• Multiple interfaces to one IP address?

  At present, I have: a Netgear router with DHCP off at 192.168.0.1 my computer eth0 at 192.168.0.2 wlan0 at 192.168.0.2 The wlan0 interface always connects to the router, while the eth0 interface connects to other computers with crossover and acts as a dnsmasq DHCP server for network boot and installation. If I use the Gnome NetworkManager to enable both connections, that is, with wlan0 connected to the router/internet and eth0 to another computer, both as 192.168.0.2, I cannot access the internet while eth0 is connected. Why is this? How can I configure my computer to follow wlan0 for Internet usage, but use eth0 for itself (the latter is working but blocking wlan0).

• Can't access DD-WRT set in DHCP forwarder

  This might sound amazingly stupid but I have a DD-WRT (micro) router that I placed in my network to act as a switch and as a WAP while relying on my cable modem to be the DHCP server. In my attempts to get the configuration right I put the router into DHCP forwarder which then made everything work correctly. The problem is now I can't seem to connect to the router in any fashion to add mac addresses to the WAP access list. Is there something I'm missing or do I need to try a hard reset on it and reconfigure everything?

• Netgear WNR1000 WiFi speed

  I have Netgear WNR1000 150N, Macbook Pro 13" with Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0, Network connection 60mbps When I connect through the cable I easily get around 60mbps. When I go through the WiFi it's capable to get only 32mbps at tops. Any ideas why is that? Is that my router limitation or maybe my WiFi card? If it is routers fault what router would you suggest. • Connect to development server via switch?

  I apologize upfront if this isn't appropriate for superuser. I asked it on serverfault and was told it was too general for that site. I have a laptop with Vista and it receives it's internet connection wireless. I have an old desktop with Ubuntu 10.04 Server Edition installed and it is setup as a development server with Apache, MySQL, and PHP. This works well, with the server having a static IP address. The server is connected to the router via an Ethernet cable. Is it possible to disconnect the cable that is currently connecting the server and the router, then connect the server and workstation to a switch, so that I am still able to connect to the server via web browser from the workstation? I am trying to eliminate the long ethernet cable connecting the server to the router in the other room. I already have a switch, that is why I asked specifically about it. • faking NAT with a VMware distributed switch across multiple hosts

  I need to construct a NAT for certain machines within the network. Wish to do this with dvSwitch - as it seems the logical way of attacking the problem as in this scenario there's just under 30 hosts. In order for the NAT'ed VM's to have access to the 'real' network. I am providing a 'router' VM, which will have access to the WAN/outside network, and also act as the DHCP server for the NAT'ed machines. Problem Space When the machines connected to the NAT interface and the router are on the same host, then they get an IP from the router VM, and work perfectly (routed outside). Unfortunately machines on other Hosts that are connected to the dvSwitch do not get an IP and further tcpdump shows no network data getting through across the hosts within the dvSwitch. Has anyone achieved a NAT solution using a dvSwitch before that they could share?! Thank you. EDIT: Including the diagram.

• Forwarding wifi traffic to wired pc

  I'm trying to play around with Wireshark on my home network, and was wondering if there is a way to create a new connection on my PC that receives all wifi packets on the network. The PC is a wired Windows 7 machine, and I'm using DD-WRT on an Asus RT-N16 router. I'm not trying to hack anything, I have full admin access to the router itself. My searching has led me to articles about client bridges and repeater bridges, but none of them seemed to apply entirely to my situation. I'd like to continue using my standard wifi connection, but make my PC act as a repeater that receives all wifi traffic. Again, the PC has no wireless connection. I've used tcpdump which is installed on the router itself, but I'd be more comfortable analyzing the packets in Windows, as I'm trying to learn Wireshark. Thanks

• Hyper-V management remotely

  I'll tell you in advance that I'm newbie in the topic. I have a Win8 (Home) machine with Hyper-V installed behind a router. The router has a public IP and a domain attached. I have another Win8 (Work) machine also installed Hyper-V. I want to access to my home Hyper-V via Hyper-V Manager so I can manage my virtual machines from work. I found this article but I don't know if it's applicable to me. I thought that a simple port forwarding should work and I only need to do is grant the Work HV manager my domain and the port I choose and if it's pop a login form I only need to fill the user data of my Home computer? How can I solve this? My thoughts revolve around: - Port forwarding - set domain+port and set my home user - Set up a VPN and use the local ip address of my home computer (it looks like a little cumbersome and my router only support PPTP) I'm open to any other solution too.   I have this weird problem with a Ventrilo server software running in my linux machine. If I connect the server inside my local network, messages keep lagging etc. But users joining the server outside my network do not experience any problems. So the question is, how can I trick the software inside the local network to make me appear as joining from external network. Do I need some proxy running in some external network machine? Does someone offer this kind of service? All the problems started when I changed my router so I guess it has something to do with the new router, but I haven't found a solution by changing settings in my router so I try to fix this in some other way.

