  Looking for a simple SQL (PostgreSQL) regular expression or similar solution (maybe soundex) that will allow a flexible search. So that dashes, spaces and such are omitted during the search. As part of the search and only the raw characters are searched in the table.: Currently using: SELECT * FROM Productions WHERE part_no ~* '%search_term%' If user types UTR-1 it fails to bring up UTR1 or UTR 1 stored in the database. But the matches do not happen when a part_no has a dash and the user omits this character (or vice versa) EXAMPLE search for part UTR-1 should find all matches below. • Dynamic "OR" conditions in Rails 3

  I am working on a carpool application where people can search for lifts. They should be able to select the city from which they would liked to be picked up and choose a radius which will then add the cities in range to the query. However the way it is so far is that i can only chain a bunch of "AND" conditions together where it would be right to say "WHERE start_city = city_from OR start_city = a_city_in_range OR start_city = another_city_in_range" Does anyone know how to achive this?   Trying to get my project updated to MVC3, something I just can't find: I have a simple datatype of ENUMS: public enum States() { AL,AK,AZ,...WY } Which I want to use as a DropDown/SelectList in my view of a model that contains this datatype: public class FormModel() { public States State {get; set;} } Pretty straight forward: when I go to use the auto-generate view for this partial class, it ignores this type. I need a simple select list that sets the value of the enum as the selected item when I hit submit and process via my AJAX - JSON POST Method.   Hello, I have a LINQ statement that returns an implicit type. I need to get this type to be an ObservableCollection in my Silverlight 3 application. The ObservableCollection constructor in Silverlight 3 only provides an empty constructor. Because of this, I cannot directly convert my results to an ObservableCollection. • Best implementation for MySQL replication with Rails 3?

  We're looking at potentially setting up replication for our primary MySQL database, and while setting up the replication seems pretty straight-forward, the application implementation seems a bit murkier. My first idea would be to set up a master-slave configuration and RW-splitting, with all write queries (CREATE, INSERT, UPDATE) going to master, and all read queries (SELECT) going to slave. Having read up on it, it seems that there are essentially two options for how to implement this with our app: Using an independent middleware layer for all MySQL connections, such as MySQL proxy or DBSlayer. However, the former is in Alpha and the latter has limited documentation. Using a Ruby-based gem/plugin, such as Octopus to achieve RW-splitting in the framework. If we wanted to go with a master-slave setup, what you recommend moving forward? The other thought I've had was to use a master-master configuration, but am unsure about the implementation of such a setup. Thoughts?

  I wish to specify a specific command timeout (or LOCK_TIMEOUT) for an SQL and once this time out is reached an exception (or alert) has to be raised in nHibernate.   I just found a weird behaviour when attempting to extract a string from the Binary-table in the MSI. I have a file containing "Hello world", the data I get is "???Hello world". (Literary question mark.) Is this as intended? Will it always be exactly 3 characters in the beginning? • Netbeans 7.2 won't open on OS X

  I installed Netbeans on OSX Mountain Lion running JDK 7. Everything was working fine. Then my machine for no reason crashed. After this I could no longer open Netbeans anymore. If I try to start Netbeans from the commandline: /Applications/NetBeans/NetBeans 7.2.app/Contents/MacOS/netbeans Then it works fine. From there I can select Netbeans About and confirm that my userdir and cachedir is: User directory: /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/NetBeans/7.2 Cache directory: /Users/<user>/Library/Caches/NetBeans/7.2 So, I deleted these directories and tried again, but alas, I can only start netbeans via the commandline. Ideas appreciated...

• jquery sortable problem with ie

  i am using jquery to sort my lists and i have run into a dead end. First, I checked the jquery site if theirs work on ie7, thats great, it does. next, i checked mine without the styles(so there possibly wont be anything that's intercepting or affecting jquery stuff). but i still get this weird error in ie7 when you sort items in the inner list(i have nested lists) they overlap each other, destroying the layout. if you sort the contianer lists, they work fine! here's a jsfiddle of what i mean: http://jsfiddle.net/GDUpa/ note that if you drag demonstration one or two spots(in ie), it will overlap with the other links. BUT if you drag POC (it will select the whole thing including the links under it), it works fine! is something wrong with my markup?

  I'm trying to create a simple reusable search using LINQ to SQL. I pass in a list of words entered in a search box. For instance instead of IQueryable of Users I may have an IQueryable of Cars and instead of firstname and surname the search goes off Make and Model. Basically the goal is to reuse the search logic by dynamically selecting what to search on at runtime.

