  • Best way to manipulate and compare strings

    I'm developing a REST service, so a request could be something like this: /Data/Main/Table=Customers/ I need to get the segments one by one, and for each segment I will decide wich object I'm going to use, after I'll pass to that object the rest of the query so it can decide what to do next. Basically, the REST query is a path on a tree :P This imply lots String operations (depending on the query complexity), but StringBuilder is useful just for concatenations and remove, you cannot perform a search with IndexOf or similar. I've developed this class that fulfill my requirement, but the problem is that is manipulating Strings, so every time I get one segment ... I'll create extra Strings because String is an inmutable data type: public class RESTQueryParser { String _query; public RESTQueryParser(String query) { _query = query; } public String GetNext() { String result = String.Empty; Int32 startPosition = _query.StartsWith("/", StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) ? 1 : 0; Int32 i = _query.IndexOf("/", startPosition, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) - 1; if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(_query)) { if (i < 0) { result = _query.Substring(startPosition, _query.Length - 1); _query = String.Empty; } else { result = _query.Substring(startPosition, i); _query = _query.Remove(0, i + 1); } } return result; } } The server should support a lot of calls, and the queries could be huge, so this is gonna be a very repetitive task. I don't really know how big is the impact on the memory and the performance, I've just readed about it in some books. Should I implement a class that manage a Char[] instead Strings and implement the methods that I want? Or should be ok with this one? Regular expressions maybe?

    I can't seem to get this to connect to the database so that I can run my prepared statement. WHat the heck is going on?

  • How to read in text from the visual studio debug output window

    I've read several articles that tell you how to add text to the output window in visual studio from within an Add-On (specifically, a visual studio 2008 integration package, via the visual studio 2008 SDK 1.1), but no examples of how to read text from the output window. My goal is to parse text from the debug output window while debugging a certain application (TRACE output and possibly stdin/stdout). The IVsOutputWindowPane interface has no methods for reading in text from the output window. The documentation seems to imply that it is possible, but it doesn't provide an example: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb166236(VS.80).aspx Quote: In addition, the OutputWindow and OutputWindowPane objects add some higher-level functionality to make it easier to enumerate the Output window panes and to retrieve text from the panes.   • How do I compare the md5sum of a file with the md5 file (that was available to download with the file)?

    Images are available for a distro on http://livedistro.org/gnulinux/israel-remix-team-mint-12. I want to use the 32-bit version. I have downloaded the ISO file for the 32-bit version (customdist.iso). I have downloaded the md5 file for the ISO file (customdist.iso.md5). I want to calculate the md5sum of the ISO file and compare it to the md5 file. I can use the md5sum command to display within the terminal the calculated md5 for the ISO file. I have searched the web and can't find a way to compare the calculated md5 for the ISO file with the downloaded md5 file. So far, the closest I have come is the command md5sum -c customdist.iso.md5 from within the folder containing both the files, but this command gives the result: md5sum: customdist.iso.md5: no properly formatted MD5 checksum lines found Any ideas?

But if i open the text file in wordpad or ms-word, the data is correctly displayed. What could be the error?

  • What are some alternatives to word processing with Markdown?

    I've used MS Word-style editors for a long time, but I never got used to how unintuitive and cumbersome they are. I'm not talking specifically about MS Word, but also other editors that seem to mimic Word, like OpenOffice, NeoOffice, etc. I've found myself preferring to write in Markdown (much like on this site). I've found a few good Markdown editors, and I like using them a lot more than using Word-style editors. Here is what they generally look like: As you can see, it works much differently than a Word-style editor. This is a generally cleaner way of writing, since formatting is done right in the text, and is extremely simple to use (no highlighting some text, then clicking a button in some menu you have to find). Although editing text this way is great, I've realized that the syntax can only be used for very specific needs (bullets, numbered lists, headings and sub-headings, bold, italic, and some other common ones). However, many features are missing. Here are some features that would be nice in a word processor: Tables. Indenting paragraphs. Good image support (you can link to images, but not add them, since Markdown is just text). More simple to use than Word and its cronies. Cross-platform. Some of these can be fixed with in-line HTML, but nobody wants to do that. It seems Markdown was designed for editing text on the internet. Is there a similar setup that works better for desktop word processors?

    SQL Server 2000. Single table has a list of users that includes a unique user ID and a non-unique user name. I want to search the table and list out any users that share the same non-unique user name. For example, my table looks like this: ID User Name Name == ========= ==== 0 parker Peter Parker 1 parker Mary Jane Parker 2 heroman Joseph (Joey) Carter Jones 3 thehulk Bruce Banner What I want to do is do a SELECT and have the result set be: ID User Name Name == ========= ==== 0 parker Peter Parker 1 parker Mary Jane Parker from my table. I'm not a T-SQL guru. I can do the basic joins and such, but I'm thinking there must be an elegant way of doing this. Barring elegance, there must be ANY way of doing this.     I have a document with dynamic image and dynamic text and would like the text around the image. The image is right aligned on the landscape page. I tried doing this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2085151/ruby-prawn-how-to-wrap-text-around-an-aligned-right-image but it didn't work. Help is appreciated, thanks.

