• problem when migrating from development into live server

  I'm facing problem when migrate my web app project from development server to live server. the reason is because i just realize that the live server has different PHP version and available memory lower then mine. i found this after client give me their ftp and cpanel access of their server, which is a shared host. so, how do we handle this situation ? and avoid similar problem in the future ? What is the most suitable configuration of a development server ? btw, i use xampp in windows. it's has apache and mysql.

• Imagick: gifs, and background color

  Hi, I have 2 questions about using the php imagick class that I can't get working properly... 1.) I tried resizing / cropping a gif, and treated it as a normal image. It seemed to work, except that a few frames in the middle of the animation contained a small patch of artifacts. Is there a setting that should be used when working with multi-frame gifs? 2.) Is there a simple command to resize images if they are too small by just adding a background? For instance, if an image is 10x10, could I add a white background, and have a 100x100px image with the original in the upper left corner? Thanks for any help!

• Most efficient way to update a MySQL Database on a Linux host with that of an ASP.Net Form on Window

  My kind webhost (1and1) royally asked me to go elsewhere to do something like this. I have 2 sites. One of them was developed by a .Net programmer. Now I am contracted to implement a PHP site and fetch data from the .Net site. There is an ASP.Net form that a customer fills and when they hit submit, the data gets stored in SQL Server DB. How do I also store the same data in MySQL parallelly? I cannot directly use some database connectors with ASP.Net since MySQL connectivity is not supported on 1and1 Windows hosting (biz account, no less!). What I thought of is to publish an RSS feed of entries in ASP.Net site and routinely scrape that data into MySQL on Linux host. It is an overkill, I know. Not efficient. I thought I would pick the best brains on SOF to get a different, efficient opinion. Thanks in advance guys...

  I already have an express checkout integrated with my Codeigniter application. Now I want to integrate seamless paypal where I collect the CC information and pass it to Paypal (via backend) and once everything is approved, my application shows that to the user. All this with out ever going to Paypal's website. I know that Paypal gives a bunch of sample code but they have so many different products that advertise to do the same thing. Is there any wrapper library in PHP that I can use for handling all this? What sort of design decision is involved in migrating to such system? Would I need SSL certificates for this?

  Hello I am working on internal PHP application where users login only from our network (we are on dedicated IP and application is checking $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] and if is match our IP go thru if not - Bye However how I can identify from which station user is login ? Using cookie not gonna work - those are windows station working under control MS StedyState and all cookies are deleted every login I don't need nothing fancy like full MAC address just any unique ID (can not be application username - because users use different stations) Any ideas ? Maybe Javascript is able to grab some Unique detail from station's browser (IE 8) and pass this as hidden input? bensiu

• A good approach to db planing for reporting service

  The scenario: Big system (~200 tables). 60,000 users. Complex reports that will require me to do multiple queries for each report and even those will be complex queries with inner queries all over the place + some processing in PHP. I have seen an approach, which I am not sure about: Having one centralized, de-normalized, table that registers any activity in the system which is reportable. This table will hold mostly foreign keys, so she should be fairly compact and fast. So, for example (My system is a virtual learning management system), A user enrolls to course, the table stores the user id, date, course id, organization id, activity type (enrollment). Of course I also store this data in a normalized DB, which the actual application uses. Pros I see: easy, maintainable queries and code to process data and fast retrieval. Cons: there is a danger of the de-normalized table to be out of sync with the real DB. Is this approach worth considering, or (preferably from experience) is total $#%#%t?

• Problem with auto increment primary key (MySQL).

  I have 2 tables each using other's primary key as a foreign key. The primary keys for both are set to auto_increment. The problem is, when I try to create and entry into one of the tables, I have no idea what the primary key of the entry is and can't figure out what to put in the other table as a foreign key. What should I do? Do I drop auto_increment altogether and cook up a unique identifier for each entry so I can use it to address the created entries? I'm using PHP, if that's relevant. Thanks.

When I call a pdo query connection within a function and the connection is included outside the function, the connection becomes undefined. Anyone know what I am doing wrong here? • Advanced search functionality

  I have a website with a jQuery based autocomplete search functionality which works great. Currently though I have just one search box for all categories, what I want is for someone to be able to type in, say for example, dorian gray dvd (in any order) which will search for dorian gray within the dvd category. What this will require then is a bit of magic on the server side to figure out if any of the words are category keywords, and then limit the search by that. What is the best (and quickest) way to do this in PHP / MySQL? I currently have a few trains of thought Search the category table for matches and perhaps order the results by that. Or split up the search terms into an array and separately search the categories for that for a match. Another thought I just had is to concat the category title to the dvd title in the database and match against that, or something similar... but this sounds computationally expensive? Any advice?

