• How to select all ActiveX objects in an area using a mouse in Excel?

  Because of this problem with ActiveX objects changing size, I am not grouping my ActiveX objects in my Excel worksheet. Grouping them causes my solution hack to not work which is quite annoying. However, I often times want to be able to essentially use the mouse and select a region and then select all ActiveX objects contained in the region. This would also be useful for easily selecting objects to group them initially. Basically: Use mouse to select area Automatically select all ActiveX components in region I'm fine with a VBA solution if needed. How can I do this?

• Where the does sender's name in an e-mail come from and how can I change what name I send?

  At work, we use Google Apps to host our e-mail and Outlook to access it. I have a user who recently changed their name. I changed their e-mail address and their account name, but when they send e-mail their old name still appears, no matter whether they send it using Outlook or the gmail web client. For example, e-mail from them in the Gmail web client reads Oldname [email protected] instead of Newname [email protected]. I'm trying to make the user's new name show up when they send an e-mail. Where is the sender's name stored? Is it a part of the e-mail specification, stored in some header somewhere, or is it stored in the e-mail client? If it's possible, how do you change the sender's name in Gmail?

  I have a spreadsheet with a large number of rows. There are two rows grouped together (for each customer). In column A, the first row has an account number. The second row should be blank. The spreadsheet has lots of customers listed where there is no second row. I need to insert a blank line to create a second row for each customer that doesn't have one.   I am trying to use Runtime exec() to run a vba script with arguements. I am having trouble passing in the args. I think I need to use the String[] overloaded method for exec. • Manage spreadsheet versioning

  We have a lot of VBA code in spreadsheets and a lot of time people save them to local drives. When we want to upgrade the spreadsheets we push a new version out to a shared drive but dont have any way of enforcing that people dont use the old versions of the spreadsheets. Is there some best practice here to deploy vba spreadsheets so if someone loads an old version it wont open or will ask you to upgrade. It seems like this must be an issue for any custom solution so i would have through MS would have some solution here. Does microsoft have a standard versioning / deployment solution for this or do i need to come up with some home grown solution (spreadsheet pings a database on startup to check version)

  Hi, When I open an excel file (generated through VBA code), I get an error "Excel found unreadable content in <filename>. Do you want to recover the contents?" Upon clicking yes, I get a message 'Repairs were made to PivotTable report 'pvtName' on '[filename.xls]Tab'.' The pivot table in question is generated by the VBA code. Is there a way to figure out what repairs are being done on the pivot table, so that I can make the necessary changes in the code before the file is generated? Thanks :)

• Problems getting PowerPoint Combobox to list items correctly

  I am creating a PowerPoint in which I want users to be able to select an item from a list in a combo box. Nothing needs to happen after this, it is just to provide a record, on screen, of their choice. My problem is that I seem to either be able to populate the combo box and users can select an item but the list gets longer each time the combobox is clicked on (i.e each time it is clicked on the list gets duplicated). Or alternatively, I can clear the combo box, then populate it but in this scenario, the users choice also seems to get cleared. • Ideas for storing e-mail messages in a Delphi client server application

  There are many suggestions here and there for storing e-mail messages. Somehow what I am doing is writing an Outlook addin to send emails from inbox/sent folders directly to my application. So only what is really interesting is saved. And I decide where to save it. Imagine this case: I recieve an email from a customer. It's up to me to decide whether I should save it on the customer or on the order 24 that that customer did. So this is why I am doing the add in, and not some automatic storing of emails = noise after some time. This said, how to store the emails? For the emails that I recieve or send through Outlook the idea could be save the whole file in a blob field (so the eml file), may be I can save also other info (like the subject) in another text field. But the problem comes when I write an email from my application. In this case I am not generating an eml file, I send through MAPI data to Outlook to compose an email that I will send with Outlook (so in this case I cannot save the eml), or I directly send it with Indy. Also in this case I don't have the eml file... One idea could be that the all the emails that I auto compose have a special flag that the Add in recognises and therefore when I send the mail it is stored back to the DB. So in this case I can save the eml also of the mails I sent from my application. May you comment?

