• How is 'processing credit card data' defined (PCI)?

  If i have a web application and i receive credit card data transmitted via a POST request by a web browser over HTTPS and instantly open a socket (SSL) to a remote PCI compilant card processor to forward the data and wait for a response, am i allowed to do that? or is this receiving the data with my application and forwarding it already subject of "processing credit card data"? if i create an iframe that is displayed in a client browser to enter cc data and this iframe posts the data via HTTPS to remote card processor (directly!) is this already a case of processing credit card data? even if my application code 'doesnt touch' the entered data with any event handlers? i'm interested in the definition "credit card data processing". when does it start to be a cc data processing application? can somebody maybe point me to that section in PCI-DSS standard that clearly defines when you start to 'be a processing application'? • Custom editor in QAbstractTableModel

  Does anyone have an example of using a QWidget as an editor in a QAbstractTableModel? I have a column which when edited should create a QCombobox with the list of choices. The docs seem to suggest I need to write a QAbstractItemDelegate and a custom paint function but that seems overkill to simply pop-up a standard QCombobox in Qt::EditRole. Note - the combo box contents are the same for every row and it only needs to be shown when somebody clicks in the cell. I know this should be simple but I can't get it to work. It's easy for a QTableWidget based table - but I need it for a very large data table.

• Any really modern, good-looking desktop apps that are developed with PyQt/PySide?

  Hi, I have started using Python for web development recently, it's kinda cool; I have seen programs that are developed in QT/C++, which is good enough in terms of esthetics; I have just noticed the new PySide project (which brings LGPL Qt license to Python and it doesn't support Windows yet). In view of the above, I see the possibility of using Python + PyQt/PySide to develop cross platform apps in the future :) but I have several doubts right now: Can PyQty/PySide be used to develop really complex/modern UI? Can somebody give me some points to have a look at some nice-looking screenshots of apps that are developed in Python+QT? What about the performance? Thanks in advance!

  Hi all, I'm using the PhysX SDK and I'm trying to load an .obj file with the WavefrontObj object which is defined by the files "wavefront.h/.cpp", localized in the samples directory. • [Python] How can I speed up unpickling large objects if I have plenty of RAM?

  It's taking me up to an hour to read a 1-gigabyte NetworkX graph data structure using cPickle (its 1-GB when stored on disk as a binary pickle file). Note that the file quickly loads into memory. In other words, if I run: import cPickle as pickle f = open("bigNetworkXGraph.pickle","rb") binary_data = f.read() # This part doesn't take long graph = pickle.loads(binary_data) # This takes ages How can I speed this last operation up? Note that I have tried pickling the data both in using both binary protocols (1 and 2), and it doesn't seem to make much difference which protocol I use. Also note that although I am using the "loads" (meaning "load string") function above, it is loading binary data, not ascii-data. I have 128gb of RAM on the system I'm using, so I'm hoping that somebody will tell me how to increase some read buffer buried in the pickle implementation.

• Is google gson running on android?

  I'm playing arround with google gson for communication with my web back end at the moment. This and this older posts indicate that there are some problems with gson on android. I did some easy tests on the device already but maybe I just missed the bug. Edit I'm now parsing a lot more data. Generic lists etc. still not encountered the bug. Has anybody used gson on Android already? How does it work? Has somebody encountered bugs or something that will stop me from using it once it gets more complicated?

• C# WinForms: How to load an image, then wait a few seconds, then play a mp3 sound ?

  Hello everybody, (after pressing a button) i would like to show an image (using a picturebox), wait a few seconds and then play a mp3 sound, but i dont get it to work. To wait a few seconds i use "System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000)". The problem is, the image alway appears AFTER the wait time, but i want it to show first, then wait, then play the mp3... i tried to use "WaitOnLoad = true" but it doesnt work, shouldn't it load the image first and the continue to read the next code line ?? Here is the code i've tried, that doesnt work: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { pictureBox1.WaitOnLoad = true; pictureBox1.Load("image.jpg"); System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000); MessageBox.Show("test"); //just to test, here should be the code to play the mp3 } (i also tried loading the image with "LoadAsync" and put the code to wait and play the mp3 in the "LoadCompleted" event, but that doesnt work either...) would be very nice if somebody helps me

