  • UIButton not firing selector if I draw it using CALayer

    - by Horatiu Paraschiv
Hi everybody I create this button like this: _myButton = [[UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom] retain]; DLBadgeLayerDelegate *layerDelegate = [[DLBadgeLayerDelegate alloc] init]; _myButton.frame = CGRectMake(0.0 , 0.0, 100.0, 100.0); [_myButton addTarget:self action:@selector(myButtonTapped:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; _myButton.layer.backgroundColor = [[UIColor redColor] CGColor]; _myButton.center = CGPointMake(10.0, 10.0); [self addSubview:_myButton]; [_myButton release]; The button appears on the screen but if I tap on it nothing happens. If I just create a Rounded rect button instead with no custom drawing on its layer or if I just leave the layer line of code out all works well. Do you have any Idea why do I get this behaviour as I would like to do some custom drawing in the button's layer?

  • UIPopoverController gesture handling in UISplitViewController for iOS 5.1 and below

    - by 5StringRyan
I've (along with many others) have noticed that Apple changed the appearance of the popover controller to use a "slider" window rather than the usual "popover" tableview that I've used. While I'm okay with the new appearance, like others I'm having issues with the swipe gesture that is introduced: iOS 5.1 swipe gesture hijacked by UISplitViewController - how to avoid? The fix for this seems to be to set the split view controller method "presentWithGesture" to "NO." UISplitViewController *splitViewController = [[UISplitViewController alloc] init]; splitViewController.presentsWithGesture = NO; This works great if the user is using iOS 5.1, however, if this code is run using iOS 5.0 or below, an exception is thrown since this method is only available for iOS 5.1: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[UISplitViewController setPresentsWithGesture:]: unrecognized selector Is it possible to get rid of this gesture without using this method so that it's backwards compatible with iOS' 5.0 and below?

  • Why doesn’t ABPersonViewController show any properties besides the name?

    - by abrahamvegh
    For some reason, ABPersonViewController is unwilling to display any properties aside from the name, no matter what properties are set for it to display. I’m unable to use the AddressBookUI controllers to let a user select a contact to display, since my UI has custom requirements, otherwise I’d go that route (as Apple does in their sample project.) Here’s the code that doesn’t work — am I missing something? - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { // ABContact is of my own creation ABContact *contact = [self contactAtIndexPath: indexPath]; ABPersonViewController *viewController = [[ABPersonViewController alloc] init]; // This returns a valid ABRecordRef, as indicated by the fact that the // controller does display the name of this contact when it is loaded viewController.displayedPerson = contact.record; // Copied directly from Apple’s QuickContacts sample project NSArray *displayedItems = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:[NSNumber numberWithInt:kABPersonPhoneProperty], [NSNumber numberWithInt:kABPersonEmailProperty], [NSNumber numberWithInt:kABPersonBirthdayProperty], nil]; viewController.displayedProperties = displayedItems; [self.navigationController pushViewController: viewController animated: YES]; [viewController release]; }

  • NULL value when using NSDateFormatter

    - by David A Gibson
Hello, I am using the following code to try and display in a time in a table cell. TimeSlot *timeSlot = [timeSlots objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; NSDateFormatter *timeFormat = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init]; [timeFormat setDateFormat:@"%1m/%1d/%Y"]; NSLog(@"Time: %@", timeSlot.time); NSDate *mydate = timeSlot.time; NSLog(@"Time: %@", mydate); NSString *theTime = [timeFormat stringFromDate:mydate]; NSLog(@"Time: %@", theTime); The log output is this: 2010-04-14 10:23:54.626 MyApp[1080:207] Time: 2010-04-14T10:23:54 2010-04-14 10:23:54.627 MyApp[1080:207] Time: 2010-04-14T10:23:54 2010-04-14 10:23:54.627 MyApp[1080:207] Time: (null) I am new to developing for the iPhone and as it all compiles with no errors or warnings I am at a loss as to why I am getting NULL in the log. Is there anything wrong with this code? Thanks

  • current location from CoreLocation

    - by Christian
I have an App which launches the google Map App. The code is: UIApplication *app = [UIApplication sharedApplication]; [app openURL:[[NSURL alloc] initWithString: @"http://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=Obere+Laube,+Konstanz,+Germany&saddr="]]; The saddr= should be the current location. I get the current location with -(void)locationManager:(CLLocationManager *)manager didUpdateToLocation:(CLLocation *)newLocation fromLocation:(CLLocation *)oldLocation { NSLog(@"%f,%f", [newLocation coordinate]); The Log displays the correct coordinates like 2010-04-05 15:33:25.436 deBordeaux[60657:207] 37.331689,-122.030731 I didn't find the right way to transmit the coordinates to the url-string. Does someone can give me a hint how-to?

