  I have a geography field stored in my database, holding a linestring path. I want to move a point n meters along this linestring, and return the destination. For example, I want the destination point 500 meters along the linestring starting from its beginning. Here's an example -- what is the YourFunctionHere? Or, is there another way? • ignore certain buffers using iswitchb

  Hello, GNU Emacs 23.1 I am using iswitchb. However, when I press c-x b I get a list of buffers. However, I don't want to display one like scratch, Messages, GNU Emacs, etc. Just the buffers I have opened myself. So I am looking for a way to ignore these buffers. This is what I have in my configuration. However, it doesn't ignore the buffers I don't want. • locale based sorting function in ruby

  For my application(Ruby on Rails) i have country select box for the signup page. These countries are localized into different language. But i couldnt find a way to sort them, based on the language in which its localized. At present i have sorted it out based on english only. Is there a way to sort the country names based on the locale? i.e the order of the countries should change(ascending order) according to the language its localised. Thanks..

• Updating Silverlight with data. JSON or WCF?

  We will be using custom Silverlight 4.0 controls on our ASP.NET MVC web page to display data from our database and was wondering what the most efficient method was? We will be having returned values of up to 100k records (of 2 properties per record). We have a test that uses the HTML Bridge from Javascript to Silverlight. First we perform a post request to a controller action in the MVC web app and return JSON. This JSON is then passed to the Silverlight where it is parsed and the UI updated. This seems to be rather slow, with the stored procedure (the select) taking about 3 seconds and the entire update in the browser about 10-15sec. Having a brief look on the net, it seems that WCF is another option, but not having used it, I wasn't sure of it's capability or suitability. Does anyone have any experiences or recommendations?

• Loading contents of TableView Controller after showing Tab

  Hello, I have a 4 tabbar application. The second tab has a tableviewController. When i select the second tab the tableview is displayed with it's contents and it works fine. The problem is that that data is comming from the network and it talks 2-3 seconds to load. So when i press the second tab it goes there after the contents have been loaded. How can i show an empty tableview (i'll put an activity indicator) and then load and show the contents? Teo

• Device Emulator Mananger and ActiveSync

  I use Device Emulator Manager to fire up my Windows Mobile 5 Emulator. I then right click on the device (in the Device Emulator Manager list) and select cradle. ActiveSync then ties to connect. After a few seconds I get this message: Then if I open up the connection options and press connect: Then it works just fine. So, my question is, how can I get it to connect every time. Right as I cradle. I do this enough times that it is annoying to have the extra step. Has anyone ever been able to figure this out? (Does anyone have this problem too?) FYI My co-workers have the same issue Connecting a real device does not have this issue (It is just when I use an emulator)

• Safe to KILL a mysql process REPLACEing records in a large myisam table?

  I have a REPLACE query running for a few days now on a few MyISAM tables, the largest having 20+million records. I need it to stop. It is, basically: REPLACE INTO really_large_table (a,b,c,d) SELECT e,f,g,h FROM big_table INNER JOIN huge_table ON big_table.x LIKE CONCAT('%', huge_table.y, '%'); I need to KILL it, and I am worried that I may corrupt really_large_table. Because the sub-query itself takes a significant amount of time, the REPLACEing probably occurs (relatively) infrequently; if this is true, does this make it less likely for the data to become corrupted? • Can I do transactions and locks in CouchDB?

  I need to do transactions (begin, commit or rollback), locks (select for update). How can I do it in a document model db? Edit: The case is this: I want to run an auctions site. And I think how to direct purchase as well. In a direct purchase I have to decrement the quantity field in the item record, but only if the quantity is greater than zero. That is why I need locks and transactions. I don't know how to address that without locks and/or transactions. Can I solve this with CouchDB?

  I am trying to create a simple app that displays a list of items with check boxes next to each item, then give the user to simply check each box. Nothing (aside from the checkbox image switching) needs to happen when the check box is touched. Each checklist is a seperate NSDictionary contained in a single master NSDictionary. The checklist dictionary contains arrays for different sections of each checklist. At the top of the view, the user selects which set (dictionary) of checklists they want to open then I want that checklist to display underneath the picker once a "select checklist" button is pressed. Any ideas on the best way to get this done?

  I have a facebook application that is published at facebook platform and i used facebook API to invite friends and i have succeeded in creating invitation form but the problem is that when u invite friend and send invitation and the invitation request sent to the user and the user accept it this friend appears again in the friend list that can be invited again For example : i have friend in my friend list named X and when i send invitation to him the invitation is sent and and X accept the invitation and when i try to send invitation again the friend X appears again in the list that i can select from to send invitation this means that may i send an invitation to this user (X) and he is already playing the game i need to know how to fix this problem so friends appear in the friend list (for invitation )only friends that not use the application. • count(*) is it really expensive ?

