  • g++ symbol versioning. Set it to GCC_3.0 using version 4 of g++

    - by Ismael
    Hi all I need to implemente a Java class which uses JNI to control a fiscal printer in XUbuntu 8.10 with sun-java6-jdk installed. The structure is the following: EpsonDriver.java loads libEpson.so libEpson is linked dynamically with EpsonFiscalProtocol.so ( provided by Epson, no source available ) and pthread I use javah to generate the header file, and the code compiles. Then I put the libEpson.so in $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/i386, and EpsonDriver.java uses an static initializar System.loadLibrary("libEpson") That part works, however, when I try to use any of the methods I get an unsatisfiedLinkError exception. Some time ago, a coworker did a version that works, and using objdump -Dslx I got the following: Program Header: LOAD off 0x00000000 vaddr 0x00000000 paddr 0x00000000 align 2**12 filesz 0x0000ccc4 memsz 0x0000ccc4 flags r-x LOAD off 0x0000d000 vaddr 0x0000d000 paddr 0x0000d000 align 2**12 filesz 0x00000250 memsz 0x00044a5c flags rw- DYNAMIC off 0x0000d014 vaddr 0x0000d014 paddr 0x0000d014 align 2**2 filesz 0x000000f0 memsz 0x000000f0 flags rw- NOTE off 0x000000d4 vaddr 0x000000d4 paddr 0x000000d4 align 2**2 filesz 0x00000024 memsz 0x00000024 flags r-- STACK off 0x00000000 vaddr 0x00000000 paddr 0x00000000 align 2**2 filesz 0x00000000 memsz 0x00000000 flags rw- Dynamic Section: NEEDED EpsonFiscalProtocol.so NEEDED libpthread.so.0 NEEDED libstdc++.so.6 NEEDED libm.so.6 NEEDED libc.so.6 SONAME libcom_tichile_jpos_EpsonSerialDriver.so INIT 0x00007254 FINI 0x0000ba08 GNU_HASH 0x000000f8 STRTAB 0x00001f50 SYMTAB 0x00000ae0 STRSZ 0x00002384 SYMENT 0x00000010 PLTGOT 0x0000d108 PLTRELSZ 0x00000008 PLTREL 0x00000011 JMPREL 0x0000724c REL 0x000045c4 RELSZ 0x00002c88 RELENT 0x00000008 TEXTREL 0x00000000 VERNEED 0x00004564 VERNEEDNUM 0x00000002 VERSYM 0x000042d4 RELCOUNT 0x000000ac Version References: required from libstdc++.so.6: 0x056bafd3 0x00 05 CXXABI_1.3 0x08922974 0x00 04 GLIBCXX_3.4 required from libc.so.6: 0x0b792650 0x00 03 GCC_3.0 0x0d696910 0x00 02 GLIBC_2.0 In the recently compiled file I get: Program Header: LOAD off 0x00000000 vaddr 0x00000000 paddr 0x00000000 align 2**12 filesz 0x00005300 memsz 0x00005300 flags r-x LOAD off 0x00005300 vaddr 0x00006300 paddr 0x00006300 align 2**12 filesz 0x00000274 memsz 0x00010314 flags rw- DYNAMIC off 0x00005314 vaddr 0x00006314 paddr 0x00006314 align 2**2 filesz 0x000000e0 memsz 0x000000e0 flags rw- EH_FRAME off 0x00004a00 vaddr 0x00004a00 paddr 0x00004a00 align 2**2 filesz 0x00000154 memsz 0x00000154 flags r-- Dynamic Section: NEEDED libstdc++.so.5 NEEDED libm.so.6 NEEDED libgcc_s.so.1 NEEDED libc.so.6 SONAME EpsonFiscalProtocol.so INIT 0x00001cb4 FINI 0x00004994 HASH 0x000000b4 STRTAB 0x00000da4 SYMTAB 0x000004f4 STRSZ 0x00000acf SYMENT 0x00000010 PLTGOT 0x0000640c PLTRELSZ 0x00000270 PLTREL 0x00000011 JMPREL 0x00001a44 REL 0x000019dc RELSZ 0x00000068 RELENT 0x00000008 VERNEED 0x0000198c VERNEEDNUM 0x00000002 VERSYM 0x00001874 RELCOUNT 0x00000004 Version References: required from libstdc++.so.5: 0x056bafd2 0x00 04 CXXABI_1.2 required from libc.so.6: 0x09691f73 0x00 03 GLIBC_2.1.3 0x0d696910 0x00 02 GLIBC_2.0 So I suspect the main diference is the GCC_3.0 symbol I compile libcom_tichile_EpsonSerialDriver.so with the following command ( from memory as I not at work right now ) g++ -Wl,-soname=.... -shared -I/*jni libraries*/ -o libcom_tichile_jpos_EpsonSerialDriver -lEpsonFiscalProtocol -lpthread Is there any way to tell g++ to use that symbol version? • Alert visualization recipe: Get out your blender, drop in some sp_send_dbmail, Google Charts API, add your favorite colors and sprinkle with html. Blend till it’s smooth and looks pretty enough to taste.

