• Prevent redirect loop in mod_rewrite

  I'm writing a rule in my htaccess that basically says this: If the request is for the homepage And a cookie has not been set Rewrite the page with /addCookie.php Then in addCookie.php, we set the cookie and redirect back to the homepage. This is all fine, but if the user doesn't accept cookies, we get an infinite loop of redirects. I'm new to mod_rewrite, I've done a lot of searching, but can't break the loop. I have this so far: RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} 200 RewriteRule .* - [S=1] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} "^/$" RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !device_detected RewriteRule ^ addCookie.php [L] Is what I'm trying to do possible? I could add a query string on the redirect from addCookie.php, but I'd much rather keep the requests identical. Any suggestions kindly welcome.

• Help replacing old Windows 2003 SBS DC with a Win2008 Standard Edition DC

  Objective: Trying to replace a Windows 2003 SBS domain controller with a windows server 2008 Standard Edition Domain Controller. What I did: used ADPREP. Then all user accounts and OUs are successfully replicated into the 2008 server. I have also managed to transfer all the DC roles (operations master,schema,pdc) into the Server 2008. I have also used NETDOM QUERY FSMO . It displayed that all the roles transferred to the 2008 server. Problem: When I am trying to demote the windows 2003 SBS server using DCPROMO, the message is “No other Active Directory for this domain can be contacted”. I also tried shutting down the 2003 server. Users can login into the domain but they have trouble finding SHARED folders. Can someone help me find out what I did wrong ? Need a little push in the right direction here. Thank you very much ?

• XNA Easy Storage XBOX 360 High Scores

  To followup from a previous query - I need some help with the implementation of easystorage high scores, which is bringing up some errors on the xbox. I get the prompt screen, a savedevice is selected and a file are all created! However the file remains empty, (I've tried prepopulating but still get errors). • Bitmask data insertions in SSDT Post-Deployment scripts

  On my current project we are using SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) to manage our database schema and one of the tasks we need to do often is insert data into that schema once deployed; the typical method employed to do this is to leverage Post-Deployment scripts and that is exactly what we are doing. Our requirement is a little different though, our data is split up into various buckets that we need to selectively deploy on a case-by-case basis. I was going to use a SQLCMD variable for each bucket (defaulted to some value other than “Yes”) to define whether it should be deployed or not so we could use something like this in our Post-Deployment script: IF ($(DeployBucket1Flag) = 'Yes')BEGIN   :r .\Bucket1.data.sqlENDIF ($(DeployBucket2Flag) = 'Yes')BEGIN   :r .\Bucket2.data.sqlENDIF ($(DeployBucket3Flag) = 'Yes')BEGIN   :r .\Bucket3.data.sqlEND That works fine and is, I’m sure, a very common technique for doing this. It is however slightly ugly because we have to litter our deployment with various SQLCMD variables. My colleague James Rowland-Jones (whom I’m sure many of you know) suggested another technique – bitmasks. I won’t go into detail about how this works (James has already done that at Using a Bitmask - a practical example) but I’ll summarise by saying that you can deploy different combinations of the buckets simply by supplying a different numerical value for a single SQLCMD variable. Each bit of that value’s binary representation signifies whether a particular bucket should be deployed or not. This is better demonstrated using the following simple script (which can be easily leveraged inside your Post-Deployment scripts): /* $(DeployData) is a SQLCMD variable that would, if you were using this in SSDT, be declared in the SQLCMD variables section of your project file. It should contain a numerical value, defaulted to 0. In this example I have declared it using a :setvar statement. Test the affect of different values by changing the :setvar statement accordingly. • Debian modem problem

  I'm a new Debian user, it looks like a very good choice 4 me, every thing is stable, free and easy to use. The problem is, I'm using my modem to establish a dial up connection to the internet (ppp) (a very old stupid way I'm forced to use for now), and using the KPPP application to do that, and nothing is working properly for me. it seems like it didn't recognize my modem or something. I already tried to make a few stuff, and now i know my modem is on /dev/tty0, so i made a link for that on /dev/modem, and query the modem using KPPP and it responded with something like: Ati : Ati0: Ati1: ... ... Ati7: with a textBox to fill up in front of each one of thees Atis, and now, when i press connect on kppp, it says modem ready, and that's it. BTW, my modem is MDC AC'97

• Guestfish not found on Debian 7 when execute virt-copy-in [on hold]

  When I execute virt-copy-in command on a kvm host(Debian7.1), I got error saying "guestfish not found". However according to the dpkg comamnd, guestfish do have been installed: john@sver:~$ dpkg-query -l | grep guestfs* ii libguestfs-perl ... ii libguestfs-tools ... ii libguestfs0 ... What's the problem? Is the libguestfs-tools not the guestfish in Debian? Or it's just a broken dependency in libguestfs-tools in Debian7.1(my KVM Host)?

