• How do you host images using Windows Server so that they are accessible over the internet? [closed]

  I was trying to figure out a way to host images (picture images, not disk images) such that they are accessible over the internet via URLs--in a way similar to a web service like Photobucket or ImageShack. I have a whole bunch of Windows Servers (Windows Server 2008 R2) available in the cloud. Instead of hosting images using Photobucket or ImageShack, I wanted to host this images directly on my own Windows cloud. This could be really complicated or really simple. I have no idea, as I know very little about IIS 6 (which is what I am using) or web servers. If this is too broad of a question (as there are probably multiple ways of implementing this), is there at least some guide or documentation of how someone else has setup image hosting? Perhaps a step-by-step guide of at least one way to do it?

• Windows Server 2003 R2 SIS Groveler start error

  Hi I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 running and I need to have a WDS with mixed mode so I can deploy Windows 7 & Windows XP images. I went to setup the first image and after the wizard was done copying the correct files I got: Single Instance Storage Groveler: Service did not start (or something like that). I checked event viewer and got this: Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7023 Date: 3/26/2012 Time: 7:03:21 PM User: N/A Computer: SERVER2 Description: The Single Instance Storage Groveler service terminated with the following error: The service has not been started. This server is needed very soon because we just got a shipment of several Windows XP capable laptops and need to deploy Windows XP over PXE and this is keeping us from proceeding. Any help is great!!!

• IIS 7.5 401.3 Access Denied

  I am having this weird issue with IIS 7.5 on Windows 2008 R2 x64. I created a site in IIS and manually created a test file index.html and everything worked. When I try to do a deployment, I copy all the files from my local PC to the IIS server, try to access index.html (this is the proper deployed file) and getting 401.3 access denied error. I then try to manually recreate index.html and copy content into this newly created file and the page is accessible again... I just can't figure this out. So the issue is that IIS 7.5 can't server files that have been copied from other PCs. I tried to reset/apply permission settings to the copied folders/files but nothing has worked. Please help. Thanks! By the way, the files that I copied are just some html cutups i.e. generic html, css and image files, nothing special.

• how to recover data from my disk - I accidentally copied with dd an iso on it

  I wanted to create a bootable usb from an iso image and i accidentally put as the output of the dd, instead of my usb drive, one of my hard disks. The iso was 3,3 GB and my disk is 1TB! And it was almost full. Can i at least restore the data that has not been overwritten? Right now i can't even mount it. • Restoring raid 5 array after bios flash

  I have just flashed my BIOS and now my machine does not detect my raid5 array! It has three 2TB drives in it so that is a LOT of data that will be lost! I have NOT deleted the array and it does not offer me to reboot I'm using Nvidia MediaShield! and Windows 7. Any ideas guys? Thanks! Update: here is the GUI raid configuration. • How Do I Get To Preferences In FireFox

  I'm currently trying to get to preferences in FireFox in Linux Ubuntu. Because I don't have 10 reputation, I can't post an image (otherwise I would). All I see in the browser is the Address Bar, Downloads and Home. If I right-click (or left click) on any of these, I don't have further options (other than Home, but it only allows me to add items to the toolbar, none of which are Preferences/Options/Etc). I tried vising a website to see if more options would open; nothing. I tried right clicking on the main page and each toolbar item (listed) to see if there was another options like "Preferences" or "Options"; nothing. I tried entering "Preferences" in the address bar, thinking maybe it would open automatically; nothing. I tried right clicking on FireFox on the Linux Menu to see if I could open options without opening the program (and tried this even when the program was open); nothing.

  I have a desktop PC which I built a while back. It has an Athlon XP 2500+, 2.5GB RAM, and an Nvidia (PNY Verto) Geforce 6200. I removed the CD drive to add another hard drive so I install from a USB flash drive. When I try to install 12.04 it seems to work just fine. The GUI boots up and wifi even connects to my router. I go through the language screen, the partition screen, the keyboard screen, the location screen, and the import my Windows settings screen just fine. But as soon as I'm done with all that the next screen goes black and displays this message: drm:[drm_crtc_helper_set_config] *ERROR* failed to set mode on [CRTC6] Since the GUI starts just fine earlier during the install, I know I shouldn't be having any display problems, but I am. How do I get Ubuntu to install properly? I have four IDE hard drives, all Western Digital: a 250GB, a 160GB, a 40GB occupied by Windows XP, and a 120GB that I'm trying to use for Ubuntu. 3GB of the 120GB drive are formatted for swap.   I am looking a way to establish dev machine on the cloud. I want to have access for development from different places. I don't want to play with sync brunch and so on. It would be Lubuntu with 1G or 512M memory and I want to have way to setup my image. What I have found in the current moment: Amazon EC2 service Azure Virtual Machines I am pretty sure that there should be more services like this. I hope to find one specified for this purpose. I have experience to work in such way and I like it. Unfortunately it was server of certain company for projects of this company and I can't use it for my private aims. Could anybody suggest me anything?

