  I'm doing something similar to close caption but not exactly the same. I have a youtube video, and I want to display certain messages at specific points in the video. When the video loads, I pull entries from the database in the format time and sentence. For example, at 0:20 the speaker says "don't forget to write down my email that you see on the side" and I want to display the email on the side. At 0:50, he says "and I'll post my office hours" so I want to show those office hours at that time. How can I do this. The video itself is hosted on youtube, but is being displayed on a private website. The div where I want to display the messages is <div id="write">.

  hello. I am using gcc on linux to compile C++ code. There are some exceptions which should not be handled and should close program. However, I would like to be able to display exception string: For example: throw std::runtime_error(" message"); does not display message, only type of error. I would like to display messages as well. Is there way to do it? it is a library, I really do not want to put catch statements and let library user decide. However, right now library user is fortran, which does not allow to handle exceptions. in principle, I can put handlers in wrapper code, but rather not to if there is a way around Thanks

• X11, how to detect I’m the last window/application on the display

  I have an x11 display with a windowmanager (sadly not a specific one, could be twm, dtwm, mwm, metacity …) , myApp and other applications with windows. I want to close the display if the other applications are closed and myApp is the only one with windows on the display. I do know the windows of myApp, but how do I distinguish between the windows of the windowmanger and of the other applications. I’m currently polling with xwininfo -tree -root -children and comparing this to what I’m expecting, but this only works in a ‘well defined’ environment. It seems that many of the above mentioned windowmanager don’t support EWMH.

• Fix for: Xlib: extension "XINERAMA" missing on display

  I am using Xming 6.9 with putty trying to run libreoffice remotely. It works well, but an error line appears in the terminal from where I launch it: Xlib: extension "XINERAMA" missing on display "localhost:12.0". Looks like it needs this extension but I can't find the necessary dll file (libXinerama-1.dll) for it as it is not included in the package. I ask for a link from where I could download this file (I accept a hit with a lmgtfy if you can do it) or the source code of it and how to complie it on my win7 machine... or just a surface fix could do it also if it is really clean and simple: hide the error line.

  The elapsed and total time display in Foobar 2000 with the Metro skin (download here) I use, is not aligned properly. I can't see the minutes track has played, which comes first. The time to the right of the track name is chopped. However on the seekbar it is ok. Click for a full sized image There are scripts in the ELPlaylist settings window which I get when I right click on the playlist window. But unfortunately I don't know which parameter if any in the script should be changed to set a proper time format for the track duration, which would allow me to see the elapsed time.   I have a website secured by a standard SSL certificate, securing a few different shops under different subdirectories. Ex. domain.com/shop1/ The shops are also accessible via a subdomain e.g. shop1.domain.com. What I'm trying to accomplish: display shop1.domain.com to the user, while keeping all of the actual server calls as domain.com/shop1, so that the secure pages will continue to work properly. (Not sure if I'm using the proper language, exactly, I hope my point is clear.) To be clear: my SSL is working fine, and I don't need help with that, and I don't need or want to purchase a UCC cert. It can't be that difficult for anyone with experience with Apache. (I've spent 3 hours trying to learn about mod_rewrite. It's just not clicking.) I'm on a GoDaddy secure shared server, so please keep in mind that I'm not able to reset the server or anything.

  I was looking for a way to display a usage agreement page in browsers that users must agree to before they are allowed to access the internet. This would be for users on public computers and public/open wifi. I'm using a sonicwall firewall which does support this feature, however, there is a rediculously low character limit which makes it impractical to use. I thought about setting the browser's homepage to a usage agreement page, but that can easily be bypassed by navigating to somewhere else. Are there any other approaches that may be worth considering? There is currently no server in place on the public network, though I can set one up if need be.

Rsyslog has become the default on most linux distro. Requirements have changed (security, software configuration management, ...). I'd like to ask the following questions : How do you centralize, display and archive system logs? How would you like to do it now if you had to? Most linux distro use rsyslog nowadays, which can provide reliable log transport. But some older unices, network devices and maybe windows box still use old udp rfc-style transport. How did you manage to get reliable transport? Storing logs for a few months can represent a huge amount of disk space. How do you store them? rdbms? Compressed and encrypted text files?

