  • JQuery Optimization: Is there any way to speed up the rendering of the FlexSelect control?

    - by Sephrial
    Greetings, I am new to jQuery, and I have a performance problem with the FlexSelect control where it takes about 5 seconds to render the dropdown control (in the renderDropdown() function). The dropdown list contains about 5000 element. I believe all the runtime is attributed to the following block of code: var list = this.dropdownList.html(""); $.each(this.results, function() { list.append($("<li/>").html(this.name)); }); Question: Are there any alternatives that would build this list of elements in a more inefficient manner?

  • Why jquery.animate on a textarea make the blinking cursor disapears?

    - by Tom S.
    Hello everyone. I have the following code $(document).ready(function() { $("#myTextArea").focus(function() { $("#myTextArea").animate({ "height": "75px"}, "normal"); return false; }); to expand a textbox when it gets focus. The expand occurs, however the blinking cursor disapears, at least in Firefox! Edited: The textarea is still focused, and i can type on it. Why does this happen? Is there a way to show it again? Thanks in advance

  • Javascript content rotator?

    - by different
    I’ve got the basics of a content rotator done, the only problem is it doesn’t loop itself back to the beginning and I cannot figure out why! It is a very simple javascript script: window.onload = function() { setInterval("transition()", 5000); } function transition() { var y = document.getElementById("featured").getElementsByTagName("li"); for (var i=0;i<y.length;i++) { if (y[i].className == "current") { y[(i+1)].className = "current"; y[i].className = ""; break; } } } It keeps stopping at the end of the list, basically I just want it to loop. Any help?

  • C++: namespace conflicht between extern "C" and class member

    - by plaisthos
    Hi, I stumbled upon a rather exotic c++ namespace problem: condensed example: extern "C" { void solve(lprec * lp); } class A { public: lprec * lp; void solve(int foo); } void A::solve(int foo) { solve(lp); } I want to call the c funcition solve in my C++ member function A::solve. The compiler is not happy with my intents: error C2664: 'lp_solve_ilp::solve' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'lprec *' to 'int' Is there something I can prefix the solve function? C::solve does not work

  • Jquery ajax call with '+' sign.

    - by 0plus1
    Hi, I'm doing this: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: baseURL+"sys/formTipi_azioni",data:"az_tipo="+azione, beforeSend: function(){$("#form").html('<p><img src="'+baseURL+'lib/img/ajax-loader.gif" width="16" height="16" alt="loading" /><p>');}, success: function(html){$("#form").html(html);} }); there is a case when azione is TB+ the plus sign doesn't get POSTed at all, a blank space get sent. I already tried this: azione = escape(String(azione)); With no luck. Does anybody knows how to fix this? Thank you

  • Why SQL functions are faster than UDF

    - by Zerotoinfinite
    Though it's a quite subjective question but I feel it necessary to share on this forum. I have personally experienced that when I create a UDF (even if that is not complex) and use it into my SQL it drastically decrease the performance. But when I use SQL inbuild function they happen to work pretty faster. Conversion , logical & string functions are clear example of that. So, my question is "Why SQL in build functions are faster than UDF"? and it would be an advantage if someone can guide me how can I judge/manipulate function cost either mathematically or logically.

  • Jquery toggle using 2 elements

    - by user801773
    this is my script, I'm using a toggle so I can animate a sliding menu. $("div.show-menu").click().toggle( function() { // first alternation $("#slideover").animate({ right: "512px" }, 300); $(".menu-button").html('close menu'); }, function() { // second alternation $("#slideover").animate({ right: "0" }, 300); $(".menu-button").html('open menu'); }); Though I really need the toggle to work using 2 elements on the page. For example see below... <div class="show-menu one">open menu</div> // this is element one <div class="show-menu two">open menu</div> // this is element two I need it so, if element one get's click first, you can close the menu using element two on the first click. What is happening now is that you have to click element two twice in order for it to close the menu - vice versa I guess this is the toggle coming into play, any help would be great thanks. Cheers Josh

  • Equivalence Classes LISP

    - by orcik
    I need to write a program for equivalence classes and get this outputs... (equiv '((a b) (a c) (d e) (e f) (c g) (g h))) => ((a b c g h) (d e f)) (equiv '((a b) (c d) (e f) (f g) (a e))) => ((a b e f g) (c d)) Basically, A set is a list in which the order doesn't matter, but elements don't appear more than once. The function should accept a list of pairs (elements which are related according to some equivalence relation), and return a set of equivalence classes without using iteration or assignment statements (e.g. do, set!, etc.). However, set utilities such as set-intersection, set-union and a function which eliminates duplicates in a list and built-in functions union, intersection, and remove-duplicates are allowed. Thanks a lot!