    - by Maria Zakourdaev
      I really like database monitoring. My email inbox have a constant flow of different types of alerts coming from our production servers with all kinds of information, sometimes more useful and sometimes less useful. Usually database alerts look really simple, it’s usually a plain text email saying “Prod1 Database data file on Server X is 80% used. You’d better grow it manually before some query triggers the AutoGrowth process”. Imagine you could have received email like the one below.  In addition to the alert description it could have also included the the database file growth chart over the past 6 months. Wouldn’t it give you much more information whether the data growth is natural or extreme? That’s truly what data visualization is for. Believe it or not, I have sent the graph below from SQL Server stored procedure without buying any additional data monitoring/visualization tool.   Would you like to visualize your database alerts like I do? Then like myself, you’d love the Google Charts. All you need to know is a little HTML and have a mail profile configured on your SQL Server instance regardless of the SQL Server version. First of all, I hope you know that the sp_send_dbmail procedure has a great parameter @body_format = ‘HTML’, which allows us to send rich and colorful messages instead of boring black and white ones. All that we need is to dynamically create HTML code. This is how, for instance, you can create a table and populate it with some data: DECLARE @html varchar(max) SET @html = '<html>' + '<H3><font id="Text" style='color: Green;'>Top Databases: </H3>' + '<table border="1" bordercolor="#3300FF" style='background-color:#DDF8CC' width='70%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='3'>' + '<tr><font color="Green"><th>Database Name</th><th>Size</th><th>Physical Name</th></tr>' + CAST( (SELECT TOP 10                             td = name,'',                             td = size * 8/1024 ,'',                             td = physical_name              FROM sys.master_files               ORDER BY size DESC             FOR XML PATH ('tr'),TYPE ) AS VARCHAR(MAX)) + '</table>' EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail @recipients = '[email protected]', @subject ='Top databases', @body = @html, @body_format = 'HTML' This is the result:   If you want to add more visualization effects, you can use Google Charts Tools https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/interactive/docs/index which is a free and rich library of data visualization charts, they’re also easy to populate and embed. There are two versions of the Google Charts Image based charts: https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/image/docs/gallery/chart_gall This is an old version, it’s officially deprecated although it will be up for a next few years or so. I really enjoy using this one because it can be viewed within the email body. For mobile devices you need to change the “Load remote images” property in your email application configuration.           Charts based on JavaScript classes: https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/interactive/docs/gallery This API is newer, with rich and highly interactive charts, and it’s much more easier to understand and configure. The only downside of it is that they cannot be viewed within the email body. Outlook, Gmail and many other email clients, as part of their security policy, do not run any JavaScript that’s placed within the email body. However, you can still enjoy this API by sending the report as an email attachment. Here is an example of the old version of Google Charts API, sending the same top databases report as in the previous example but instead of a simple table, this script is using a pie chart right from  the T-SQL code DECLARE @html  varchar(8000) DECLARE @Series  varchar(800),@Labels  varchar(8000),@Legend  varchar(8000);     SET @Series = ''; SET @Labels = ''; SET @Legend = ''; SELECT TOP 5 @Series = @Series + CAST(size * 8/1024 as varchar) + ',',                         @Labels = @Labels +CAST(size * 8/1024 as varchar) + 'MB'+'|',                         @Legend = @Legend + name + '|' FROM sys.master_files ORDER BY size DESC SELECT @Series = SUBSTRING(@Series,1,LEN(@Series)-1),         @Labels = SUBSTRING(@Labels,1,LEN(@Labels)-1),         @Legend = SUBSTRING(@Legend,1,LEN(@Legend)-1) SET @html =   '<H3><font color="Green"> '+@@ServerName+' top 5 databases : </H3>'+    '<br>'+    '<img src="http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?'+    'chf=bg,s,DDF8CC&'+    'cht=p&'+    'chs=400x200&'+    'chco=3072F3|7777CC|FF9900|FF0000|4A8C26&'+    'chd=t:'+@Series+'&'+    'chl='+@Labels+'&'+    'chma=0,0,0,0&'+    'chdl='+@Legend+'&'+    'chdlp=b"'+    'alt="'+@@ServerName+' top 5 databases" />'              EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail @recipients = '[email protected]',                             @subject = 'Top databases',                             @body = @html,                             @body_format = 'HTML' This is what you get. It can be used for applicative reports if you need high levels of customization that you cannot achieve using standard methods like SSRS. If you need more information on how to customize the charts, you can try the following: Image Based Charts wizard https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/image/docs/chart_wizard  Live Image Charts Playground https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/image/docs/chart_playground Image Based Charts Parameters List https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/image/docs/chart_params Java Script Charts Playground https://code.google.com/apis/ajax/playground/?type=visualization Use the above examples as a starting point for your procedures and I’d be more than happy to hear of your implementations of the above techniques. Is there a way to use keys to select a range? Do I need to create some kind of intermediate data node? Is there a different route that shows I'm barking up the wrong tree with both those suggestions? Is this even possible with XSLT or do I need to find a way to change the data source?

  • Optimize date query for large child tables: GiST or GIN?

The following query runs abysmally slow due to a full table scan: SELECT count(1) AS measurements, avg(m.amount) AS amount FROM climate.measurement m WHERE m.station_id IN ( SELECT s.id FROM climate.station s, climate.city c WHERE -- For one city ... -- c.id = 5182 AND -- Where stations are within an elevation range ... -- s.elevation BETWEEN 0 AND 3000 AND 6371.009 * SQRT( POW(RADIANS(c.latitude_decimal - s.latitude_decimal), 2) + (COS(RADIANS(c.latitude_decimal + s.latitude_decimal) / 2) * POW(RADIANS(c.longitude_decimal - s.longitude_decimal), 2)) ) <= 50 ) AND -- -- Begin extracting the data from the database. -- -- The data before 1900 is shaky; insufficient after 2009. -- extract( YEAR FROM m.taken ) BETWEEN 1900 AND 2009 AND -- Whittled down by category ... -- m.category_id = 1 AND m.taken BETWEEN -- Start date. (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-01-01')::date AND -- End date. Calculated by checking to see if the end date wraps -- into the next year. If it does, then add 1 to the current year. -- (cast(extract( YEAR FROM m.taken ) + greatest( -1 * sign( (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-12-31')::date - (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-01-01')::date ), 0 ) AS text)||'-12-31')::date GROUP BY extract( YEAR FROM m.taken ) The sluggishness comes from this part of the query: m.taken BETWEEN /* Start date. */ (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-01-01')::date AND /* End date. Calculated by checking to see if the end date wraps into the next year. If it does, then add 1 to the current year. */ (cast(extract( YEAR FROM m.taken ) + greatest( -1 * sign( (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-12-31')::date - (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-01-01')::date ), 0 ) AS text)||'-12-31')::date The HashAggregate from the plan shows a cost of 10006220141.11, which is, I suspect, on the astronomically huge side. There is a full table scan on the measurement table (itself having neither data nor indexes) being performed. The table aggregates 237 million rows from its child tables. Question What is the proper way to index the dates to avoid full table scans? Options I have considered: GIN GiST Rewrite the WHERE clause Separate year_taken, month_taken, and day_taken columns to the tables What are your thoughts? Thank you!

This does an address block: position: absolute;top: .2em; left: .2em; width: 2.4em;height: 1.2em; position: absolute;top: .2em; left: 3em; width: 12.4em; height: 1.2em; position: absolute;top: 1.7em; left: 3em; width: 12.4em;height: 1.2em; position: absolute;top: 3.2em; left: 3em; width: 12.4em;height: 1.2em; position: absolute;top: 4.7em; left: 3em; width: 12.4em;height: 1.2em; position: absolute;top: 6.2em; left: 3em; width: 7.6em; height: 1.2em; position: absolute;top: 6.2em; left: 10.9em; width: 1.6em; height: 1.2em; position: absolute;top: 6.2em; left: 12.8em; width: 2.5em; height: 1.2em; position: absolute;top: 7.7em; left: 3em; width: 7.6em;height: 1.2em; position: absolute;top: 9.2em; left: 3em; width: 7.6em;height: 1.2em; position: absolute;top: 10.7em; left: 3em; width: 1.2em;height: 1.2em; position: absolute;top: 10.7em; left: 4.5em; width: 10.9em; height: 1.2em; but what I really need is some Javascript that allows me to draw my forms on screen, then generate the CSS for my real ASP.NET MVC 2 partial views, allowing nudge and cell resizing with keystrokes. Anyone have any suggestions for something like this?

