• C/C++: Scanning a TIFF file using LIBTIFF

  My problem is to scan a tiff image in C and get all the pixel value (let's say for saving them in a txt file) in C/C++. I scanned the web and i found a library named "TIFFLIB" that should do what i was looking for. I downloaded it using the ubuntu package manager, but the gcc doesn't recognize the library. How do i link the library to the compiler? Have I installed it correctly? Is there any better/easier way to do that?

From my navigation menu, I want each link to reference a specific DIV in a separate page and then pull that DIV and replace the content in the current page. <ul> <li><a href="#">About</a></li> <li><a href="#">Contact</a></li> ..and so on </ul> Elsewhere in the page: <div id="displayContent">Content refreshes onClick.   I'm a person that learns best from example. Currently, I'm diving into the field of Web Development after fifteen years of developing desktop apps. I'm still getting used to all the web technologies used for developing modern web sites and everywhere I look, I see cool little UI elements and question how they're implemented. So I thought I'd ask you, the web experts...the wexperts :) What are some straight forward or creative ways you could code this grid-breaking arrow... The basic layout for this page looks like... What would the html/css code look like? Would you split the image into multiple images or could you use a single image? I'm sure this is a really simple concept and it completely boggles me. • .htaccess causes links on page to try an open a BIN file?

  My friend's site which I agree to tech-advise, is psychtalkonline.com. You can go check it out, it's an anonymous forum (miniBBS) running Apache on Unix. I at first had a problem with mod_rewrite but then I uploaded the .htaccess file. However, that seemed to cause problems. If you click on any link, you will get a pop-up saying "You have chosen to open which is a BIN file". If you click the source code, and click on the links in the source code, you will see that it goes to the BIN file. I'm not really sure what's going on. I really would appreciate some help. Thanks.

• Agile web development with Rails 4 interface difficulties

  I've been following along with the examples in the book in making a online catalog and am having a couple of discouraging difficulties in Chapter 8 task C: Catalog display. I have input the code for the stylesheets as instructed but it has created a slightly skewed result as compared to what is shown in the book. Whilst minor and aesthetic in nature its a little shock to my confidence and slightly irritating when trying to carry on through the book.   I'm learning from Google's Android developing tutorial and i came across a problem. On this link https://developer.android.com/training/basics/network-ops/connecting.html#AsyncTask it says to create a class that extends AsyncTask. So when i write the class it automatically implements the method as follows: private Object doInBackground(Object... args) {..} //it's fine but when i try writing just as it says in the tutorial: private String doInBackground(String... args) {..} //it gives an error and the error says: The method doInBackground(String...) of type MainActivity.DownloadWebpageText must override a superclass method. So how do i change Object to String without getting an error there?

• Any valid use of goto in PHP?

  I know, there are other questions about the goto statement introduced in PHP 5.3. But I couldn't find any decent answer in there, all were of the type "last resort", "xkcd", "evil", "bad", "EVIL!!!". But no valid example. Only statements that there aren't any uses. Or statements that there are some rare use cases (again, without examples). So, the question is: "Which are the valid uses of goto in PHP". Answers for "Is goto evil" are not welcome and will get downvoted. Thanks :) Or does somebody have a link to an RFC where the decision is explained - I couldn't find one.

• Feedly "Login with Google" system

  I'm trying to figure out how Feedly does their login with Google link. Based on the redirect URL it passes I'd think it was a google service, but at the same time, the login page says it's not associated "Note: Google is not affiliated with feedly. Your password will not be shared with the feedly service". Anyone know what exactly powers this? Is it Federated login with some special domain trickery allowing them to upload a site screenshot and description? Or is it something else.

• Ruby on Rails ActiveScaffold: Showing {{model}} instead of model name?

