• Use only some parts of Django?

  I like Django, but for a particular application I would like to use only parts of it, but I'm not familiar enough with how Django works on the inside, so maybe someone can point me into the right direction as to what I have to check out. Specifically, I want to use: The models and database abstraction The caching API, although I want to avoid database lookups by caching, not HTML generation, and since the caching framework in Django is intended for the latter, I'm not sure yet whether that's really appropriate. I would not use: Templating urlconfigs Or, more exactly, I'm neither using HTTP nor HTML. So basically, I have a different input / output chain than usual. Can this work? My personal killer feature in Django is the Object / database mapping that I can do with the models, so if there's another technology (doesn't have to be Python, I'm in the design phase and I'm pretty agnostic about languages and platforms) that gives me the same abilities, that would be great, too.

• How do you control what your C compiler Optimizes?

  I am writing the firmware for an embedded device in C using the Silicon Labs IDE and the SDCC compiler. The device architecture is based on the 8051 family. The function in question is shown below. The function is used to set the ports on my MCU to drive a stepper motor. It gets called in by an interrupt handler. The big switch statement just sets the ports to the proper value for the next motor step. The bottom part of the function looks at an input from a hall effect sensor and a number of steps moved in order to detect if the motor has stalled. The problem is, for some reason the second IF statement that looks like this if (StallDetector > (GapSize + 20)) { HandleStallEvent(); } always seems to get optimized out. If I try to put a breakpoint at the HandleStallEvent() call the IDE gives me a message saying "No Address Correlation to this line number". I am not really good enough at reading assembly to tell what it is doing but I have pasted a snippet from the asm output below. • Appengine not liking my .jspx files

  I have a little app that runs fine on local dev appengine, but appengine itself is not processing my .jspx files. The jspx files are in WEB-INF so they should not be excluded by appengine (as a static resource) I am using Apache Tiles to define my views. Essentially I am trying to take the first column of a csv file and parse it to a new file. Here is what I have tried so far: awk -F"," '{print $1}' in.csv > out.txt awk -F"," '{for (i=2;i<=NF;i++)}' in.csv > out.txt awk -F"," 'BEGIN { OFS="," }' '{print $1}' in.csv > out.txt cat in.csv | cut -d \, -f 1 > out.txt None seem to work, either they just print the first line or nothing at all, so I would assume it's failing to read line by line.

• Can't get expand_aliases to take effect

  I can't get expand_aliases to take effect in bash. I've tried a lot of different things, and nothing works. • How to limit a google calendar xml / rss feed by date range (not working!!)

  For the life of me I cannot get my google calendar xml feed to only display events within a certain date range. I know that start-min and start-max are supposed to limit the output (according to these posts: (links to posts deleted because I am a newbie and can only post one hyperlink argh) BUT I CAN'T GET IT TO WORK. It keeps showing lot of things outside the range. I created a sample calendar and made it public. It is some events the first week of april. Can anyone show me how to construct a request that only returns those three events from the first week in april? I'll GLADLY and GRATEFULLY paypal $10 to anyone who helps me break through on this. Now I'm looking to search for a given winner X in the table, and find out what position he is in, when the table is ordered by points. • How to debug a GWT application running on OSGi?

  I'm developing a web UI using GWT. While working only with the widgets I could debug from Eclipse using the Firefox extension, but now that I'm integrating the UI with other OSGi bundles I cannot use this solution. For deploying the GWT application I create the .war and convert it to an OSGi bundle using BND. Then I launch the OSGi container with all the bundles using Pax Runner and Pax Web and the application works correctly, but when something fails in the generated javascript code I don't have any decent output error or debugging facility. Is there any way to launch the GWT application in "debug mode" from OSGi? Any other idea that could help in this scenario?

  Hi, I'm trying to run mxmlc in the following manner. mxmlc -load-config+=mycfg.xml C:\\projects\\src\\main.mxml -output myswf.swf In the config file, I want to keep some values configurable, for example the paths of the external libraries. Is it possible to include a property file into the config file and use it as {property_name} in the config file? Or is it possible to pass certain arguments from the command line itself that will override/replace the corresponding values in the config file, like the -D option in the ant command? Please provide your suggestions.