  • xslt: operations on new elements

    Could you please explain in case we could perform any operations on newly included elements using xsl? To explain using an example: if we have the following input file <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <top> <Results> <a>no</a> <b>10</b> <c>12</c> <d>9</d> </Results> <Results> <a>Yes</a> <b>8</b> <c>50</c> <d>12</d> </Results> </top> We need the final result as <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <top> <Results> <a>no</a> <b>10</b> <b_>10</b_> <c>12</c> <c_>12</c_> <d>9</d> <e_>11</e_> </Results> <Results> <a>Yes</a> <b>8</b> <b_>8</b_> <c>50</c> <c_>50</c_> <d>12</d> <e_>29</e_> </Results> </top> Where: b_ = b, c_ = c, & e_ = (b_ + c_)/2

  • Generating a drop down list of timezones with PHP

    Most sites need some way to show the dates on the site in the users preferred timezone. Below are two lists that I found and then one method using the built in PHP DateTime class in PHP 5. one would be the safest as it would grow with the PHP release being used. You could also flip that array around when needed to tie timezones to city names.

  • iptable CLUSTERIP won't work

    - by Rad Akefirad
    We have some requirements which explained here. We tried to satisfy them without any success as described. Here is the brief information: Here are requirements: 1. High Availability 2. Load Balancing Current Configuration: Server #1: one static (real) IP for each 10.17.243.11 Server #2: one static (real) IP for each 10.17.243.12 Cluster (virtual and shared among all servers) IP: 10.17.243.15 I tried to use CLUSTERIP to have the cluster IP by the following: on the server #1 iptables -I INPUT -i eth0 -d 10.17.243.15 -j CLUSTERIP --new --hashmode sourceip --clustermac 01:00:5E:00:00:20 --total-nodes 2 --local-node 1 on the server #2 iptables -I INPUT -i eth0 -d 10.17.243.15 -j CLUSTERIP --new --hashmode sourceip --clustermac 01:00:5E:00:00:20 --total-nodes 2 --local-node 2 When we try to ping 10.17.243.15 there is no reply. And the web service (tomcat on port 8080) is not accessible either. However we managed to get the packets on both servers by using TCPDUMP. Some useful information: iptable roules (iptables -L -n -v): Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT 21775 packets, 1470K bytes) pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination 0 0 CLUSTERIP all -- eth0 * 0.0.0.0/0 10.17.243.15 CLUSTERIP hashmode=sourceip clustermac=01:00:5E:00:00:20 total_nodes=2 local_node=1 hash_init=0 Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT 0 packets, 0 bytes) pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT 14078 packets, 44M bytes) pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination Log messages: ... kernel: [ 7.329017] e1000e: eth3 NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: None ... kernel: [ 7.329133] e1000e 0000:05:00.0: eth3: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO ... kernel: [ 7.329567] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth3: link becomes ready ... kernel: [ 71.333285] ip_tables: (C) 2000-2006 Netfilter Core Team ... kernel: [ 71.341804] nf_conntrack version 0.5.0 (16384 buckets, 65536 max) ... kernel: [ 71.343168] ipt_CLUSTERIP: ClusterIP Version 0.8 loaded successfully ... kernel: [ 108.456043] device eth0 entered promiscuous mode ... kernel: [ 112.678859] device eth0 left promiscuous mode ... kernel: [ 117.916050] device eth0 entered promiscuous mode ... kernel: [ 140.168848] device eth0 left promiscuous mode TCPDUMP while pinging: tcpdump: listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes 12:11:55.335528 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 0, offset 0, flags [DF], proto ICMP (1), length 84) 10.17.243.1 > 10.17.243.15: ICMP echo request, id 16162, seq 2390, length 64 12:11:56.335778 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 0, offset 0, flags [DF], proto ICMP (1), length 84) 10.17.243.1 > 10.17.243.15: ICMP echo request, id 16162, seq 2391, length 64 12:11:57.336010 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 0, offset 0, flags [DF], proto ICMP (1), length 84) 10.17.243.1 > 10.17.243.15: ICMP echo request, id 16162, seq 2392, length 64 12:11:58.336287 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 0, offset 0, flags [DF], proto ICMP (1), length 84) 10.17.243.1 > 10.17.243.15: ICMP echo request, id 16162, seq 2393, length 64 And there is no ping reply as I said. Does anyone know which part I missed? Thanks in advance.

  • Do I need to be worried about these SMART drive temperatures?

    - by Steve Lorimer
    I have 5 hard drives in a machine sitting in a cupboard. /dev/sda is a 500GB Seagate drive, and is the boot disk. /dev/sd{b,c,d,e} are 2TB drives in a raid6 configuration. smartctl is showing significantly higher temperatures (like ~140 degrees celsius) on the raid drives than the boot drive. Do I need to be worried? /dev/sdb and /dev/sde are new Western Digital Black drives (new=1 week) /dev/sdc and /dev/sdd are 5 year old Hitachi drives /dev/sda [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 40 to 39 /dev/sdc [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 142 to 146 /dev/sdc [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 146 to 142 /dev/sdd [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 142 to 146 /dev/sda [SAT], Airflow_Temperature_Cel changed from 61 to 62 /dev/sda [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 39 to 38 /dev/sde [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 107 to 108 /dev/sdb [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 108 to 109 /dev/sdc [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 146 to 150 /dev/sdc [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 146 to 150 /dev/sda [SAT], Airflow_Temperature_Cel changed from 62 to 61 /dev/sda [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 38 to 39 Update: Adding detailed drive information as per request: /dev/sda =========================== smartctl 6.0 2012-10-10 r3643 [x86_64-linux-3.9.10-100.fc17.x86_64] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-12, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Model Family: Seagate Pipeline HD 5900.2 Device Model: ST3500312CS Serial Number: 5VV47HXA LU WWN Device Id: 5 000c50 02aad5ad6 Firmware Version: SC13 User Capacity: 500,107,862,016 bytes [500 GB] Sector Size: 512 bytes logical/physical Rotation Rate: 5900 rpm Device is: In smartctl database [for details use: -P show] ATA Version is: ATA8-ACS T13/1699-D revision 4 SATA Version is: SATA 2.6, 1.5 Gb/s (current: 1.5 Gb/s) Local Time is: Tue Jun 3 10:54:11 2014 EST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. • Apache access.log interpretation