  Hi there, I'm using ActiveScaffold with Ruby on Rails and I'm loving it, however there is one weird thing. Whenever I hit "Edit" or "Create New" in my webapp's ActiveScaffold, it says "Create {{model}}" or "Update {{model}}" in the webapp rather than using the model's name. Why is this? • Recursively looping through a drive and replacing illegal characters

  Hi I have to create an app that drills into a specific drive, reads all file names and replaces illegal SharePoint characters with underscores. The illegal characters I am referring to are: ~ # % & * {} / \ | : <> ? - "" Can someone provide either a link to code or code itself on how to do this? I am VERY new to C# and need all the help i can possibly get. I have researched code on recursively drilling through a drive but i am not sure how to put the character replace and the recursive looping together. Please help!

Anyway around this?

• 301 redirect, conflicting with RewriteRule

  We did some maintenance today, and moved our web forums from /forums into the root folder of the domain. We put in a redirect 301 in a .htaccess file: Redirect 301 /forums/ http://www.ourforums.com/ However, we used to have some links that contained duplicate /forums folders. I.e. www.ourforums.com/forums/forums/forum.1 Obviously the redirect from above now leads to /forum.1, which odes not exist. I would like the old link to actually point to www.ourforums.com/boards/forum.1. I attempted to use something like: RewriteRule ^/forums/forums http://www.ourforums.com/boards/ [NC,R=301,L] Regardless of what I tried though, the Redirect seems to supersede any RewriteRules I put in the same file, regardless of whether I place them before the Redirect. Is there any way I can somehow ensure the RewriteRule is handled before the Redirect?

• Launch ms word template as new document from IE...

  I have a requirement to launch .dot files (ms word templates) as new documents from the browser... Let me explain... if you click on a .dot file in Windows Explorer it opens a new document and runs any macros... you can right click and edit the template... I want to link to the files, so I use <a href="file://myserver/templates/letter.dot">Letter</a>... However this then prompts for the "Download File" dialogue box... and then if I click "Open" it opens the template in edit mode... not the required new document mode... This may be a technical impossibility but can I achieve the desired result in ActiveX or something??

• Java : VolatileImage slower than BufferedImage.

  I'm making a game in java and in used BufferedImages to render content to the screen. I had performance issues on low end machines where the game is supposed to run, so I switched to VolatileImage which are normally faster. Except they actually slow the whole thing down. The images are created with GraphicsConfiguration.createCompatibleVolatileImage(...) and are drawn to the screen with Graphics.drawImage(...) (follow link to see which one specifically). They are drawn upon a Canvas using double buffering. Does someone has an idea of what is going wrong here ?

• Continuous playing swf on Static Website.

  Hello. I have a music player swf embedded on an html page. Is there any way to have the music continuously play, even when the different html pages are loaded? When a link is clicked, the page is refreshed, also restarting the swf(music). If the site was AJAX driven, this wouldn't be a problem, but all my pages are static. I suppose I could put the entire body in an iframe, but there has to be a better option. I am certainly open to the idea of using ajax here, but I do not have much ajax experience. Any ideas?

• RoR: Where is the "rails/info/properties" route defined?

  I'm running Rails 2.3.4. When I create a new rails project, the public/index.html file has a link named "About your application's environment" that points to "rails/info/properties". In dev mode, it gives a summary of the runtime environment. However, in production mode, it gives a 404 page cannot be found. Could someone point me in the direction of how and where the "rails/info/properties" route is configured? I'd just like to understand how it's set up.

• Do (statically linked) DLLs use a different heap than the main program?

  I'm new to Windows programming and I've just "lost" two hours hunting a bug which everyone seems aware of: you cannot create an object on the heap in a DLL and destroy it in another DLL (or in the main program). I'm almost sure that on Linux/Unix this is NOT the case (if it is, please say it, but I'm pretty sure I did that thousands of times without problems...). At this point I have a couple of questions: 1) Do statically linked DLLs use a different heap than the main program? 2) Is the statically linked DLL mapped in the same process space of the main program? (I'm quite sure the answer here is a big YES otherwise it wouldn't make sense passing pointers from a function in the main program to a function in a DLL). I'm talking about plain/regular DLL, not COM/ATL services EDIT: By "statically linked" I mean that I don't use LoadLibrary to load the DLL but I link with the stub library
