• Can NTFS-Search(An OSS project) scan any file on NTFS volume?

  I want to apply NTFS-Search to our project. Our project have to find the files which we specified.(fast and exactly!) But I'm not sure the program(NTFS-Search) works well. What if the file specified is system file? What if the file is being opened by a process with NO_READ_SHARE_MODE? Do you think NTFS-Search can find any files? I don't know about NTFS filesystem well. So I can't find the answer myself. Is there anyone who knows that? I tried to find their email address, but I couldn't find. Thanks in advance.

The problem is that main script must not wait for external PHP script to finish. Result of external script is important, so exec('php -f file.php &') is not an option.

• Call a JavaScript function in a Google Chrome window from a vb.net program

  I am having a real problem with this. I want to know if it is possible to run/call a javascript function in a Google Chrome web browser window from a VB.net application. The scenario is that i want to monitor the pc activity (which i know how to) and then if a certain event is met (for example, high ram usage) then it calls a JavaScript function in a Google Chrome web browser window so the website is updated. Sort of like a bridge. The only bit it need to know is the vb.net code for how to access a chrome window and invoke a javascript function if its possible. I assume i will need to use process handlers? Any help is appreciated.

• WCF web.config is getting overwritten after every compilation?

  Hi I have a Silverlight application calling a WCF service. SimplehttpBinding stuff. Every I make changes to silverlight xaml code, the web.config gets refrshed also. Even if make any changes to web.cofig file, they get overwritten too. Its as if, some other process is writing these files. Why is that happening? How can I make sure that it does not get overwritten after every compile? Please advise. THanks AJ.

However, there are cases when there will be filler 0s when there is no data. • The Wheel Invention - Beneficial For Learning?

  Hello, Chris Coyier of css-tricks.com has written a good article titled Regarding Wheel Invention. In a paragraph he says: On the “reinventing” side, you benefit from complete control and learning from the process. And on the very next line he says: On the other side, you benefit from speed, reliability, and familiarity. Also often at odds are time spent and cost. He is right in both statements I think. I really like his first statement. I do actually sometimes re-invent the wheel to learn more and gain complete control over what I am inventing. I wonder why people are so much against that or rather biased. Isn't there the benefit of learning and getting complete control or probably some other benefits too. I would love to see what you have to say about this.

  I'm developing a PHP application to retrieve the list of contacts from a GMail account. I'm looking for a solution which would enable the user of my application to provide the login and password to their Gmail account in my application (as opposed to getting redirected to Google) and then automatically do the retrieval. The retrieval process can be run in PHP or JavaScript (which would then feed the list of contacts back to PHP using Ajax). Is it possible to do that? Which JavaScript API should I use for that? Can someone point me at the right chapter in Google Contacts Data API documentation?

• Google Gears hangs when capturing (unmanaged resource store)

  Our code was written based on the example from Google Gears' own docs. We're using an unmanaged resource store. So we declare the files in an array, create the store, and capture all the files. Trouble is, the capturing process hangs. It always hangs on a random file (no discernible pattern has emerged), and when you reload the page, it always successfully captures. We're capturing 48 files. It seems to have nothing to do with the files themselves, as it hangs on every file type. I've seen it hang on the 6th file or the 47th. Windows and Mac. FF, IE, and Safari. We are not using a WorkerPool, and I'm thinking this may be necessary. Any other ideas why it would hang?

  Hi, I have a has and belongs to many relation between User and Article models, and I would like to link them even if an article if not hosted on the same database then a user. For example, If an article exists at foo.com/articles/3 and a user exists at bar.com/users/1, If would like to be able to do from foo.com web interface or bar.com web interface this kind of query: a_user.articles (or an_article.users). I think this can be possible adding a field like "url" in users and articles tables. But I don't know how to process for ActiveRecord. My Article model looks like this: class Article < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :users end Is there yet some example of project using this kind of relation over internet? Many thanks

  Hi All, I want to write a Scala script to recursively process all files in a directory. For each file I'd like to see if there are any cases where a string occurs at line X and line X - 2. If a case like that occurs I'd like to stop processing that file, and add that filename to a map of filenames to occurrence counts.   I have a Ruby script in my Rails app that I use to load some data from Twitter. In the future I will make it an automatic background process, but for now I run it manually like: ruby /lib/twitter/twitterLoad.rb In order to use the Rails model classes and such, I have the following as the top line of the script: require "#{File.dirname(__FILE__)}/../../config/environment.rb" By default, the development environment is used. But, I'd like to be able to choose the production environment at some point. Update #1: The RAILS_ENV constant is getting set in the environment.rb file. So, I was able to put ENV['RAILS_ENV'] = 'production' at the very top (before the environment.rb) line and solve my problem somewhat. So, my new question is, can do pass in env vars through the command line?

