• How can I use the shell to make my mp3s a Shoutcast source?

  I'm looking to stream a directory of mp3s from my audio source (Debian server) to my Shoutcast server. The idea is to have an archive playing in the instance that someone isn't broadcasting live. I'm not sure how to continue. I started with extensive Google-ing, and was unable to come up with a solution. Evan Carroll suggested I try here. I appreciate any insight y'all may have. __ On a side note, "users with less than 100 reputation can't create new tags. The tags 'shoutcast-source shoutcast broadcasting' are new. Try using existing tags instead." -- Who can create these?

  A developer recently ran a PCI Scan with TripWire against our LAMP server. They identified several issues and instructed the following to correct the issues: Problem: SSL Server Supports Weak Encryption for SSLv3, TLSv1, Solution: Add the following rule to httpd.conf SSLCipherSuite ALL:!aNULL:!eNULL:!LOW:!EXP:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM Problem: SSL Server Supports CBC Ciphers for SSLv3, TLSv1 Solution: Disable any cipher suites using CBC ciphers Problem: SSL Server Supports Weak MAC Algorithm for SSLv3, TLSv1 Solution: Disable any cipher suites using MD5 based MAC algorithms I tried searching google for a comprehensive tutorial on how to construct an SSLCipherSuite directive to meet my requirements, but I didn't find anything I could understand. I see examples of SSLCipherSuite directives, but I need an explanation on what each component of the directive does. So even in the directive SSLCipherSuite ALL:!aNULL:!eNULL:!LOW:!EXP:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM, I dont understand for example what the !LOW means. Can someone either a) tell me the SSLCipherSuite directive that will meet my needs or b) show me a resource that clearly explains each segment of a SSLCipherSuite is and how to construct one?

• Can connect to DNS addresses typed in the URL but not by IP addresses

  I just changed over my modem to bridged mode, and changed my wireless router to PPPoE. My PC IP address is reserved and forwards port 80 to my computer's IP address based on my MAC address. I have a problem, however. I cannot access my local webserver by public IP address or my router 192.168.0.1 wirelessly from any other computer or iPad. I can, however, connect by this PC which is connected to the wireless router via ethernet. Via wireless, it says it cannot connect, however DNS addresses work (e.g. google.com, etc.) Any ideas?

• Why is HTML/Javascript minification beneficial

  Why is HTML/Javascript minification beneficial when the HTTP protocol already supports gzip data compression? I realize that Javascript/HTML minification has the potential to significantly reduce the size of Javascript/HTML files by removing unnecessary whitespace, and perhaps renaming variables to a few letters each, but doesn't the LZW algorithm do especially well when there are many repeated characters (e.g. lots of whitespace?) I realize that some Javascript minification tools do more than just reduce size. Google's closure compiler, for example, also tries to improve code performance by inlining functions and doing other analyses. But the primary purpose of Javascript minification is usually to reduce file size. I also realize there are other reasons you might want to minify aside from performace, such as code obfuscation. But again, that reason is not usually emphasized as much as performance gain and file size reduction. For example, Closure Compiler is not advertised as an obfuscation tool, but as a code size reducer and download-speed enhancer. So, how much performance do you really gain from Javascript/HTML minification when you're already significantly reducing file size with gzip compression?

• Specifying an Internal (LAN) DNS Server in Netgear DGND3700 (N600) router

  I have a DNS server running on a linux machine on my LAN which has domains for a few devices in my LAN. The resolve.conf file has google and the isp nameservers in it, as well as itself. Dunno if that helps or hinders but this setup has worked for years. I used to have a Thomson 585 ADSL router where I set the internal DNS Server as the primary DNS and the ISPs DNS server as the secondary. True enough all connected devices could access domains specified in the internal DNS. Recently I had to replace the Thomson router with a Netgear DGND3700 (N600) ADSL router. The problem is that if I specify the internal DNS server in this router, I lose internet connection as well as connection to the router itself. Does anyone know how I can use the internal DNS as the primary in the router?

• Why i can not load a simple pixel shader effect (. fx) file in xna?

