• IO completion port key confusion

  I'm writing an IO completion port based server (source code here) using the Windows DLL API in Python using the ctypes module. But this is a pretty direct usage of the API and this question is directed at those who have a knowledge of IOCP, not Python. As I understand the documentation for CreateIoCompletionPort, you specify your "user defined" completion key when you call this function with a file handle (in my case a socket) you are associating with the created IOCP. When you get around to calling GetQueuedCompletionStatus, you get a completion key value along with a pointer to an overlapped object. The completion key should identify what overlapped object and request has completed. However, let's say I pass in 100 as the completion key in my CreateIoCompletionPort call with an overlapped object. When the same overlapped object has its IO completed and it arrives back through GetQueuedCompletionStatus, the completion key that accompanies it is much larger and bares no resemblance to the original value of 100. Am I misunderstanding how the completion key works, or must I be doing it wrong in the source code I linked above?

  I have a scenario where I have multiple threads adding to a queue and multiple threads reading from the same queue. If the queue reaches a specific size all threads that are filling the queue will be blocked on add until an item is removed from the queue. The solution below is what I am using right now and my question is: How can this be improved? • Referencing CDI producer method result in h:selectOneMenu

  I have a named session scoped bean CustomerRegistration which has a named producer method getNewCustomer which returns a Customer object. There is also CustomerListProducer class which produces all customers as list from the database. On the selectCustomer.xhtml page the user is then able to select one of the customers and submit the selection to the application which then simply prints out the last name of the selected customer. Now this only works when I reference the selected customer on the facelets page via #{customerRegistration.newCustomer}. When I simply use #{newCustomer} then the output for the last name is null whenever I submit the form. What's going on here? Is this the expected behavior as according to chapter 7.1 Restriction upon bean instantion of JSR-299 spec? It says: ... However, if the application directly instantiates a bean class, instead of letting the container perform instantiation, the resulting instance is not managed by the container and is not a contextual instance as defined by Section 6.5.2, “Contextual instance of a bean”.   in a C# file i have a class Archiver { [DllImport("Archiver.dll")] public static extern void archive(string data, StringBuilder response); } string data is an input, and StringBuilder response is where the function writes something the archive function prototype (written in C) looks like this: void archive(char * dataChr, char * outChr); and it receives a string in dataChr, and then does a strcpy(outChr,"some big text"); from C# i call it something like this: string message = "some text here"; StringBuilder response = new StringBuilder(10000); Archiver.archive(message,response); this works, but the problem, as you might see is that i give a value to the StringBuilder size, but the archive function might give back a (way) larger text than the size i've given to my StringBuilder. any way to fix this?

• iPhone RSS thumbnail

  I have a simple RSS reader. Stories are downloaded, put into a UITableView, and when you click it, each story loads in a UIWebView. It works great. Now though, I'd like to incorporate an image on the left side (like you'd see in the YouTube app). However, since my app pulls from an RSS feed, I can't simply specify image X to appear in row X because row X will be row Y tomorrow, and things will get out of order, you know? I am currently pulling from a YouTube RSS feed, and can get the video title, description, publication date, but I'm stuck as to how to pull the little thumbnail besides each entry in the feed. As you can probably tell, I'm a coding newbie (this being my first application other than a Hello World app) and I'm getting so frustrated by my own lack of knowledge. Thanks!   Hi, I need to split a date string into pieces and I'm doing it using the public final StringBuffer format (Object object, StringBuffer buffer, FieldPosition field) from the java.text.DateFormat class. However, the implementation of this function is really slow, hence Android has an own implementation in android.text.format.DateFormat. BUT, in my case, I want to extract the different pieces of the date string (year, minute and so on). Since I need to be locale independent, I can not use SimpleDateFormat and custom strings. I do it as follows: Calendar c = ... // find out what field to extract int field = getField(); // Create a date string Field calendarField = DateFormat.Field.ofCalendarField(field); FieldPosition fieldPosition = new FieldPosition(calendarField); StringBuffer label = new StringBuffer(); label = getDateFormat().format(c.getTime(), label, fieldPosition); // Find the piece that we are looking for int beginIndex = fieldPosition.getBeginIndex(); int endIndex = fieldPosition.getEndIndex(); String asString = label.substring(beginIndex, endIndex); For some reason, the format() overload with the FieldPosition argument is not included in the android platform. • Visual Studio Unit Test failure to start

  Hi, I am having an issue when starting the tests under debug mode in Visual Studio 2008 Team Test where it gives the following error: "Failed to queue test run '{user@machinename}': Object reference not set to an instance of an object." I googled for the error but no joy. Don't even understand what it means as it is too brief. Has anyone come across this? Note that I can run tests fine if I am not debugging and I get the same error irrespective of the test I run. • Why MSMQ won't send a space character?

