• Creating a loading screen in HTML5

  I am having some issues finding a decent tutorial for generating a loading style screen with regards to HTML5. To be quite honest I'm not sure exactly where to begin... My project is essentially a simple HTML5 game, where I'll be loading in various sprite sheets and tilesets. They'll be reasonably small, but I'd like to show a little loading spinner instead of a blank screen while all the resources are loaded. Much appreciated if somebody could point me in the right direction, be it decent links or code samples to get me going...my Google-fu is lacking today! For clarification, I need to figure out how to load the resources themselves, as opposed to finding a spinner. For instance, how to calculate that X% has loaded.

• Strange problem when converting RGB to HSV

  Hi, I made a small RGB to HSV converter algorithm with C. It seems to work pretty well, but there is one strange problem: If I first convert i.e. a 800x600 picture into HSV map and then back to RGB map without doing any changes in the values, I get some pixels that are convertet incorrectly. Then if I try to convert those misbehaving single pixels alone to and back, they're converted correctly. Any idea what could be the problem? I'm using Daniel Karlings PNGLite to open that PNG file. • Displaying and capturing c# exceptions

  I have a c# program which throws a NullReferenceException(). When I start this on my Vista machine, it gives the familiar screen "Foo has stopped working". I can easily click on 'details' to see what went wrong. On one XP machine there's no warning at all: the program just quits, and on another XP I get the "Foo has encountered a problem..." message. Is there a way I can change this (XP's) setting? Furthermore, I would like to have this error message written to a log file, so I can see what went wrong if somebody else uses my program. Is there a way I can send the uncaught exceptions to a file?

• No Cookies at second Webrequest

  Hello, I write a little Tool in C# with Visual Studio 2008. My Problem: I login to a website by HTTP-webrequest, I get an authentification cookie, thats all ok. Than I make a new HTTP-webrequest and add the cookies from the first request to call the next page where i can see my personal data. I see that the cookies will associated with the second request if I debug it but if I check the network traffic I see that are no Cookies transmitted at the second request. I tried many possibilities to see why i dont work but i found nothing. Does somebody have the same problem or know a solution? (Sorry for bad english)

  I am using OpenJPA 2.2.0 and when I am executing a select statement I am getting "Column index out of range, 0 < 1" error. • dismissViewControllerAnimated completion block presenter view and modal view flow

  I did find an answer to this title and I did do a little research but I'm still not getting the flow. Here is what I want to happen: 1) click a button on the presenter view to open a modal view. 2) retrieve some value and click a button to close the modal view....sending the value to the presentor view and execute a method. I get that this works like a callback but I still can't figure out where to put the callback stuff. So, how exactly do I do this? A) In the presentViewController completion block, should I include the presenter view method to execute when modal view is completed? Or: B) In the modal view's dismissViewControllerAnimated completion block, should I include the presenter view method to execute when modal view is completed? Can somebody help me with some sample code? Or at least help me get the flow of which block to put the code in? Thank you, P

• Fatsest way to edit alpha of CGImage (or UIImage) with touch and then display?

  I have two image views, one on top of the another, with two different images. As the user touches the image and moves his/her finger, the top image should become transparent along the touch points with a fixed radius. (Like the PhotoChop app). Currently I am doing it this way... For each touch. Get a copy of the image buffer from CGImage of the top image. Edit the alpha channel of the buffer to create a transparent circle centered at the touch point. Create new CGImage from the buffer. Create UIImage from the CGImage and use the new UIImage as the top image view's image. This works but as you can see too many copy, creates are involved and it is slow. Can somebody please suggest me a faster way of doing the same thing?

• How to protect HtmlHelper code in MVC controls

  I am writing a custom mvc control (commercial), and all of the control's code lives in the custom htmlhelper code that i will have to distribute to the user. I am ok with this for my commercial license sale, but for evaluating the controls, if i give out the htmlhelper code locally for my potential customers to evaluate, the user can simply "get" all the code and hence he may never buy it since he's got teh control code. How do i protect my htmlhelper code while somebody is evaluation my cusotm mvc controls? Is this a general problem or (I wish) i am missing something here? Thanks.

  Hi There, Hopefully I can find some words of advice from somebody. Is it possible to create forms 'on-the fly' so to speak in MS-Access 2007 I have a structure of tables: tblCustomer tblQuestAns A customer may answer the questionnaire answers many times as they relate to all products. I propose to hopefully have an initial input form that will ask how many products of which there could be more than 1 eg: TV, Video (say the user selects 2) On entering that data the next form should hopefully update itself to include the list of questions eg TV Q1, Q2 Q3 - Video (1) Q1, Q2 Q3 - Video (2) Q1, Q2 Q3 Is that possible? Like an interface, you cannot implement an instance of an abstract class, however you can implement methods, fields, and properties in the abstract class that can be used by the child class. But on MSDN URL: TextWriter CLass on MSDN TextWriter is an abstract class but it has two constructors defined ... and according to the MS 70-536 book, the following statement is valid: TextWriter tw = new File.CreateText("myFile.Txt") The static file class and it's CreateText method is fine by me as I have studied it on MSDN but can somebody explain this little contradiction I have found? Surely I am not the first? Why is instantaion of base abstract classes possible????

