• Maven: Finding out whether running in a 32 or a 64 bit JVM

  How can I enable or disable a maven profile based on whether the VM that is executing maven is a 32 bit or a 64 bit JVM? I tried this: <activation> <os> <arch>x86</arch> </os> </activation> or amd64 respectively to detect a 32/64 bit VM, but this fails on a 32 bit VM running on a 64 bit Windows as it activates the 64 bit profile.

• Running a Java process in Windows even after the user is logged out

  I have a batch file that starts a Java process in a Windows 2003 server. As per the security policy, the users of that machine are logged off forcefully, if the user is inactive for a certain period of time. The problem is that when the user is logged out, the process also dies. I scheduled a new task (Control Panel - Scheduled Tasks) and selected the option of 'When my computer starts' and gave the user account details there. But it doesn't seem to have any effect, the user is still logged out and the process dies. Is a reboot necessary to make this change effective? And after the reboot, will I achieve what I'm expecting (keeping the process alive)? Alternatively, will running this process as a Windows Service solve the problem? If so, can you please let me know how I can make a Java program or a batch file to run as a Windows Service? I would prefer not to use any other third party tools or libraries. Thanks

  Is there a project which helps setup a Hadoop cluster on office desktops, when they are idle? I'd like to experiment with Hadoop/MR/hbase but don't have acces to 5-10 computers. The computers at work are idle after hours and are connected to each other through a very high speed connection. What's more, data on these computers stays within our network so there is no privacy issue. In order for this to work I need a fairly light weight monitor running on each machine. When the computer has been idle for X hours, it will join the cluster. If the user logs on, it has to drop out of the cluster and return all CPU/memory back. Does something like this exist?

• Running sites on "localhost" is extremeley slow.

  Hello all, Having real trouble using my local host to test sites. It runs extremely slow! Sometimes up to a minute to load a page. I'm using firefox and the sites i'm testing run fine on other developers in my office local machines/ on the production server. I've gone through the normal things :- Disabled IPv6 Not running in debug mood Put the site in the highest app pool (High Isolated) on IIS 6. Taking of firewalls etc. The problem only seems to occur when hitting pages which contain some form of .net code in the code-behind. Appreciate that this a little bit of a vague topic / stab in the dark but would appreciate any sort of advice - it's horrible waiting a minute each refresh to try out a change! Cheers, Sean.

  Hi, so I want to do something like when you press on LogOut, you get a waiting message like "please wait.." while its running ucp.php?mode=logout in the background, and after it has loaded that it should refresh the site. How should this be done?? • Embedded MongoDB when running integration tests

  My question is a variation of this one. Since my Java Web-app project requires a lot of read filters/queries and interfaces with tools like GridFS, I'm struggling to think of a sensible way to simulate MongoDB in the way the above solution suggests. Therefore, I'm considering running an embedded instance of MongoDB alongside my integration tests. I'd like it to start up automatically (either for each test or the whole suite), flush the database for every test, and shut down at the end. These tests might be run on development machines as well as the CI server, so my solution will also need to be portable. Can anyone with more knowledge on MongoDB help me get idea of the feasibility of this approach, and/or perhaps suggest any reading material that might help me get started? I'm also open to other suggestions people might have on how I could approach this problem...

  I'll be taking a trip soon with my iPad, without my laptop. I'd like to continue to tinker with Ruby while I'm on the road. I have an iPhone developer program membership, and I'm not interested in submitting this stuff to the app store. I found the shinycocos project, which appears to embed a Ruby interpreter in an app. But I can't get it to run, and it seems pretty customized for running cocos2d stuff. My first goal is to run an interactive command line like Try Ruby!. After that, I'd like to enter small programs in a UITextView and run them. I'd appreciate any clues, tips, or existing projects you might know of.

  Hi, Company I work for are one of the largest betting companies in Europe and the website has thousands of lines of JavaScript on all our pages. Lately Internet Explorer versions earlier than version 9 are running painfully slow and I want to be able to monitor what parts of a page load (including scripts) that are slow. I know that IE are slower in general and has DOM API issues etc. What I want to accomplish is a way to quickly identify slow parts and see if we can replace the code with IE specific code that will render with higher performance. • issue running a batch script to kill a process

  I am using the following script on a command line to kill a hypothetical notepad process (using a Korn shell in Windows XP, if that matters): kill $(tasklist | grep -i notepad.exe | awk '{print 2}') Now I take this line, and put it into a batch file c:\temp\testkill.bat, thinking that I should just as well be able to kill the process by running the batch file. However, when I run the batch file, I get the following awk error about unbalanced parentheses: C:/Temp ./testkill.bat C:\Tempkill $(tasklist | grep -i notepad.exe | awk '{print $2}') awk: unbalanced () Context is: {print $2}) <<< C:/Temp So I'm baffled as to why I am getting this error about unbalanced parentheses when I run this script via a batch file, but have no issues when I run the command directly from the command line? (Btw, I'm not necessarily tied to this way of killing a process - as a total noob to shell scripting, I am additionally wondering why if I write the following on the command line: tasklist | grep -i notepad.exe | awk '{print $2}' | kill the process ID that comes out of the tasklist/grep/awk calls doesn't seem to properly get piped to kill...)