    - by Pantelis Sopasakis
    In the log file of apache (access.log) I find log entries like the following: 10.20.30.40 - - [18/Mar/2011:02:12:44 +0200] "GET /index.php HTTP/1.1" 404 505 "-" "Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; U; en) Presto/2.7.62 Version/11.01" Whose meaning is clear: The client with IP 10.20.30.40 applied a GET HTTP method on /index.php (that is to say http://mysite.org/index.php) receiving a status code 404 using Opera as client/browser. What I don't understand is entries like the following: 174.34.231.19 - - [18/Mar/2011:02:24:56 +0200] "GET http://www.siasatema.com HTTP/1.1" 200 469 "-" "Python-urllib/2.4" So here what I see is that someone (client with IP 174.34.231.19) accessed http://www.siasatema.com and got a 200 HTTP status code(?). It doesn't make sense to me... the only interpretation I can think of is that my apache server acts like proxy! Here are some other requests that don't have my site as destination... 187.35.50.61 - - [18/Mar/2011:01:28:20 +0200] "POST http://72.26.198.222:80/log/normal/ HTTP/1.0" 404 491 "-" "Octoshape-sua/1010120" 87.117.203.177 - - [18/Mar/2011:01:29:59 +0200] "CONNECT 64.12.244.203:80 HTTP/1.0" 405 556 "-" "-" 87.117.203.177 - - [18/Mar/2011:01:29:59 +0200] "open 64.12.244.203 80" 400 506 "-" "-" 87.117.203.177 - - [18/Mar/2011:01:30:04 +0200] "telnet 64.12.244.203 80" 400 506 "-" "-" 87.117.203.177 - - [18/Mar/2011:01:30:09 +0200] "64.12.244.203 80" 400 301 "-" "-" I believe that all these are related to some kind of attack or abuse of the server. Could someone explain to may what is going on and how to cope with this situation? Update 1: I disabled mod_proxy to make sure that I don't have an open proxy: # a2dismod proxy Where from I got the message: Module proxy already disabled I made sure that there is no file proxy.conf under $APACHE/mods-enabled. Finally, I set on my browser (Mozzila) my IP as a proxy and tried to access http://google.com. I was not redirected to google.com but instead my web page appeared. The same happened with trying to access http://a.b (!). So my server does not really work as a proxy since it does not forward the requests... But I think it would be better if somehow I could configure it to return a status code 403. Here is my apache configuration file: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName mysite.org ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot /var/www/ <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory /var/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ <Directory "/usr/lib/cgi-bin"> AllowOverride None Options +ExecCGI -MultiViews +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error.log LogLevel warn CustomLog /var/log/apache2/access.log combined Alias /doc/ "/usr/share/doc/" <Directory "/usr/share/doc/"> Options Indexes MultiViews FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order deny, allow Deny from all Allow from 127.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 ::1/128 </Directory> </VirtualHost> Update 2: Using a block, I restrict the use of other methods than GET and POST... <Limit POST PUT CONNECT HEAD OPTIONS DELETE PATCH PROPFIND PROPPATCH MKCOL COPY MOVE LOCK UNLOCK> Order deny, allow Deny from all </Limit> <LimitExcept GET> Order deny, allow Deny from all </LimitExcept> Now methods other that GET are forbidden (403). My only question now is whether there is some trick to boot those how try to use my server as a proxy out...

  • Installing chrome in Centos 6.2 (Final)

    - by usjes
    I need to install chrome in a dedicated centos server where I only access via ssh, it doesn't have X or any windows graphical stuff. I need it to be able to pack extensions using google-chrome --pack-extension. I tried adding this to /etc/yum.repos.d/google.repo [google-chrome] name=google-chrome - 32-bit baseurl=http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/i386 enabled=1 gpgcheck=1 gpgkey=https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub And then yum install google-chrome-stable, but there's a huge list of dependencies problems: How can I install chrome without breaking anything else? UPDATE: Ok, I installed perl-CGI from .rpm because yum couldn't find it, now dependencies resolve and it show me this list of packages to install: Dependencies Resolved ============================================================================================================================================================================================================================================= Package Arch Version Repository Size ============================================================================================================================================================================================================================================= Installing: google-chrome-stable x86_64 19.0.1084.52-138391 google-chrome 35 M Installing for dependencies: ConsoleKit x86_64 0.4.1-3.el6 base 82 k ConsoleKit-libs x86_64 0.4.1-3.el6 base 17 k GConf2 x86_64 2.28.0-6.el6 base 964 k ORBit2 x86_64 2.14.17-3.1.el6 base 168 k bc x86_64 1.06.95-1.el6 base 110 k cdparanoia-libs x86_64 10.2-5.1.el6 base 47 k cups x86_64 1:1.4.2-44.el6_2.3 updates 2.3 M dbus x86_64 1:1.2.24-5.el6_1 base 207 k desktop-file-utils x86_64 0.15-9.el6 base 47 k ed x86_64 1.1-3.3.el6 base 72 k eggdbus x86_64 0.6-3.el6 base 91 k foomatic x86_64 4.0.4-1.el6_1.1 base 251 k foomatic-db noarch 4.0-7.20091126.el6 base 980 k foomatic-db-filesystem noarch 4.0-7.20091126.el6 base 4.4 k foomatic-db-ppds noarch 4.0-7.20091126.el6 base 19 M ghostscript x86_64 8.70-11.el6_2.6 updates 4.4 M ghostscript-fonts noarch 5.50-23.1.el6 base 751 k gstreamer x86_64 0.10.29-1.el6 base 764 k gstreamer-plugins-base x86_64 0.10.29-1.el6 base 942 k gstreamer-tools x86_64 0.10.29-1.el6 base 23 k iso-codes noarch 3.16-2.el6 base 2.4 M lcms-libs x86_64 1.19-1.el6 base 100 k libIDL x86_64 0.8.13-2.1.el6 base 83 k libXScrnSaver x86_64 1.2.0-1.el6 base 19 k libXfont x86_64 1.4.1-2.el6_1 base 128 k libXv x86_64 1.0.5-1.el6 base 21 k libfontenc x86_64 1.0.5-2.el6 base 24 k libgudev1 x86_64 147-2.40.el6 base 59 k libmng x86_64 1.0.10-4.1.el6 base 165 k libogg x86_64 2:1.1.4-2.1.el6 base 21 k liboil x86_64 0.3.16-4.1.el6 base 121 k libtheora x86_64 1:1.1.0-2.el6 base 129 k libvisual x86_64 0.4.0-9.1.el6 base 135 k libvorbis x86_64 1:1.2.3-4.el6_2.1 updates 168 k mailx x86_64 12.4-6.el6 base 234 k man x86_64 1.6f-29.el6 base 263 k mesa-libGLU x86_64 7.11-3.el6 base 201 k nvidia-graphics195.30-libs x86_64 195.30-120.el6 atrpms 13 M openjpeg-libs x86_64 1.3-7.el6 base 59 k pax x86_64 3.4-10.1.el6 base 69 k phonon-backend-gstreamer x86_64 1:4.6.2-20.el6 base 125 k polkit x86_64 0.96-2.el6_0.1 base 158 k poppler x86_64 0.12.4-3.el6_0.1 base 557 k poppler-data noarch 0.4.0-1.el6 base 2.2 M poppler-utils x86_64 0.12.4-3.el6_0.1 base 73 k portreserve x86_64 0.0.4-4.el6_1.1 base 22 k qt x86_64 1:4.6.2-20.el6 base 4.0 M qt-sqlite x86_64 1:4.6.2-20.el6 base 50 k qt-x11 x86_64 1:4.6.2-20.el6 base 12 M qt3 x86_64 3.3.8b-30.el6 base 3.5 M redhat-lsb x86_64 4.0-3.el6.centos base 24 k redhat-lsb-graphics x86_64 4.0-3.el6.centos base 12 k redhat-lsb-printing x86_64 4.0-3.el6.centos base 11 k sgml-common noarch 0.6.3-32.el6 base 43 k time x86_64 1.7-37.1.el6 base 26 k tmpwatch x86_64 2.9.16-4.el6 base 31 k xdg-utils noarch 1.0.2-17.20091016cvs.el6 base 58 k xml-common noarch 0.6.3-32.el6 base 9.5 k xorg-x11-font-utils x86_64 1:7.2-11.el6 base 75 k xz x86_64 4.999.9-0.3.beta.20091007git.el6 base 137 k xz-lzma-compat x86_64 4.999.9-0.3.beta.20091007git.el6 base 16 k Transaction Summary ============================================================================================================================================================================================================================================= Install 62 Package(s) Is it safe to continue and install all that or could I break something already installed?