• Dialog boxes font is missing in Windows 7

  About 3 years ago I messed up my laptop with some virus removal software. It's obviously changed the registry settings and the text in dialogue boxes in the control panel, run box, etc. is the wrong size. See image:http://i.stack.imgur.com/SlFFU.jpg I've tried changing the MS Shell Dlg registry values to different fonts and restarting. I've made sure that I have the fonts SSERIFE.FON and SERIFE.FON on my system and that they are correctly referenced in the registry. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'd like to be able to see all of the options in the dialog boxes! Cheers

• How to recover logical volume deleted with lvremove

  I am on CentOS 5.5 and am running Xen. I have a large volume group that I create logical volumes on using lvcreate. Today I had a customer cancel her account, then change her mind about an hour later. Unfortunately I had already removed the LVM her Xen image resided on. (just using a standard lvremove ). There has been no other LVM activity on this disk since then (nothing else added or deleted). Is it possible to "undo" a lvremove, or recover logical volume? If so, how would I go about it?

• The letter 'W' gets rendered oddly

  It seems that with this particular font (it's one of the Ubuntu fonts; I can't tell which one exactly because Chrome's debugger doesn't tell me which font-family won the CSS battle) the letter 'W' (both cases), at the default zoom level and typically with smaller sizes, will render very oddly: (open the image in a new tab) The right-hand side of the letter is totally wrong. Changing the zoom levels will mitigate (but not eliminate) the issue. Does anyone know how to fix this? It doesn't happen on Firefox or IE so I assume it's not an issue with the font itself.

• Why does Chrome show overlapping text?

  In Chrome, news articles at: http://www.theprovince.com with a leading photo and caption show the caption text overlapped with the body text. I have an image but as a new user here I'm not allowed to upload it. It happens at that site almost always, here's an example from today: http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Canucks+Blackhawks+collision+Titanic+proportions/5721421/story.html It rarely happens elsewhere. The same link works fine in Internet Explorer so I'm guessing it's a Chrome issue. It's been like this for many months, I read the site almost everyday. I click on "Print this Article" to get a proper look at it, but it's annoying, hope someone has the answer. Thanks in advance.

• Can someone please explain these Network Activity entries are? (resource monitor windows 7)

  The first one is the address microsoftword.com.br. What is this? I noticed when I connected windows to the internet briefly, and it went away soon after. when I typed the address into my tablet, it redirected to bing with the search "microsoftword com" with MSSRPD at the end of the address. The other unknowns seemed to appear when my brothers laptop was connected to the network. Is that normal? Usually if I disconnected and reconnected they would appear, but I noticed when I had disconnected and reconnected to try it didn't happen as he wasn't connected. I'm concerned about the microsoftword one is. Is it legitimate? The svchost that associated with is a legit svchost image.

• Replacement for Picasa [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What is the best alternative to Picasa? I use Picasa not because it is a great photo manager -- it's not, the manager is "sort of OK" for my taste. However, it combines a passable photo manager with a good "quick and dirty" image editor. It has the basic functions like cropping, resizing, contrast and color adjustment, and the one great feature -- "I'm feeling lucky" button, that works in 90% of the cases. Also, from time to time, I use one or two of the effects (like saturation or sharpening). GIMP is great and I use it on a regular basis, but in most cases I just want to go quickly through the photographs of my kids birthday and make them more presentable without much fuss. I'm looking for a native, open source replacement, something that would not miss the editing capabilities of Picasa and would allow me to quickly go through a collection of photographs and make basic edits. A function similar to "I'm feeling lucky" (automatic adjustment of contrast, color and brightness) would be most welcome. EDIT: Yes, I have already tried a number of alternatives, if it is necessary I can produce a detailed list here, along with the problems I found. I'm posting that question because I hope to see a new name.

• Apache 406 error with JPEGCam

  We have recently migrated our website to a new server, and JPEGCam is now reporting a 406 (Not Acceptable) error when trying to upload the image from the SWF to the server. I know that it isn't supported any more by the developer, but I wondered if anyone has encountered this problem before. I suspected the issue was with the Mod_Security module in Apache (i.e. not whitelisting Shockwave Flash), but the server admins have also drawn a blank. The request is being sent as a POST method, and returns a 406 error, but according to the Apache logs, it is returning a 404 error. I wondered if anyone has encountered this problem before, or knows of a 'simple' fix. Everything was working on our Xampp flavour dev server, so I am 100% certain this is an Apache issue. Also, when trying to access the requested page directly in the web browser, everything gets served up without a problem...

