  • Win 7 Wireless Connected With Good Signal But No Internet Access

    In Windows 7 I was connected wirelessly for about a week when one day I came home and the wireless was connected with a strong signal but it said that I had "No Internet Access" It's been 3 days since then now and I have yet to find a way to fix it. My wireless drivers are right off the disk that came with the wireless card. Can anyone help me?   • Minimalistic flatfile "wall" software with authentication and RSS?

    I am looking for an open-source minimalistic "message board" PHP software. Not a forum, more something like one simple facebook wall. The only thing a user can do is post a new message. With RSS, and able to run on flat files (no database) with Apache+PHP Authentication based on a configuration file, no management UI needed. For that I'm looking for the easiest way of writing messages which then get syndicated as RSS feed. Something like a mini blog tool. The simpler the better. Enter title, body and send, all subscribers of the feed get the new message. Sort of like Twitter without using Twitter.   • Targus USB-to-RS232 not working with Linux?

    I have the Targus PA088 USB to RS232 converter, but it seems that it does not work with linux. Its RX and TX lights are flashing, but I can't see the data in minicom/picocom. When using it with Windows and hterm, everything's fine. Any idea what could be the problem?     Pages at the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox site often feature buttons that say "Add to Firefox". Clicking on such a button causes a Firefox extension to be downloaded and installed. I am looking for a convenient way to limit this action to the download step only, so that in the end I am left with the downloaded *.xpi file in my disk. Thanks! P.S. The following approach is not only inconvenient: it doesn't work!. Inspect the HTML for the button, and extract a URL like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/1234/addon-1234-latest.xpi?src=search give or take the stuff after .xpi. at the command-line prompt, download this URL with wget or curl. This download attempt just hangs. (Even if it didn't, I'd like to find a less cumbersome approach.)

  • Flash video for Windows/VirtualDub/media player

    I don't want to install any codec packs because I remember the last time I did it unwanted results occurred. (I think a codec didn't play nice with an application and was a known problem with the codec. I think). I would like to open up Flash videos (.flv) in VirtualDub. I have a plugin for VirtualDub I just need the codec now. I tried putting DLLs into the VirtualDub folder but that didn't solve the problem. How can I get a codec for VirtualDub to use to decompress Flash video files?

  • Cheap desktop computer in 19" rack-mountable form-factor?

    I'm a high school teacher at a small private school. As of this year, we have SMARTBoards in every classroom (though I've had one in the class I share for two years now). The classrooms themselves don't have computers in them, so we teachers bring our laptops to class and connect them to the boards. This has several disadvantages: This takes a few minutes while we wait for the board to boot up and then orient the board to our individual laptop -- we have to do this every time b/c different teachers have different laptops requiring different orientations. This isn't ideal because when you only have 43 minutes per class period, waiting five minutes just to get started is a real waste. Carrying your laptop to class doesn't sound so bad until you consider that we're also carrying textbooks and piles of student papers, and we're carrying it all through crowded high school hallways. More than one laptop has fallen THUNK to the floor, with dire consequences. We feel we could eliminate the need to use our laptops with the SMARTBoards if we had a dedicated computer in each classroom hooked up to the board at all times. Each board set-up is connected to a podium with a standard 19" rack in it, currently housing a power supply and DVD player. There're plenty of rack spaces available. So I'm thinking: maybe we could get some inexpensive computers in a 19" rack-mountable form factor, install them in the podiums, and connect them to the boards on a permanent basis. Any suggestions?

  • Apple - best way to clean the mighty mouse?

    As much as I love Apple products' designs, I still don't like the mighty mouse. The scrolling keeps stopping in between very frequently. I tried the instructions provided on Apple's site and it does make the scrolling smooth but only momentarily. Isn't there any way to open it up and clean like a normal mouse? Or any other way to clean it better? Thanks.

  • Electricity in VAIO laptop ports while plugged in

    I have VAIO E series (SVE) laptop. While charger plugged in, touching VGA/HDMI/USB port metal casing gives me burning sensation. So, i checked it with voltmeter and i found that while plugged in there is presences of DC +1.0 V. Same case with my friend's VAIO E Series (VPCEH). Service center says this is normal. But i do not believe them as it is not the case with Dell Inspiron. Please let me know if you are facing same problem with VAIO and is it hazardous to devices which i connect to these ports (like HDD, LED, etc)?