  • Mongodb Slave replication lag

    - by Leonid Bugaev
    We using standard mongo setup: 2 replicas + 1 arbiter. Both replica servers use same AWS m1.medium with RAID10 EBS. We experiencing constantly growing replication lag on secondary replica. I tried to do full-resync, you can see it on graph, but it helped only for some hours. Our mongo usage is really low now, and frankly i can't understan why it can be. iostat 1 for secondary: avg-cpu: %user %nice %system %iowait %steal %idle 80.39 0.00 2.94 0.00 16.67 0.00 Device: tps kB_read/s kB_wrtn/s kB_read kB_wrtn xvdap1 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 0 xvdb 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 0 xvdfp4 12.75 0.00 189.22 0 193 xvdfp3 12.75 0.00 189.22 0 193 xvdfp2 7.84 0.00 40.20 0 41 xvdfp1 7.84 0.00 40.20 0 41 md127 19.61 0.00 219.61 0 224 mongostat for secondary (why 100% locks? i guess its the problem): insert query update delete getmore command flushes mapped vsize res faults locked % idx miss % qr|qw ar|aw netIn netOut conn set repl time *10 *0 *16 *0 0 2|4 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.65g 0 107 0 0|0 0|0 198b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:37 *4 *0 *8 *0 0 12|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.65g 0 91.7 0 0|0 0|0 837b 5k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:38 *4 *0 *7 *0 0 3|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 110 0 0|0 0|0 342b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:39 *4 *0 *8 *0 0 1|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 82.9 0 0|0 0|0 62b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:40 *3 *0 *7 *0 0 5|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.6g 0 75.2 0 0|0 0|0 466b 2k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:41 *4 *0 *7 *0 0 1|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 138 0 0|0 0|1 62b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:42 *7 *0 *15 *0 0 3|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 95.4 0 0|0 0|0 342b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:43 *7 *0 *14 *0 0 1|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 98 0 0|0 0|0 62b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:44 *8 *0 *17 *0 0 3|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 96.3 0 0|0 0|0 342b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:45 *7 *0 *14 *0 0 3|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 96.1 0 0|0 0|0 186b 2k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:46 mongostat for primary insert query update delete getmore command flushes mapped vsize res faults locked % idx miss % qr|qw ar|aw netIn netOut conn set repl time 12 30 20 0 0 3 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.9 0 0|0 0|0 212k 619k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:41 5 17 10 0 0 2 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.5 0 0|0 0|0 159k 429k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:42 9 22 16 0 0 3 0 30.9g 62.6g 642m 0 0.7 0 0|0 0|0 158k 276k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:43 6 18 12 0 0 2 0 30.9g 62.6g 640m 0 0.7 0 0|0 0|0 93k 231k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:44 6 12 8 0 0 3 0 30.9g 62.6g 640m 0 0.3 0 0|0 0|0 80k 125k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:45 8 21 14 0 0 9 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.6 0 0|0 0|0 118k 419k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:46 10 34 20 0 0 6 0 30.9g 62.6g 640m 0 1.3 0 0|0 0|0 164k 527k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:47 6 21 13 0 0 2 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.7 0 0|0 0|0 111k 477k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:48 8 21 15 0 0 2 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.7 0 0|0 0|0 204k 336k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:49 4 12 8 0 0 8 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.5 0 0|0 0|0 156k 530k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:50 Mongo version: 2.0.6

  • Configuring dhcp module in FreeRadius (3.0.2 - Centos 6.5)

    - by mixja
    I am using the REST module to authorise a DHCP request. I would like to send an explicit DHCP NAK if the authorisation fails, however the DHCP module seems to return immediately if there is a failure and just ignores the DHCP request without any response. Here is my DHCP module configuration - if rest.authorize is successful, the if (ok) control block is hit, but if rest.authorize fails the if (fail) is never hit. dhcp DHCP-Discover { rest.authorize if (fail) { update reply { DHCP-Message-Type = DHCP-Nak } } if (ok) { update reply { DHCP-Message-Type = DHCP-Offer } update reply { DHCP-Domain-Name-Server = x.x.x.x DHCP-Domain-Name-Server = x.x.x.x DHCP-Subnet-Mask = 255.255.255.0 DHCP-Router-Address = x.x.x.x DHCP-IP-Address-Lease-Time = 3600 DHCP-DHCP-Server-Identifier = x.x.x.x } mac2ip } } Below is the output after a 401 Unauthorized is received. I am wanting to achieve a temporary block on DHCP for a specified (small) period of time. However the FreeRADIUS behaviour is to ignore duplicate requests for same DHCP transaction, meaning DHCP on client is blocked until it begins a new transaction. If a DHCP NAK can be sent, the DHCP client will initiate a new transaction after each NAK (i.e. DHCP Discover), meaning FreeRADIUS will process each DHCP Discover from the client, and the block will be removed much closer to the desired block time. • FFMPEG dropping frames while encoding JPEG sequence at color change