  I'm exploring MSMQ services, and I wrote a simple console client-server application that sends each of the client's keystrokes to the server. Whenever hit a control character (DEL, ESC, INS, etc) the server understandably throws an error. However, whenever I type a space character, the server receives the packet but doesn't throw an error and doesn't display the space. It based on dirent(which is a small wrapper around FindNextFileA) In my first benchmarks it is surprisingy slow: around 123473ms for 4500 files(thinkpad t60p local samsung 320 GB 2.5" HD). 121481 files found in 123473 milliseconds Is this speed normal? • Virtual member call in a constructor when assigning value to property

  I have an Abstract class and a Derived class. The abstract class defines an abstract property named Message. In the derived class, the property is implemented by overriding the abstract property. The constructor of the derived class takes a string argument and assigns it to its Message property. In Resharper, this assignment leads to a warning "Virtual member call in constructor". In this example, I understand what is meant by a virtual member being called. The member call occurs in the base class, in which only a virtual method exists. In my situation however, I don't see why assigning a value to Message would be calling a virtual member. Both the call to and the implementation of the Message property are defined in the derived class. Although I can get rid of the error by making my Derived Class sealed, I would like to understand why this situation is resulting in the warning.

• JSON.Net: deserializing polymorphic types without specifying the assembly

  I see that using JSON.Net, I can decode polymorphic objects if a $type attribute specifies the specific type of the JSON object. In all the examples I've seen, $type includes the namespace. Is it possible to make this work including just a simple typename without the assembly?   There's Active directory on windows 2000 advance server, I have a web server on Windows 2008 server Enterprise Edition, the following code works fine in Winsows 2003 server but when I installed Win 2008 server, it gives me the following error, the webserver is not subdomain of the AD server. but they have the same range IP address. A local error has occurred.\r\n"} System.Exception system.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException} I want to Authenticate Via AD from my webserver, I even test the port 389 and it was open(by telnet), I even added port 389 UDP and TCP to firewall of webserver to be sure it is open, even I turned the firewall off but nothing changed. I don't know what's wrong with Windows 2008 server that cannot run my code, I search Internet but I found nothing. any solution would be helpful. When I run my program on the Eclipse my output looks on console alright and multiline, and there are line breaks where they should be. And create for this purpose such model public class UserUrlInfo{ public int UserId{get;set;} public string UserCountry{get;set;} public string UserLogin{get;set;} } I want to create controller method where I pass UserUrlInfo object but not all required fields. Classic controller method for url template shown above is following public ActionResult Index(int UserId, string UserCountry, string UserLogin){ return View(); } and we need to call it like that Html.ActionLink<UserController>(x=>Index(user.UserId, user.UserCountry, user.UserLogin), "See user page") I want to create such controller method public ActionResult Index(UserUrlInfo userInfo){ return View(); } and call it like that: Html.ActionLink<UserController>(x=>Index(user), "See user page") Actually I works when we add one more route and point it to the same controller method, so routing will be: /user/{userInfo} /user/{UserId}/{UserCountry}/{UserLogin} In this situation routing engine gets string method of our model (need to override it) and it works ALMOST always. But sometimes it fails and show url like /page/?userInfo=/US/John So my workaround does not always work properly. Does anybody know how to work with urls in such way?

• How to create a SHA1 digest on a tree of objects?

  Let's say that I have a tree of objects of which every one have a string representation. I want to create a SHA1 digest on the whole tree. The easiest way would be to recursively go over each node of the tree. For each node I would concatenate (as simple strings) the SHA1 digests of all the children, add the string representation of the given nod to this concatenated string, and do a SHA1 on it. This would be the SHA1 digest of the given node. The question is will this digest be just as "good" as if I would have concatenated the string representation of the child nodes, and not the digests of the child nodes? Thanks
