• View plain text files with different background colors in Mac OSX, for different programming languag

  Hi, I work with Mac OS X Leopard. I usually have 5 or 10 text files opened at the same time with different programming languages; one for a bash script, another for a python one, etc. When I use exposé all of them look the same, so it is difficult to select them. I wonder how could I work with just plain text files in OSX, so when they are opened in an editor the background color changes or some other thign, so when using exposé it is clear to me which window belongs to what language. I thought about inserting some kind of info to the last line of each document, and then creat some applescript that converts it to RTF or someother text document which includes color in bacjground, so then it is opened with textmate or someother app. Do you know a better approach for this? • How do I list all non-system stored procedures?

  I want to create a query to list of all user defined stored procedures, excluding the ones that are system stored procedures, considering that: Checking the name like "sp_" doesn't work because there are user stored procedures that start with "sp_". Checking the property is_ms_shipped doesn't work because there are system stored procedures that have that flag = 0, for example: sp_alterdiagram (it is not MSShipped but appears under System Stored Procedures in SQL Server Management Studio). There must be a property, or a flag somewhere since you can see the "System Stored Procedures" in a separate folder in SQL 2005. Does anyone know? • In CSS, can "#footer #caption" coexist with "#content # caption"?

  I was going to "nest" the CSS ids like this #content #caption { color: teal } ... #footer #caption { margin: 2em 1em } because that's the way SASS (a CSS generator) can do nesting for... but then in one HTML document, we cannot have two ids with the same name, isn't that true, so the above nesting won't work or won't work well. (esp if document.getElementById() or $('#caption') or $('caption') is needed to select the element). We can use #content #content_caption { color: teal } ... #footer #footer_caption { margin: 2em 1em } but then why 1 more level of nesting? why not just #content_caption { color: teal } ... #footer_caption { margin: 2em 1em } ?

  Here's the method i want to write: public static IEnumerable<String> GetTableNames(this IQueryable<T> query) { //... } where the IQueryable is a linq-to-sql query (is there a more specific interface i should use?). then if i had a query like this var q = from c in db.Customers from p in db.Products where c.ID = 3 select new {p.Name, p.Version}; q.GetTableNames();// return ["Customers", "Products"] basically it would show all the tables that this query touches in the db, it is ok to execute the query to figure this out too (since that is going to happen anyway)? any ideas?

• CSS: Why won't this box get wider?

  I just need a sanity check here... DEMO Basically, I can't figure out how to get the box under the link to get wider as more content is added. It seems fixed to the width of the parent div (or the width of, say, the longest element like the select or a really long word with no spaces), despite being absolutely positioned. I use this trick all the time with ul and li but it doesn't make sense to use that in my situation, and for some crazy reason it just won't work with a div inside a div. I don't want to set a width (which, of course, works) because I don't always know what will be in this box. GRR Thanks :\

  Say I have a sorted-set of integers, xs, and I want to retrieve all the integers in xs that are [x, y), ie. between x and y. I can do: (select #(and (>= % x) (< % y)) xs) But this is inefficient - O(n) when it could be O(k log n) where k is the number of integers returned. I am just learning clojure so here is how I would do it in C++: set<int>::iterator first = xs.lower_bound(x); set<int>::iterator last = xs.upper_bound(y); for (; first != last; ++first) // do something with *first Can I do this in clojure?

• speed up the speed of a sql query to mysql?

  in my mysql database i've got the geonames database, containing all countries, states and cities. i am using this to create a cascading menu so the user could select where he is from: country - state - county - city. but the main problem is that the query will search through all the 7 millions rows in that table each time i want to get the list of children rows, and that is taking a while 10-15 seconds. i wonder how i could speed this up: caching? table views? reorganizing table structure somehow? and most important, how do i do these things? are there good tutorials you could link to me? i appreciate all help and feedback discussing smart ways of handling this issue!