• Windows 7 Wireless Network Adapter Stopped Working

  I have a Windows 7 Ultimate machine where the wireless adapter all of a sudden started having trouble connecting to wireless networks. Whenever I go to a new place and try to connect to a wireless network, it says that the DNS server is not responding, and tells me to go unplug the router and try again. After several locations in a row telling me this, I began to realize something was wrong with my adapter, not the routers. I am no longer asked to identify the security level for any new networks (Work, Home, or Public) like I used to be (it defaults to Public now - with the park bench icon). Often, resetting the router doesn't even work. Running the Windows 7 troubleshooter doesn't give me anything better than the advice to reset the router. However, the adapter will still connect to the wireless network at my main office without any problems. Does anyone know why a wireless network adapter can get so finicky so suddenly? Thanks!

  I have Asterisk/1.8.13.1 Asterisk GUI-version : SVN--r Yes, quite old one, but I can not update it since this is installed on my Synology NAS. NAS is connected to internet thru router Asus RT-N16. I should use the following data to connect to the server: Auth name – 7499952XXXX User name/User ID/Display Name – nickname Authorization user name - [email protected] Domain - sip.beeline.ru SIP proxy server - msk.sip.beeline.ru I've also found the following string: [email protected]:password:[email protected]@msk.sip.beeline.ru:5060/7499952XXXX I've tested the parameters on my PC thru X-Lite and it works well (so, assume there is no any problem with the router, no need to do anything with router's NAS settings). But since I am quite new to Asterisk, I can not understand where to input all these data. Asterisk GUI doesn't have fields for proxy: Can somebody please help me with step-by-step instruction? • How to prevent dial up networking connection window from coming up on Windows 7?

  I have PPP over Ethernet connection at home, so I have a dial up connection set up which comes up every time when I log in, so I can connect to the net by clicking on it. This works fine, but now I got a router which does the connection automatically, so there is no need for the dial up networking connecting window to come up. Nevertheless it comes up everytime when I log in regardless of the living net connection already established by the router. It does not cause any error I only have to cancel the dialog, but it's a nuisance and I can't find any setting to make it stop. Of course, I could remove the networking connection altogether, but I'd rather keep it, so I don't have to create it again if sometimes I need to connect to the net directly without the router. Is there a way to stop the connection dialog from coming up without removing the networking connection?

• Lagging digital tv over ethernet

  I have a HD Home Run TV over ethernet device, which connects the aerial to my router, and from there the router connects to my PC over about 15m of 100Mbps ethernet cable. The TV output lags every second. It does not do so for a computer much closer to the router. It is odd to me that the network rate is around 7Mbps on a 100Mbps cable. I am not downloading or streaming anything else on the affected computer. Is this lag caused by the speed of the cable, the length of the cable, or interference on the cable? I am considering swapping the ethernet cable with shielded ethernet cable.

  I have two Mac notebooks at home, I have assigned them static private IPs. I have also set my router to a DynDNS address, which updates everytime my router gets a new public IP. I have enabled Screen Sharing on both notebooks. I can successfully goto my router webpage using the DynDNS address. I understand I need to port-forward to get Screen Sharing to work from outside. Lets assume, notebooks have private IP 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 I am kind of lost here, would appreciate some help (I need to be able remote desktop to both notebooks)

  I have a box setup as a router using Iptables (masquerade), logging all network traffic. The problem: Connections from LAN IPs to WAN show fine, i.e. SRC=192.168.32.10 - DST=60.242.67.190 but for traffic coming from WAN to LAN it will show the WAN IP as the source, but the routers IP as the destination, then the router - LAN IP. I.e. SRC=60.242.67.190 - DST=192.168.32.199 SRC=192.168.32.199(router) - DST=192.168.32.10 How do I configure it so that it logs the conversations correctly? • How to get started setting up IP security cameras

  I have just finished renovating my house. As part of the job, I have cat6 cable run through the house, including two external plugs. All cables terminate in the same location. My rough plan is to plug two IP cameras to monitor the front and rear, run POE from a central router to the two external cameras, plug my PC into the same router and run magic software X. Any machine plugged into the router or wirelessly connection should then be able to get a live feed and alerts based on motion detection. That's the plan, but I'm not sure how possible it is. What hardware to get and what monitoring software to get. Has anyone does something similar? What were your experiences?

• Can a switch consume bandwidth?