  • Why does std::map operator[] create an object if the key doesn't exist?

    - by n1ck
    Hi, I'm pretty sure I already saw this question somewhere (comp.lang.c++? Google doesn't seem to find it there either) but a quick search here doesn't seem to find it so here it is: Why does the std::map operator[] create an object if the key doesn't exist? I don't know but for me this seems counter-intuitive if you compare to most other operator[] (like std::vector) where if you use it you must be sure that the index exists. I'm wondering what's the rationale for implementing this behavior in std::map. Like I said wouldn't it be more intuitive to act more like an index in a vector and crash (well undefined behavior I guess) when accessed with an invalid key? Refining my question after seeing the answers: Ok so far I got a lot of answers saying basically it's cheap so why not or things similar. I totally agree with that but why not use a dedicated function for that (I think one of the comment said that in java there is no operator[] and the function is called put)? My point is why doesn't map operator[] work like a vector? If I use operator[] on an out of range index on a vector I wouldn't like it to insert an element even if it was cheap because that probably mean an error in my code. My point is why isn't it the same thing with map. I mean, for me, using operator[] on a map would mean: i know this key already exist (for whatever reason, i just inserted it, I have redundancy somewhere, whatever). I think it would be more intuitive that way. That said what are the advantage of doing the current behavior with operator[] (and only for that, I agree that a function with the current behavior should be there, just not operator[])? Maybe it give clearer code that way? I don't know. Another answer was that it already existed that way so why not keep it but then, probably when they (the ones before stl) choose to implement it that way they found it provided an advantage or something? So my question is basically: why choose to implement it that way, meaning a somewhat lack of consistency with other operator[]. What benefit do it give? Thanks

  • JqueryUI Tab Linking from Another Page

    - by pschorr
    I'm having some issues with jqueryui tabs and linking to certain tabs on another page. Basically, each page has tabs, and all are navigational via drop down at the top, with each 'tab' being available in the drop down. Currently I'm able to text-link, but only within the page I'm on, and I'm just lost on the getting it to work correctly from page to page. Here's what I currently got working with internal text link. $(function() { $("#tabs").tabs( {fx: { opacity: 'toggle' }, selected: 0} ); var $tabs = $('#tabs').tabs(); // first tab selected $('a.nutrlink').click(function() { // bind click event to link $tabs.tabs('select', 1); // switch to third tab return false; }); });

  • Any side effect of not using USES_CONVERSION

    - by Yan Cheng CHEOK
    Recently, I have a utilities function of // T2CA #include "ATLCONV.H" std::string Utils::CString2String(const CString& cString) { #if _MSC_VER > 1200 // Convert a TCHAR string to a LPCSTR // construct a std::string using the LPCSTR input CT2CA tmp(cString); std::string strStd (tmp); #else // Deprecated in VC2008. // construct a std::string using the LPCSTR input std::string strStd (T2CA (cString)); #endif return strStd; } I do several simple test it seems work fine. However, when I google around, I see most usage of T2CA in VC6, before they call, they will invoke USES_CONVERSION; Is there any thing I had missed out? Shall I invoke my function by : #else // Deprecated in VC2008. // construct a std::string using the LPCSTR input USES_CONVERSION; std::string strStd (T2CA (cString)); #endif

  • MessageBox.Show not raising HelpRequested event

    - by Trevortni
    I have a form that is showing a MessageBox using MessageBox.Show, and trying to receive events from the Help button on the MessageBox so I can execute my own code. The Microsoft documentation shows how to do this; however, using what is suggested does not work. Here's a shortened version of my code: Private Function MethodName() As Boolean AddHandler Me.HelpRequested, AddressOf Me.MsgBoxHelpRequested Select Case MessageBox.Show("Text", "Title", MessageButtons.YesNoCancel, MessageBoxIcon.Question, MessageBoxDefaultButton.Button2, 0, True) Case MsgBoxResult.Yes ' Do stuff Case MsgBoxResult.No ' Do stuff Case MsgBoxResult.Cancel RemoveHandler Me.HelpRequested, AddressOf Me.MsgBoxHelpRequested Return False End Select RemoveHandler Me.HelpRequested, AddressOf Me.MsgBoxHelpRequested End Function Private Sub MsgBoxHelpRequested(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal hlpevent As System.Windows.Forms.HelpEventArgs) ' Breakpoint that never gets hit ' More code End Sub I've been searching for a solution to this problem, but the best I've found is this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2407880/how-to-detect-help-button-press-in-windows-forms-messagebox that refers me back to the same Microsoft code that doesn't seem to be working. Can anybody help me with this? Thank you.

  • Can a process have two pid's?