  Hello all. I have just inherited a network at my work- 1 primary server and about 65 computers running XP. All machines have Gigabit ethernet cards and all are connected through Gigabit switches and cat. 6 cables. The workstations send large numbers of image files to the server where they are held until they need to go to a printer. And I'm talking Gigs of files. We get a network slowdown when large number of files are coming from the workstations at the same time large numbers are also going the the printers. All machines have to be on the same subnet because of some proprietary software. Is there anything I can do to lessen this logjam? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Tiles in Windows 8 are disappearing

  I've just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 8 on a Dell Latitude D820, which went fine. But, after installing a new driver for the video card, the Start Screen is not working anymore. As soon the mouse touches a tile, they all disappear and I'm left with only the background image. I can go to the desktop by hitting Win+D and if I hit the Win key after some minutes the tiles are there again only to disappear as soon the mousepointer touches them. How do I fix this?

• Help with selecting objects on a map

  I have a object selection function by checking the mouse click and getting the relevant object. How ever there is a rare situation where if one object is partially behind the other then both objects are in the given area so im wondering how i can make the game know which one was selected, as currently my method does not know. • How to ignore hard drives size with Windows Server Backup (Win-2008) restore?

  I used Windows Server Backup to backup my 640GB boot drive. Only about 30GB is used, and the backup was very fast. Now I am trying to restore the image to a 500GB hard drive but it is saying that the drive is too small... even though I only had 30GB on the original backup. How do I overide this and have the restore ignore that I only have a 500GB drive? If I can't, then I can't restore the hard drive with anything except one that is equal to or bigger than the original hard drive - which would be a real bummer.

• Java single Array best choice for accessing pixels for manipulation?

  I am just watching this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwUnMy_pR6A and the guy (who seems to be pretty competent) is using a single array to store and access the pixels of his to-be-rendered image. I was wondering if this really is the best way to do this. The alternative of Multi-Array does have one pointer more, but Arrays do have an O(1) for accessing each index and calculating the index in a single array seems to take one addition and one multiplication operation per pixel. And if Multi-Arrays really are bad, can't you use something with Hashing to avoid those addition and multiplication operations? • Large OSX 10.6 to Windows 7 smb transfers fail?

  I'm connecting to a windows 7 box from a OSX 10.6 box via smb: smb://ftp1 Connection works fine, I can transfer individual files one at a time, but as soon as I try and move an entier folder I get the following error: The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “test” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36) This error happens on all our OSX boxes when trying to push the entier folder to the Win7 box. The folder TEST in the above error message has -R 777 permissions. I can move every image file to the windows box one by one with no errors. But if I try an move the entier folder. bam error out. This error seems to kill the smb client on the Windows box as well. There's an FTP server on the windows box and I can FTP in from the OSX box and move everything just fine. Not sure what is going on here?

• Is it normal for GRUB to take some time (15+s) after I choose what to boot?

  I had been planning to change the background of my bootloader for a while, and finally got to it. Now the black screen I get for quite some time was made clear. It is still GRUB, because the background image stays, while all of the text is gone. Then it just simply shows the Lubuntu loading screen for, usually, not more than 3 seconds. I run Lubuntu 12.10. My question is, is this normal behaviour or is something going wrong, causing GRUB to take longer?   I have a website, and I want to host it on my own computer, but I'm wondering if it's good enough. The website checks if the user is logged in and then displays 15 items (title, description) from a mysql database and the rating (stored in another database) and the comments (another database) for each item. It also displays some stats (number of items, comments). I also have an image for each item. My specs are: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.90 GHz RAM: 4.00GB Windows 7 64bit So what do you think, how much visitors and items could it handle (at once or daily) ? My internet connection is good, around 7-10 mb upload and same download speed

• Is is better to combine Apache for file manipulation and upload and Nginx for static file serving, or to use one of the two alone

  Based on my research, I've read that nginx is best and ideal for serving up static files and images. My application depends heavily on uploading of images and rewriting them, then serving them up. Given that I only have one VPS currently, it has been suggested that I use nginx to serve up the images and website, and reverse proxy to Apache (on the same VPS) to rewrite files with image magick and handle the file uploads. Which would be the best solution, Apache, Nginx, or Apache + Nginx? In terms of best solution, I'm looking at minimal average RAM consumption, while maintaining decent load speed of maybe sub 2 seconds?

• Batch print, reprint and scan

  I am using ubuntu 13.10 with Epson wireless scanner/printer/fax WF 2540(It has an automatic document feeder- ADF). What I am trying to achieve is to be able to print with confidence over already populated A4 pages(hand drawn or otherwise). The idea is to get a batch of A4 pages grouped in a particular order and have them batch printed on specific parts of each page ,viewed on screen and edit/processed page by page. My idea was to batch scan the documents in order and display each scanned page to use that to judge/fit on-screen the coordinates for the output of each pages image... Are there any other better printers that can automatically scan and print at the document that is being scanned...with an accurate positioning in relation to elements already printed on the page?? Are there any other forums I should be asking and looking for answer/suggestions on my case/dilema??