  • Load nsimage from url but only some url's work

    - by happyCoding25
I have some code that loads an image file off the web and puts it in an image view. The problem is it works with everything but Google Charts. This is frustrating because I was relying on this to graph data for my app. Heres the url I need to load: Click to see my test chart. Im not sure why NSImage seems to refuse to load this when it works with everything elese. If you know why or have a work-around any help is appreciated. Heres some sample code I found that I'm using to load the images: NSURL *imageURL = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=p3&chs=700x400&chd=t:20,20,20,20,20&chl=A|B|C|D|E&chco=66FF33,3333CC"]; NSLog(@"url"); NSData *imageData = [imageURL resourceDataUsingCache:NO]; NSLog(@"data"); NSImage *imageFromBundle = [[NSImage alloc] initWithData:imageData]; (Note: This code will load any image except a chart) Thanks

  • Push/Present Modal View Controller

    - by Yakattak
    I have a table in my view controller (let's call it TVC1). I have rows in TVC1 that are used so the user can input some more data in addition to the data on TVC1. So, when someone taps a specific row in TVC1, it will show another view controller (let's call it TVC2). However, when TVC2 is shown, all of the data in TVC1 is cleared. How can I save the data in TVC1? Should I do it through the app delegate? DescriptionInputViewController *descriptionController = [[DescriptionInputViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DescriptionInputView" bundle:nil]; [self presentModalViewController:navController animated:YES]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:descriptionController animated:YES]; [descriptionController release];

  • Preparing a Universal App for iPhone SDK 3.2

    - by user133611
Hi all, I am working on a universal app, I used UISplitViewController in doing iPad application. I followed the Universal app guidelines i.e, i keep base SDK as 3.2, iPhone Target OS ad iPhone OS 3.1.3, Taget device as iPhone/iPad. And i used "Adding Runtime Checks for Newer Symbols" for UISplitViewController and UIPopOverController. Class splitVCClass = NSClassFromString(@"UISplitViewController"); if (splitVC) { UISplitViewController* mySplitViewController = [[splitVCClass alloc] init]; // Configure the split view controller. } I used this in .m files I declared UIPopOverController in .h files also "dyld: Symbol not found: _OBJC_CLASS_$_UIPopoverController Referenced from: /var/mobile/Applications/9E0CE75F-D2A9-4132-AE56-1780928BCF21/UniversalTasks.app/UniversalTasks Expected in: /System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework/UIKit in /var/mobile/Applications/9E0CE75F-D2A9-4132-AE56-1780928BCF21/UniversalTasks.app/UniversalTasks" What i have to do can any one help me out

  • Animation on the iPhone - use image sequence or rotation?

    - by user157733
I am creating a basic animation for my iPhone app. I have a choice to make between 2 different types of animation. I can use this... NSArray *myImages = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [UIImage imageNamed:@"myImage1.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"myImage2.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"myImage3.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"myImage4.gif"], nil]; UIImageView *myAnimatedView = [UIImageView alloc]; [myAnimatedView initWithFrame:[self bounds]]; myAnimatedView.animationImages = myImages; myAnimatedView.animationDuration = 0.25; [self addSubview:myAnimatedView]; [myAnimatedView release]; or something like this... [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1.5]; // other animations goes here myImage.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(M_PI*0.5); // other animations goes here [UIView commitAnimations]; I have quite a few of these parts to animate so I want to choose an option which uses the least amount of memory and runds the quickest. Any advice would be great, thanks

  • Can NSDictionary be used with TableView on iPhone?

    - by bobo
In a UITableViewController subclass, there are some methods that need to be implemented in order to load the data and handle the row selection event: - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return 1; //there is only one section needed for my table view } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { return [myList count]; //myList is a NSDictionary already populated in viewDidLoad method } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease ]; } // indexPath.row returns an integer index, // but myList uses keys that are not integer, // I don't know how I can retrieve the value and assign it to the cell.textLabel.text return cell; } - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { // Handle row on select event, // but indexPath.row only returns the index, // not a key of the myList NSDictionary, // this prevents me from knowing which row is selected } How is NSDictionary supposed to work with TableView? What is the simplest way to get this done?

