• Icons in Windows Form Applications (VS2008)

  This is yet another question about .ico files. I have read through many pages trying to figure this out but I am unable to. When I go to Properties - Application of my Windows Form Application there is a place for me to pick the icon for my application. I have made a 32x32 icon and it takes it just fine, but the image is grainy when it is applied to my .exe file, like it is a picture that has been expanded more than it should have. 1.) Why is this? 2.) Is there any .ico file size other than 32x32 than a Windows Form Application can accept? I have tried 48x48 but it doesn't like that. I just want my .exe file to look nice!

• Compressing three individual jpeg pics containing temporal redundancy?

  I am interfacing and embedded device with a camera module that returns a single jpeg compressed frame each time I trigger it. I would like to take three successive shots (approx 1 frame per 1/4 second) and further compress the images into a single file. The assumption here is that there is a lot of temporal redundancy, therefore lots of room for more compression across the three frames (compared to sending three separate jpeg images). I will be implementing the solution on an embedded device in C without any libraries and no OS. The camera will be taking pics in an area with very little movement (no visitors or screens in the background, maybe a tree with swaying branches), so I think my assumption about redundancy is pretty solid. When the file is finally viewed on a pc/mac, I don't mind having to write something to extract the three frames (so it can be a nonstandard cluge) So I guess the actual question is: What is the best way to compress these three images together given the fact that they are already in JPEG format (it is a possibly to convert back to a raw image, but if i dont have too...)

Basically if I clear my cache and visit the test page, everytime I rollover and rolloff the image it is loading the file each time, so you could sit there for hours and it would still be loading the rollover images each time. However, when I refresh the page and the images are now in the cache it works instantly, which is what I need to achieve. I've tried using this http://flesler.blogspot.com/2008/01/jquerypreload.html plugin to preload the images with this $.preload('.ro'); code, but it seems to have no effect. Any ideas?

• Why does Google mark one e-mail as spam while does not the other?

  I've a Postfix installation which works fine, I don't get any trouble with mails sent through a mail client (in my case, Thunderbird or RoundCube) when the To: address is a GMail account. However, I recently needed to use the PHPMailer tool to send some e-mails to some GMail accounts, so I configured an account to be used via SASL authentication + TLS. I don't mean mass mailing, just 2-3 mails. If I send the e-mail from the Thunderbird or RoundCube clients, the mail is not marked as spam. However, if I use PHPMailer, it always gets catalogued as spam. So I compared both headers and I just can't find the reason why the second is marked as spam while the first one is just ok. I though the two gets were going out at the same time but there is no corresponding number of responses. Also when trying to reproduce this pattern as the server if I abort the first GET request the client waits until it times out and starts the request over with out sending any other requests. What is happening here? How can I reproduce it?

  Hi, image two lists for selecting roles for a new user creation in an administrator frontend. One list has all available roles in it and another has the selected roles in it. Between those lists are buttons to move elements from one list to another. Thus the layout is horizontal with [List] [Buttons] [List]. Now to the question: Should the selected elements be on the left, or the right list? Intuitively some people I asked say, that the selected elements have to be on the right list. But some other people follow some sort of guideline that says, that the more important stuff in a frontend has to be on the left side. Also they think the selected elements are more important than the non-selected and so the selected ones have to be on the left side. Whats your opinion?

On my iphone the image does not appear, only some second of blackscreen and after my app start. In the simulator the splashscreen appear. • C# Exception when retrieving rows from a datagrid in virtual mode

  Hi all, I keep getting an exception (see below) when I retrieve a list of rows from a Virtual Mode datagrid, this only happens when I have more rows than I can display on screen and it doesn't happen every time. Is there anything I'm missing with regards to virtual mode? Update The image below shows the problem, the index is now outside the list range. The reason for this is say I have 10 items and I hide 5 as they are not needed and I want to run some code on the 5 that are visible, there are now 5 items but the index of some maybe between 5-9, how can I re-index? When I have run some code on the visible 5 I then show the hidden 5 so I don't want to disgard these, I'd need to reindex again when they are all visible. Many thanks.

• Is MacBook powerful enough to do Ipad development? or do I need a MacBook Pro?

  The title probably says it all. Considering an ipad's processor is nothing compared to a macbook, I would think a Macbook should be more than capable to run the simulator. However, not knowing much about iphone/ipad development, I'd like to get some opinions on this. for e.g. how many apps are typically need to be run for ipad dev (editor, debugger, perf monitor, trace log, etc). are these apps resource (memory, cpu) intensive? please do not take into consideration the actual image, 3d, video, sound development. I understand one would need quite a beefy machine to produce these type of creative assets. What I'm looking at is a machine to do code development, physics, putting together the produced assets (images, vector graphics, 3d video, sound, etc).