    - by Matt
    I'm trying to put together a slide show using imagemagick and FFMPEG. I use imagemagick to expand a single photo into 30fps video (imagemagick also handles things like putting some text captions on the frames along the way). When I go to let ffmpeg digest it into a video it clips along nicely on the color parts of the video, but when it gets to a black and white section it reports "frame= 2030 fps=102 q=32766.0 Lsize= 5203kB time=00:01:07.60 bitrate= 630.5kbits/s dup=0 drop=703" and drops every frame of video until it hits something with color. As you can imagine this results in entire photos being removed from the slideshow. Here is my latest dump... ffmpeg -y -r 30 -i "teststream/%06d.jpg" -c:v libx264 -r 30 newffmpeg.mp4 ffmpeg version git-2012-12-10-c3bb333 Copyright (c) 2000-2012 the FFmpeg developers built on Dec 10 2012 22:02:04 with gcc 4.6.1 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.1-9ubuntu3) configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-libfaac --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-librtmp --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libx264 --enable-nonfree --enable-version3 libavutil 52. 12.100 / 52. 12.100 libavcodec 54. 79.101 / 54. 79.101 libavformat 54. 49.100 / 54. 49.100 libavdevice 54. 3.102 / 54. 3.102 libavfilter 3. 26.101 / 3. 26.101 libswscale 2. 1.103 / 2. 1.103 libswresample 0. 17.102 / 0. 17.102 libpostproc 52. 2.100 / 52. 2.100 Input #0, image2, from 'teststream/%06d.jpg': Duration: 00:12:02.80, start: 0.000000, bitrate: N/A Stream #0:0: Video: mjpeg, yuvj444p, 720x480 [SAR 72:72 DAR 3:2], 25 fps, 25 tbr, 25 tbn, 25 tbc [libx264 @ 0x3450140] using SAR=1/1 [libx264 @ 0x3450140] using cpu capabilities: MMX2 SSE2Fast SSSE3 FastShuffle SSE4.2 [libx264 @ 0x3450140] profile High, level 3.0 [libx264 @ 0x3450140] 264 - core 129 r2 1cffe9f - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec - Copyleft 2003-2012 - http://www.videolan.org/x264.html - options: cabac=1 ref=3 deblock=1:0:0 analyse=0x3:0x113 me=hex subme=7 psy=1 psy_rd=1.00:0.00 mixed_ref=1 me_range=16 chroma_me=1 trellis=1 8x8dct=1 cqm=0 deadzone=21,11 fast_pskip=1 chroma_qp_offset=-2 threads=12 lookahead_threads=2 sliced_threads=0 nr=0 decimate=1 interlaced=0 bluray_compat=0 constrained_intra=0 bframes=3 b_pyramid=2 b_adapt=1 b_bias=0 direct=1 weightb=1 open_gop=0 weightp=2 keyint=250 keyint_min=25 scenecut=40 intra_refresh=0 rc_lookahead=40 rc=crf mbtree=1 crf=23.0 qcomp=0.60 qpmin=0 qpmax=69 qpstep=4 ip_ratio=1.40 aq=1:1.00 Output #0, mp4, to 'newffmpeg.mp4': Metadata: encoder : Lavf54.49.100 Stream #0:0: Video: h264 ([33][0][0][0] / 0x0021), yuvj420p, 720x480 [SAR 1:1 DAR 3:2], q=-1--1, 15360 tbn, 30 tbc Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 - #0:0 (mjpeg - libx264) Press [q] to stop, [?] for help Input stream #0:0 frame changed from size:720x480 fmt:yuvj444p to size:720x480 fmt:yuvj422p Input stream #0:0 frame changed from size:720x480 fmt:yuvj422p to size:720x480 fmt:yuvj444pp=584 frame= 2030 fps=102 q=32766.0 Lsize= 5203kB time=00:01:07.60 bitrate= 630.5kbits/s dup=0 drop=703 video:5179kB audio:0kB subtitle:0 global headers:0kB muxing overhead 0.472425% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] frame I:9 Avg QP:20.10 size: 33933 [libx264 @ 0x3450140] frame P:636 Avg QP:24.12 size: 6737 [libx264 @ 0x3450140] frame B:1385 Avg QP:27.04 size: 514 [libx264 @ 0x3450140] consecutive B-frames: 2.5% 15.2% 13.2% 69.2% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] mb I I16..4: 8.3% 80.3% 11.5% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] mb P I16..4: 1.5% 2.5% 0.2% P16..4: 41.7% 18.0% 10.3% 0.0% 0.0% skip:25.9% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] mb B I16..4: 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% B16..8: 26.6% 0.6% 0.1% direct: 0.2% skip:72.3% L0:35.0% L1:60.3% BI: 4.7% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] 8x8 transform intra:64.1% inter:75.1% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] coded y,uvDC,uvAC intra: 51.6% 78.0% 43.7% inter: 10.6% 14.9% 2.1% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] i16 v,h,dc,p: 29% 19% 6% 46% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] i8 v,h,dc,ddl,ddr,vr,hd,vl,hu: 23% 15% 17% 5% 9% 10% 7% 8% 6% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] i4 v,h,dc,ddl,ddr,vr,hd,vl,hu: 31% 18% 11% 5% 9% 10% 6% 6% 4% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] i8c dc,h,v,p: 46% 18% 24% 12% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] Weighted P-Frames: Y:20.1% UV:18.7% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] ref P L0: 59.2% 23.2% 13.1% 4.3% 0.2% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] ref B L0: 88.7% 8.3% 3.0% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] ref B L1: 95.0% 5.0% [libx264 @ 0x3450140] kb/s:626.88 Received signal 2: terminating.     I finally got around to turning the syslog on for my cablemodem (Motorola Surfboard SBG6580) and I'm seeing about the expected amount of inbound attackage being blocked... 2014-05-30 21:59:02 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 31 04:58:56 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] UDP 12.230.209.198,4500 --> 66.27.xx.xx,61459 DENY:Firewall interface [IP Fragmented Packet] attack 2014-05-30 21:59:02 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 31 04:58:56 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] TCP 17.172.232.109,5223 --> 66.27.xx.xx,53814 DENY:Firewall interface access request 2014-05-30 21:59:02 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 31 04:58:57 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] UDP 12.230.209.198,443 --> 66.27.xx.xx,53385 DENY: Firewall interface [IP Fragmented Packet] attack 2014-05-30 21:59:02 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 31 04:58:57 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] UDP 12.230.209.198,4500 --> 66.27.xx.xx,61459 DENY:Firewall interface [IP Fragmented Packet] attack 2014-05-30 21:59:10 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 31 04:59:04 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] UDP 12.230.209.198,443 --> 66.27.xx.xx,59960 DENY: Firewall interface [IP Fragmented Packet] attack 2014-05-30 21:59:10 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 31 04:59:04 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] UDP 12.230.209.198,4500 --> 66.27.xx.xx,61459 DENY:Firewall interface [IP Fragmented Packet] attack ...and that's great. (Sad, but great.) But I'm also seeing a HUGE amount of what appears to be denied outbound connectivity: 2014-05-30 16:30:10 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 30 23:30:04 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] TCP 192.168.111.100,58969 --> 38.81.66.127,443 DENY: Inbound or outbound access request 2014-05-30 16:30:10 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 30 23:30:04 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] TCP 192.168.111.100,58969 --> 38.81.66.127,443 DENY: Inbound or outbound access request 2014-05-30 16:30:10 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 30 23:30:04 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] TCP 192.168.111.100,58965 --> 162.222.41.13,443 DENY: Inbound or outbound access request 2014-05-30 16:30:10 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 30 23:30:04 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] TCP 192.168.111.100,58965 --> 162.222.41.13,443 DENY: Inbound or outbound access request 2014-05-30 16:30:10 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 30 23:30:04 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] TCP 192.168.111.100,58964 --> 38.81.66.179,443 DENY: Inbound or outbound access request 2014-05-30 16:30:10 Local0.Alert 192.168.111.1 May 30 23:30:04 2014 SYSLOG[0]: [Host 192.168.111.1] TCP 192.168.111.100,58964 --> 38.81.66.179,443 DENY: Inbound or outbound access request ...and Spot checking suggests that it's all legitimate traffic (Opening connections to CrashPlan, etc.), I have no restrictions configured in the modem; I don't see why it should be blocking anything. Am I misreading the log entry, and it's not actually being denied? (Seems unlikely.) Is the ISP (TWC) pushing deny tables that are not exposed in the UI? (Tinfoil hat too tight.) I'm confused. (The good news, such as it is, is that AFAIK I'm not experiencing any actual issues... but maybe I am; tough to tell.) Thanks.

