• Can only ssh when not using wifi

  So I have 3 machines, a windows 7 desktop that is always wired to my router, osX laptop, and raspberry pi running debian linux. My router is a Linksys e1000 wireless N. My goal is to be able to ssh the raspi from any machine, while it is connected via wifi. My problem is that when trying to ssh from either the win7 or osX to the Pi it either times out, or gives an error: "ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.### port 22: No route to host" The only times that I have managed to connect to the pi from any machine were when it connected to the router via an Ethernet cable. Currently with win7 desktop wired, macbook wireless, and pi wireless tests give the following: win7 ping macbook: Destination host unreachable. macbook ping win7: Request timeout. win7 ping pi: Destination host unreachable. macbook ping pi: Request timeout. blah blah blah Plugging the macbook into the router with an Ethernet cable all communication between win7 and macbook works. Pings, ssh, ftp, smb ect... No changes to the pi, still no connections possible to or from any of the other 2 machines. Note All machines, are able to connect to the internet and ssh to the same machine on a completely different network, wired or over wifi. Plugging the Pi in with Ethernet (and macbook still wired) I can ssh to the pi from both win7 and macbook. I can ssh from the pi to macbook. All machines still able to connect the the off network machine. Also another little side note- I was playing warcraft 3 with my roommates the other day, and the only time they were able to see my LAN game was when they were plugged into the router with an Ethernet cable. Once or twice one of the laptops was able to connect over wifi, but not without another computer connecting first via Ethernet. So basically does anyone have any info as to why my router seems to completely ignore local wireless traffic?

• Internet keeps connecting and disconnecting

  I have a PC running 32bit Windows 7 Professional. My wireless internet card is Edimax EW-7128G, it is inside my computer case and it is connected to an antenna. My problem is: I have a wireless connection to my router, the signal is fine and it's not slow or anything, but it just keeps disconnecting every 30 seconds or so, then connects back, then it disconnects, then connects back and so on. This is new - it only started about a week ago, everything worked just fine until then. I know it's not a problem with the router because: Other computers can connect to it easily and they work just fine, no disconnections (My phone too). I know it's not a problem with the computer or the wireless card itself because: I have Ubuntu installed side-by-side with my Windows, and when I switch to Ubuntu the internet works great. This caused me to think it's probably a problem with the wireless card drivers installed on windows (Ubuntu auto-installed them, I installed them manually on windows): I tried uninstalling them, and then installing them back again, sadly that didn't help. I'm kind of lost here - can anyone think of anything else I should try? Thanks :)

• Android: ListActivity design - changing the content of the List Adapter

  Hi, I would like to write a rather simple content application which displays a list of textual items (along with a small pic). I have a standard menu in which each menu item represents a different category of textual items (news, sports, leisure etc.). Pressing a menu item will display a list of textual items of this category. Now, having a separate ListActivity for each category seems like an overkill (or does it?..) Naturally, it makes much more sense to use one ListActivity and replace the data of its adapter when each category is loaded. My concern is when "back" is pressed. The adapter is loaded with items of the current category and now I need to display list of the previous category (and enable clicking on list items too...). Since I have only one activity - I thought of backup and load mechanism in onPause() and onResume() functions as well as making some distinction whether these function are invoked as a result of a "new" event (menu item selected) or by a "back" press. This seems very cumbersome for such a trivial usage... Am I missing something here? Thanks, Rob

• Very very slow transfer speeds between Windows 7 and samba server running on Ubuntu 11.10/12.04 minimal

• How to switch off wifi on startup or from the console

  I have installed ubuntu 10.04 on a laptop. Wifi is switched on by default on startup. I can disable it rightclicking the network manager icon in the gnome bar. How can I set it to have wifi switched off as default? Alternatively, how can I switch off wifi on the console? I tried already the rfkill command but it does not list any devices and it does not switch off wifi, I tried different parameters. This is a standard install of the Ubuntu 10.04 i386 Desktop Live CD on an IBM T40 Laptop. I have to switch it off and on again on the applet to switch it on again, when I switched it off from the console. Is there a better way? • 13.10 upgrade dropping wifi [on hold]