• Remote Desktop not following display settings

  I have my RDP client set up to use highest settings for connecting to another PC on my LAN, which has display settings 1280x1024x32bit. RDP is specifically set to use 32bit depth, but when I connect it drops to 16bit. The PC I connect to is (amongst other things) used to do some 3D graphics. I don't expect great performance, just to check it works... but it doesn't over RDP, the 3D app doesn't think the hardware is the same. Does RDP's integration with Windows mean it is providing some virtualised rendering system? Should I use something less 'clever' like VNC, to literally screen-grab the contents of the screen without altering the settings?

  Hi all. I would like to set a special configuration in our apache web server. I would like to display sites to the users according their IP addresses. We plan to upgrade our web sites. During the upgrade we'll put a maintenance site: so all the users which will connect to our web sites will get this site. but in order to test the upgrade i need to set apache to let only my IP address to access to asked site. If my IP address is a.b.c.d and if i ask for test_dot_com i want to see it. but all other users, having a different IP address, should get the maintenane site even if they look for test_dot_com.   On Windows XP, the total size of Recycle Bin could be seen easily, but I can't see it on Windows 7. Why did Microsoft hide/remove this feature? Am I missing something? REMARK 1: I don't need to see the maximum size that Recyle Bin can contain. REMARK 2: Once you have several files selected in the Recycle Bin, you get a "See more details" link in the status bar, but clicking on that does not display the total file size. Microsoft has apparently changed this.

• HDMI Audio drops out when display enters powersave

  I have a Windows 8 machine with an AMD APU attached to my Home Theater system through HDMI (HDMI routes through a Home Theater AMP, then into the TV). Here's my problem, Whenever the display is interrupted, usually by the TV being turned off or into powersave mode, the audio device lists as "Disconnected" in windows audio devices and I cant get it to re-recognize that the HDMI audio is, in fact, plugged in. The only solution I have found so far is to restart the machine, which will then recognize the device without any problems, until the next time the TV turns off and the problem once again resurfaces. Has anyone else seen this phenomenon? I have no idea if its the GPU, the HDMI interface, the AMP, or even the TV itself, as there really isn't much a way to tell...

It displays important information related to the business, I'd rather that random users that walk in can't just walk over to it and start using the computer with the same access rights as the user the monitoring software is running as. What I would like is if any time someone presses a button on the keyboard including alt-ctrl-delete all that would appear is a dialog asking for a password. Then I can click cancel and it will return to showing the data I want displayed. ClearLock doesn't work I tried it btw

• Multiple Graphics cards - Non Multi-Display Setup

  Is it possible for me to utilize the processing capabilities of multiple graphics cards, even if I'm only using one monitor? I recently bought a new AMD graphics card, fairly top of the line. I also have a two year old, decent nVidia card. They're obviously very different cards. I don't really mind for gaming because my current card can handle most games fine by itself. I'm concerned about video editing programs such as Adobe Premiere and After Effects. Would the system be able to utilize the power of both cards to, say, render a video? I have both drivers still installed on my machine. And because there is only one monitor connected to my current graphics card (AMD) the nVidia would be connected to no display. So I am wondering whether it would or could be utilized in some way to help in processing video. Thanks!

  I have a warning message that is displayed to a user after they enter their username to log in to our Linux servers. I only want to display this message for password authentications, and not when keys are used. It should only show to a user who is logging into a host, and not when they are sshing from one host to another (our hosts all have keys set up so we can ssh from one to another without entering passwords). Currently, I have a line for Banner in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file which points to a text file containing the warning message. Banner doesn't appear to have any further config options, so I'm wondering if there is a way to do this with pam or some other mechanism? Thanks.

• Security: Unable to display current owner

  I have a user with local administrative rights on their Windows 7 64-bit box. They extracted a file from a zip file they downloaded with the Zip shell extension to their desktop on a non-encrypted or compressed NTFS volume. Unfortunately they cannot open it. I tried to take ownership of it and it just reports "Access is Denied" and for the current owner it reports "Unable to display current owner." At this point the file cannot be deleted, executed or modified. I have actually seen this exact same happen in Vista before, but I can't for the life of me remember how to fix it. Any ideas how it happened or how to fix it? I'd be happy just to delete it without a format at this point.