  I just want to load a simple *.fx file into my project to make a (pixel shader) effect. But whenever I try to compile my project, I get the following error in visual studio Error List: Errors compiling .. ID3DXEffectCompiler: There were no techniques ID3DXEffectCompiler: Compilation failed I already searched on google and found many people with the same problem. And I realized that it was a problem of encoding. With the return lines unrecognized '\ n' . I tried to copy and paste to notepad and save as with ASCII or UTF8 encoding. But the result is always the same. Do you have an idea please ? • (200 ok) ACCEPTED - Is this a hacking attempt?

  I assume this is some type of hacking attempt. I've try to Google it but all I get are sites that look like they have been exploited already. I'm seeing requests to one of my pages that looks like this. /listMessages.asp?page=8&catid=5+%28200+ok%29+ACCEPTED The '(200 ok) ACCEPTED' is what is odd. But it does not appear to do anything. I'm running on IIS 5 and ASP 3.0. Is this "hack" meant for some other type of web server?

• no-www redirect not working / DNS A record

  I'm far from an expert on this, but I'll try to be as clear as possible. I have an eshop solution leased from a company and it's hosted on their server. I can access it thru company.com/myshop and it also allows me to set up to 3 domains that they should recognize and redirect to my specific shop from. I registered a domain with a different company and am trying to "redirect" it to the eshop. By means of one of the following DNS entries (as they look in the admin GUI) * A 111.111.111.111 *.myshop.com A 111.111.111.111 myshop.com A 111.111.111.111 I've managed to make www.myshop.com redirect to the IP of company.com (111.111.111.111), which then goes on to do exactly what I expect it to do (ie. recognizes it comes from my domain, does some further redirects itself). However, I can't seem to make myshop.com (ie. without the www) redirect to that IP, too. The company that I registered the domain with provides a "URL redirect" service, but google would only register the redirect request and wouldn't follow it. That's why I hope for a DNS solution to this - my assumption being I've managed to miss adding a record to the DNS; if, however, the reason lies elsewhere, I'd be happy to hear about that too. If it's a search engine friendly solution (ie the www/no-www dilemma - avoidance of double content penalties), then that's even better; have no prefference either way (www/no-www), just need it to work. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

• AuthResend query string being appended to URL

  One of our clients is having an issue where POSTBACK seems to be broken when they connect to our Sharepoint application. When they navigate to a URL, an erroneous query string gets appended to the URL, so the end of the URL becomes: .../default.aspx&AuthResend1908BC2350124b5095AB75012FA405BA this isn't something that appears on any other clients computers or ours internally. This is the only difference and it seems to be breaking their pages. I had a quick Google and it seems that it's to do with a Microsoft ISA server, but I have no experience with that. Is this a bug or setting on their ISA server?

• Regex syntax question - trying to understand

  i don't know if this question belong here or no, but it is worth a shot. i'm a self taught php programmer and i'm only now starting to grasp the regex stuff. i'm pretty aware of its capabilities when it is done right, but this is something i need to dive in too. so maybe someone can help me, and save me so hours of experiment. i have this string: here is the <a href="http://www.google.com" class="ttt" title="here"><img src="http://www.somewhere.com/1.png" alt="some' /></a> and there is <a href="#not">not</a> a chance... now, i need to perg_match this string and search for the a href tag that has an image in it, and replace it with the same tag with a small difference: after the title attribute inside the tag, i'll want to add a rel="here" attribute. of course, it should ignore links (a href's) that doesn't have img tag inside. help will be appreciated, thanks.

