• gwt seperate modules with no code sharing

  Hi, I have to make a web application using GWT. The project has a core module that'll expose a set of apis to be used by other apps; each of these app are unrelated. Each shall be loaded in a separate iframe. My idea was to compile core into core.js and each app shall have its own app1.js app2.js and so on... App1 script type="text/javascript" src="core.js" ></script> script type="text/javascript" src="app1.js" ></script> with this design, due to browser caching, each app laod only the app.js which should be smaller ~20kb in size. Making a core module is straightforward but the apps are problematic. The reason being after compilation, each app contains the entire GWT library - this substantially increases the download size of the complete webapp. Can anyone suggest a way to get aroung this problem ? I've checked similar questions on SO, but failed to find a simple working answer fr the problem. Thanks for any help.

• Firing through HTTP a Perl script for sending signals to daemons

  Hello guys, I'm using apache2 on Ubuntu. I have a Perl script which basically read the files names of a directory, then rewrites a text file, then sends a signal to a daemon. How can this be done, as secure as possible through a web-page? Actually I can run the code below, but not if I remove the comments. I'm looking for advise considering: Using HTTP Requests? How about Apache file permissions on the directory shown in code? Is htaccess enough to enable user/pass access to the cgi? Should I use a database instead of writing to a file and run a cron querying the db with permission granted to write and send the signal? Granting as less permissions as possible to the webserver. I was thinking about an interface, but I don't know how to implement this.   JSON is a nice way to pass complex data from my server side code to client side JavaScript. • WN server filter won't work

  WN servers have an alternative to cgi programs called filters. I have been trying to get one to work, but I have had no luck. I am writing in python. It looks like the server is not receiving any output from the program but is parsing nothing and wrapping this nothing in my standard header and footer. I have chmod 755 the program and my index.wn file reads: Default-Attributes=parse Default-Wrappers=templates/template1.inc File=includeTests.html File=index.html File=archives.html File=contact.html File=style.css File=testProgram.py #here is the stuff about the filter File=testFilter.html Content-type=text/html Filter=testProgram.py Attributes=parse, cgi here is what is in the filter called testProgram.py: #!/usr/bin/python print "Content-Type: text/html\n\n" print "hi" testProgram.py works perfectly if it is shoved into a cgi-bin folder and chmoded. I suppose my problem may lay with the fact that I have never ever seen a filter program in python. I'm not sure I have even seen a filter program at all. Does anyone out there have any experience with wn servers and filters? Any ideas?

• Best practice how to store HTML in a database column

  I have an application that modifies a table dynamically, think spreadsheet), then upon saving the form (which the table is part of) ,I store that changed table (with user modifications) in a database column named html_Spreadhseet,along with the rest of the form data. right now I'm just storing the html in a plain text format with basic escaping of characters... I'm aware that this could be stored as a separate file, the source table (html_workseeet) already is. But from a data handling perspective its easier to save the changed html table to and from a column so as to avoid having to come up with a file management strategy (which folder will this live in, now must include folder in backups, security issues now need to apply to files, how to sync db security with file system etc.), so to minimize these issues I'm only storing the ... part in the database column. My question is should I gzip the HTML , maybe use JSON, or some other format to easily store and retrieve the HTML from the database column, what is the best practice to store HTML content in a datbase? Or just store it as I currently am as an escaped text column?

  Hi... I am sending an Ajax Request using jQuery. What happens is that I am getting an "405 Method Not Allowed" Error. I am just posting a form, which would get the detail from the form and insert it into the DB. Just the usual stuff.I am using WEBrick that comes as default with the rails package.   Hi there, I am trying to bind a Listbox ItemSource to a collection of multiple Lists. i.e. List PersonCollection List Person List Collection Now I need to show items from both of these list. In wpf you could use HierarchicalDataTemplate i believe, but not sure how I can do it in windows phone 7.   Is there a way in HTML and/or CSS to do the following, but then correctly: √¯¯¯¯¯¯φ·(2π−γ) Such that there is an overbar above the expression, which neatly aligns with the &radic;? I know there is the Unicode &macr;, that looks like the overbar I need (as used in the above example, though as you can see – it doesn't align well with the root symbol). The solution I'm looking for works at least for one standard font, on most sizes, and all modern browsers. I can't use images; I'd like to have a pure HTML4/CSS way, without client scripting. Here is my current code, thank you Matthew Jones (+1) for the text-decoration: overline! Your task is to write a program that performs the Find/Replace operation. Your program will prompt the user for the word to be replaced (X), then the substitute word (Y ). Assume that the input document is named input.txt. You must write the result of this Find/Replace operation to a file named output.txt. Lastly, you cannot use the replace() string function built into Python (it would make the assignment much too easy). • Scroll view to bottom while keyboard is hiding