  I have a simple login form with 2 input fields: "username" and "password". "username" field is focused by default. The problem is that when user clicks outside "username" or "password" fields, the focus is gone (it is neither on "username" nor on "password" fields"). How can I force the focus to be on these 2 fields only ? • Processing large recordsets in Rails

  Hello, I'm trying to perform a daily operation on a larger than normal dataset (2m+ records). However, Rails seems to take a very long time performing operations on such a dataset. Operations like Dataset.all.each do |data| ... end take a very long time to complete (I assume this is because it can't fit all the items into memory at once, right?). Does anyone have any strategies on how I could handle this situation? I know SQL would probably speed up the process, but I'm looking to use the Rails environment as I can do many more complicated things to the data than I can with just SQL statements.

Should a script be running every few seconds on the page, checking another page to see if a question is available for the user?   We have a web service written in Rails. The API is published and we cannot change it. Our app communicates with a remote web service that sometimes hangs or takes several seconds to reply. Client -> Our Web Service -> Remote Web Service Currently, if the remote web service hangs for 5 seconds, one of our rails processes on our web service also hangs with it, which is what we need to avoid. I've seen things such as mod-x-sendfile, modporter, and delayed jobs, but the best I can tell, they all assume the client is not waiting for an answer. Since the API is already established, we cannot tell the client "I'm attempting to do what you want, check back later for the answer." The best option we have come up with so far is to add a second, non-rails web server running eventmachine to process these particular calls. Is there a better way?

  is it good practice to use iframe to implement header/navbar? my website is basically 5 thousand pages but all static html (not using any content manager, php, etc.). am in the process to add a navbar at the top of each page. e.g. tabs, or crumbs, or any sort of header with js menu. (the exact design not decided yet) my question is, is it good practice to use a iframe for this? (so, instead have same text repeated in all 5 thousand pages, each will just have a short iframe pointing to a header file) am aware that one should reduce http request for speed, but this is ok with me. Any other problems i might have with this? SEO or any tech issue?

• How to launch a program as as a normal user from a UAC elevated installer

  I'm writing an NSIS installer and the setup program elevates "as administrator" as needed on Windows 7 / vista. I need to run the installed program at the end of the install and don't want to launch it with the same privileges as the installer. The regular NSIS exec commands run the child process with the same permissions as the installer. There is a UAC plugin for NSIS, but the documentation on it isn't great and it seems v. new; I'd prefer not to use that plugin. Ideally, I'm looking for a small .exe I can include that'll launch the target program without UAC elevation. Does this exist? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

  I have a SDL app that compiles fine, and the images show up, but only if they are in the correct folder with the binary next to them, if the images are moved they wont show up next time the application is run. How can I make a complete binary that will allow me to compile the images as well as the code, so that I can distribute one single binary, and not a zip file with all of my assets. I have looked into writing a .deb file which is what I think I need, but the process looked complicated. I am running Ubuntu 10.10 I only need to distribute to Ubuntu

• What happens to an instance of ServerSocket blocked inside accept(), when I drop all references to i

  In a multithreaded Java application, I just tracked down a strange-looking bug, realizing that what seemed to be happening was this: one of my objects was storing a reference to an instance of ServerSocket on startup, one thread would, in its main loop in run(), call accept() on the socket while the socket was still waiting for a connection, another thread would try to restart the component under some conditions, the restart process missed the cleanup sequence before it reached the initialization sequence as a result, the reference to the socket was overwritten with a new instance, which then wasn't able to bind() anymore the socket which was blocking inside the accept() wasn't accessible anymore, leaving a complete shutdown and restart of the application as the only way to get rid of it. Which leaves me wondering: with no references left to the ServerSocket instance, what would free the socket for a new connection? At what point would the ServerSocket become garbage collected? In general, what are good practices I can follow to avoid this type of bug?
