

  I have been suffering from the all too common 'Waiting for a background operation to complete...' message in Visual Studio 2012 (Professional) for a while now but it has been fairly sporadic. Lately though, I am really struggling to use Visual Studio as pretty much whenever i try and do anything with any Razor views (mostly clicking to move the cursor) visual studio hangs and the above message appears for about a minute at a time. (If when its finished doing stuff i then click in the view again, the process repeats, and repeats, and repeats.....) I have searched high and low, and read loads of articles regarding this and peoples suggestions and tried changing indentation settings, resetting settings, etc but none have worked. Has anyone come across something else that may work as this is seriously impeding my ability to use visual studio and sadly provoking much cursing.

  I have a php page called 'dataFetch.php' which sits on one webserver. On another webserver, I have a JS file which issues JSON calls to dataFetch. dataFetch connects to a database, retrieves data and puts it in a JSON format which is fed back to the calling program. In IE, this works fine. In other browsers it does not because of the cross domain restriction. To get across the cross-domain restriction, I make a call to a file, proxy.php, which then makes the call to dataFetch. My problem now is that proxy.php retrieves the file from dataFetch but the JS script file no longer sees the response from proxy.php as a JSON format and so I can't process it. Can anybody help me out?

The reason I ask is that I'm simply curious if there is a way to make above more concise and idiomatic. What I'm looking for is along the lines of: for item in sequence: #process item *else*: #handle the empty sequence case (assuming "else" here worked only on empty sequences, which I know it doesn't)
