• Setting default working directory/drive in Emacs shell on Windows

  Hello, how can I change a default working directory/drive for shell in Emacs (on Windows)? Normally, shell starts in the same directory as the file in current buffer. However, when my current file is on D: drive, it starts in c:. Manually changing drive to D: in shell brings me to my directory of course, but I want to avoid this extra step. Is it possible?

  Are there any desktop antivirus products suitable for use in an enterprise environment without a Windows server? We're currently using McAfee for our Windows desktops but to get updates and alerts with the latest version it looks like you need to be running their EPO server software. I'd like to avoid the cost of hardware and Windows licensing, and if possible to run just client-based antivirus. • "error module dav_svn does not exist"

  I accidentally deleted the mod_svn on my webserver, and now I am stuck. Everything I try to do anything with it (remove it or reinstall it with apt-get), I get that message and apt fails. I know I could reinstall Apache, but I am trying to avoid that at all costs (unless I can do it in such a way that would keep my config files). Any ideas on how to deal with this?

  I have two NICs in a client PC. I have a WDS server. When I boot from PXE on client computer I receive: WdsClient: An error occurred while obtaining an IP address from the DHCP server. Please check to ensure that there is an operational DHCP server on this network segment. I think my client is trying to get an IP adress from the NIC which not connected to LAN.   We have a smallish web farm of < 5 Windows 2008 servers. Some do data, most do IIS hosting. Is it a good/bad idea to set up a domain controller and put all in the same "production" domain? We want to avoid a world where we have to sync multiple admin passwords between the boxes (or share admin credentials among the team). Presumably, the DC would be just another VM, so hardware cost doesn't enter into the discussion.

  I know I can make an easy transfer of everything using time machine, but I'm trying to transfer the minimum necessary to the new computer (applications I currently use, Aperture database, etc.) in order to keep the new machine as clean as possible, and avoid starting out with any legacy problems with permissions, etc. Clearly, I can copy individual apps and databases to an external drive and then install them on the new machine, but I'm trying to find an easier way.

Can I use a packet sniffer here to determine if the user is downloading something?   Are they any method to protect video files with password, so player will ask for the pasword before playback? Currently I am protecting private video files using zip compression with password but it is very inconvenient. • Convert word to "JPEG-like" pdf file

  I've got a word document I'm trying to save to an uneditable, unselectable PDF file. Essentially, I'd like it to look like a JPEG, but in PDF format.   On my Windows Vista PC, there is always an instance of "GoogleUpdate.exe" running. I find this annoying, so I'd like to make sure it doesn't start automatically. This proves to be not so easy, as I have tried these solutions: I disabled the "Google updateservice" service I removed the registry section "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Google Update" None of these worked. The registry section is simply re-added. Does anyone know the trick to avoid GoogleUpdate.exe to be started after booting the system?