• TCP > COM1 for receiving messages and displaying on POS display pole

  I currently have a Java Applet running on my web page that communicates to a display pole via COM1. However since the Java update I can no longer run self-signed Java Applets and I figure it would just be easier to send an AJAX request back to the server and have the server send a response to a TCP port on the computer...the computer would need a TCP COM virtual adapter. How do I install a virtual adapter to go from a TCP port to COM1? I've looked into com0com and that is just confusing as hell to me, and I don't see how to connect any ports to COM1. I've tried tcp2com but it doesn't seem to install the service in Windows 7 x64. I've tried com2tcp and the interface seems like it WOULD work (I haven't tested), but I don't want an app running on the desktop...it needs to be a service that runs in the background. So to summarize how it would work: Web page on comp1 sends AJAX request to server Server sends text response to comp1 on port 999 comp1 has virtual COM port listening on port 999, sends data to COM1 pole displays data

  Hi, I have problem with one my conputer, it does not display any website properly. The background clouds on some websites do not show up, the layout of some websites are not properly displayed. And it only happen to only one computer. OS: Windows XP IE: 7 (not working on either IE7 or IE 8) I have tried to add my website as trusted site still that site is not working properly. I also tried Internet Options Advanced ... Check Show images, smart image dithering, enable visual styles in button and controls on webwage. Is there anything else I could do to fix the problem? • Can't install newer NVIDIA display driver on Windows 7

  I'm using Windows 7, and the latest version of NVIDIA display driver I can install on my computer is 275.33 (or 266.58, I can't decide now, see below). When installing newer version of the driver (e.g. 275.50 and 280.26), the installer always fails at "Installing NVIDIA Control Panel", then Windows 7 reverts to 275.33 (the newest stock version?). I tried to find installation logs but couldn't find it. I tried to completely delete (in fact I renamed) c:\progra~1\nvidia~1 folder but still couldn't install. How to resolve this problem? Any help is appreciated.

• Primary monitor keeps reverting back to the laptop display

  A Macbook Pro running VMware Fusion has a guest operating system of Windows 7. The user often connects an external monitor to the laptop through an HDMI cable. For the display settings "extend the desktop" is selected and I keep setting the primary monitor as the external one but for some annoying reason it keeps changing back. So after Windows starts the taskbar and icons are on the laptop screen which we don't want. I know how to change it but it keeps changing back (and the computer user is non-technical).

  I got 3 display working in Linux. I have set it up so I have Xinerama and 3 different X sessions. So my 3 displays are not all the same size, two are 1680x1050 and then the other which is between the two is 2560x1600. So my issue is when I chose span, even if the image is larger than all 3 resolutions combined, the center monitor has bars at the top and the bottom because span scales the image it seems. Is there a way if I bypass the gui to have an image span all three monitors but with no scaling? Urgent! Please help! ;-)

  I do a lot of work on Windows Server 2008 remote desktops and often lose track of which host I am currently logged on to. Is there a way of displaying (without installing any non-standard apps) the host name or IP address of the host I am connected to in either the wallpaper or the notification area? I tried creating files in the desktop with the name of the machine - but my roaming profile shows the same set of desktop files on every machine, so that was scuppered. Duh! In shell windows this is easy: just set the prompt to display the host name. Surely there is a simple way of doing the same for the graphical desktop.

• Format Excel cells to display as '##:##:##'

  I'm trying to format cells in Excel so that they display the total duration of phone calls as hh:mm:ss, but Excel is giving me errors. Sometimes durations are only mm:ss (49:10), or even just ss (35), and I need them by default to change to 00:49:10 and 00:00:35 respectivly. However, when I select 'Custom' on the 'Number' tab when formatting the cells and enter either 00:00:00 or ##:##:##, Excel tells me - Microsoft Office Excel cannot use the number format you typed. Also, hh:mm:ss will not work for me, as I'm dealing in durations, not times. Is anyone able to tell me how do format this? Thanks.