  Almost a complete newb here. After my last upgrade from 12.04 to 13.10 my wifi now randomly drops. The only way I can get a signal back is a shutdown and restart otherwise it shows no network is even available to connect to. Had no problems until the upgrade. Any help would be appreciated. • Wifi problems with Ubuntu 13.10

  I should probably say straight off that I am brand new to Ubuntu. I installed 13.10 alongside Windows 7 a couple of days ago and I've managed to clear up all the little problems, apart from with the wifi. My internet is fine using an ethernet cable. I can connect to the wifi, and it tells me that the signal is good, but for the vast majority of the time I can't load anything, and system monitor tells me that I am sending and receiving nothing. The problem is somewhere in Ubuntu. It works fine on Windows 7, my Android phone and all of my flatmates laptops. I know I'm not the only one with this problem, but the fixes I've seen either don't work or I don't understand them enough to carry them out. Help? • SD to PCI adapter

  We are looking for a way to plug a SD card into a PCI slot without going through a USB interface. We want to read the SD card's serial number directly and issue SD commands. The Chumby and the Google Android G1 phones both have SD slots that you can read from Linux without going through USB, but the Chumby only has a single SD card that's used for booting, and the G1 doesn't have any other reasonable storage if you use the SD card for that purpose. I'd really like a desktop with a few SD slots that are directly accessible. Anybody know of anything??

  I have a ThinkPad T530 with Mini DP++ and NVS 5400M, which are said to support 2560 * 1600 resolution. The display is Dell 3007WFP, which also supports 2560 * 1600. But, I have never seen any cables or adapters that can connect them with full support to 2560 * 1600. Do you have any idea? THANK YOU! In addition, I found that mDP++ means I can use a passive adapter. No need for active adapter which is much more expensive. This is the only one that meets my needs, but it is not sold in the US. And this one seems to be OK, but I am not sure because it says "2.5 Gbps per channel", which may not be enough.

• IDE <-> SATA Adapter Issue - Hard Drive Not recognized

  I was trying to use one of these IDE to SATA adapters (Syba SD-ADA50016 IDE/SATA Converter Bi-directional IDE to SATA) and I connected a working hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 500 GB SATA 3.5 Inch 7200 RPM Version 12 Desktop Internal Hard Drive ST3500418AS). I could get the drive to be recognized by the BIOS, but I couldn't boot a Linux disc or install to the drive. I tried to install pfSense to this drive and the install failed because the setup couldn't recognize the file. Has anyone heard of these adapters giving trouble and/or not working properly? I would like to be able to use this device for newer drives on older boards.

• VirtualBox reinstalling & updating has left me with Too Many Network Adapters. How Do i remove them?

  I have too many network adapters. I have had to reinstall, repair VirtualBox a few times, and I have three NICs in my laptop. I definitely don't need to have 14 bridged networking drivers though, and I cannot uninstall them. I only want to keep the new ones that came with VirtualBox 4.1.20. When I go into the registry there are tons of places with these adapters. I have searched online up to 10 pages of Google, and VirtualBox forums, and no one has mentioned this problem nor explained how to delete these annoying extra network adapters. Please offer some assistance or at least tell me how anybody else has dealt with this. I only need 1 host-only network adapter, 1 bridged networking adapter for each of my network cards. • Enable/Disable a network adapter with a keyboard shortcut

  I started out trying to use a shortcut to display the Local Area Connection Status window on my desktop by creating a shortcut and assigning it Ctrl+, (comma). Windows didn't like that, so it added Alt, which ended up being Ctrl+Alt++,. Since I couldn't figure out a way to eliminate Alt as part of the shortcut keys, I am now trying a different strategy and it's not working. My latest attempt is to use AutoHotkey with the following command: ^,::Run, explorer ::{BA126ADB-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E} Which is what the shortcut target number is, but it won't open the window.