  What is the exact point of using external database system if I have simple relations (95% querries are dependant on ID). I am storing users and their stats. Why would I use external database if I can have neat constructions like: db.users[32] = something Array of 500K users is not that big effort for RAM Pros are: no problematic asynchronity (instant results) easy export/import dealing with database like with a native object LITERALLY ps. and considerations: Would it be faster or slower to do collection[3] than db.query("select ... I am going to store it as a file/s There is only ONE application/process accessing this data, and the code is executed line by line - please don't elaborate about locking. Please don't answer with database propositions but why to use external DB over native array/object - I have experience in a few databases - that's not the case. What I am building is a client/gateway/server(s) game. Gateway deals with all users data, processing, authenticating, writing statistics e.t.c No other part of software needs to access directly to this data/database.

• SetEnvIf regex for setting Content-Disposition HTTP header

  I am attempting to use the IHS 7.0/apache 2.2 SetEnvIf directive to set the filename of a downloaded file based on a url parameter. I think I am pretty close, however if there is a space (encoded or otherwise) in the filename - it fails. example url: http://site.com/path/to/filename.ext/file-title=Nice File Name.ext?file-type=foo apache config: SetEnvIf Request_URI "^.*file-title\=(.*)\??.*$" FILENAME=$1 Header unset "Content-Disposition" Header add "Content-Disposition" "attachment; filename=%{FILENAME}e" UnsetEnv FILENAME An application will specify what is now showing up as "Nice File Title.ext" in the example. This all works great if there are no spaces, however - if there is a space the filename to download will just show up as "Nice". There may or may not be a second set of parameters in the query string (?file-type, etc)

• Something eating space on OS drive

  I am facing low disk space issue from last few days. I checked with Restore,System Volume Information, $Recycled folders. But there is nothing which is occupying space. I had scanned my system for virus too. Total size of C: is 18 GB. But when I select all folders inside C: and query for used space, it shows 20+ gb space is used. I vacate space some how by deleting temp files, program's cache files, disk clean up etc up to (3 gb). And I ensured that no cache/temp files are recreated who can use the space again. Even after cleaning so much data, I am again facing low disk space issue. Something is eating disk space within 15-20 mins.

  If you've been using SQL Server for a long time, you may have been used to using the OBJECT_NAME system function in the past - especially useful when converting table IDs into table names when querying sysobjects and sysindexes..... However, if you're an old-school DBA  - did you know since SQL 2005 service pack 2 it  accepts a  second parameter ? database_id.. For example, this can be used to summarize some useful information from sys.dm_exec_query_stats. • nsclient++ intermittent connection refused on same subnet

  I have setup Nagios and nsclient++ on a number of my Windows servers. They are all in the same subnet so no routing or firewall stuff is taking place in between the endpoints, and I have verified that the firewalls on the servers are not causing trouble. The problem is that the scheduled checks sometimes fail with "connection refused" and sometimes work! It is a frustrating problem to resolve because I do not know what to look for. One place I did look is in the nsclient++ logs, where I am seeing this recurring error: ...\trunk\modules\CheckSystem\PDHCollector.cpp:148: Failed to query performance counters: \238... This sounds promising, but I couldn't find much on Google about this error as it pertains to NSClient++

• Fun with upgrading and BCP

  I just had trouble with using BCP out via xp_cmdshell. Probably serves me right but that's a different issue. I got a strange error message 'Unable to resolve column level collations' which turned out to be a bit misleading. I wasted some time comparing the collations of the the server, the database and all the columns in the query. I got so desperate that I even read the Books Online article. Still no joy but then I tried the interweb. It turns out that calling bcp without qualifying it with a path causes Windows to search the folders listed in the Path environment variable - in that order - and execute the first version of BCP it can find. But when you do an in-place version upgrade, the new paths are added on the end of the Path variable so you don't get the latest version of BCP by default. To check which version you're getting execute bcp -v at the command line. The version number will correspond to SQL Server version numbering (eg. 10.50.n = 2008 R2). To examine and/or edit the Path variable, right-click on My Computer, select Properties, go to the Advanced tab and click on the Environment Variables button. • Can't reconnect to my RDP session

  I use a VM through RDP. When I'm done for the day, I just disconnect the session and reconnect in the morning. That allows me to pick up what I was doing and not close all the applications. As I'm the only user, this generally works well. Today, I can't reconnect to my session from yesterday. When I RDP, I get a new session. When I run query user, I can see my other session: USERNAME SESSIONNAME ID STATE IDLE TIME LOGON TIME me rdp-tcp#82 1 Active 15:00 4/22/2010 9:00 AM me rdp-tcp#91 2 Active . 4/30/2010 9:00 AM If I try to use Terminal Services Manager to remote control the other session, I get this error: Session (ID 1) remote control failed (Error 7044 - The request to control another session remotely was denied. ) Is there any way to reconnect to this session, or do I need to just kill it?