  Hi! I'm using a scroll view to move my view and show certain text fields (that otherwise would be hidden) when the keyboard shows. I basically resize the scroll view to make room for the keyboard, and then scroll up the view smoothly with "scrollRectToVisible", which works perfectly. After that, I can scroll and edit the rest of the text fields without lowering the keyboard, which is what I intend. The problem comes when I want to hide the keyboard again. I have been able to lower the keyboard and scroll down the view to its original position without a problem, but I have been unable to make that transition smooth. At the moment I use the following: - (void)keyboardWillHide: (NSNotification *)notif { CGRect topRect = CGRectMake(0, 0, 1, 1); [scrollview scrollRectToVisible:topRect animated:YES]; scrollview.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, scrollviewWidth, scrollviewHeight); } I create a CGRect at the top, which I then move into view with "scrollRectToVisible". That works fine and commences the scrolling right when the keyboard is hiding (I use "keyboardWillHide" and not "keyboardDidHide" because the scroll view frame is still missing its lower part). The problem comes when I resize the scroll view frame back to its original dimensions (which I need to do), because then the scrolling is interrupted and the view drops to the bottom suddenly (as there is nothing else to scroll). This causes a glitch, which is why I cannot complete the transition smoothly. Any ideas on how could I lower the keyboard while scrolling the view down smoothly? Should I be scrolling up a bigger view, instead of resizing it? That way I would not have to restore the scroll view frame dimensions when lowering the keyboard, or would I? • Initializing Disqus comments in hidden element causes issue in FF 14.0.1

  This issue appears only in Firefox 14.0.1 (well I couldn't reproduce it in any other browser). If you put the code for Disqus comments inside an element that is hidden and wait until everything is fully loaded and then display the element using JavaScript, the comment box nor comments will show up. However if you resize the window, it'll show up immediately. It's working fine in latest version of Google Chrome and Safari though. What's causing this and how to fix it? In my function I do the following: $(box_object.connectiondata_parent).each(function(it, obj){ if(typeof(obj[it]) != "undefined" && obj[it].linepoint == "top"){ var point_position_top = new Object(); point_position_top.left = startingpoint_left; point_position_top.top = startingpoint_top; obj[it].position = point_position_top; }else if(typeof(obj[it]) != "undefined" && obj[it].linepoint == "bottom"){ var point_position_bottom = new Object(); point_position_bottom.left = startingpoint_left; point_position_bottom.top = startingpoint_bottom; obj[it].position = point_position_bottom; }else{} }); After the function my box_object looks like this: ({ id:"3", text:"this is third box", connection_parent:["1", "2"], connection_child:["5", "6"], connectiondata_child:{ 0:{id:"5", linepoint:"bottom"}, 1:{id:"6", linepoint:"bottom"}}, connectiondata_parent:{ 0:{id:"1", linepoint:"top", position:{left:500, top:104}}, 1:{id:"2", linepoint:"top"}} }) It seems it only writes the values to the first "value". Any Ideas why?

  I've been working with Jquery fro a grand total of two hours now. Up until this point I have made this really simple FAQ page. <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $("#void").click(function(event) { event.preventDefault(); }); $('#faq').find('dd').hide().end().find('dt').click(function() { $(this).next().slideToggle(); }); }); </script> <dl id="faq"> <dt><a href="" id="void">Coffee</a></dt> <dd>- black hot drink</dd> <dt><a href="" id="void">Milk</a></dt> <dd>- white cold drink</dd> </dl> The problem is only the first item is working. My questions are, why is only the first entree working and how do I fix it? I've tried using an each() but I am unsure where to put it.

• Submit a form and get a JSON response with jQuery

  I expect this is easy, but I'm not finding a simple explanation anywhere of how to do this. I have a standard HTML form like this: <form name="new_post" action="process_form.json" method=POST> <label>Title:</label> <input id="post_title" name="post.title" type="text" /><br/> <label>Name:</label><br/> <input id="post_name" name="post.name" type="text" /><br/> <label>Content:</label><br/> <textarea cols="40" id="post_content" name="post.content" rows="20"></textarea> <input id="new_post_submit" type="submit" value="Create" /> </form> I'd like to have javascript (using jQuery) submit the form to the form's action (process_form.json), and receive a JSON response from the server. Then I'll have a javascript function that runs in response to the JSON response, like function form_success(json) { alert('Your form submission worked'); // process json response } How do I wire up the form submit button to call my form_success method when done? Also it should override the browser's own navigation, since I don't want to leave the page. Or should I move the button out of the form to do that?

• jQuery Suspected Naming Convention Problem

  Hi all, I'm having a problem with this jQuery function, the portion of the function that renames the id, class and name of the dropdown only works for the first dropdown, subsequent ones do not work, any ideas?
