A quesion about RGB color and its usefulness in a simple tiny php code: Imagine I have variable $colorA containning a valid six char color. say B1B100, a greenish natural color. Now If I would like to make a new color from that, which is, say, ten steps lighter thatn that original color, roughly. $colorA = B1B100 // original color php code with little color engine lightening stuff up goes here $colorB = ?????? // original color lightened up Is there a php ready function that KNOWS rgb colors something like php function RGB ( input color, what to do, output color) Where what to do could be +/- 255 values of brightness etc etc. Is something like this already possible or am I day dreaming? rgb($colorA, +10, $colorB) If this does not exist, what would be the shortest code for doing this?   What is a fast hash function available for the iPhone to hash web urls (images)? I'd like to store the cached web image as a file with a hash as the filename, because I suppose the raw web url could contain strange characters that could cause problems on the file system. The hash function doesn't need to be cryptographic, but it definitely needs to be fast. Example: Input: http://www.calumetphoto.com/files/iccprofiles/icc-test-image.jpg Output: 3573ed9c4d3a5b093355b2d8a1468509 This was done by using MD5(), but since I don't know much about that topic I don't know if it is overkill (- slow).

But the problem is the following: Every id of Point3D must be unique (and can be NULL), so I have decided to create an unique index on this field id, but is that possible? I'm thinking in something like this: create unique index test_point3d_idx on test_point3d (( getID(columname) )); where getID returns the field ID of columname. But I need to implement getID and I am really blocked. Any advice?

  I watch some video and read articles about MVVM pattern and start thinking how should I implement it in my Silverlight app. So at first I create Silverlight application. I think that for clear view I create 3 folders: View - for each user control page in my app, ViewModel - for c# class which will querying date and Model- Entity Data Model of my SQL Server or Oracle Database. And now I am confused, cause I want to implement *WCF/RIA Services/Web services* in my project. In which folder should I put in class of services? I see in examples that Services take date and filtering it and then output data was binding in View - so It looks as ViewModel. But I was sure that someone use Services in Model and that I want to do. But how? Can someone explain me implementing Services as Model? Is my point of view at MVVM is correctly?

  I've been trying to clear my memcache as I'm noticing the storage taking up almost 30% of server memory when using ps -aux.   I want to automate the process of plone3_buildout. Explanation: The default(the one I use) way of building a plone site is using paster, like so: paster create -t plone3_buildout This asks me a few questions and then create a default buildout for the site. What I want: I want to automate this process using buildout. My buildout will execute this paster command, feed in my preconfigured values to the paster. I haven't found a recipe which can do this. If someone has an idea of how to do this, please share the info. If there is a recipe which can feed values to interactive commands(with known output, like with plone3_buildout command), that would be useful too.

• C++ destructor seems to be called 'early'

However I can't seem to find one exactly like mine as all the others are assigning to STL containers (that will delete objects itself) whereas mine is to an array of pointers. For some reason the destructor is going through the same point in the loop twice (0) and then dying. All of this occures before the "nothing seems to have gone wrong" line which I expected before any dtor was called. Thanks in advance :) EDIT The code I posted has some things removed that I thought were unnecessary but after copying and compiling the code I pasted I no longer get the error. What I removed was other integer attributes of the code. I am glad that it is not my memory management failing but rather another error. I have not made a copy and/or assignment operator yet as I was just testing the block tree out, I will almost certainly make them all private very soon. This version spits out -1073741819. If I use the isLoggable method on the various types of debug levels on the Log class, I find that WARN and INFO are returning true. Log.w, and Log.i do not produce any output. Does anyone know which gotchas I've missed? And just to vent, why should this be hard? I've published apps for iphone and bberry and while appreciate the use of java, the platform is reeking of too many "genuiuses" being involved. I suppose Activities and Intents are very flexible, but why? I just want to put up some screens, take some input and show some results. The bberry pushscreen and popscreen is a lot less pretentious.   My question may appear silly. But as I am a rookie in Python , help me out. I have to pass a line to a stopword removal function. It works fine. But my problem is return of the function is appending the words. I want it as like follows: line = " I am feeling good , but I cant talk" Let "I,but,cant" are stopwords. After passing to the function , my output should be as "am feeling good , talk". What I a getting now is [['am','feeling','good','talk']]. Help me.

• Why is the EntityManager in my GAE + Spring (+graniteds) project reset to null?