  • VMWare player - compiling server modules - Ubuntu 13.10

    - by user211976
    While running Ubuntu 13.04 whenever the Linux kernel had been updated, this used to make vmware player happy: sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) sudo vmware-modconfig --console --install-all Yesterday I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10 and lo and behold, the above workaround does not work anymore: Unable to install all modules. See log for details. I assume by "See log" it means the files in /tmp/vmware-root/*log root@hugin:/tmp/vmware-root# ls -ltr /tmp/vmware-root/ totalt 16 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3815 nov 6 13:54 vmware-apploader-17267.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 nov 6 13:54 vmware-vmis-17693.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 nov 6 13:54 vmware-vmis-17742.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 nov 6 13:54 vmware-vmis-18701.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 nov 6 13:54 vmware-vmis-18750.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 nov 6 13:54 vmware-vmis-19100.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 nov 6 13:54 vmware-vmis-19149.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9250 nov 6 13:54 vmware-modconfig-17267.log root@hugin:/tmp/vmware-root# tail /tmp/vmware-root/vmware-modconfig-17267.log 2013-11-06T13:54:28.950+01:00| modconfig| I120: Copied Module.symvers from "/tmp/modconfig-wpDrtf/vmci-only/Module.symvers" to "/tmp/modconfig-wpDrtf/vsock-only/Module.symvers". 2013-11-06T13:54:28.950+01:00| modconfig| I120: Building module with command "/usr/bin/make -j8 -C /tmp/modconfig-wpDrtf/vsock-only auto-build HEADER_DIR=/lib/modules/3.11.0-12-generic/build/include CC=/usr/bin/gcc IS_GCC_3=no" 2013-11-06T13:54:31.048+01:00| modconfig| I120: Successfully built vsock.   • How to develop RPG Damage Formulas?

    - by user127817
    I'm developing a classical 2d RPG (in a similar vein to final fantasy) and I was wondering if anyone had some advice on how to do damage formulas/links to resources/examples? I'll explain my current setup. Hopefully I'm not overdoing it with this question, and I apologize if my questions is too large/broad My Characters stats are composed of the following: enum Stat { HP = 0, MP = 1, SP = 2, Strength = 3, Vitality = 4, Magic = 5, Spirit = 6, Skill = 7, Speed = 8, //Speed/Agility are the same thing Agility = 8, Evasion = 9, MgEvasion = 10, Accuracy = 11, Luck = 12, }; Vitality is basically defense to physical attacks and spirit is defense to magic attacks. All stats have fixed maximums (9999 for HP, 999 for MP/SP and 255 for the rest). With abilities, the maximums can be increased (99999 for HP, 9999 for HP/SP, 999 for the rest) with typical values (at level 100) before/after abilities+equipment+etc will be 8000/20,000 for HP, 800/2000 for SP/MP, 180/350 for other stats Late game Enemy HP will typically be in the lower millions (with a super boss having the maximum of ~12 million). I was wondering how do people actually develop proper damage formulas that scale correctly? For instance, based on this data, using the damage formulas for Final Fantasy X as a base looked very promising. A full reference here http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/197344-final-fantasy-x/faqs/31381 but as a quick example: Str = 127, 'Attack' command used, enemy Def = 34. 1. Physical Damage Calculation: Step 1 ------------------------------------- [{(Stat^3 ÷ 32) + 32} x DmCon ÷16] Step 2 ---------------------------------------- [{(127^3 ÷ 32) + 32} x 16 ÷ 16] Step 3 -------------------------------------- [{(2048383 ÷ 32) + 32} x 16 ÷ 16] Step 4 --------------------------------------------------- [{(64011) + 32} x 1] Step 5 -------------------------------------------------------- [{(64043 x 1)}] Step 6 ---------------------------------------------------- Base Damage = 64043 Step 7 ----------------------------------------- [{(Def - 280.4)^2} ÷ 110] + 16 Step 8 ------------------------------------------ [{(34 - 280.4)^2} ÷ 110] + 16 Step 9 ------------------------------------------------- [(-246)^2) ÷ 110] + 16 Step 10 ---------------------------------------------------- [60516 ÷ 110] + 16 Step 11 ------------------------------------------------------------ [550] + 16 Step 12 ---------------------------------------------------------- DefNum = 566 Step 13 ---------------------------------------------- [BaseDmg * DefNum ÷ 730] Step 14 --------------------------------------------------- [64043 * 566 ÷ 730] Step 15 ------------------------------------------------------ [36248338 ÷ 730] Step 16 ------------------------------------------------- Base Damage 2 = 49655 Step 17 ------------ Base Damage 2 * {730 - (Def * 51 - Def^2 ÷ 11) ÷ 10} ÷ 730 Step 18 ---------------------- 49655 * {730 - (34 * 51 - 34^2 ÷ 11) ÷ 10} ÷ 730 Step 19 ------------------------- 49655 * {730 - (1734 - 1156 ÷ 11) ÷ 10} ÷ 730 Step 20 ------------------------------- 49655 * {730 - (1734 - 105) ÷ 10} ÷ 730 Step 21 ------------------------------------- 49655 * {730 - (1629) ÷ 10} ÷ 730 Step 22 --------------------------------------------- 49655 * {730 - 162} ÷ 730 Step 23 ----------------------------------------------------- 49655 * 568 ÷ 730 Step 24 -------------------------------------------------- Final Damage = 38635 I simply modified the dividers to include the attack rating of weapons and the armor rating of armor. Magic Damage is calculated as follows: Mag = 255, Ultima is used, enemy MDef = 1 Step 1 ----------------------------------- [DmCon * ([Stat^2 ÷ 6] + DmCon) ÷ 4] Step 2 ------------------------------------------ [70 * ([255^2 ÷ 6] + 70) ÷ 4] Step 3 ------------------------------------------ [70 * ([65025 ÷ 6] + 70) ÷ 4] Step 4 ------------------------------------------------ [70 * (10837 + 70) ÷ 4] Step 5 ----------------------------------------------------- [70 * (10907) ÷ 4] Step 6 ------------------------------------ Base Damage = 190872 [cut to 99999] Step 7 ---------------------------------------- [{(MDef - 280.4)^2} ÷ 110] + 16 Step 8 ------------------------------------------- [{(1 - 280.4)^2} ÷ 110] + 16 Step 9 ---------------------------------------------- [{(-279.4)^2} ÷ 110] + 16 Step 10 -------------------------------------------------- [(78064) ÷ 110] + 16 Step 11 ------------------------------------------------------------ [709] + 16 Step 12 --------------------------------------------------------- MDefNum = 725 Step 13 --------------------------------------------- [BaseDmg * MDefNum ÷ 730] Step 14 --------------------------------------------------- [99999 * 725 ÷ 730] Step 15 ------------------------------------------------- Base Damage 2 = 99314 Step 16 ---------- Base Damage 2 * {730 - (MDef * 51 - MDef^2 ÷ 11) ÷ 10} ÷ 730 Step 17 ------------------------ 99314 * {730 - (1 * 51 - 1^2 ÷ 11) ÷ 10} ÷ 730 Step 18 ------------------------------ 99314 * {730 - (51 - 1 ÷ 11) ÷ 10} ÷ 730 Step 19 --------------------------------------- 99314 * {730 - (49) ÷ 10} ÷ 730 Step 20 ----------------------------------------------------- 99314 * 725 ÷ 730 Step 21 -------------------------------------------------- Final Damage = 98633 The problem is that the formulas completely fall apart once stats start going above 255. In particular Defense values over 300 or so start generating really strange behavior. High Strength + Defense stats lead to massive negative values for instance. While I might be able to modify the formulas to work correctly for my use case, it'd probably be easier just to use a completely new formula. How do people actually develop damage formulas? I was considering opening excel and trying to build the formula that way (mapping Attack Stats vs. Defense Stats for instance) but I was wondering if there's an easier way? While I can't convey the full game mechanics of my game here, might someone be able to suggest a good starting place for building a damage formula? Thanks