  I have a network with a router and a switch. At first my ISP's optical fiber is connected with media converter input port. Than Ethernet cable (output port of Media converter) is connected with the switch. Then an output Ethernet cable is connected with our inner Microtik router. Then this router is connected with another LAN switch. From this switch we have got every connection other switch. It is our total network structure. Our bandwidth is 2 Mbps. From the 11th of March our MRTG graph shows high all the time even when my all switch is switched off except LAN switch. That's why our line is breaking up (Voice call). How could be it possible? My all PC's bandwidth is limited but when connected PC with media converter directly then the graph shows normal. That's why I can't blame my ISP.

• Dial-in VPN Routing issue when on 192.168.x.x network range

  I'm not an expert on networks but have a small office on the 192.168.x.x. range which is managed by a vigor (2800) router. I have enabled the VPN dial-in option on the router so I can get to the server on 192.168.1.100 which works fine from my macbook when i'm NOT on a local network with that is on the 192.168.x.x range. e.g. works fine when I tether over my Android smartphone but when I try & connect when on my home network, it connects, I can access the router (192.168.1.1) but cannot access 192.168.1.100 - traceroute doesn't hop via 192.168.1.1 I have enabled "send all traffic over VPN connection but again, not joy... Feels like the osx platform isn't routing the traffic out to the vpn endpoint as the destination address is on the local subnet but expect it would be. This work fine on a windows PC on the same home network. Any thoughts on what the issue could be?

• Network Drive Via Ethernet Port for Speed?

  I have a Macbook with Firewire 400 and USB 2.0, so the only way I can get fast external storage is through the Ethernet port. A really fast firewire 800 drive on ANOTHER computer is actually much faster than the built-in drive (according to XBench). So I thought I would try to go one better and buy an ethernet-ready drive. I bought a Seagate GoFlex™ Home Network Storage System, and it seems like the only way to get it to work is to plug it into a router. Can this drive be used without a router (i.e., direct to computer)? Are there any drives that can be plugged directly into the ethernet port for fast access? I don't want the drive on my router: I want it on my computer. Ideally I'd need 7200rpm or faster, too... Update: Just chatted with Seagate and they said that this particular drive will not work that way. Will any others?

• How do I get a 300Mbps connection over 802.11n?

  I just bought a new wireless setup, consisting of a Cisco E2000 router, Edimax 7718un USB adapter for my laptop and an Edimax 7728in PCI adapter for my HTPC (which isn't in a location I can run cat5 to). I have to stay in the 2.4GHz band because I have an iPhone and a Wii that will need to connect. I'm aware that 11g devices will drop speeds for 11n devices, but they aren't connected yet. The fastest connection I've been able to get, with the router within 5 feet of either the laptop or HTPC is 144Mbps. The router has settings for "20MHz" and "Auto (20 MHz or 40Mhz) channel width, which I've set to the "Auto" setting. I haven't been able to find anything similar for either of the Edimax adapters. This is the first I've dealt with 11n, so I'm not even sure what else could be causing a problem. How do I get up to 300Mbps, or at least a fair bit closer?

• Uploading with browser makes all other browser tabs and devices disconnect

  Whenever I upload a video to YouTube all other browser tabs behave like there is no connection at all. It even affects my phone and other computers on the network therefor I think it has to do with my router. When the upload is done everything works normally again. I never observed this behavior with any other upload. My router is a Fritz!Box 7390 and my uploading PC is connected through a 1000mb/s switch (wired) to the router. Uploading through another browser does not change anything. I understand that other sites become slow as the network resources are limited, but stopping altogether feels wrong. speed.io measures for my internet connection: 40.894 Kbit/s down, 2.685 Kbit/s up, 29 ms ping, 2.048 con/m connects

  I have a trouble, configuring a home network. Here is how my devices are connected together: Internet     ? Wi-Fi Router ? MacBook     ? iMac ?ethernet cable? Synology NAS I have no ability to plugin NAS right into the Wi-Fi router. The problem is that MacBook does not see NAS, because they are in different networks — I configured Wi-Fi Router to serve 192.168.10.0/24 addresses, and configured iMac's ethernet connection to use 192.168.20/24 network. Is there a way to setup route from MacBook to the NAS?

• HP Media Smart remote access

  I just purchased this box for home backups for my pc's and mac's. Everything works great accept for the remote access part. I can RD into the machine locally but I can't get to it from outside of my network. I've enabled port forwarding on my router but it doesn't seem to matter. I checked with Qwest and they don't block these ports so I'm at a loss. I do have Vonage in front of my router but I've taken it out and it didn't make a difference. I suspect I've made an error with my router setup. I'm a programmer and I'm playing in the world of the unknown here. I'm lost. Any suggestions?