  Hi all, I'm having a problem with autowiring my EntityManager. Actually at server startup I can see that the injection works ok, though when trying to use my EntityManager it appears to be null again. @Component public class DataDaoImpl { protected EntityManager entityManager; @Autowired public void setEntityManager(EntityManager entityManager) { System.out.println("Injecting "+entityManager); //works! this.entityManager = entityManager; } public void createData(String key, String value) { System.out.println("In createData entityManager is "+entityManager); //entityManager null!? ... Output: Injecting org.datanucleus.store.appengine.jpa.DatastoreEntityManager@a60d19 The server is running at http://localhost:8888/ In createData entityManager is null So somehow the autowired entityManager is reset to null when trying to use it. • Compare values for audit trail

  I'm attempting to develop an audit trail/tracking solution for an existing database written in PLSQL/PHP - however I'm still unsure as of yet on an easy (to implement and maintain) solution for tracking changes to fields/values. For instance, the project tracking portion of the DB APP tracks over 200 fields and ideally I'd like a nice way to show a history of changes, such as: 5/10/2010 - Project 435232 updated by John Doe Changed Project Name (Old: Test Project; New: Super Test Project) Changed Submission Date (Old: 5/10/2010; New: 5/11/2010) Changed Description (Old: This is an example!; New: This is a test example) Essentially for each field (db column) it would output a new line to show the old/new values. So far my current idea is saving the current version of the data to a temporary table, updating the primary table with the new data then loading each row into an array and doing an array compare to determine the differences. This seems a bit convoluted, and if there is an easier method I'd love to know it. Any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated!

  I would like to somehow apply a try catch statement to all Actions as a backstop for any uncaught exceptions. I think this would be particularly helpful for Ajax Actions, because the catch statement could send back a default 4xx status code. Prototype's onFailure() function could then do the client-side error handling. How can I do this without wrapping the Action call with a try/catch in the cake dispatcher like this: try { output = $controller->dispatchMethod($params['action'], $params['pass']); } catch {...} Does anybody have a suggestion or another workable strategy for gaining this functionality without touching the dispatcher? How do people feel about putting exception handling in the Displatcher? I imagine when cake drops php 4 support, there will be a built-in mechanism for this.

• How to stop HTML text in textarea to be interpreted as code

  I have a textarea that users can edit. After the edit I save the text in a PHP variable $bio. When I want to display it I do this: <?php $bio = nl2br($bio); echo $bio; ?> But if a user for example types an HTML command like "strong" in their text my site will actually output the text as bold. Which is nothing I want. How can I print/echo the $bio on the screen just as text and not as HTML code? Thanks in advance!

• xerces serialization in Java 6

  In Java 6, the entire xerces XML parser/serializer implementation is now in the Java runtime (rt.jar). The packages have been moved under the com.sun.* namespace, which places them off-limits for explicit reference within client code. This is not a problem when using the parser, which is instantiated via javax API-defined factories. However, our code also uses xerces serialization (org.apache.xml.serialize.* ). AFAICT, there are no javax.xml API-defined factories for creating instances of Serializer and OutputFormat. This seems to imply that the only way to get one is to explicitly call the com.sun.org.apache.xml.serialize.* APIs. I've found the serialization classes in javax.xml.stream, but they don't seem to provide any output-formatting control like the xerces OutputFormat class. Question: Is there a way to access the xerces serialization functionality (which is in rt.jar) via a javax standard API, without including xerces.jar and also without explicitly instantiating com.sun.* classes? If not, is there an javax API-compliant way to achieve the same effect?

• Flatten (an irregular) list of lists in Python

  Yes, I know this subject has been covered before (here, here, here, here), but AFAIK, all solutions save one choke on a list like this: L = [[[1, 2, 3], [4, 5]], 6] where the desired output is [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] or perhaps even better, an iterator. The only solution I saw that works for an arbitrary nesting is from @Alabaster Codify here: def flatten(x): result = [] for el in x: if hasattr(el, "__iter__") and not isinstance(el, basestring): result.extend(flatten(el)) else: result.append(el) return result flatten(L) So to my question: is this the best model? Did I overlook something? Any problems?

• Cross platform unicode path handling

  I'm using boost::filesystem for cross-platform path manipulation, but this breaks down when calls need to be made down into interfaces I don't control that won't accept UTF-8. For example when using the Windows API, I need to convert to UTF-16, and then call the wide-string version of whatever function I was about to call, and then convert any output back to UTF-8. While the wpath, and other w* forms of many of the boost::filesystem functions help keep sanity, are there any suggestions for how best to handle this conversion to wide-string forms where needed, while maintaining consistency in my own code?