    Trying to localize text in ASP.NET labels... want to add a ':' after the localized text. I could just add the ':' to the localized text in the resource file, but that seems silly... there should be an easy way to do this. <asp:Label id="RoleTypeLabel" runat="server" Text='<%$ Resources: GS3, RoleTypeLabel %>:' AssociatedControlID="RoleTypeDropDown"></asp:Label> (note the ':' at the end of Text='...') Of course, this doesn't work... and neither does anything I can think of to concatenate a ':' onto the end of the localized text. Anyone know how to do it? TIA, James

  • How to compare sqlite TIMESTAMP values

    I have an Sqlite database in which I want to select rows of which the value in a TIMESTAMP column is before a certain date. I would think this to be simple but I can't get it done. I have tried this: SELECT * FROM logged_event WHERE logged_event.CREATED_AT < '2010-05-28 16:20:55' and various variations on it, like with the date functions. I've read http://sqlite.org/lang_datefunc.html and http://www.sqlite.org/datatypes.html and I would expect that the column would be a numeric type, and that the comparison would be done on the unix timestamp value. Apparantly not. Anyone who can help? If it matters, I'm trying this out in Sqlite Expert Personal.

  • Using sed for introducing newline after each > in a +1 gigabyte large one-line text file

    I have a giant text file (about 1,5 gigabyte) with xml data in it. All text in the file is on a single line, and attempting to open it in any text editor (even the ones mentioned in this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/159521/text-editor-to-open-big-giant-huge-large-text-files ) either fails horribly or is totally unusable due to the text editor hanging when attempting to scroll. I was hoping to introduce newlines into the file by using the following sed command sed 's/>/>\n/g' data.xml > data_with_newlines.xml Sadly, this caused sed to give me a segmentation fault. From what I understand, sed reads the file line-by-line which would in this case mean that it attempts to read the entire 1,5 gig file in one line which would most certainly explain the segfault. However, the problem remains. How do I introduce newlines after each in the xml file? Do I have to resort to writing a small program to do this for me by reading the file character-by-character?

Does someone know about an algorithm that will tell me in numbers/float/procent how much two names are identical. Levenstein distance is not good in this approach, as names and our adddress books are matching the begining of each of the name sections. After calculation I send it to SQL using bulkinsert function. I want to extract data which is different according to first file I got from device.   • WinForm Text Control that displays current character/character limit

    I need a way to display, like you see in some web apps, the current characters/character limit for a Text Control(i.e. 3/500). I usually see this as a label residing directly above or below the Text Control. How is this 'normally' accomplished? Should I override my Text Control somehow? Do I just manually add labels by every Text Control and 'bind' them to properties of the Text Control? Do I need to create a composite control that has the Text Control & Label Controls together to accomplish what I need? Any direction or help will be greatly appreciated.

    I have a tabBar with 4 tabs on it, and I want to perform some action when a specific tab is selected, so I have uncommented the UITabBarControllerDelegate in the xxAppDelegate.m I also wanted to see the value that was being sent logged in the console - in order to test my "if" statement. However this is where I got stumped. // Optional UITabBarControllerDelegate method - (void)tabBarController:(UITabBarController *)tabBarController didSelectViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController { NSLog(@"%@", viewController); } The console dutifully logged any selected controller that had been selected, but in this particular format: <MyViewController: 0x3b12950> Now, I wasn't expecting the square brackets or the colon or the Hex. So my question is how do I format my IF statement? This is what I thought would work but I get an error mentioned further down. // Optional UITabBarControllerDelegate method - (void)tabBarController:(UITabBarController *)tabBarController didSelectViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController { NSLog(@"%@", viewController); if (viewController == MyViewController) { //do something nice here … }; } ...   • compare previous ENCRYPT() call with new ENCRYPT() call mysql

    I'm storing a string in mysql with the ENCRYPT() function. I want to fetch a row where that string is matched, but the new ENCRYPT() call gives me a different value, so they never match. This is expected as i'm not (and can't) give it a consistent salt: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/encryption-functions.html#function_encrypt If no salt argument is given, a random value is used. This is the query i'm running that returns empty: SELECT * FROM `table` WHERE ENCRYPT('string') = `enc_string` I know this is possible because this is used by a 3rd party app, but I can't find their query where they do this. Is there a way to force ENCRYPT to use the previous salt, or predict it?