  Let's say a security tester uses a proxy, say Fiddler, and records an HTTPS request using the administrator's credentials-- on replay of the entire request (including session and auth cookies) the security tester is able to succesfully (re)record transactions. The claim is that this is a sign of a CSRF vulnerability. What would a malicious user have to do to intercept the HTTPS request and replay it? It this a task for script kiddies, well funded military hacking teams or time-traveling-alien technology? Is it really so easy to record the SSL sessions of users and replay them before the tickets expire? No code in the application currently does anything interesting on HTTP GET, so AFAIK, tricking the admin into clicking a link or loading a image with a malicious URL isn't an issue.

• Is there a way to get different sizes of the Windows system icons in .NET?

  In particular I'd like to be able to get the small (16 x 16) icons at runtime. I tried this: new Icon(SystemIcons.Error, SystemInformation.SmallIconSize) Which supposedly "attempts to find a version of the icon that matches the requested size", but it's still giving me a 32 x 32 icon. I also tried: Size iconSize = SystemInformation.SmallIconSize; Bitmap bitmap = new Bitmap(iconSize.Width, iconSize.Height); using (Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap)) { g.DrawIcon(SystemIcons.Error, new Rectangle(Point.Empty, iconSize)); } But that just scales the 32 x 32 icon down into an ugly 16 x 16. I've considered just pulling icons out of the VS Image Library, but I really want them to vary dynamically with the OS (XP icons on XP, Vista icons on Vista, etc.). I'm willing to P/Invoke if that's what it takes.

• Need help making row of buttons consistent

  I'm making my first website, and I'm trying to make variable-sized buttons so they'll render correctly on low resolution (read: mobile) browsers. Currently I just have the usual rollover image solution (185 pixels wide by 37 tall if anybody cares), but when I preview the site in low resolution it looks, predictably enough, like complete crap (more specifically they don't have room so they arrange vertically instead of horizontally and take up a huge amount of screen real estate). Semi-related, is there a way to overlay text on a button without saving separate images, each with the correct text? Just using a single template for buttons and then deciding what text goes on it as it's needed? tl;dr: I'm trying to get a horizontal lineup of buttons for navigating my website, but I'm a noob and I can't do it right without your generous assistance.

Each widget has 3 files [ js, css , cs] and an image directory: , and we want all these files to be located under the same directory, say: /widgets/mywidget/ The problem is that the .cs file needs to be in the app_code folder to be compiled dynamically and that would break our widget modularity forcing the installator to distribute the widget code in two places. One of the options is use compiled assemblies instead of .cs files and use Assembly.Load() or smthg similar to load them when needed. What other options do you see?

If I understand correctly, it works by letting you specify the window handle of the application you want to view and then having you provide a window handle and a location on that window where windows should draw the contents of the target Window. Is there a way to render the window screen shot directly to BitmapImage or Image instead of directly drawing it somewhere in your window? (Basically to just grab a screen shot of the window - even if it's covered by another window - with out using an updating thumbnail.) Thanks for you help!

• HTML5 CSS3 layout not working

  I have been asked by a local MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) School to help them develop a website. For the life of me I CANNOT get the layout to work correctly. When I get one section set where it should be another moves out of place! here is a pic of the layout: here The header should be a set height as should the footer the entire site at its widest point should be 1250px with the header/content area/footer and the like being 1240px the black in the picture is a scaling background to expand wider as larger resolution systems are viewing them. The full site should be a minimum-height of 100% but scale virtually as content in the target area deems necessary. • Object drag delay issue

  I have this code that drags stuff around perfectly in IE - however in firefox the onmousedown-drag of the object does not immediately drag but shows the no-entry cursor and then after onmouseup the object drags around freely. The object does stop draging on the next onmouseup. The object should only drag in the onmousdown state, while the onmousup call should cancel the drag by making j_OK=0. • reverse colortransform alpha AS3

  I'm fading out a Bitmap in AS3 by repeatedly applying a ColorTransform every frame to its BitmapData; _bitmap.colorTransform(_bitmap.rect, new ColorTransform(1, 1, 1, .9, 0, 0, 0, 1)); When applying the apparent reverse to fade it back in I get a discoloured image. _bitmap.colorTransform(_bitmap.rect, new ColorTransform(1, 1, 1, 1.1, 0, 0, 0, 1)); The problem appears to occur only to fully faded-out images. • matlab: figure size, same axis size

  I have a figure with fixed size, like that: hFig = figure(1); set(hFig, 'Position', [200 200 500 500]) But the thing is, that I want to have my AXIS with fixed size (i want them to be a square), not (necessary) the whole figure... - see image attached, Y axis is a bit longer than X axis (of course longer in a meaning of display... X and Y axis range is set to the same value). How to adjust it? Thanks!