• Bring Office 2003 Menus Back to 2010 with UBitMenu

  Are you having trouble getting used to the Ribbon interface in Office 2010?  Here’s how you can roll back the clock a bit and bring back the familiar menus and toolbars from 2003. The Office 2007 Ribbon was both praised and criticized.  While many users felt they were more productive with the new interface, others felt frustrated searching for commands they had memorized in older versions of Office.  Now, with Office 2010, the ribbon interface has been brought to every app in the Office suite, and is integrated into many newer programs from Microsoft. If you’re moving from Office 2003, using UBitMenu allows you to add the old familiar menus back along with the new Ribbon interface for an easier learning curve. Also, with the customizability of Office 2010, we can strip away the extra Ribbon tabs to make it more like 2003. Get the 2003 Menus and Toolbars Back in Office 2010 Download UBitMenu (link below), and install as normal.  Make sure all of your Office programs are closed during the installation.  This handy utility is very small, and installed amazingly quick. Open Word, Excel, or PowerPoint and there’s now a new Menu tab beside Home in the Ribbon.  Now you can access all of your favorite old Office commands in the familiar menus, and access many of the newer Office features such as SmartArt.   Here’s a close-up of the toolbar.  Notice that the layout is very similar to that of Word 2003. You can access all of the new Transitions in PowerPoint 2010 from the menu bar.   The menu in Excel even included support for the new PivotTable and PivotCharts Wizard. One problem we noticed was that the toolbars were condensed to a drop-down menu if the Office window was less than 870px wide.  This may be a frustration to users with low-resolution displays, and you might want to use the Office Apps maximized. Get Rid of the Ribbon Now that you’ve got the old menus back, you can get rid of the extra ribbon tabs if you’d like.  Office 2010 lets you customize your ribbon and remove tabs, so let’s get rid of all the other tabs except for our new Menu tab.  In our example we’re using Word, but you can do it in Excel or PowerPoint the same way. Click the File tab and select Options. Alternately, in the Menu tab, select Tools and then Word Options. Select Customize Ribbon on the left sidebar, then uncheck the boxes beside all the ribbon tabs you want to hide on the right.  Click Ok when you’re finished. While you’re at it, you can change the default color scheme as well. Note: The color change will automatically change the color scheme in all of the Office apps, so you’ll only need to do that once. Now the ribbon only has 2 tabs…the File tab for the new Backstage View, and the UBitMenu tab we just installed.  It almost has the appearance Word 2003, but with the new features of Word 2010!  You’ll need to repeat these steps in Excel and PowerPoint if you want to customize their ribbon the same.   Conclusion If you’ve been having a hard time getting used to Office 2010, UBitMenu is a great way to get familiar with the new interface, or simply stay productive with your old tricks.  We do wish it supported the other Office applications like OneNote and Outlook. That doesn’t make it a deal breaker though, it can make the learning curve easier in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. UBitMenu is free for personal use, and available at a very reasonable price for businesses. If you’re using Office 2007 and not a fan of the Ribbon, UBitMenu works for it as well. • Submit form to another domain

  I need to access the result of submitting a form to a website. There is a web site where you complete a form and it posts the information using ajax and then tells you if you have their service in the are or not. I'd like to be able to do this from my web page, which means posting the information required by the form to their server and getting the result. The problem is I get "403 Forbidden", I think it's because the "Origin" being a different domain. Is there anyway that I can the response from the server on my website? • Hack Apart a Highlighter to Create UV-Reactive Flowers [Science]

  College students have long been hacking apart highlighters to create glowing bottles of booze to line their dorm room walls. Far more interesting, however, is the application of the hack to flowers. Many of you may remember a science class experiment from years gone by where in you put food coloring in a beaker and then some freshly cut white flowers; returning to the experiment a day later yielded flowers colored to match the dye you added. This little experiment relies on the same technique, only instead of blue food coloring the flowers suck up UV-reactive highlighter dye. • How to execute with /bin/false shell

  I am trying to setup per-user fastcgi scripts that will run each on a different port and with a different user. Here is example of my script: #!/bin/bash BIND=127.0.0.1:9001 USER=user PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=2 PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS=10000 etc... However, if I add user with /bin/false (which I want, since this is about to be something like shared hosting and I don't want users to have shell access), the script is run under 1001, 1002 'user' which, as my Google searches showed, might be a security hole. My question is: Is it possible to allow user(s) to execute shell scripts but disable them so they cannot log in via SSH?

• Where do I find a color profile for my MacBook Pro display?

  I installed Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro, overwriting OSX Lion. The screen has a blue tint due to lack of a calibrated color profile. I once used the "Color LCD" ICC profile from the OSX partition and it worked great, but I've since lost it since I decided to overwrite OSX completely. I tried the manual calibration in Windows 7 but I just can't seem to get it right like it was while using the color profile that was on the OSX partition. All Google tells me is where to find the ICC profile in OSX, and to copy it over. Do I have to reinstall OSX just for the color profile? Even if I do, where does the profile actually come from? Is it on the OSX disk, or is it somehow retrieved from the hardware itself? Is there a way to get it without reinstalling OSX? Thanks!

• Computer and internet use on a boat?