  Warning: I am no expert on building scripts, and sorry for lousy English. In an case of generating a CSV from a database query I'm using the following commands. ... I'm using windows implementation of grep. The 2%LOGFILE% in both java and grep command is causing an error message indicating the file is being use by another process. The Ugly workaround i have came up with is to put grep error redirect to a temporary %LOGFILE%.aux java ... | grep ... 2%LOGFILE%.aux type %LOGFILE%.aux % %LOGFILE% del %LOGFILE%.aux What is a better solution?

• Firefox 4 crashing in VNC

  On my desktop PC I've been using Kubuntu 10.04 for about a year. Recently I've updated Firefox to version 4 using aptitude and the mozilla-team/firefox-stable repository. Since then, I can't run it when I'm logged in through a VNC session. Firefox crashes immediately: when I try to run it from the console I get this error: ###!!! Firefox 3.x worked fine also from a VNC session. I tried to turn off the hardware acceleration from the Firefox preferences, but that doesn't fix the problem. firefox --sync, firefox -safe-mode and firefox -ProfileManager also crash the same way. Any idea how to troubleshoot this? Thanks. Edit: additional info. • Is an ACPI GPE storm normal in an Ubuntu session?

  In a previous question (What is a an ACPI GPE storm?), I asked about ACPI GPE storm. Looking closer to my kern.log file in /var/log/, I notice that in every session at some point (usually withing 20' after startup) a GPE storm is triggered. When I open kern.log immediately after startup, I see that the 'GPE-storm' can be triggered by anything (a copy-action, the opening of an app like Firefox or Thunderbird, etc...). This worries me. Looking for other ACPI related events in kern.log, I find these error messages. • MySQL Linked Server and SQL Server 2008 Express Performance

  Hi All, I am currently trying to setup a MySQL Linked Server via SQL Server 2008 Express. I have tried two methods, creating a DSN using the mySQL 5.1 ODBC driver, and using Cherry Software OLE DB Driver as well. The method that I prefer would be using the ODBC driver, but both run horrendously slow (doing one simple join takes about 5 min). Is there any way I can get better performance? We are trying to cross query between multiple mySQL databases on different servers, and this seems to be method we think would work well. Any comments, suggestions, etc... would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Jeffrey

• Where did ULSTraceLog go to in the SharePoint 2010 Logging Database?

  The Logging Database is one of the many new concepts that will make the life of many SharePoint administrators quite a bit more enjoyable. In SharePoint 2007 the Unified Logging System (ULS) logged all of its data to text files, typically found on your SharePoint server in 12\LOGS. We still have that in SharePoint 2010, but besides those text files, ULS can also write the data to a database! The advantages are obvious: easy to query, one central location for all servers in the farm, easy to build reports etc. You can find this ULS data in the SharePoint 2010 logging database (typically called WSS_Logging), in the view ULSTraceLog. Quite recently on one of my demo machines (standalone installation on Windows 7) I noticed the ULSTraceLog view was not available in the logging database. It turned out that there is a Timer Job that’s responsible for writing the data to the database, when the Timer Job hasn’t executed, the view is not there (the first time it executes, the view is created). Even more, the timer job was disabled, so the view would never be created, nor any data would be written to the database. If you encounter this situation as well, it’s quite easy to solve: Open the SharePoint Central Administration site Navigate to the Monitoring section Select Review Job Definitions Click on the job with the name Diagnostic Data Provider: Trace Log Click on the Enable button to enable it Optionally click on Run Now afterwards, to start it immediately There you go, the ULSTraceLog will be created and the ULS messages will appear in the database!

• Vista locks up after ~10h. of activity

  Hi everybody, I am experiencing a problem: Windows Vista completely freezes/locks up lately... It happened today twice - the mouse and keyboard stopped responding and I had to re-boot. I checked the Application Events Log and I see these two errors: Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected. and then The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: SASDIFSV SASKUTIL I checked Help online and it points to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756390%28WS.10%29.aspx and suggests Updating the drivers. I'm not sure why would I have problem with drivers and if so, how can I find out which drivers to update? Can you please help me? Thanks in advance.