  I am trying to embed binary blobs into an exe file. I am using mingw gcc. I make the object file like this: ld -r -b binary -o binary.o input.txt I then look objdump output to get the symbols: objdump -x binary.o And it gives symbols named: _binary_input_txt_start _binary_input_txt_end _binary_input_txt_size I then try and access them in my C program: #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdio.h> extern char _binary_input_txt_start[]; int main (int argc, char *argv[]) { char *p; p = _binary_input_txt_start; return 0; } Then I compile like this: gcc -o test.exe test.c binary.o But I always get: undefined reference to _binary_input_txt_start Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

• NSSortDescriptor for NSFetchRequest sorting unexpectedly

  My entity has a property (sortOrder) that is of the type Decimal(NSDecimalNumber) but when I execute a fetch request using that property as a key, I get back results in a seemingly random order. If I output the value of the property I get really strange values until I get it's intValue. Example: The first run produces this result. The first value is the raw value of the property.   Hello, I reading some old ScottGu's blogs on Linq2SQL. Now I'm doing the SPROC part. I'd like to know what's the exact meaning of @variable. But, in the example above, it looks like '@companyName' is used as a regular variable like in C# for instance (SELECT @companyName = ...). But, @companyName is not known yet. So, what the true nature a something preceded by a '@' like above? a vriable? a simple placeholder to accommodate user entered value? Thanks for helping

• How do I get the name of the newest file via the Terminal?

  I'm trying to create a macro for Keyboard Maestro for OS X doing the following: Get name of newest file in a directory on my disk based on date created; Paste the text "newest file: " plus the name of the newest file. One of its options is to "Execute a shell script", so I thought that would do it for 1. After Googling around a bit I came up with this: cd /path/to/directory/ ls -t | head -n1 This sorts it right, and returns the first filename. However, it also seems to includes a line break, which I do not want. As for 2: I can output the text "newest file: " with a different action in the app, and paste the filename behind that. But I'm wondering if you can't return "random text" + the outcome of the ls command. So my question is: can I do this only using the ls command? And how do I get just the name of the latest file without any linebreaks or returns?

• Accurate Timings with Oscilloscopes on PC

  In the world of embedded software (firmware) it is fairly common to observe the order of events, take timings and optimise a program by getting it to waggle PIO lines and capturing their behavior on an oscilloscope. In days gone by it was possible to toggle pins on the serial and parallel ports to achieve much the same thing on PC-based software. This made it possible to capture host PC-based software events and firmware events on the same trace and examine host software/firmware interactions. Now, my new laptop ... no serial or parallel ports! This is increasingly the case. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to go about emitting accurate timing signals off a "modern" PC? It strikes me that we don't have any immediately programmable, lag-free output pins left. The solution needs to run off a laptop, so using add-on cards that only plug into desktops are not permitted.

• Drupal Views pulling Data Fields

  I'm a little new to drupal but have been using things like devel module and theme developer to speed up the learning process. My question, is it possible to theme an entire views BLOCK from a single views tpl.php page OR even a preprocess? When I'm grabbing the $view object I can see results $node-result, it has all of the results, but it doesn't have all my views fields. I'm missing things like, node path, taxonomy titles and paths, etc. From my understanding, Drupal wants you to individually theme EACH output field. It seems rather superfluous to create so many extra templates when I've already got over HALF of my results coming through the $view object Would outputting node over field make this easier? Or am going in the wrong direction with $view-result? Thanks!

Is there any way to force transformer to use UTF-8 instead of entities?

  I have tried checking out the mDNSResponder source from Apple's SVN host, with the thought of compiling it and tweaking it. This failed miserably. • GnuPG Shell Script - Refuses to read password

  The script below used to work on Mac OS X, but, since moving it to Ubuntu, it doesn't seem to read from the password file at all. Even when I run it from the command line, no matter what I do, I get a popup prompt asking me for the password. As this will run via cron, I don't want this to happen... I want it to read the password from the file with no prompt. • Debugging 500 Internal Server Error on PHP running on IIS7 cluster

  Recently my ISP switched our website to an IIS7.0 high availibility cluster. The website is running on PHP5.2.1 and I can only upload files (so no registry tweaks). I had tested the website before and everything seemed to be working, but now the checkout page fails with: 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. As error messages go, this isn't very informative. I've tried: ini_set('display_errors', 1); ini_set('error_log', $file_php_can_write_to ); but both don't seem to do anything. Anyone know how to get better debugging output?
