• Linux/Apache performance very slow even on local network

  I have an Ubuntu server machine running Apache and MYSQL. System and version info is as follows: Linux kernel 3.0.0.-12 Apache/2.2.20 MySQL Ver 14.14.Distrib 5.1.58 I am running a few websites on this server, some HTML only, some PHP/MySQL. THe [problem is that response time is very slow, both on static as well as the dynamic sites. Sometimes it takes more than 10 seconds before a response is given, this makes the sites very slow and almost unusable. The problem occurs even when requesting from the local network. I have added the involved subdomains to my /etc/hosts file, and abolve all the problem is not solved by using IP numbers instead of URL's. So there is no DNS lookup issue. I have modified the log format by showing the response times and sometimes a files takes 12 seconds to be served, see the jquery~.js file in the example screenshot. I have no explanation for this extremely long response time, but is is not even the only issue here, some other files takes a long time to be served too, but do not show a long response time in the log file. So probably different tissues are involved here. I cannot find a solution until now, any suggestions??? I have runned top and it does not appear to be a CPU issue. I have the impression that the spawning of a apache thread could maybe be the bottleneck but it is just a suggestion. Maybe this gives some extra information! EDIT: The problem seemed to be gone for some time but occurs again! And not only with Apache, also connecting using SSH takes a tremendous time, sometimes it takes up to 15 seconds before the keyphrase is asked for. Also scp works very slowly. The behavious is really unpredoctable and makes the server very hard to use. Any ideas...?

• A Simple Collapsible Menu with jQuery

  In this post I'll demonstrate how to make a simple collapsible menu using jQuery. To get started let's go ahead and fire up Visual Studio and create a new WebForm.  Now let's build our menu by adding some div, p and anchor tags. On mouseover, the highlightRow css class is added to <a> element and on mouse out we remove the css class to revert the style to its default look. at line 6 we will hide all the elements that has a class name set as "section" and if you look at the mark up above it is refering to the <div> elements right after each <p> element. At line 7.. what it does is it looks for a <p> element that is a direct child of the element that has an ID of "Menu" and then attach the click event to toggle the visibilty of the section. • I can connect to Samba server but cannot access shares.

  I'm having trouble getting samba sharing working to access shares. I have setup a stand-alone box running Fedora 16 to use as a file-sharing and web development server. It needs to be able to share files with a Windows 7 PC and a Mac running OSX Snow Leopard. I've setup Samba using the Samba configuration GUI tool on Fedora. Added users to Fedora and connected them as Samba users (which are the same as the Windows and Mac usernames and passwords). The workgroup name is the same as the Windows workgroup. Authentication is set to User. I've allowed Samba and Samba client through the firewall and set the ethernet to a trusted port in the firewall. Both the Windows and Mac machines can connect to the server and view the shares, however when trying to access the shares, Windows throws error: 0x80070035 " Windows cannot access \\SERVERNAME\ShareName." Windows user is not prompted for a username or password when accessing the server (found under "Network Places"). This also happens when connecting with the IP rather than the server name. The Mac can also connect to the server and see the shares but when choosing a share gives the error: The original item for ShareName cannot be found. When connecting via IP, the Mac user is prompted for username and password, which when authenticated gives a list of shares, however when choosing a share to connect to, the error is displayed and the user cannot access the share. Since both machines are acting similarly when trying to access the shares, I assume it is an issue with how Samba is configured. smb.conf: [global] workgroup = workgroup server string = Server log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m max log size = 50 security = user load printers = yes cups options = raw printcap name = lpstat printing = cups [homes] comment = Home Directories browseable = no writable = yes [printers] comment = All Printers path = /var/spool/samba browseable = yes printable = yes [FileServ] comment = FileShare path = /media/FileServ read only = no browseable = yes valid users = user1, user2 [webdev] comment = Web development path = /var/www/html/webdev read only = no browseable = yes valid users = user1 How do I get samba sharing working? UPDATE: I Figured it out, it was because I was sharing a second hard drive. See checked answer below. Speculation 1: Before this box I had another box with the same version of fedora installed (16) and samba working for these same computers. I started up the old machine and copied the smb.conf file from the old machine to the new one (editing the share definitions for the new shares of course) and I still get the same errors on both client machines. The only difference in environment is the hardware and the router. On the old machine the router received a dynamic public IP and assigned dynamic private IPs to each device on the network while the new machine is connected to a router that has a static public IP (still dynamic internal IPs though.) Could either one of these be affecting Samba? Speculation 2: As the directory I am trying to share is actually an entire internal disk, I have tried these things: 1.) changing the owner of the mounted disk from root to my user (which is the same username as on the Windows machine) 2.) made a share that only included one of the folders on the disk instead of the entire disk with my user again as the owner. Both tests failed giving me the same errors regarding the network address. Speculation 3: Whenever I try to connect to the share on the Windows 7 client I am prompted for my username and password. When I enter the correct credentials I get an access denied message. However I did notice that under the login box "domain: WINDOWS-PC-NAME" is listed. I believe this could very well be the problem. Speculation 4: So I've completely reinstalled Fedora and Samba now. I've created a share on the first harddrive (one fedora is installed on) and I can access that fine from Windows. However when I try to share any data on the second disk, I am receiving the same error. This I believe is the problem. I think I need to change some things in fstab or fdisk or something. Speculation 5: So in fstab I mapped the drive to automount in a folder which works correctly. I also added the samba_share_t SElinux label to the mountpoint directory which now allows me to access the shares on the Windows machine, however I cannot see any of the files in the directory on the windows machine. (They are there, I can see them in the fedora file browser locally)

