  • Tricky SQL query - need to get time frames

    - by Andrew
    I am stumbled upon a problem, when I need a query which will produce a list of speeding time frames. Here is the data example [idgps_unit_location] [dt] [idgps_unit] [lat] [long] [speed_kmh] 26 10/18/2012 18:53 2 47 56 30 27 10/18/2012 18:53 2 49 58 31 28 10/18/2012 18:53 2 28 37 15 29 10/18/2012 18:54 2 56 65 33 30 10/18/2012 18:54 2 152 161 73 31 10/18/2012 18:55 2 134 143 64 32 10/18/2012 18:56 2 22 31 12 36 10/18/2012 18:59 2 98 107 47 37 10/18/2012 18:59 2 122 131 58 38 10/18/2012 18:59 2 91 100 44 39 10/18/2012 19:00 2 190 199 98 40 10/18/2012 19:01 2 194 203 101 41 10/18/2012 19:02 2 182 191 91 42 10/18/2012 19:03 2 162 171 78 43 10/18/2012 19:03 2 174 183 83 44 10/18/2012 19:04 2 170 179 81 45 10/18/2012 19:05 2 189 198 97 46 10/18/2012 19:06 2 20 29 10 47 10/18/2012 19:07 2 158 167 76 48 10/18/2012 19:08 2 135 144 64 49 10/18/2012 19:08 2 166 175 79 50 10/18/2012 19:09 2 9 18 5 51 10/18/2012 19:09 2 101 110 48 52 10/18/2012 19:09 2 10 19 7 53 10/18/2012 19:10 2 32 41 20 54 10/18/2012 19:10 1 54 63 85 55 10/19/2012 19:11 2 55 64 50 I need a query that would convert this table into the following report that shows frames of time when speed was 80: [idgps_unit] [dt_start] [lat_start] [long_start] [speed_start] [dt_end] [lat_end] [long_end] [speed_end] [speed_average] 2 10/18/2012 19:00 190 199 98 10/18/2012 19:02 182 191 91 96.66666667 2 10/18/2012 19:03 174 183 83 10/18/2012 19:05 189 198 97 87 1 10/18/2012 19:10 54 63 85 10/18/2012 19:10 54 63 85 85 Now, what have I tried? I tried putting this into separate tables, queries and do some joins... Nothing works and I am very frustrated... I am not even sure if this could be done via the query. Asking for the expert help!

  • Accessing an Access DB from Outlook via VBA

    - by camastanta
Hi The situation: In Outlook I get a message from a server. The content of the message needs to be put into an Access db. But, there may not exist another message with the same date. So, I need to look into a db if there is already a message with the same date and time. If there exists one, then it needs to be replaced and otherwise the message needs to be added to the database. The database contains a list of current positions from the vehicles on the road. The problem: I have problems to compare a date time with a date time in an Access DB via VBA. The query I use returns no records but there is a record in the database. This is the query I use: adoRS.Open "SELECT * FROM currentpositions WHERE ((currentpositions. [dateLT])=" & "#" & date_from_message & "#" & ")", adoConn, adOpenStatic, adLockOptimistic Second I need to now what the result is of that query. How can I determine the number of records that my query gives me? Thanks camastanta

  • SELECT set of most recent id, amount FROM table, where id occurs many times

    - by Jon Cram
I have a table recording the amount of data transferred by a given service on a given date. One record is entered daily for a given service. I'd like to be able to retrieve the most recent amount for a set of services. Example data set: serviceId | amount | date ------------------------------- 1 | 8 | 2010-04-12 2 | 11 | 2010-04-12 2 | 14 | 2010-04-11 3 | 9 | 2010-04-11 1 | 6 | 2010-04-10 2 | 5 | 2010-04-10 3 | 22 | 2010-04-10 4 | 17 | 2010-04-19 Desired response (service ids 1,2,3): serviceId | amount | date ------------------------------- 1 | 8 | 2010-04-12 2 | 11 | 2010-04-12 3 | 9 | 2010-04-11 Desired response (service ids 2, 4): serviceId | amount | date ------------------------------- 2 | 11 | 2010-04-12 4 | 17 | 2010-04-19 This retrieves the equivalent as running the following once per serviceId: SELECT serviceId, amount, date FROM table WHERE serviceId = <given serviceId> ORDER BY date DESC LIMIT 0,1 I understand how I can retrieve the data I want in X queries. I'm interested to see how I can retrieve the same data using either a single query or at the very least less than X queries. I'm very interested to see what might be the most efficient approach. The table currently contains 28809 records. I appreciate that there are other questions that cover selecting the most recent set of records. I have examined three such questions but have been unable to apply the solutions to my problem.