  • How to Build Services from Legacy Applications

    - by Chris Falter
    The SOA consultants invaded the executive suite at your company or agency, preached the true religion, and converted the unbelievers. Now by divine imperative you must convert your legacy applications into a suite of reusable services.  But as usual, you lack the time and resources that you need in order to develop the services properly.  So you googled or bing’ed, found this blog post, and began crying in gratitude.  Yes, as the title implies, I am going to reveal my easy, 3-step, works-every-time process for converting silos of legacy applications into the inventory of services your CIO has been dreaming about.  So just close your eyes and count to 3 … now open them … and here it is…. Not. While wishful thinking is too often the coin of the IT realm, even the most naive practitioner knows that converting legacy applications into reusable services requires more than a magic wand.  The reason is simple: if your starting point is your legacy applications, then you will simply be bolting a web service technology layer on top of your legacy API.  And that legacy API is built in the image of the silo applications.  Enter the wide gate of the legacy API, follow the broad path of generating service interfaces from existing code, and you will arrive at the siloed enterprise destruction that you thought you were escaping. The Straight and Narrow Path This past week I had the opportunity to learn how the FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems department has been transitioning from silo applications to a service inventory.  Lafe Hutcheson, IT Specialist in the architecture group and fellow attendee at an SOA Architect Certification Workshop, was my guide.  Lafe has survived the chaos of an SOA initiative, so it is not surprising that he was able to return from a US Army deployment to Kabul, Afghanistan with nary a scratch.  According to Lafe, building their service inventory is a three-phase process: Model a business process.  This requires intense collaboration between the IT and business wings of the organization, of course.  The FBI uses IBM Websphere tools to model the process with BPMN. Identify candidate services to facilitate the business process. Convert the BPMN to an executable BPEL orchestration, model and develop the services, and use a BPEL engine to run the process.  The FBI uses ActiveVOS for orchestration services. The 12 Step Program to End Your Legacy API Addiction Thomas Erl has documented a process for building a web service inventory that is quite similar to the FBI process. Erl’s process adds a technology architecture definition phase, which allows for the technology environment to influence the inventory blueprint.  For example, if you are using an enterprise service bus, you will probably not need to build your own utility services for logging or intermediate routing.  Erl also lists a service-oriented analysis phase that highlights the 12-step process of applying the principles of service orientation to modeling your services.  Erl depicts the modeling of a service inventory as an iterative process: model a business process, define the relevant technology architecture, define the service inventory blueprint, analyze the services, then model another business process, rinse and repeat.  (Astute readers will note that Erl’s diagram, restricted to analysis and modeling process, does not include the implementation phase that concludes the FBI service development methodology.) The service-oriented analysis phase is where you find the 12 steps that will free you from your legacy API addiction. In a nutshell, you identify the steps in the process that need services; identify the different types of services (agnostic entity services, service compositions, and utility services) that are required; apply service-orientation principles; and normalize the inventory into cohesive service models. Rather than discuss each of the 12 steps individually, I will close by simply referring my readers to Erl’s explanation.

    Next Generation Mobile Clients for Oracle Applications & the role of Oracle Fusion Middleware | Manish Palaparthy Manish Palaparthy examines some of Oracle's mobile applications, and takes a look at the underlying technology. Master Data Management: A Foundation for Big Data Analysis | Manouj Tahiliani "Businesses that have embraced MDM to get a single, enriched and unified view of Master data by resolving semantic discrepancies and augmenting the explicit master data information from within the enterprise with implicit data from outside the enterprise like social profiles will have a leg up in embracing Big Data solutions. This is especially true for large and medium-sized businesses in industries like Retail, Communications, Financial Services, etc that would find it very challenging to get comprehensive analytical coverage and derive long-term success without resolving the limitations of the heterogeneous topology that leads to disparate, fragmented and incomplete master data." — Manouj Tahiliani Architect Day: Boston - Agenda Update Here's the latest updated information on the session schedule and content for Oracle Technology Network Architect Day in Boston, MA on September 12, 2012. Integrating Coherence & Java EE 6 Applications using ActiveCache | Ricardo Ferreira The seamless integration between Oracle Coherence and Oracle WebLogic Server "provides a comprehensive environment to develop applications without the complexity of extra Java code to manage cache as a dependency," explains Ricardo Ferreira, "since Oracle provides a DI (Dependency Injection) mechanism for Coherence, the same DI mechanism available in standard Java EE applications. This feature is called ActiveCache." Ricardo shows you how to configure ActiveCache in WebLogic and your Java EE application. Cloud Infrastructure has a new standard from the DMTF "Unlike a de facto standard where typically one vendor has change control over the interface, and everyone else has to reverse engineer the inner workings of it, [Cloud Infrastructure Management Interface (CIMI)] is a de jure standard that is under change control of a standards body. One reason the standard took two years to create is that we factored in use cases, requirements and contributed APIs from multiple vendors. These vendors have products shipping today and as a result CIMI has a strong foundation in real world experience." Oracle GoldenGate 11g Release Launch Webcast- September 12 The new release of Oracle GoldenGate 11g is now available for major databases and platforms. Speakers: Doug Reid (Director, Product Management, Oracle GoldenGate), Irem Radzik (Director, Product Marketing, Oracle Data Integration Products) Thought for the Day "[When] asking skilled architects…what they do when confronted with highly complex problems… [they] would most likely answer, 'Just use Common Sense.' [A] better expression than 'common sense' is 'contextual sense'—a knowledge of what is reasonable within a given context. Practicing architects through eduction, experience and examples accumulate a considerable body of contextual sense by the time they're entrusted with solving a system-level problem…" — Eberhardt Rechtin (January 16, 1926 – April 14, 2006) Source: SoftwareQuotes.com
