  Is it possible for me to share my internet connection from a Vista OS Laptop to a Linux server desktop, and still connect to the server from the laptop? The server box does not have a wireless card and I am trying to avoid tripping people with my Ethernet. Also, the laptop connects via wireless.

  Hi, I've a Virtual Private Server with Windows 2003 and root access. This server mainly acts as a web hosting machine (IIS, Apache). Additionally it is used as a mail server. Is it possible to isolate a mailserver (for example HMailServer) by using VMware Server on Windows 2003 in order to avoid potential viruses moving from the guest into the host system? • Splitting a MySQL DB in two may ease server from "Too many connetions"? I don't think so

  I was requested to split a MySQL in two, it's kind of a horizontal partition, in which some rows correspond to one site, and some other correspond to another site. But they want to split it in two DBs in the same MySQL server. I'm no DB expert but I guess keeping them in the same MySQL server with the same amount of memory and processor and the same platform won't improve things. What we're trying to avoid is the "Too many connections" problem.

• Stop Outlook from acting on IMAP Alerts

  I have an IMAP server which sets an "account approaching quota" alert when an account is above 85%. For the majority of our users who are using Thunderbird, this works great as they receive the notice once to twice a day as a gentle reminder. Our few die-hard outlook users on the other hand get an annoying popup as often as their account gets polled. Does anyone know of a way to tell outlook to reuse IMAP connections to avoid this problem (or alternatively to disable Outlook reporting of alerts altogether)?

I know it is possible to perform such a migration using the SDKs from both services, but is there a free, standard, 1-step process for doing this?   I've got an Apache (2) server with several virtual hosts. I currently have mysql db locks problems on one virtual host. A common and practical way to easy release those locks and unlock the site (while the dev team refactor its application to avoid the locks), is to simply restart the apache server.   I'm using Firefox 8.0 and am enjoying the Group your tabs feature: But I'm not always good at keeping it organized. I'm trying to find a way to automatically put certain domains in certain groups. Probably through a plug-in? All the tab related plug-ins just help cluster your tabs together and don't actually work with the "Group your tabs" feature (which is why I posted the picture, to avoid ambiguity, since grouping tabs can refer to a lot of things).

• How can I make my other computer run a program?

  If I have two computers, both running Windows 7, on my home network, is there some way to write a script so that I can click on a single icon on the one computer and make the other computer execute a program? Clearly, I could do this by accessing the other computer through remote desktop connection and then executing the program, but I would like to avoid (or at least automate) making the connection so I can just click a single icon to have it happen.

  I have a small batch file which xcopies some files from one folder to another which I've scheduled (via windows scheduled tasks) to run every 1 hour: @echo off xcopy c:\foo c:\bar /E /C /F /Y Since this is my workstation, I'm most probably doing work when the task executes, and then the black dos console window is displayed (lasts 2-3 seconds) and steals window focus. I don't wish to see the files copied and of course the batch file does not ask for any user input. Is there a way to avoid displaying the console completely?

• Need to open port in a router for two internal PC's

  I have two PC's behind a comon internet router and one service running in another network that needs to connect with both PC's through internet using a specific port. To avoid dynamic IP issues I have configured NO-IP accounts in both computers and opened the port in their respective Windows Firewalls. My problem is that when I open the port in the router it only allows me to assign it to one of the computers, but not to both of them. Is there any solution to this?

I typically use shift + arrows to jump to the direction of the buffer I'm looking for, but with two frames, it won't jump. Is there a trick to this?   I have a simple .bat script to shutdown a kiosk style machine in our work shutdown -h -f this hibernates the machine and I have it running each evening as a scheduled job. However my problem comes when I turn the machine on again. The first time I press power it starts up and then immediately hibernates again, like it runs the script a second time. the second time I press power it stays up. How can I set it up so that when someone visits my site at example.com, they see the contents on home/index.html? I tried using an index.php with a redirect in document root, as well as a .htaccess redirect, but both of them change the URL in the browser to example.com/home/, which I would like to ideally avoid.

• Boot win7 from laptop after booting win 8 to go from usb

  Just successfully installed and ran windows 8 to go on an external usb hdd. After shutdown and removing the usb hard disk, tried to start my laptop which has a single windows 7 system, but failed to boot and even repair trials didn't succeed. It seems that win 8 affected the strucure of the laptop hard drive which results in corruption in its main win 7 partition. How to fix that and avoid future problems of the same type? thanks.

This causes the current folder to get filled with tons of files that are intermixed with the existing files. What is the best way to remove all these new files and/or move them to a new directory?