• postgres store with composite value type, or a better way of attributing an inverted index

  can't seem to figure out the syntax for populating a hstore with a value of composite type -- note: I do not want to convert a record to a hstore. select hstore('hello => ROW(1,2)'); I know it's something simple; However, google is not my friend today. use case : custom inverted index. The data is modelling an inverted index of lexemes, the composite data types are various probabilities related to the lexemes which I will use to implement document clustering. Does anyone know a better way of doing this ? I'm open to using an external system if it allows attaching attributes to key-posting pairs in the inverted index. I'd use something external if it had solid support for what I am trying to do, I suspect that sticking 3-10k lexemes per tuple and then doing batch processing on them is gonna be nasty as the whole hstore will have to be parsed and converted .

• MS SQL replace sequence of same characters inside Text Field (TSQL only)

  I have a text column varchar(4000) with text: 'aaabbaaacbaaaccc' and I need to remove all duplicated chars - so only one from sequence left: 'abacbac' It should not be a function, Procedure or CLR - Regex solution. Only true SQL select. Currently I think about using recursive WITH clause with replace 'aa'-'a', 'bb'-'b', 'cc'-'c'. So recursion should cycle until all duplicated sequences of that chars would be replaced. DO you have another solution, perhaps more Permormant one? PS: I searched through this site about different replace examples - they didnt suit to this case.

  I have an nHibernate querie issue that looks quite straight forward, but I can't seem to get my head around it! I am creating some simple example classes to illustrate my problem: public class Car { public int Id { get; set; } public IList<Interior> InteriorParts { get; set; } } public class Interior { public int Id { get; set; } public InteriorProducer Producer { get; set; } } public class InteriorProducer { public int Id { get; set; } } Now to the query: I have the id of the InteriorProducer, but need to get a list of Cars where the interior have been produced by the interior producer. So in a simple, pseudo SQL, it looks something like this: select cars where car.InteriorParts.Producer.Id = Id I have a really hard time getting my head around this to create an nHibernate query. • WSSQL query for multiple computers at once

  I can run normal searches just fine. Windows 7 won't let me add a network share to my local index, but I can query the remote index just fine. The problem is that I can't find a way to query two indexes at once. I was hoping that something like this would work: SELECT System.ItemName FROM compA.SystemIndex, compB.SystemIndex WHERE SCOPE='file://compA/pathA' OR SCOPE='file://compB/pathB' but it doesn't. For simple queries, I can query compA and compB separately and then merge the results myself, but I'm hoping for a better way. Anybody here have some experience with this?

  I need to be able to do the following: Select * from Table1 left join Table2 on id1 = id2 AND i1 = ? Hibernate criteria doesn't allow be to specify the i1 = ? part. The existing code is using hibernate criteria and it would be a huge refactor to swap out for HQL Does anybody have any tips how I could implement this differently or any way to override the Hibernate Criteria? I'm not opposed to cracking open hibernate and modifying, but when I began to dig it, there seems to be layers upon layers of abstractions. I never found the the point where SQL is actually generated...

  I need help to find a tutorial or anything to help me create a comparison chart. The user is able to search for device names. The information about the device names is in a drop down box dynamically added from the database. I want the user to be able to select two separate devices and view the devices information plotted onto a graph. I'll be grateful for keywords that I can search for or any tutorials that will help me to carry on with this task. Currently on my screen I can see the data that has been inserted into the database.   Okay so im writing a SQL Server 2008 Stored Procedure (maintenance script). In doing so, being a good boy i've done plenty of error handling, checking rowcounts, printing output messages, etc But in doing this, ive found myself writing over and over again something like this: SELECT @RowsAffected = @@ROWCOUNT IF @RowsAffected > 0 BEGIN PRINT CAST(@RowsAffected, NVARCHAR(2)) + 'rows updated.' END Or debug messages like this: PRINT 'User ' + CAST(@UserId AS NVARCHAR(5)) + ' modified successfully' Is there a way i can create a kind of 'subroutine' inside the stored procedure (like a private method) that can accept something as a parameter (doesnt have to though) and do some logic? I want to be able to do something like this: CheckRowCounts Or this: PrintUserUpatedMessage(@UserId) Which would then perform the above logic (check rowcount, print message, etc) And yes obviously i can create a UDF, but then i would need to create/drop it etc as this logic is only required for the life of the execution of this stored procedure. Getting sick and tired of writing the same code over and over again, and changing all the different areas ive used it when i get an error =) Can anyone help?