• querying databases on same server with linq

  In normal sql I could do joins on tables in different databases as long as they were on the same server (or linked servers). In linq I can't figure out how to do that. Is this possible? For example, if I have a database called db1 and another called db2. db1 has a table called people and db2 has a table called address I could do something like... select a.addressline1, p.firstname from db1.dbo.people p inner join db2.dbo.address a on p.peopleid = a.peopleid Is this possible with linq? The first part is fairly simple: SELECT Recipient, Count(*) EmailCount FROM Messages GROUP BY Recipient ORDER BY Recipient Which gives me: Recipient EmailCount [email protected] 2 [email protected] 3 [email protected] 2 How can I get the most recent status code too? • Google Visualization API Geomap: How to handle marker click events?

I initially have the Google Visualization API Geomap on a world view (options['dataMode'] = 'regions') and I capture the 'regionClick' event when a country is clicked like so: google.visualization.events.addListener( geomap, 'regionClick', function (e) { var rowindex = data.getFilteredRows([{column: 0, value: e['region']}]); var location = data.getValue(rowindex[0], 3); location.href = "?ISO=" + e['region'] + "&Location=" + location; }); I then draw the map zoomed into the country in markers mode (options['dataMode'] = 'markers'). However, I can't seem to capture any events when the markers themselves are clicked. The documentation ( http://code.google.com/apis/visualization/documentation/gallery/geomap.html#Events ) only refers to 'select' and 'regionClick' events neither of which are fired in this case. (Tested using Chrome 9, and IE 8.) Has anybody had any success in doing this? Many thanks.

• Is there a way to allow a property of a user control to be modified only during design time?

  I've looked into the DesignOnly attribute, but that doesn't seem to accomplish what I want*. Basically, I'm looking for some way to indicate that some property of a user control (let's say Text) can be modified during design time -- i.e., from the Windows Forms designer in VS (or presumably from any GUI designer that can be used to modify a Windows Forms GUI) -- but not during run time. Once the application is running, the property should effectively be readonly. Is this possible? * When I add the DesignOnly attribute to a property, the value I select for that property from design mode doesn't seem to stick; the property just ends up being whatever I have it set to by default in code.

• Jquery click function does not load ajax tabs

  I have some tabs that load ajax content. When I click on the tabs it loads the ajax content perfectly no issues works exactly like it does in the Jqueryui demos. But when I try and change tab using an onclick function it opens the tab but doesn't do the ajax. Is this a known issue can it be done??   Hi, I'm trying to change Back Button tittle in a navigation controller in the following way: In the parent controller I put this in vieDidLoad: self.title = @"Calendars"; self.navigationItem.backBarButtonItem.title = @"Previous"; But this controller is in the stack since I initialized the app: -(void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application{ navController.viewControllers= [NSArray arrayWithObjects:aController,aBcontroller,nil]; [window addSubview:navController.view]; } So, the viewDidLoad in aController is not called until I select the back buttom the first time in the bController... Does anyone knows how to call viewDidLoad just when I push it into the stack? Or do you know another way to change the BackButtom title? Thanks in advanced for your help.

  I have a asp:SqlDataSource and asp:DropDownList components on my page. On normal page it works ok. Now I'd like to put this on new page with url like ...mypage.aspx?transactionID=2. In Page_Load I would like to set Transaction drop down selected index to 2. But it always binds to 1. I assume, that things happen in this order: in Page_Load I set selected index to 2. Then asp:SqlDataSource's select statement executes and binds to DropDownList. That's why selected index of my DropDownList is always 1, no matter what I set it in Page_Load. So, how can I bind asp:SqlDataSource to asp:DropDownList and also set it's selected index parameter to some integer?

  When querying for large ammount of data through WMI (say the windows events log Win32_NTLogEvent) it is very useful to know what kind of numbers you are getting yourself into before downloading all the content. Is there a way two do this? From what i know there is no "Select Count(*) FROM Win32_NTLogEvent" in WQL. From what i know the Count property of the ManagementObjectCollection actually enumerates through all the results whether you have the Rewindable property set to true or false. If it cannot be done in .NET, can it be done by directly using the underlying IWbem objects Thanks