Instead of advancing the slide, the animation moves to the completed state ... Forcing a second click to actually advance the slide. Additionally If I have other animations on the slide that are initiated by a click, the long animation also advances to a finished state before starting the new animation. Desired Behavior On click, I want the slide to advance or the next on-click animation to start whether the long animation is done or not, and without having that long animation first "complete" itself. In the case of another animation, I simply want the long animation to continue, while also doing the new animation. Ultimate Question Is there a way to either: Set an option somewhere to not have that animation complete on click and simply "continue" to animate with the start of a new animation or to advance the slide (as the case may be)? Create a VBA script that will produce the desired behavior for the long animation?

I want to get a random sample from rows. There are 2 conditions: 1. Sampling must be based on "NO" column. 2. Size of the sample is determined by the user: it can be %5, %10 or %20. For example, one decides to randomly choose %20 of total rows in the above example: The result is like: NO NAME AMOUNT 2 A 100 2 C 100 90 Z 500 90 E 500 . . . . There should be 2,000 rows. I don't know whether my question is too specific. I am new to Excel VBA, and I faced a situation like this. Above process is about getting a random sample from an account ledger for auditing purposes.

• Outlook 2007 GAL Phone List

  I just spent a lot of time populating Phone Numbers and Fax Numbers in our GAL/Active Directory. The goal of which was to replace our static *.xlsx file that we use as a corporate phone directory. I know I can see the GAL by clicking on the To... button, and I can see more specific info for a particular user, by adding them as a recipient and double-clicking their name in the To: field. Is there any way (inside Outlook) to have a laundry-list view of all users and phone/fax/mobile/address similar to the phone list view for contacts? Are there any other tools that might provide this functionality. I've used a GAL web interface before, but that cost $ and as I recall was challenging to manage.

• Pivot table not refreshing sort order

  I have Pivot Table that get its data source from another sheet, same workbook. I want the sort order of data is same as the data source order, I choose "Sort in data source order" in Pivot Table option. The problem is, when I change the data order on data source worksheet, then I refresh the Pivot Table, the sort order didn't change. I googled that the Pivot Table should be unlink first then re-link again in order to work properly, so I tried the following: The original data source has named range: origdata. The fake data source has names range: dummydata I changed manually data source to dummydata then changed back to origdata. The sort order did change as expected. Now I want to make the operation automated, so I'm using this code in Worksheet.activate event. Note that, PT is PivotTable instance. ... PT.SourceData = "dummydata" PT.RefreshTable PT.SourceData = "origdata" PT.RefreshTable ... Change data source from VBA didn't change the sort order just like I did with manual method. Why is that? Am I missing something? Maybe there are some routine called when I changed the data source manually via toolbar button? Thanks in advance for your help.

• Outlook.com Sweep rule vs Filter rule

  New outlook.com introduced new sweep option. With it, you can create a filter to move messages from particular sender to a particular folder after certain days the mail comes. This rules gets added to the Filter list. However we cannot edit this rule by clicking Edit in front of it in that list. The dialog appears saying you should delete the rule and create the new one. I don't understand why sweep rules are considered differently from Filter rules? I have 68 filter rules. What if I want to add such time clause to these filter rules so that instead of moving the incoming mails immediately to a certain folder, they will be kept in Inbox for say 10 days and then they will be moved. Such time clause cannot be added to the filter rules. So should I delete all these 68 filters and create new Sweep rules?

• Mail sent from local Postfix marked as "possible phishing" in Outlook

  Hi folks, Sorry for the newbie question--this is not my area of expertise by a long shot. I work at a small development shop and we finally got around to doing code reviews. (Yay!) I set up an instance of Review Board -- an open-source code review tool -- on one of our local servers but it doesn't seem to like talking to our hosted Exchange server to send notification emails. I decided to just install Postfix on that same box and send mail from localhost, which is working much more reliably, but Outlook disables all links in the email announcements and marks it as possible phishing. What is making these emails look suspicious and what can I change? Would the best thing be to figure out how to relay to Exchange from Postfix? Thanks!

• OOF (Out of Office) is not working for remote users (Outlook Anywhere)

  I'm not sure how long this issue has been happening, but recently a few of the remote sales users were going to a sales meeting and wanted to set their Out of Office... however in Outlook 2010, they get this error message: "Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable" When I run the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer, Autodiscover completes fine, but the next step fails: Exception details: Message: The request failed. The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.   I tried the code provided by vba express for combining sheet, while execution it is displaying Run Time error 1004: Application Defined or Object Defined Error: My Scenario is: I have a Excel, in that I have first sheet "Connection" and after it I have Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on.