• JTable - Getting a cell into Edit mode on pressing Tab

  This is possibly has a trivial solution, but I am at the end of my tether so I hope somebody can help out. I use a JTable which has a custom renderer and a custom editor for a set of columns. The renderer uses a JLabel component and the editor uses a JSpinner component. Our users want to be able to enter values in a column, and then press TAB or ENTER to move to the next editable cell in the table. If I understand correctly, this is the default behaviour for a JTable. However, this doesn't seem to work correctly for me. Until the user clicks on the cell, only the JLabel is displayed. The JSpinner (i.e. CellEditor) is only displayed when a user double clicks on the cell. So, it looks like the cell is going into "edit" mode only on MouseEvents, but not when it has focus. How do I get the cell to go into edit mode as soon as it has focus?

• Adobe Acrobat API - How to skip opening password protected PDFs?

  Hi all, I've been using Delphi and the Adobe Acrobat 9 API. I'm simply opening a PDF and printing it, followed by closing it without saving anything. I'm having an issue while opening some PDFs though. If the PDF is password protected the Open method displays Adobe's "Input password" prompt. My application is running in an automated fashion, and therefor cannot proceed beyond this password prompt until somebody clicks cancel. I've been looking for something that will either notify me that the file is password protected prior to opening it, or a parameter or something that will skip password protected files. I need my program to assume it cannot open any passworded PDF. Does anyone know enough about the Acrobat API to provide any assistance here? Thank you, Ryan

  Hi in a java application i need to run an external console application. With the window's ones everything is OK: try { System.out.println("Running..."); Runtime.getRuntime().exec("notepad.exe"); System.out.println("End."); } catch(Exception e) { System.out.println(e.getMessage()); } launches notepad successfully. But if I put "D:\MyProg.exe" or ".bat" or even "cmd.exe" (which is it PATH as notepad is) it does not work. Without any exeptions. Just: Running... End. Can somebody help? Thanx.

• Program occasionally stuck when writing to ldap

  hey guys, I have 2 databases for my program : mysql and ldap. All transactions happen to mysql, but i need ldap to connect to ip-phones. There's an option to synchronise the ldap database. So when the ldap is brand new, and mysql contains like 200+ records, it may want to update. But when inserting all those entries, it "freezes". It never happens at the same record, it's very random. Sometimes after 70 records, sometimes at 200 the program quits inserting, and gets stuck. This is very annoying. My best guess is that ldap can't handle that much inserts in a short time. Code isn't the problem, as it is a random problem. Does this seem familiar to somebody or is it just me? Thanks in advance.

  Hi! all, I am writing an application which is a kinda video streamer.The client is receiving a video stream using udp socket.Now as I am receiving the stream I want to play it simultaneous.It is different from playing local video file lying in your hard disk in which case it can be as simple as running the file using system("vlc filename").But here many issues are involved like there can be delay in receiving and player will have to wait for the incoming data.I have come to know about using vlc to run a video stream.Can you please elaborate the step for playing the stream using vlc.I am implementing my application in c++. But to me, a raw pointer (to an object or to a function) in C++ does seem to me to satisfy the conditions stated above to qualify as a first class object. Am I missing something?

  I am creating a client-server application and I'd like to send data from server to client securely. Using public/private key algorithms makes sense and in PHP we can use openssl_sign and openssl_verify functions to check that the data came by someone who has the private key. Now imagine that one of the actions sent by server to client is destructive in nature. If somebody uses an HTTP sniffer to catch this command (which will be signed properly) how can I further protect the communication to ensure that only commands coming from our server get processed by the client? I was thinking about using current UTC time as part of the encrypted data but client time might be off. Is there a simple solution to the problem?

From the contest analysis I came to know the problem requires bit twiddling stuff like extracting the rightmost N bits of an integer and checking if they all are 1. I saw a contestant's(Eireksten) code which performed the said operation like below: (((K&(1<<N)-1))==(1<<N)-1) I couldn't understand how this works. What is the use of -1 there in the comparison?. If somebody can explain this, it would be very much useful for us rookies. Also, Any tips on identifying this sort of problems would be much appreciated. I used a naive algorithm to solve this problem and ended up solving only the smaller data set.(It took heck of a time to compile the larger data set which is required to be submitted within 8 minutes.).   Hello, I have a problem with a html select object and its options in IE. My html <select id="Select1" onchange="closeMenu1(this.value)"> <option></option> <option>1</option> <option>2</option> And the javascript function closeMenu1 (x) { var show = document.getElementById("divID"); show.innerHTML = x; } Now, in every browser except the IEs the divID will show up the value which I selected in the select object. But IE doesn’t. Can somebody please tell me a way around that? Thanks.