  Let's suppose I have the following line in a CSV file (I removed the header row in this example): "500,000",2,50,2,90000 I have a PHP script read the CSV file, break the file into individual lines, and store each line in an array called $linearray. Then, I use a foreach loop to look at each line individually. Within the foreach loop, I break the line into separate variables using the following function: $line = str_replace("'","\'",$line); From here, I insert the values into separate columns within a MySQL database. The script works. The values are inserted into a database, but I run into a problem. I want: "500,000" | 2 | 50 | 2 | 90000 But I get this: "500 | 000" | 2 | 50 | 2 | 90000 The script isn't smart enough to understand it should skip commas within quotation marks. Do you know how I can alter my script to make sure I get the output I'm looking for? Thanks.

If I submit a form and in the action attribute of it i pass "$_SERVER['PHP_SELF']" and at the same time i am using url rewriting for the same page.. then these two things will contradict each other resulting in the display of action value of form in address bar.. so how can i manage this to get the url rewrited form of $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']? here the rewrite rule is to change the name of url file likewise as if form is submitted to any file say direction.php then rewrite will change it to something 30/redirect.html

  Dear all, I would like to do a simple sum per salesid in php - mysql after cross calculation between date (2 table) to get the real time commission, all the value already come out correctly but I got problem with final sum per sales id. salesid-commission aa0001 - 1000 bb0001 - 500 aa0001 - 200 bb0001 - 50 I already try with few sample in this web but still cannot meet the correct result.   I want to use a datagrid in one of my modules (Symfony 1.3, Propel ORM). I have spent a while searching the web, but everything I found expects a direct connection to teh db (mySQL) or is otherwise unsuitable. I found the datagrid plugin (http://symfony.swisscenter.com/datagrid/exemples), but the documentation/examples are in French - and I'm not too keen on learning French just for the sake of using the plugin - besides, if all the users are French speakers, then it will be difficult to get support/help if/when I do hget stuck. So my questions are: Is anyone aware of a good (PHP) datagrid component that I can use with SF? Is anyone out there (English speaker), using the SF datagrid plugin?

Actually, I'm only trying to remove any linebreaks/tabs and comments from the file. the following works for me: $regex = array('{\t|\r|\n}', '{(/\*(.*?)\*/)}'); echo preg_replace($regex, '', file_get_contents($file)); But I'd like to do it in a single multiline regex, like this: $regex = <<<EOF {( \t | \r | \n | /\*(.*?)\*/ )}x EOF; echo preg_replace($regex, '', file_get_contents($file)); However, this does not do anything at all. Is there any way to do this? Regards, x3ro Edit: Ok, so I'll take a look at existing minifiers, but it still leaves me with the question how I would do a multiline regex like this, because with the x-modifier multiline regexs should work fine even in php, shouldn't they?

Question: How do I redirect all requests from that test URL to reroute to the actual domain? So, for instance, I would want: www.domainname.com.php5-9.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com/page-name To go to: www.domainname.com/page-name The website is powered by WordPress and hosted on a PHP server. • What's the best technology for a medium complexity web application?

  I'm planning to work on a web application of reasonable complexity and am wondering what technology to go with. It will probably start with one person, but there will be 2 or 3 more eventually. My first requirement is to be able to do this as quickly as possible - preferably with as less code as possible. Secondly requirement is that it should be able to scale easily. I have worked with .NET and PHP. So, I am thinking about ASP .NET MVC or CakePHP. It appears to me that CakePHP might be quicker. I did look at Ruby on Rails, but the learning curve is a little steep (which is not an issue if I can be convinced that this is the best tool for the task), I'm not too crazy about the huge number of files generated and I have heard about scalability issues as well as it's applicability to complex situations. I look forward to your opinions on your favorite technology and why.

  A lot of companies use CMS software that updates on the regular, often they are security fixes, implying that the previous version have security vulnerabilities. But most clients never upgrade this, or even the CMS has been modified so that an update would break the site. Are there sites that document these exploits, and instruct how to test for them? Or does this information not even get published? (in order not to have people try to exploit them) Also is there a generic php/js based check list to prevent hack attempts?   I'm interested in learning more about design practices in PHP for Database Abstraction & Factory methods. For background, my site is a common-interest social networking community currently in beta mode. Currently, I've started moving my old code for object retrieval to factory methods. However, I do feel like I'm limiting myself by keeping a lot of SQL table names and structure separated in each function/method. Questions: Is there a reason to use PEAR (or similar) if I dont anticipate switching databases? Can PEAR interface with the MySqli prepared statements I currently use? Will it help me separate table names from each method? (If no, what other design patterns might I want to research?) Will it slow down my site once I have a significantly large member base?