• Can't transfer images from a camera connected to usb2 port on a pcmcia adapter

  I have an old laptop (HP OmniBook vt6200, WinXp pro, sp2) that only has usb1 ports. Transferring pictures from a digital camera is too slow, so I thought of trying one of those pccards carrying usb2 ports (D-Link Dub C2 in my case). Connecting the camera to one of the ports on the pccard, Picasa seems to freeze trying to read the camera contents, until I either disconnect the camera or the pccard. Any idea on what's wrong?

• Messenger Thinks My Ip is Invalid

  Hello. I am using Windows Live Messenger 2009 on Windows 7. I am using a 3G modem (ZTE Propietary USB Modem) I connect to the Internet using a software my ISP provided me. In last three days, my Messenger started to disconnect. Here is what I observed and tried to do: 1- I can browse web, can do FTP transfer etc. and obiviously have a valid IP. 2- I can sign in to Messenger (appear offline) but when I change my status to anything other then appear offline, Messenger says my connection to service has been lost. (However, it exists.) 3- When I run, MSN Connection Troubleshooter, it says my IP is invalid. When I click repair, it says repaired and just after that, I run the troubleshooter again, and it says my IP is invalid again. (However, it is valid and I am browsing the net.) 4- If I connect the Internet through eterhet or wireless there is no problem at all. 5- I re-installed Messenger (deleting all settings manually through registry and folders), re-installed all drivers and software related to USB 3G Modem. It doesn't work. And then, I took a full backup then formatted entire computer, installed a fresh windows 7, after 5 minutes, the same problem occured. What do you recommend? What can I do? • Enabling the log app on the WDTV

  Just flashed the last WDXLTV firmware on my WDTV and it's working fine. I tried to config a Wifi USB adapter but couldn't get it to work. Dropped the log-saver.app.bin on the root of the stick but didn't find any log files after booting. What I'm doing is turning on the WDTV with the stick inserted (the stick is formatted with FAT32). Tried with the wireless-mod.app.bin required files and without any other file than the log saver. I can't get a log file anyway. All I want right now is to get the log file so I can debug the WI FI adapter.

• Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Sound Stopped Working

  I have cancelled cable and want to watch the NCAA tournament games on my TV tonight through my 2011 Macbook Pro where I can stream the game in a browser. I have a cheap Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI converter that I have connected to my TV in the past and had no issues with audio or video, the problem is the audio has stopped working since the last time I used it a few months ago and now just keeps playing through the laptop speakers, but the video works fine. Everything with my setup is the same and when I try to force the audio output to the TV in the Audio system settings, my TV is not listed as an output option at all. I have tried various combinations of power cycling, replugging-in both devices and making sure the TV options are set properly to receive audio through HDMI but no luck. Anyone know what the issue could be?

• How can I connect a SAS drive to USB? [closed]

  I have a Dell T710 with Seagate Cheetah 15k.7 SAS disks. If the T710 motherboard dies, I'll need to resort to one of my nightly off-site backups and salvage the journal/logfile from the SAS disk to bring the backup bang up-to-date. I need a way of reading the healthy-but-inaccessible SAS disc that does not depend on the only SAS-capable machine I have to hand. So I bought: SAS to SATA Adapter and: USB 2.0 to SATA Adapter with Power ...so that I could read the SAS drive via USB. I can plug it all together just fine. The chain looks like: USB - SATA - SAS. But the drive does not spin up and the computer doesn't even acknowledge anything being attached by USB. Is there a cheap external enclosure I can buy for SAS drives? I can't believe these USB to SATA adapters are everywhere but the USB to SAS adapters are almost non-existent...