  • sql boolean truth test: zero OR null

    - by AK
Is there way to test for both 0 and NULL with one equality operator? I realize I could do this: WHERE field = 0 OR field IS NULL But my life would be a hundred times easier if this would work: WHERE field IN (0, NULL) (btw, why doesn't that work?) I've also read about converting NULL to 0 in the SELECT statement (with COALESCE). The framework I'm using would also make this unpleasant. Realize this is oddly specific, but is there any way to test for 0 and NULL with one WHERE predicate?

  • php while loop throwing a error over a $var < 10 statement

    - by William
    Okay, so for some reason this is giving me a error as seen here: http://prime.programming-designs.com/test_forum/viewboard.php?board=0 However if I take away the '&& $cur_row < 10' it works fine. Why is the '&& $cur_row < 10' causing me a problem? $sql_result = mysql_query("SELECT post, name, trip, Thread FROM (SELECT MIN(ID) AS min_id, MAX(ID) AS max_id, MAX(Date) AS max_date FROM test_posts GROUP BY Thread ) t_min_max INNER JOIN test_posts ON test_posts.ID = t_min_max.min_id WHERE Board=".$board." ORDER BY max_date DESC", $db); $num_rows = mysql_num_rows($sql_result); $cur_row = 0; while($row = mysql_fetch_row($sql_result) && $cur_row < 10) { $sql_max_post_query = mysql_query("SELECT ID FROM test_posts WHERE Thread=".$row[3].""); $post_num = mysql_num_rows($sql_max_post_query); $post_num--; $cur_row++; echo''.$cur_row.'<br/>'; echo'<div class="postbox"><h4>'.$row[1].'['.$row[2].']</h4><hr />' .$row[0]. '<br /><hr />[<a href="http://prime.programming-designs.com/test_forum/viewthread.php?thread='.$row[3].'">Reply</a>] '.$post_num.' posts omitted.</div>'; }

  • Voting Script, Possibility of Simplifying Database Queries

    - by Sev
I have a voting script which stores the post_id and the user_id in a table, to determine whether a particular user has already voted on a post and disallow them in the future. To do that, I am doing the following 3 queries. SELECT user_id, post_id from votes_table where postid=? AND user_id=? If that returns no rows, then: UPDATE post_table set votecount = votecount-1 where post_id = ? Then SELECT votecount from post where post_id=? To display the new votecount on the web page Any better way to do this? 3 queries are seriously slowing down the user's voting experience Edit In the votes table, vote_id is a primary key In the post table, post_id is a primary key. Any other suggestions to speed things up?

  • Basic Hibernate question using and sql query

    - by Aerosteak
Hello Sorry if this is basic but I cannot find the solution anywhere. I have an java Object ‘Person’ with 3 properties firstname, lastname and username. I have an Oracle Store procedure returning a Resultset with the 3 column. All works fine for that. Now I have another StoreProcedure that will only return firstname and lastname but not username. I get the following error : « could not read column value from result set username. » Hibernate tries to fetch the username property from the resultset. If I remove the property username, then it works. Do I have to Create a Special Pojo for Each type of resultset or can I tell Hibernate what to map for each result set? Please help.

  • FOSS version of SQLCompare or something similar?

    - by Scott
Actually, free is good enough, it doesn't have to be open source :) I'm currently using the Schema Compare utility of VS2008, but it doesn't have a command line interface and has some other weaknesses as well. I'm wondering what free tools others are using to provide command line schema comparisons/synchronizations? Thanks.