  Let's assume that I seriously would like to be able to use my computer as easily and as carefreely while on a boat as I do while at home. In short, if I were on a boat for extended periods, such as two weeks at a time and occasionally over a few days out of port (this would be a 2 person sailing vessel), what would my options be for power, durability, and of course, internet access? I want more than just email, as I will likely keep doing a tad of development, and will be looking at google earth from time to time. I am already assuming that we're going with some kind of laptop, maybe even a macbook pro 12". I personally feel that netbooks are underpowered. And the last computer that I got a boat-friendly rating for was a ZX Spectrum, which was before the internet, and was likely due to it's 12vdc-happiness.

• Monitoring outgoing bandwidth of application

  I currently have a VPS that is consuming a ton of outgoing bandwidth and I am trying to drill down to where this may be coming from. Does anyone know of a logical way to go about finding out which pages on the site are consuming the most outgoing data. We have done a ton of front-end optimizations to the site and our google page speed rankings ar 85% so I feel we have done a pretty great job at optimizing the site for speed. Can someone lend some insight on how they have made similar optimizations? Application / Server Stack LEMP Running Varnish Cache / PHP5-FPM WordPress running w3 Total Cache Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

• Light-weight, free, database query tool for Windows?

  My question is very similar to the one here except pertaining to a Windows tool. I am also referencing this table and what I found here with a Google search. However, I have no idea which tool would best meet my (very basic) purposes. I am currently using Excel with a basic ODBC connection string to query my database at work. However, Excel is pretty memory-heavy and a basic query tends to throw my computer into a 30 second stall-a-thon. Is there a free tool out there that is light-weight and can serve the same purpose when provided an ODBC connection and a SQL query? Also would prefer that it easily copies over to a spreadsheet as needed.

• Cisco WebVPN RDP Plugin and NLA

  I'm having trouble finding anything in Cisco's docs or with Google searches, so I'm hoping someone out in ServerFault land might know. We've recently enabled NLA domain-wide to protect against some of the recent RDP vulnerabilities. However, we can no longer use the Cisco WebVPN on our ASA to connect to these boxes (Connection Failure). I assume this is because the RDP2 plugin (as of Apr 27 2012) doesn't support NLA? Is there another version of the plugin that does? Thanks!

• Web Fonts in Firefox behind Squid

  It appears as though Firefox requests web fonts (specifically Google's) in a different manner than other browsers. They fail to load when behind Squid as a result, and I'm trying to isolate why. Using this page as a reference in various browsers, Firefox noticeably displays it differently. In the Squid logs, you see hits like this: TCP_DENIED/407 3292 GET http://themes.googleusercontent.com/font? - NONE/- text/html If you load the same page with IE, you see hits like this: TCP_DENIED/407 4389 GET http://themes.googleusercontent.com/static/fonts/federant/v1/C109bUmZeyhh-vIXq9lNfvesZW2xOQ-xsNqO47m55DA.woff - NONE/- text/html So why the difference and how can we make it play nice with Firefox? This is running Squid 3.1.15, but also tested with a few other 3.1.x versions.

• How to get a good current VMWare browser appliance?

  I'd like to have a small VMWare virtual machine that runs a copy of Firefox, with Flash enabled. (Or some equivalently-capable browser.) I tried doing some Google searching with no luck finding good keywords, and tried looking through VMWare's "marketplace" of VMs, but all I found were things from 2006 or so. Is there a reasonably easy way to get a current one? Ideally, I'd like to just download one somewhere, but in the alternative, a quick how-to guide would be useful. I know I could go through the whole process of getting a full-Linux-install VM and setting things up, but that seems like quite a lot of trouble and ends up with a pretty heavyweight solution to the problem, so I'm hoping there's a simpler way.

• Partimage and autocheck problem when restoring Windows XP from image

  I'm trying to create an image of Windows XP and clone it to several partitions on the same hard drive using Partimage. I seem to be running into a problem when I restore the image onto another partition - when I boot into the OS from the partition I just restored, it brings up this message during the boot sequence: autochk program not found - skipping autocheck, and then after this, the OS reboots the PC and the whole process repeats itself in an infinite loop. After doing some Google search, it is suggested that this loop was caused by the partition being hidden or the mountmgr.sys file is missing. I checked my configuration and verified that this was not the case. I'm just wondering: Has anyone else experienced this and is there a solution for it? Is this what happens when you try to restore the image to a different partition on the same hard disk or is Partimage itself the problem? Should I be trying out a different partition cloning software?