  Hello Experts !! I've built a wpf windows application in with there is a registration form. Using IDataErrorInfo i could successfully bind the field to a class property and with the help of styles display meaningful information about the error to users.About the submit button i use the MultiDataTrigger with conditions (Based on a post here on stackoverflow).All went well. Now i need to do the same for the passwordbox and apparently it's not as straight forward.I found on wpftutorial an article and gave it a try but for some reason it wasn't working. i've tried another one from functionalfun. • JqGrid addJSONData + ASP.NET 2.0 WS

  Dear community ! I am a bit lost. I' ve tried to implement a solution based on JqGrid and tried to use function as datatype. I've setted all by the book i guess, i get WS invoked and get JASON back, I got succes on clientside in ajaf call and i "bind" jqGrid using addJSONData but grid remains empty. I do not have any glue now... other "local" samples on same pages works without a problem (jsonstring ...)   I've written a class library that reads from an xml file and return the result as a string. But when I want to install it as a COM+ component, an error occurred (Error Code: 80131501).   We have an ASP.NET application that uses Forms Auth. When users log in, a session ID cookie and a Forms Auth ticket (stored as a cookie) are generated. These are session cookies, not permanent cookies. It is intentional and desirable that when the browser closes, the user is effectively logged out. Once a user logs in, a new window is popped up using window.open('location here');. The page that is opened is effectively the workspace the user works in throughout the rest of their session. From this page, other pop-ups are also used. Lately, we've had a number of customers (all using latest versions of IE8) complaining that the when they log in, the initial pop-up takes them back to the log in screen rather than their homepage. Alternately, users can sometimes log in, get to the homepage (which again, is in a new pop up window), and it all seems fine, until any additional pop-ups are created, where it starts redirecting them to the log in screen again. In attempting to troubleshoot the issue, I've used good old Fiddler. When the problem starts manifesting, I've noticed that the browser is not sending up the ASP.NET session ID session cookie OR the Forms Auth ticket session cookie, even though the response to the log in POST clearly pushes down those cookies. What's more strange is if I CTRL+N to open a new window from the popped-up window that is missing the session cookies, then manually type in the URL to the home page, those cookies magically appear again. However, subsequent window.open(); calls will continue to be broken, not sending the session cookies and taking the user to the log in screen. It's important to note that sometimes, for seemingly no good reason, those same users can suddenly log in and work normally for a while, then it goes back to broken. Now, I've ensured that there are no browser add-ons, plug-ins, toolbars, etc. are running. I've added our site as a trusted site and dropped the security settings to Low, I've modified the Cookie Privacy policy to "accept all" and even disabled automatic policy settings, manually forcing it to accept everything and include session cookies. Nothing appears to affect it. Also note the web application resides on a single server. There is no load balancing, web gardens, server farms, clusters, etc. The server does reside behind an ISA server, but other than that it's pretty straight forward. I've been searching around for days and haven't found anything actionable. Heck, sometimes I can't even reproduce it reliably. I have found a few references to people having this same problem, but they seem to be referencing an issue that was allegedly fixed in a beta or RC release (example: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/179260/ie8-loses-cookies-when-opening-a-new-window-after-a-redirect). These are release versions of IE, with up-to-date patches. I'm aware that I can try to set permanent cookies instead of session cookies. However, this has drastic security implications for our application. Update It seems that the problem automagically goes away when the user is added as a Local Administrator on the machine. Only time will tell if this change permanently (and positively) affects this problem. Time to bust out ProcMon and see if there is a resource access problem.