  • BIOS setting: AHCI or RAID (when using SSD + 2x HDD in RAID-0)

    Hello there, I want to add a new SSD and use it as system drive with Win7 x64 installed. As driver I chose newest Intel Rapid Storage driver (not MSAHCI). I know that I have to use AHCI as BIOS setting for optimal SSD read/write performance. But I'm also using 2 normal HDDs as separate RAID-0 SSD: Win7 HDD: RAID-0 HDD: RAID-0 If I set my BIOS on my ASUS P5W DH Deluxe to AHCI, my RAID-0 cant be recognized And If im using RAID as setting, maybe my SSD has not its top speed. But I'm not sure about that. In short: AHCI no RAID-0 RAID no optimal SSD performance (?) Now my question: Can I use RAID as BIOS setting and be sure, that theres no decrease in SSD performance? Google finds so many articles with similar topics and my head is just exploding. Two examples: - set AHCI and after installing OS switch to RAID as BIOS setting... what? - use a diskette and F6 while installing win7... really? O.o I thought those times are gone

    Fresh install of CentOS 5.4 Downloaded the following: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/webadmin/webmin-1.510.tar.gz MD5 sum is correct (cdcc09d71d85d81914a90413eaf21d3f). The file is located here: /tmp/webmin-1.510.tar.gz tmp and webmin-1.510.tar.gz both have chmod 777. I am logged in as root. Command: tar -zxfv webmin-1.510.tar Result: tar: v: Cannot open: No such file or directory tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now tar: Child returned status 2 tar: webmin-1.510.tar: Not found in archive tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors Never run across this before. It's like it thinks that v is a file I want to extract, but its one of the command arguments... If I leave out the v... tar -zxf webmin-1.510.tar.gz The command stalls. It doesn't do anything. Just goes to the next line and no prompt comes up. I have to CTRL-C to get back to the prompt and a ls verifies that it didn't extract anything... My first reaction is that its not a valid tar/gz file or something. But the MD5 matches just fine. So I'm at a loss just a bit...

  • External mouse clicks not working during UAC prompt/windows or other elevated privilege programs

    I have a Logitech Revolution VX, a small portable mouse. I use it on my laptop running Windows 7 64bit Professional. When a UAC prompt comes up, I can use the mouse to move the pointer, however any clicking via the external mouse is disabled. I have to use my trackpad to actually click. This continues on into whatever UAC window comes next, such as a program install. The mouse pointer can move via my external mouse, but no button clicks register except on the trackpad. This also happens if I am to right click a program and select "Run as Administrator". The external mouse will move the pointer, but no button clicks work. I've tried to google for this issue but haven't found anything. To be it seems generally a problem with my external mouse driver not running with elevated privileges itself. Any help would be appreciated.

  • How can I use Outlook 2007 to connect to mail service using active sync protocol

    Has anyone tried connected outlook(I am running v2007 on Windows 7) to a mail service using the MS Exchange Active Sync protocol? If so, how did you do it? Wouldn't this solution probably eliminate the need for all the hacks/APIs needed to connect outlook to 'X' mail (Gmail, notes, etc)? I know it is intended for mobile devices, but to me it looks like it is becoming the latest 'de facto' mail protocol for email/calendar/contact sync'ing due to the iPhone's support for it. Thanks!

    Hello, I just found out by using TCPView that one of my svchost.exe had an http connection in "CLOSE_WAIT" to a strange ip address, although no other visible program was running. With the help of Process Explorer I discovered that this svchost was using the WebClient windows service. I'm wondering how I can figure out what program used WebClient to connect to this ip, in order to determine if it's malware.

  • samba shares dissapear everynight

    I have ubuntu 8.04lts and recently a weird problem has been cropping up. every night something happens and in the morning my coworkers cant see the shares. If i try to remote into the machine via ssh i don't get a prompt . when i rebooted the machine i would get a "video cannot be displayed in this mode" screen and no other activity on the box. I booted from grub into recovery and tried doing a package repair (keeping my smb.conf) and that didn't seem to do anything after a few other reboots I was able to get it to come up (im not sure what i did) yesterday it did teh same thing i booted to recovery then did a repair xserver and it came right up so i thought that resovled the issue but then today same thing anyone have any idea on what i can look for (im very new to linux in general) worst case sennerio can i just reinstall ubuntu over again with out blowing out the data?