  • iPhone - Setting background on UITableView

    - by Hans Espen
Is there any way to set a background view on a UITableViewController? I try with the code I am using on a UIViewController, but the view comes over all the contents of the table view, and if I add the background view in the cellForRowAtIndexPath-method, it is not showing at all. Anyone done this before or have an idea on how it can be done? Here is the code I am using: UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed: @"background.jpg"]; UIImageView *backImage = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage: image]; [self.view addSubview: backImage]; [self.view sendSubviewToBack: backImage]; Thanks

  • Autoresizing subclassed UITableViewCell subviews

    - by JustinXXVII
I've subclassed UITableViewCell and incorporated some subviews via the layoutSubviews method. All views are allocated and initiated in the initWithStyle method, and frames are set in the layoutSubviews method, like so: initWithStyle:... { UILabel *myLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero]; myLabel.someProperties = Configured; [self.contentView addSubview:myLabel]; layoutSubviews { CGRect labelRect = CGRectMake(10.0f, 5.0f, 35.0f, 180.0f); myLabel.frame = labelRect; Setting the shouldAutoRotateOrientation to YES in the viewController rotates the NavigationController, tableView and UIToolbar appropriately, but the contents of the tableViewCells don't move. I'm not clear on where or what to add as far as AutoResizingMasks. The combinations I've tried so far haven't done anything. Can someone give me a hand? Thanks!

  • Doesn't [UIWindow addSubView:] retain?

    - by Dan Ray
Check it: NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSLog(@"Checking login--user value is %@", [defaults valueForKey:@"userID"]); if ([defaults valueForKey:@"userID"] == NULL){ LoginViewController *loginController = [[LoginViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"LoginView" bundle:nil]; [window addSubview:loginController.view]; [loginController release]; } else { [window addSubview:[navigationController view]]; } Every other place when I put a subview into another view, I release that view after I've done that, because it's now owned by the view it's a subview of. HERE, though, when I do [loginController release], every IBAction on that loginController gets called against a deallocated instance. Commenting out that line makes everything work. I note the difference in approach between my loginController and the navigationController that came with the template; the navigationController is a synthesized property that gets released in -(void)dealloc{ }, so it's still around after being put into window.

  • iPhone app memory leak

    - by Marian Busoi
Any idea why this code gives me a memory leak? As you can see, I'm running out of ideas as to what I can do to stop it. (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; NSArray *allSketches = [project.sketches allObjects]; NSMutableArray *temp = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithArray:allSketches]; if(sketchesArray != nil) [sketchesArray release]; [self setSketchesArray:temp]; [allSketches release]; allSketches = nil; [temp release]; temp = nil; } I also release sketchesArray inside viewDidDissapear. I'm not using viewDidLoad and dealloc to init/release these objects as what I am doing requires me to use viewWillAppear and viewDidDissapear. Thanks

  • Can you manually add to an iPhone/iPad Navigation Bar a back button item?

I have a reference to a "UIBarButtonItem", is there a way I can add a custom "Back Navigation Button" to that item when it is not part of a Navigation based view? I can add a left button: UIBarButtonItem *backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Custom Back" style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:@selector(backAction:)]; menuItem.backBarButtonItem = backButton; //This doesn't seem to work. menuItem.popOverNavigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = backButton; //This shows a normal button So how could I make the leftmost button look like a back navigation button?

  • Anti-aliasing not working when resizing a UIWebView

    - by nickcartwright
I'd like to add a Web View to my app at 60% scale (like seen in Safari in the browse other windows view): Notice how the content looks nice and Aliased! If I try and add the same Web view to my app: NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.google.co.uk?q=hello"]; NSURLRequest *request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; UIWebView *webView = [[UIWebView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 400)]; webView.delegate=self; [webView loadRequest:request]; [self.view addSubview:webView]; Using the following transformation: [webView setTransform:CGAffineTransformMakeScale(0.6, 0.6)]; ..the scale is really bad quality and there appears to be no anti-aliasing. Does anyone know why this is happening or have a suggestion on how it could be fixed? Thanks! Nick.