• SSRS ReportViewer 2010 Iframe IE Problem

  Hello all, My problem relates to trying to include an SSRS (SQL Server) Report inside my MVC application. I've settled on the hybrid solution of having a WebForm with the ReportViewer Control in and then on my MVC View pages having an iframe reference this WebForm page. The tricky part is that the iframe needs to be dynamically populated with the report rather than using src due to posting parameters to the WebForm. It works perfectly in Firefox and Chrome, however IE throws a "Sys is Undefined" javascript error. Using src on the iframe works in IE, but I can't find a way to post parameters (don't want to use something like /Report.aspx?param1=test due to the possible length). Its a ASP.NET MVC 2 project, .NET 4, Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7 x74 if its any help.   I'm new to Entity Framework and I got stuck in an issue while trying to bind a navigation property (foreign key reference) to a dropdownlist. I have Telerik RadGrid control which gets the data using a EntityDataSource control. Here is the model description: Applications: AppId, AppName, ServerId Servers: ServerId, ServerName The Applicaitons.ServerId is a foreign key reference to Servers.ServerId.   I hope someone can assist me. I have RubyMine 2.0.2 installed on Windows 7 32 bit computer. Since a week ago (I presume it must have been after I have update some gems) I cant seem to debug form the IDE. I am trying to debug a rake task which I could before. Running the rake task normally works perfect, just debug doesnt. Its not just limited to the rake, I cant debug any ruby files. I've tried installing older versions of debug-ide and debug-base but to no success. I've tried it with ruby 1.8.7 and 1.8.6 on different computers but nothing. Trying to search the web gave some information, which I've tried, but also no success. Im desperate to get this working.   I am trying to make some enhancements to a production web app. After quite a bit of unit testing on my WinXP IIS 5.1 development machine, everything works on my localhost so I used the Visual Studio 2008 PUBLISH dialog on my Dev PC to push the following projects to a staging server: the primary web app the "primary" webservice (the home page tries to invoke this WS) a "secondary" webservice (not yet a problem because home page does not invoke this WS) I get the following when I try to browse to the home page of the web app typing this into my browser: link text Server Error in '/zVersion2' Application. The staging server is Win Server 2003 ServicePack 2 running IIS 6.0. When I published the primary site and the 2 webservices on the staging server called MOJITO I created the physical directories for each on the D drive. Then using INETMGR, I configured the following virtual directories: zVersion2 zVersion2wsSQL zVersion2wsEmergency All of the above are configured to use a new application pool I setup and named zVersion2aspNet20. Please note that when I test the zVersion2wsSQL webservice independently (from INETMGR right-mouse and click Browse) it works as expected (i.e. presenting all the methods of the webservice) like this snippet: GetMessageByType MessageName="Get_x0020_Message_x0020_By_x0020_Type" I can test this webmethod by clicking on it and it presents the Test dialog (because it takes a simple datatype and I am invoking it on localhost (i.e. MOJITO): **Get Message By Type** **Test** To test the operation using the HTTP POST protocol, click the 'Invoke' button. • Python unicode Decode Error SUDs

• Uploading images from Flex to Rails using Paperclip

  Hi everyone, I'm looking for a way to upload images that were created in my flex app to rails. I've tried to use paperclip, but it don't seem to work. I've got this tutorial here: http://blog.alexonrails.net/?p=218 The problem is, that they are using a FileReference to browse for files on the clients computer. They call the .upload(...) function and send the data to the upload controller. I've seen solution on the internet. The thing is, that every CGRect in the array is converted to an NSString (using NSStringFromCGRect()) and then saved. Is it a good approach? 2)This is bigger problem for me. Even if I comment this line and then run the code successfully, then save(archive) the data and then try to load (unarchive) them, no data is loaded. There aren't any error but currentGame object does not have data that should be loaded. Could you please give me some advice? This is first time I'm using archivers and unarchivers.   So all I want to do is simply find a user control I load based on a drop down selection. I have the user control added but now I'm trying to find the control so I can access a couple properties off of it and I can't find the control for the life of me. I'm actually doing all of this in the master page and there is no code in the default.aspx page itself. Any help would be appreciated. According to the files' properties, I am not the owner and cannot change the permissions. All of my other local gems are accessible without permissions problems, so this is odd. While trying to upload a video in Android, I'm reading it into memory, and if the video is large I get an OutOfMemoryError.   Hallo, I have a problem. I'am trying to get some data from my database. But with a limit. So i use the selectLimit command. But when i load the grid my firebug gives the following error: "parsererror"?e:null},parse:function(d...d(a.fn.jqGrid,d);this.no_legacy_api|| When I go to the selectLimit in the jqgrid.php and print out what the function returns it normaly return an array with all 500 objects with the correct data. When i use the selectCommand in stead of the selectLimit it return all the data correct as an json object an parses it correcly in the grid but it doens't use the LIMIT, Because when i add the limit. PDO doens't work anymore. So how do I get the object from the selectLimit to the grid? Can someone please help me get the grid working?