  • jpa join query on a subclass

    - by Brian
I have the following relationships in JPA (hibernate). Object X has two subclasses, Y and Z. Object A has a manyToOne relationship to object X. (Note, this is a one-sided relationship so object X cannot see object A). Now, I want to get the max value of a column in object A, but only where the relationship is of a specific subtype, ie...Y. So, that equates to...get the max value of column1 in object A, across all instances of A where they have a relationship with Y. Is this possible? I'm a bit lost as how to query it. I was thinking of something like: String query = "SELECT MAX(a.columnName) FROM A a join a.x; Query query = super.entityManager.createQuery(query); query.execute(); However that doesn't take account of the subclass of X...so I'm a bit lost. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • FluentNHibernate error -- "Invalid object name"

    - by goober
I'm attempting to do the most simple of mappings with FluentNHibernate & Sql2005. Basically, I have a database table called "sv_Categories". I'd like to add a category, setting the ID automatically, and adding the userid and title supplied. Database table layout: CategoryID -- int -- not-null, primary key, auto-incrementing UserID -- uniqueidentifier -- not null Title -- varchar(50) -- not null Simple. My SessionFactory code (which works, as far as I can tell): _SessionFactory = Fluently.Configure().Database( MsSqlConfiguration.MsSql2005 .ConnectionString(c => c.FromConnectionStringWithKey("SVTest"))) .Mappings(x => x.FluentMappings.AddFromAssemblyOf<CategoryMap>()) .BuildSessionFactory(); My ClassMap code: public class CategoryMap : ClassMap<Category> { public CategoryMap() { Id(x => x.ID).Column("CategoryID").Unique(); Map(x => x.Title).Column("Title").Not.Nullable(); Map(x => x.UserID).Column("UserID").Not.Nullable(); } } My Class code: public class Category { public virtual int ID { get; private set; } public virtual string Title { get; set; } public virtual Guid UserID { get; set; } public Category() { // do nothing } } And the page where I save the object: public void Add(Category catToAdd) { using (ISession session = SessionProvider.GetSession()) { using (ITransaction Transaction = session.BeginTransaction()) { session.Save(catToAdd); Transaction.Commit(); } } } I receive the error Invalid object name 'Category'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid object name 'Category'. I think it might be that I haven't told the CategoryMap class to use the "sv_Categories" table, but I'm not sure how to do that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • add array element to row returned from sql query

    I want to add an additional value into an array before passing it to json_encode function, but I can't get the syntax right. $result = db_query($query); // $row is a database query result resource while ($row = db_fetch_object($result)) { $stack[] = $row; // I am trying to 'inject' array element here $stack[]['x'] = "test"; } echo json_encode($stack);

  • Is count(*) really expensive ?

    - by Anil Namde
I have a page where I have 4 tabs displaying 4 different reports based off different tables. I obtain the row count of each table using a select count(*) from <table> query and display number of rows available in each table on the tabs. As a result, each page postback causes 5 count(*) queries to be executed (4 to get counts and 1 for pagination) and 1 query for getting the report content. Now my question is: are count(*) queries really expensive -- should I keep the row counts (at least those that are displayed on the tab) in the view state of page instead of querying multiple times? How expensive are COUNT(*) queries ?

  • How to avoid geometric slowdown with large Linq transactions?

    - by Shaul
I've written some really nice, funky libraries for use in LinqToSql. (Some day when I have time to think about it I might make it open source... :) ) Anyway, I'm not sure if this is related to my libraries or not, but I've discovered that when I have a large number of changed objects in one transaction, and then call DataContext.GetChangeSet(), things start getting reaalllly slooowwwww. When I break into the code, I find that my program is spinning its wheels doing an awful lot of Equals() comparisons between the objects in the change set. I can't guarantee this is true, but I suspect that if there are n objects in the change set, then the call to GetChangeSet() is causing every object to be compared to every other object for equivalence, i.e. at best (n^2-n)/2 calls to Equals()... Yes, of course I could commit each object separately, but that kinda defeats the purpose of transactions. And in the program I'm writing, I could have a batch job containing 100,000 separate items, that all need to be committed together. Around 5 billion comparisons there. So the question is: (1) is my assessment of the situation correct? Do you get this behavior in pure, textbook LinqToSql, or is this something my libraries are doing? And (2) is there a standard/reasonable workaround so that I can create my batch without making the program geometrically slower with every extra object in the change set?

  • How to add user customized data to database?

    - by CSharperWithJava
I am trying to design a sqlite database that will store notes. Each of these notes will have common fields like title, due date, details, priority, and completed. In addition though, I would like to add data for more specialized notes like price for shopping list items and author/publisher data for books. I also want to have a few general purpose fields that users can fill with whatever text data they want. How can I design my database table in this case? I could just have a field for each piece of data for every note, but that would waste a lot of fields and I'd like to have other options and suggestions.
