    Fn + F6 - backlight turns off immediately, image stays (visible if shine something at the display) xset dpms force {off,suspend,standby} - backlight turns off slowly, image cleared. How to programmatically just turn off backlight on Acer Extensa 5220 laptop in Linux? It should work fast and should not touch image (unlike xset method). Ideally if I could rapidly switching backlight off and on emulate lower_than_minimum brightness level (ideally - to be hardly visible (but visible) at night).

  • Server restarted while rebuilding array, what to do?

    It's a HP ProLiant DL380 Generation 7, that has four hard drives, one is dead, I suppose that another one is dead too, but is there any way to force the array to rebuild again? The server has restarted while it was rebuilding an array. My windows server(2008) that is on it won't boot, it goes directly to system recovery screen. I have an image backup, would restoring it be my only option?If I restore, it will get back to regular automatically or will I have to configure something?

    I use PXE debian installer and install it from the local network mirror. It only offers to install "squeeze - stable" despite of there are both squeeze and lenny on the mirror. How to force it to install oldstable (lenny)? When I use legacy network-boot installer, it offers both "oldstable - lenny" and "stable - squeeze", but when I use new one it only offers "stable - squeeze". Can the new installer install old Debian?

    So Sublime Text 2 seems to getting a lot of love lately. I am using the Sublime Code intel plugin, https://github.com/Kronuz/SublimeCodeIntel for auto completion. The problem is, it does not recognize .mi files as MASON files. I looked into the lexer and it does have the keywords in place. How do I force it to be parsed as MASON? Running "Set Syntax: " on ctrl+shift+p, does not show a MASON option.

    I have installed the AlternaTIFF viewer in IE (both 6 and 7, on separate computers), but based on the results of the test page, it is not being recognized as the default TIFF viewer inside Internet Explorer. It is installed and functioning, just not used by default. Is there any way to force IE to use AlternaTIFF as the default plugin to render TIFF files?

    Windows 7 keeps asking for a password every time I mount a webdav. I don't want to store a password in a .bat file because it's so insecure. Is there any way to force system store it? Manually adding credentials in user manager helps storing passwords for SMB shares but for webdav doesn't. btw, as far as I remember, Vista had the same problems.

    Is there a way to create a local user account on a Windows 7 Professional machine that stays active only for a certain length of time e.g 12 months? The reason for doing this is we loan out laptops for 12 months to students, however some are less than prompt at bringing them back, if they were locked out of the laptop this would force them to bring the machine back in if they hoped to continue using the laptop. Also a warning would be helpful, although I could do this with a scheduled task.

    Microsoft Security Essentials seems to allow only quarantine or delete actions for program that it deems to have "high" or "severe" risk. However, it also assigns these levels to what it considers to be "hacking tools". Is there a way to override this nanny behaviour and force programs on the allowed list? Thank you.     I am trying to customize the way image folders appear in Win7 explorer, but I can't seem to get it under control. Is there a way to force it to always pick the first image in the folder as the preview image? Explorer has perfectly fine natural sort order. I don't understand why it messes it up by picking semi-random images. Thanks!

    Hey, I've been troubleshooting network issues on servers with 2 NICs and laptops with wired and wireless cards. How can I force the PING and TELNET to be sent from a specific adapter? I know it's a trouble with windows. Turning off one of the adapters is not an option, I am always connected through one of the adapters.   • What Triggers a syncronization between Exchange 2007 Mail Store and Edge Servers?

    We are using Exchange 2007 for our mail. In our configuration, we need to add an alias to each users mailbox. When we do, the Edge server, another Exchange 2007 box, will reject the alias with a User Unknown error until the next morning. I seem to recall that in Exchange 2003, you could force an update from the Management console, but I can not find a way in 2007. It is obvious that a sync job is scheduled to run each night, but I cannot find it.
