• Single machine domain with Windows 7 OS

  Is it possible to setup one single machine with Windows 7 x64 OS and somehow make it work as if it's part of a certain domain? So domain controller would be simulated in some way? I would like to avoid VMs and make it actually work on one machine with non server OS. Is there even a simpler way of doing it? Why: I have to setup development environment for Sharepoint 2010 and it will make my life much easier if my machine would be part of a domain.

  Hi, I've a Virtual Private Server with Windows 2003 and root access. This server mainly acts as a web hosting machine (IIS, Apache). Additionally it is used as a mail server. Is it possible to isolate a mailserver (for example HMailServer) by using VMware Server on Windows 2003 in order to avoid potential viruses moving from the guest into the host system? Is there any whois cache that will detect, save, and share the old whois information for that domain, after it has changed? (It's a website to provide birth control in countries where it is banned, and she may receive death threats for the information shared on it. Obviously something she wishes to avoid.)

I know it is possible to perform such a migration using the SDKs from both services, but is there a free, standard, 1-step process for doing this? • Restart a single apache vhost

  I've got an Apache (2) server with several virtual hosts. I currently have mysql db locks problems on one virtual host. A common and practical way to easy release those locks and unlock the site (while the dev team refactor its application to avoid the locks), is to simply restart the apache server.   I'm using Firefox 8.0 and am enjoying the Group your tabs feature: But I'm not always good at keeping it organized. I'm trying to find a way to automatically put certain domains in certain groups. Probably through a plug-in? All the tab related plug-ins just help cluster your tabs together and don't actually work with the "Group your tabs" feature (which is why I posted the picture, to avoid ambiguity, since grouping tabs can refer to a lot of things).

  I have a small batch file which xcopies some files from one folder to another which I've scheduled (via windows scheduled tasks) to run every 1 hour: @echo off xcopy c:\foo c:\bar /E /C /F /Y Since this is my workstation, I'm most probably doing work when the task executes, and then the black dos console window is displayed (lasts 2-3 seconds) and steals window focus. I don't wish to see the files copied and of course the batch file does not ask for any user input. Is there a way to avoid displaying the console completely?

• How can I make my other computer run a program?

  If I have two computers, both running Windows 7, on my home network, is there some way to write a script so that I can click on a single icon on the one computer and make the other computer execute a program? Clearly, I could do this by accessing the other computer through remote desktop connection and then executing the program, but I would like to avoid (or at least automate) making the connection so I can just click a single icon to have it happen.

• Need to open port in a router for two internal PC's

  I have two PC's behind a comon internet router and one service running in another network that needs to connect with both PC's through internet using a specific port. To avoid dynamic IP issues I have configured NO-IP accounts in both computers and opened the port in their respective Windows Firewalls. My problem is that when I open the port in the router it only allows me to assign it to one of the computers, but not to both of them. Is there any solution to this?

• Quickly navigating Emacs buffers on a dual display setup

  If I have an Emacs frame on each of my displays, how can I easily navigate buffers between the two displays? I typically use shift + arrows to jump to the direction of the buffer I'm looking for, but with two frames, it won't jump. Is there a trick to this? Or do I need to give the other Emacs frame focus first (which is a step I would like to avoid).

  I have a simple .bat script to shutdown a kiosk style machine in our work shutdown -h -f this hibernates the machine and I have it running each evening as a scheduled job. However my problem comes when I turn the machine on again. The first time I press power it starts up and then immediately hibernates again, like it runs the script a second time. the second time I press power it stays up. Any suggestions on how I can avoid this?

  Just successfully installed and ran windows 8 to go on an external usb hdd. After shutdown and removing the usb hard disk, tried to start my laptop which has a single windows 7 system, but failed to boot and even repair trials didn't succeed. It seems that win 8 affected the strucure of the laptop hard drive which results in corruption in its main win 7 partition. How to fix that and avoid future problems of the same type? thanks.

How can I set it up so that when someone visits my site at example.com, they see the contents on home/index.html? I tried using an index.php with a redirect in document root, as well as a .htaccess redirect, but both of them change the URL in the browser to example.com/home/, which I would like to ideally avoid.

It is not working: The job is started on server, but I still get the output on myPc and bash wait for completion prior to asking me for another command. Why ? It's not supposed to ! • Accidental Extract Location - How to Clean Up?

  Sometimes I will do a command such as unzip tons_of_files.zip And I will forget to put a -d to point to a subdirectory. This causes the current folder to get filled with tons of files that are intermixed with the existing files. What is the best way to remove all these new files and/or move them to a new directory? I want to avoid having to manually examine the directory and determine if the file was part of the archive or was already present.