    - by limp_chimp
    I'm studying computer systems and I've made this very simple function which uses fork() to create a child process. fork() returns a pid_t that is 0 if it's a child process. But calling the getpid() function within this child process returns a different, nonzero pid. In the code I have below, is newPid only meaningful in the context of the program, and not to the operating system? Is it possibly only a relative value, measured against the pid of the parent? #include <stdio.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <string.h> #include <errno.h> #include <stdlib.h> void unixError(char* msg) { printf("%s: %s\n", msg, strerror(errno)); exit(0); } pid_t Fork() { pid_t pid; if ((pid = fork()) < 0) unixError("Fork error"); return pid; } int main(int argc, const char * argv[]) { pid_t thisPid, parentPid, newPid; int count = 0; thisPid = getpid(); parentPid = getppid(); printf("thisPid = %d, parent pid = %d\n", thisPid, parentPid); if ((newPid = Fork()) == 0) { count++; printf("I am teh child. My pid is %d, my other pid is %d\n", getpid(), newPid); exit(0); } printf("I am the parent. My pid is %d\n", thisPid); return 0; } Output: thisPid = 30050, parent pid = 30049 I am the parent. My pid is 30050 I am teh child. My pid is 30052, my other pid is 0 Lastly, why is the child's pid 2 higher than the parent's, and not 1? The difference between the main function's pid and its parent is 1, but when we create a child it increments the pid by 2. Why is that?

  • Ruby and jQuery -- $(document).ajaxSend() not modifying the params as expected

    - by Jason
    I cannot get jquery's ajaxSend (http://api.jquery.com/ajaxSend/) to properly modify the parameters. I have: $(document).ajaxSend(function(event, request, settings) { settings.data = $.deparam(settings.data); settings.data['random'] = new Date().getTime(); settings.data['_method'] = 'get'; settings.data = $.param(settings.data) $.log(settings); }); $(document).ready(function() { //...snip... $.ajaxSetup({ data : { remote : 1, authenticity_token : encodeURIComponent(AUTH_TOKEN) } }); }); The idea here is that we always want 4 param sent across: remote and auth_token always get set properly. However, random and _method (both needed for IE issues) do not get set. Logging settings inside ajaxSend shows me that they are set to settings.data: "remote=1&authenticity_token=6GA9R_snip_253D&random=1270584905846&_method=get" but when it gets sent across the wire, I only have the following: authenticity_token 6GA9R_snip_253D remote 1 Why in the world is this not working?

  • Drupal 6 CCK node form redirect issue

  • What is the best regular expression for validating email addresses?

    - by acrosman
    Over the years I have slowly developed a regular expression that validates MOST email addresses correctly, assuming they don't use an IP address as the server part. Currently the expression is: ^[_a-z0-9-]+(\.[_a-z0-9-]+)*@[a-z0-9-]+(\.[a-z0-9-]+)*(\.[a-z]{2,4})$ I use this in several PHP programs, and it works most of the time. However, from time to time I get contacted by someone that is having trouble with a site that uses it, and I end up having to make some adjustment (most recently I realized that I wasn't allowing 4-character TLDs). What's the best regular expression you have or have seen for validating emails? I've seen several solutions that use functions that use several shorter expressions, but I'd rather have one long complex expression in a simple function instead of several short expression in a more complex function.

  • make db connection persistent throught zend framework

    - by kamikaze_pilot
    I'm using zend framework. currently everytime I need to use the db I go ahead and connect to the DB: function connect(){ $connParams = array("host" => $host, "port" => $port, "username" => $username, "password" => $password, "dbname" => $dbname); $db = new Zend_Db_Adapter_Pdo_Mysql($connParams); return $db } so I would just call the connect() function everytime I need to use the db My question is...suppose I want to reuse $db everywhere in my site and only connect once in the very initial stage of the site load and then close the connection right before the site gets sent to the user, what would be the best practice to accomplish this? Which file in Zend should I save $db in, what method should I use to save it (global variable?), and which file should I do the connection closing in?

  • Delay the display of image loaded using jquery + ajax

    - by niczoom
    I am using the following code : $.ajax({ url: "pgiproxy.php", data: ({ data : $("#formdata").serialize(), mode : "graph"}), success: function(result){ var temp = $('<div/>').html(result); var val = temp.find('center').html(); $('#BFX').html(val); }, error: function(){ $("#error").html("ERROR !!!"); } }); The 'result' from the ajax call to 'pgiproxy.php' is a whole web page (returned as a string), this is then converted to a jQuery object and stored in 'var'. I then extract the data I need (a .gif image) using .find() which is stored in 'val'. This image is then inserted into a #BFX div for display. My problem is every successive time I click my button to update this image it shows the image loading from top to bottom as it is reading it in from the web. Is there a way to only display this image once it has fully loaded so the user doesnt see the image loading and only sees the image change instantly.