  I have a page where i have 4 tabs displaying 4 different reports based of different tables. Now i get row count of each tabled using select count() from table query and display number of rows available in each table on the tabs. Now with each page post back 5 count() queries are executed (4 to get counts and 1 for pagination) and 1 query for getting report. Now my question is should is count(*) query really expensive that i should keep the row counts (at least which are displayed on tab) in view state of page instead of queering each time? How much expensive it is ?

• SQL Server Query Slow from PHP, but FAST from SQL Mgt Studio - WHY???

  I have a fast running query (sub 1 sec) when I execute the query in SQL Server Mgt Studio, but when I run the exact same query in PHP (on the same db instace) using FreeTDS v8, mssql_query(), it takes much longer (70+ seconds). The tables I'm hitting have an index on a date field that I'm using in the Where clause. Could it be that PHP's mssql functions aren't utilizing the index? I have also tried putting the query inside a stored procedure, then executing the SP from PHP - the same results in time difference occurs. I have also tried adding a WITH ( INDEX( .. ) ) clause on the table where that has the date index, but no luck either.   I am working on a project that uses Albahari's PredicateBuilder library http://www.albahari.com/nutshell/ to create a linq expression dynamically at run time. I would like to find a way to translate this dynamically created linq predicate of type Expression<Func<T, bool>> into a readable english statement at runtime. I'll give a statically created linq statement as an example: from p in Purchases select p where p.Price 100 && p.Description != "Bike". For this linq statement I would want to dynamically generate at runtime an english description along the lines of: "You are searching for purchases where the price is greater than 100 and the description is not bike". Are there any libraries that already exist which accomplish this goal, keep in mind I am using PredicateBuilder to dynamically generate the where predicate. If no solution exists how would you go about building a solution? Thanks!

According to mysql manual you can restart the value of an auto increment column like this: mysql ALTER TABLE tbl AUTO_INCREMENT = 100; However, this is not possible: mysql ALTER TABLE tb2 AUTO_INCREMENT = (SELECT MAX(id) FROM tbl1); I need to perform something like this because I'm filling the tables using a script.   I have two tables, both having more than 20 million records; table1 is a list of terms, and table2 is a list of keywords that may or may not appear in those terms. I need to identify the terms that contain a keyword. My current strategy is: SELECT table1.term, table2.keyword FROM table1 INNER JOIN table2 ON table1.term LIKE CONCAT('%', table2.keyword, '%'); This is not working, it takes f o r e v e r. It's not the server (see notes). How might I rewrite this so that it runs in under a day? Notes: As for server optimization: both tables are myisam and have unique indexes on the matching fields; the myisam key buffer is greater than the sum of both index file sizes, and it is not even being fully taxed (key_blocks_unused is ... large); the server is a dual-xeon 2U beast with fast sas drives and 8G of ram, fine-tuned for the mysql workload.

What I learned, the best strategy is to try to find the top and bottom values of the top range and then select the rest, but implementing is a bit tricky. Example table: id | title | group_id | votes I'd like to get the top 3 voted rows from the table, for each group. I have a button in the parent document that says "Delete selected", and I'd like to be able to click this button and populate a hidden field in my parent page with the values of the selected checkboxes in the child iframe. My checkboxes look like this: <input id="Checkbox1" type="checkbox" value="47" title="Select this row" name="selectItem"/> I have an instance of jquery on my parent page so I can make use of jquery selectors, I just have no clue as to the syntax needed to do this. • Android insert into sqlite database

  I know there is probably a simple thing I'm missing, but I've been beating my head against the wall for the past hour or two. I have a database for the Android application I'm currently working on (Android v1.6) and I just want to insert a single record into a database table. My code looks like the following: //Save information to my table sql = "INSERT INTO table1 (field1, field2, field3) " + "VALUES (" + field_one + ", " + field_two + ")"; Log.v("Test Saving", sql); myDataBase.rawQuery(sql, null); the myDataBase variable is a SQLiteDatabase object that can select data fine from another table in the schema. The saving appears to work fine (no errors in LogCat) but when I copy the database from the device and open it in sqlite browser the new record isn't there. I also tried manually running the query in sqlite browser and that works fine. The table schema for table1 is _id, field1, field2, field3. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