  Hi all, I am attempting to learn about creating windows in c++, I have looked at an article about creating a wrapper class but I don't really understand it. So far I know that you can't have a class method WndProc (I dont know why) but honestly, that is all. Can somebody give an explanation, also explaining the reinterpret_cast? Here is the article.   Hello fellow programmers. Im a pretty experienced programmer in PHP and mainly web languages but today i have decided i want to start to learn a new language! Im only 21 and I feel as I will never make it in the programming industry without a great set of languages under my belt, So i decided to have a look at C#. The reason I have chosen C# is because some C programmers have told me that C# is the best language to learn for desktop applications. • What does xp_qv do in SQL Server?

  Last night one of our SQL servers developed some major problems and after a colleague stopped, started, and all the usual things it started checking and rebuilding databases and is now running an extended stored procedure called "xp_qv". The internet seems to be very short of information on what this procedure does or anythign like that so I was hoping somebody here might be able to help. I should add that I assume it is meant to be running so the question isn't "Can I stop it" or anything like that, its just curiosity in what it is doing in the hope that it will help determine how long before things are usable again...

For Example: User input 2:00pm Eastern Time on my server I have different time zone, how to calculate the time and send the email at users time-zone. Its a web application. • Centralizing a floating element :(

  Hi guys :| My "div" element have a relative width, it isn't absolute so I can't use exact numbers to centralize. A nice solution is to use "display: inline-block": body { text-align: center; } #myDiv { border: 1px solid black; display: inline-block; padding: 50px; } But this element NEEDS to float, I tried this: #myDiv { border: 1px solid black; display: inline-block; float: left; padding: 50px; } And this: #myDiv { border: 1px solid black; display: inline-block; padding: 50px; position: absolute; } Without any success, can somebody help me ?   I'm developing report in RS that show top N customers based on some criteria. It also allows to select number of customers and period of time. Is it possible to do it by using report model? Thing that it seems to be difficult is how to pass parameters determined by user. Another thing that in my oppinion is very disappointing is that i cannot use SQL query as dataset query, because it uses odd and elaborate XML. Although report model items seem to map its fields to query or table fields. I m concerning using report models because i need to provide uniform data model (the same tables and fields) for more or less different database schemas. It would be very nice if somebody would explain what can be done with report models and what can not.

  I answered this question, and Potatoswatter answered too as The modern C++ equivalent would be a sentry object: construct it at the beginning of a function, with its constructor implementing call(), and upon return (or abnormal exit), its destructor implements I am not familiar with using sentry objects in C++. I thought they were limited to input and output streams. Could somebody explain to me about C++ sentry objects as well as how to use them as an around interceptor for one or more methods in a class ? i.e. How to do this ? Sentry objects are very similar indeed. On the one hand they require explicit instantiation (and being passed this) but on the other hand you can add to them so that they check not only the invariants of the class but some pre/post conditions for the function at hand.

• How is Java Platform independent when it needs JVM to run ?

  Just started learning Java and I am confused about this whole independent platform thingy. Doesn't independent means that Java code should be able to run on any machine and would need no special software to be installed (JVM in this case has to be present in the machine)? Like, for example, we need to have Turbo C Compiler in order to compile C/C++ source code and then execute it.. The machine has to have the C compiler. guess I am confused..Somebody please explain in simple language or may be direct me to a tutorial that explain things in simple language ? that would be great I am just not getting the concept.

  arr = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init]; [arr addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:4]]; [arr addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:45]]; [arr addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:23]]; [arr addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:12]]; NSLog(@"The avg = %@", [arr valueForKeyPath:@"@avg.intValue"]); This code works fine, but why? valueForKeyPath:@"@avg.intValue" is requesting (int) from each NSNumber, but we are outputting a %@ string in the log. If i try to output a decimal %d i get a number that possibly is a pointer to something. Can somebody explain why the integers become NSNumbers when i call the @avg operator?