  Hey guys, I have a dilemma that I am uncertain about, as I not sure if it's is exactly possible for a Visual Studio Add-in to run its code automatically. I need an add-in that can run passively, like a logger for Visual Studios. However, the Exec method that I know so far can only execute commandbar functionality, but I need the code to execute when the user right-clicks, or select a line of text. I was able to make an automatic logger if i put my code in the "querystatus", but that would be considered bad programming, and it does not log when I simply select a piece of text. Does anyone know how to make a passive or automatic running code in Visual Studios?

• Running JBoss 4.2.3 and JBoss 5.1 on the same server

  I want to run JBoss 4.2.3 and JBoss 5.1 on the same server, but not simultaneously. I just need to be able to switch back and forth between the two for testing, so I don't need to change ports or anything like that. My problem is the JBOSS_HOME environment variable. When I set up a /soft/JBoss-4.2.3.GA directory and a /soft/JBoss-5.1.0.GA directory I can run the respective bin run.sh commands, however, both try to use the $JBOSS_HOME and $PATH environment variables which are set to the first installation (JBoss-4.2.3). So, how can I set separate environment variables? Or tell my new JBoss 5.1 installation to use another environment variable for JBOSS_HOME? How would I go about getting these two running together?   I have page loading, via AJAX a PHP page into a div. In turn, this loaded page has it's own javascript and AJAX loaded div. Reason is to allow user to select data alter data within loaded data. I'm trying to do this without the help of JSON or such to communicate between JS and PHP. I'm guessing the parent calling page has already loaded the javascript, and the AJAX loaded content can't access that? (I've tried running the JS into the AJAX loaded content as well) If so, is there anyway to access that?

  I've got an windows mobile 6.5 application I'm developing and am having trouble with one icon. At the top right hand of the screen there is an icon that, when clicked, will display a list of programs running the background with the option to close them. When my program is in this list, it's icon does not show up as the others do. I'm my exe I've got an .ico for 16x16, 22x22, 32x32, 36x36, 44x44, 45x45, 60x60, and 64x64, with the optional 90x90 png and registry setting in my cab. What am I missing?

  Hi all, the business logic in my application requires me to insert a row in table X when a row is inserted in table Y. Furthermore, it should only do it between specific times(which I have to query another table for). I have considered running a script every 5 minutes or so to check this, but I stumbled upon triggers and figured this might be a better way to do it. But I find the syntax for procedures a little bewildering and I keep getting an error I have no idea how to fix. • Running an app that requires an administrator account from a service

  Is it possible to run handle.exe (from sysinternals) from a service (in windows7) without having to turn off UAC? The service is a custom c-app that needs to find out which process is locking a file it tries to access and handle.exe seems to be a good way to solve it but i can't get it to work with UAC turned on. This app runs all the time so i can't have a UAC prompt while its running but its fine if it shows up at startup. Handle.exe works fine from an admin commandprompt but fails when trying to run from a normal prompt. I call handle.exe from CreateProcess() and get the output from pipes. I guess there should be a way to solve this but i can't figure it out. Setting up the service to log in from an admin account does not seem to work.

It used to work perfectly if the php script was executed from the command prompt or ffpmeg was directly invoked from the command prompt. I followed the below steps to fix the apache error: Step 1: Check if the file “libavdevice.so.52? exists in the server using the following command. find / -name ‘libavdevice.so.*’ Step 2: You will get the directory in which the file “libavdevice.so.52? exists from the above command. Suppose the directory is “/usr/local/lib/” in this example. Step 3: You have to add the directory name in the file “/etc/ld.so.conf”. Step 4: Execute the command “ldconfig”. How did doing the above make a difference to apache?

• Running sql scripts against an attached database?

  I've got an MDF attached to an instance of Sql Server 2008 Express, and I need to run some sql scripts against it to generate tables, indexes, etc. But I can't figure out how to get this to work. If I load the scripts in Visual Studio, it only allows me to connect to the server and run it against a database. I can't choose a different provider (Microsoft Sql Server Database File), so I can't select my MDF. This leaves me the only option of running the script as individual queries, but that won't work as it appears it doesn't support TSQL CREATE statements. How can I run my sql script against an attached database?

• Empty files generated from running `mysqldump` using PHP

  I keep getting empty files generated from running $command = 'mysqldump --opt -h localhost -u username -p \'password\' dbname > \'backup 2009-04-15 09-57-13.sql\''; command($command); Anyone know what might be causing this? My password has strange characters in it, but works fine with connecting to the db. I've ran exec($command, $return) and outputted the $return array and it is finding the command. I've also ran it with mysqldump > file.sql and the file contains Usage: mysqldump [OPTIONS] database [tables] OR mysqldump [OPTIONS] --databases [OPTIONS] DB1 [DB2 DB3...] OR mysqldump [OPTIONS] --all-databases [OPTIONS] For more options, use mysqldump --help So it would seem like the command is working.
