  • GDI+ Rotated sub-image

    I have a rather large (30MB) image that I would like to take a small "slice" out of. The slice needs to represent a rotated portion of the original image. The following works but the corners are empty and it appears that I am taking a rectangular area of the original image, then rotating that and drawing it on an unrotated surface resulting in the missing corners. What I want is a rotated selection on the original image that is then drawn on an unrotated surface. I know I can first rotate the original image to accomplish this but this seems inefficient given its size. Any suggestions? Anyway if anyone has a suggestion on how to figure out the image src in the onload and onerror event handlers that works in IE I would really appreciate it. Or even how to figure out after the images have loaded which have loaded and which haven't (but not graphically - I need to generate an array containing the filenames of the images that didn't load).     First off I want to say that I wasn't really sure where to post this but it is very much programming related. If it is in the wrong spot I apologize and please let me know where I should post it instead. When sharing an article on a friends wall, facebook will grab a thumbnail of the article. How do they always get the right thumbnail from articles? It doesn't grab the logo img element of of http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/07/world/asia/07convoys.html?hp for example but rather grabs the correct image element that corresponds with the article. I'm looking to do something similar and was wondering of a good way to parse the html to find the image given this example. Thanks.

    I got this question from my cousin: "What will be the best way to create a similar working website just like: http://www.plakletters.nl". I have looked into the website and think that to start of with i'm gonna help my cousin write a script that loads all fonts installed on the system into a dropdownlist. This dropdownlist will post a font value back to the page and will create images with the input of a user that comes from a textbox. This images will have to be created server side, and I also want to give the users the ability (in the future) to lay their own text over an uploaded image, to see what the result will look like on their own image. I found some information about how to create images using php, I don't know if php can output a list of installed fonts from the system it's running on. What scripting language would you use to get this job done? Keep in mind i would just like to start with outputting some images based on user input using a scripting language.

    Basically, I am trying to put a semi-transparent div over an image to serve as a background for text for a slideshow. Unfortunately, the browser seems intent on always rendering the img over the background-image. Is there any way to fix this? Here is my current CSS for the semi-transparent div: #slideshow .info { height: 80px; margin-top: -80px; background: url(../../images/slideshow-info-pixel.png) repeat; } ... with slideshow-info-pixel.png being a single pixel, 50% opacity, PNG 24. I have so far tried z-index and the CSS must be compatible with IE6.

  • Boot failure on installation from a burned iso image

    I'm encountering boot failure while trying to install a Linux distro from a CD. I'm using an older PC; here are its specs: HP Pavilion a255c 2.66GHz CPU, 512MB RAM with a BIOS revision of 6/30/2003 I reclaimed an older drive (Seagate ST340810A) that seems to be working, as it's recognized in the BIOS (auto-detected). So this is not the original HDD, but a replacement. I downloaded a mini.iso of Ubuntu 10.10 that I want to install, and burned the image to a CD for install. My boot sequence is: First Boot Device [CDROM]. I disabled devices 2-4 so I can just force it to read first from the CD-ROM. This old PC also has a separate CD writer which is a Sec.Slave. The Sec.Master is the Toshiba DVD/ROM DSM-171 drive where I placed the burned Linux CD. With these settings I cannot get it to boot. I get the message "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" when I start the pc with the cd (burned iso image). Would I be able to boot off a usb flash drive? Would that work?

  • Dual booting on separate hard drives

    I have windows XP professional installed on 1 hard drive and Ubuntu 10.10 on my second hard drive. On start up the computer completely skips the grub menu and boots straight into 10.10. I have tried running os-prober with the windows hard drive mounted and then updating grub but it didnt work. Any ideas? I have changed the boot order so that the HDD with xp on it is first however the computer still booted into linux. I tried running grub-install /dev/sda and got this /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Sector 32 is already in use by FlexNet; avoiding it. This software may cause boot or other problems in future. Please ask its authors not to store data in the boot track.. /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Sector 33 is already in use by FlexNet; avoiding it. This software may cause boot or other problems in future. No error reported I checked using disk utility and the code for my xp hard drive is sdb so i ran the camand grub-install /dev/sdb shich gave me this Installation finished. No error reported. So i rebooted but it still didnt work. Any other ideas?   • Opening images sorted by modification date/size/type/etc.

    Suppose I have a folder with pictures in them. If I sort them by name once I open one with Image Viewer and navigate to the others the order is respected. But if I sort my files by modification date, for example, I can't do that. Basically, the default Image Viewer only lets you navigate images by name. According to this post on the ubuntuforums this has been an issue since 2007! Is there a good/easy way to fix it? Seems like such a trivial thing to me.

  • Generating Normal map from a Image with a given Albedo map

    I am working on a research problem part of which involves generating normal map from a given image of a rusted object. I searched the internet for techniques to achieve the above and apparently crazybump is mentioned a lot. I tried it but it didn't produce the desirable effects. Also I am looking for a method which draws inspiration from an existing research paper not some closed source software. I turned my attention to the technique described in the this paper. Results from this technique are satisfactory for normal objects because of bias in the training data but it doesn't work very well in the case of rusted objects. After this I focussed my attention on generating Albedo map (the above problem would become more solvable if Albedo map is obtained). Fortunately I am able to generate pretty good albedo maps for images of rusted objects. I used this paper's approach to generate Albedo maps. Now I want to know a good technique to get Normal map given an image and it's corresponding Albedo map. To give you an idea of what kind of images I am working with I am attaching a sample.     I was using UCK to customize an Ubuntu 11.10 image, and ran a dist-upgrade on it (from the console) to try to update all of the packages on it.