  Guys; Hope you are fine. I have to make a Web Project (very simple) I will have a DB with 2 tables. One table has 2 fields. From the WebPage I need a Google like search query, for example I have Movie Title and Movie Review on the Table. I need to be able to search those 2 fields like this: "Best Movie" + Action I will need to make a query to the DB to search for the "Best Movie" string togheter plus optional ACTION word on 2 fields of the table. Am I clear??? :) Does somebody know if this has already been made, and if it´s public and free and where to get it :) Thanks in advanced EDIT: My concern is to translate the Google like Symbols ("", +, -, ~) to build a valid query.

  From the documentation: os.path.realpath(path) Return the canonical path of the specified filename, eliminating any symbolic links encountered in the path (if they are supported by the operating system). When I invoke this with an extant file's name, I get the path to it: /home/myhome/myproject. When I invoke this with a 'nonsense.xxx' string argument, I still get a path to /home/myhome/myproject/nonsense.xxx. This is a little inconsistent because it looks like nonsense.xxx is taken to be a directory not a file (though it is neither: it does not exist). When I invoke this with a null string file name, I still get a path to /home/myhome/myproject. How can I account for this behaviour when the documentation says so little about realpath()? (I am using Python 2.5.) Edit: Somebody suggested a way to test if files exist. My concern is not to test if files exist. My concern is to account for behaviour.

• Events raised by BackgroundWorker not executed on expected thread

  A winforms dialog is using BackgroundWorker to perform some asynchronous operations with significant success. On occasion, the async process being run by the background worker will need to raise events to the winforms app for user response (a message that asks the user if they wish to cancel), the response of which captured in an CancelEventArgs type of the event. Being an implementation of threading, I would have expected the RaiseEvent of the worker to fire, and then the worker would continue, hence requiring me to pause the worker until the response is received. Instead however, the worker is held to wait for the code executed by the raise event to complete. It seems like method I am calling via the event call is actually on the worker thread used by the background worker, and I am surprised, since I expected to see it on the Main Thread which is where the mainform is running. Also surprisingly, there are no cross thread exceptions thrown. Can somebody please explain why this is not as I expect?

  I need a help on getting Special folder in windows service program. I used this code in my Windows Form application: Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.ApplicationData); and got the path, ""C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming"* But if I run the same code in my Winows Service project I got the path: "C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\" But I need the earlier path (got in Windows Form). How do I get the same path in Service projet also. I have user setting file, log, config file in the "C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming" folder. So I have to refer the same path both in my Windows Form application and Windows Service project. Can somebody tell me, what is the difference here and how do i get the same path in both type of project? Thanks, sharath

• Missing 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' time information in Firebug's Net Panel.

  Hello, Firebug is awesome in reporting the relative time when an HTTP request was made with respect to the 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' time. However, once the 'load' event occurs (seen by the red line on the timeline), the requests thereafter do not have any information about how later they occurred with respect to the two events. To confuse things, these requests (usually at the bottom of the timeline) appear to have started right at the beginning of the page load. Could somebody shed some light on what should i infer when i see such entries in the timeline which do not have information about the 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' event times and appear to have occurred after the page load event, still net panel shows that they started at the beginning? • Preventing EF4 ConstraintException when invoking TryUpdateModel

  Given following ASP.NET MVC controller code: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Create(FormCollection collection) { string[] whitelist = new []{ "CompanyName", "Address1", "Address2", ... }; Partner newPartner = new Partner(); if (TryUpdateModel(newPartner, whitelist, collection)) { var db = new mainEntities(); db.Partners.AddObject(newPartner); db.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Details/" + newPartner.ID); } else { return View(); } } The problem is with the Entity Framework 4: the example Partner entity is mapped to a database table with it's fields NOT ALLOWED to be NULL (which is ok by design - they're required). Unfortunately, invoking TryUpdateModel when some of the properties are nulls produces ConstraintException which is not expected! I do expect that TryUpdateModel return false in this case. It is ok that EF wouldn't allow set a property value to null if it should not be, but the TryUpdateMethod should handle that, and add the error to ModelState errors collection. I am wrong, or somebody screwed the implementation of TryUpdateModel method?