• Windows Server 2008 R2 network adapter stops working, requires hard reboot

  TL;DR version: Turns out this was a Windows Server 2008 R2 kernel networking bug. After siccing Microsoft support on it, we (eventually) got an unpublished kernel hotfix from Microsoft to address it. If you, too, are experiencing mysterious low-level network driver failures requiring a reboot/bluescreen cycle, you might want that hotfix (or maybe Service Pack 1 whenever it is released, too.) We have been using HAProxy along with heartbeat from the Linux-HA project. We are using two linux instances to provide a failover. Each server has with their own public IP and a single IP which is shared between the two using a virtual interface (eth1:1) at IP: 69.59.196.211 The virtual interface (eth1:1) IP 69.59.196.211 is configured as the gateway for the windows servers behind them and we use ip_forwarding to route traffic. We are experiencing an occasional network outage on one of our windows servers behind our linux gateways. HAProxy will detect the server is offline which we can verify by remoting to the failed server and attempting to ping the gateway: Pinging 69.59.196.211 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 69.59.196.220: Destination host unreachable. Swapping network cards and switches I noticed the link light on the port of the switch for the failed windows server was running at 100Mb instead of 1Gb on the failed interface. I moved the cable to several other open ports and the link indicated 100Mb for each port that I tried. I also swapped the cable with the same result. I tried changing the properties of the network card in windows and the server locked up and required a hard reset after clicking apply. This windows server has two physical network interfaces so I have swapped the cables and network settings on the two interfaces to see if the problem follows the interface. If the public interface goes down again we will know that it is not an issue with the network card. (We also tried another switch we have on hand, no change) Changing network hardware driver versions We've had the same problem with the latest Broadcom driver, as well as the built-in driver that ships in Windows Server 2008 R2. Replacing network cables As a last ditch effort we remembered another change that occurred was the replacement of all of the patch cords between our servers / switch. We had purchased two sets, one green of lengths 1ft - 3ft for the private interfaces and another set of red cables for the public interfaces. We swapped out all of the public interface patch cables with a different brand and ran our servers without issue for a full week ... aaaaaand then the problem recurred. Disable checksum offload, remove TProxy We also tried disabling TCP/IP checksum offload in the driver, no change. We're now pulling out TProxy and moving to a more traditional x-forwarded-for network arrangement without any fancy IP address rewriting. We'll see if that helps. Switch Virtualization providers On the off chance this was related to Hyper-V in some way (we do host Linux VMs on it), we switched to VMWare Server. No change. Switch host model We've reached the end of our troubleshooting rope and are now formally involving Microsoft support. • Same SCSI drive appears multiple times on the controller list

  Hi, I have an Adaptec AHA-2940UW SCSI adapter, to which I connected a single Atlas 10K III drive (and nothing more). When my computer loads up, the pre-OS Adaptec screen shows (I believe this is called the POST screen), where I can see the Atlas drive listed many times (i.e. with ID0, ID1, ... ID5, ID7, ID8,...,ID15 [ID6 is the adapter itself]) Using the same HD on an Adaptec AHA-2940UB the disk only shows once Since my OS hasn't been installed yet, I'm not sure if this is a problem (I would guess it is), and if so - how to solve it. Termination and multiple LUNs come mind, but the cable provides termination and I don't see why a hard drive would request multiple LUNs, especially considering it is not jumpered at all, and multuple LUN support is disabled in the Adaptec controller BIOS (via the SCSISelect utility) Thank you

• 2.5" SSD in a 3.5" desktop drive bay normal?

  I'm a little out of touch with modern desktop builds, but I recently built a new machine anyway. I want to pick up a SSD for my I/O intensive apps (EverQuest 2 and Flash CS4 mostly), but I'm having trouble finding any in the 3.5" form factor. Is this expected, or do I fail at product search? And, if it is expected, do 2.5" SSDs come with an adapter to fit them in my desktop machine, or will I need to purchase one separately? And, finally, if I do need to purchase an adapter, are they pretty standard or are some better than others. General advice is most welcomed, though specific product recommendations in addition would be helpful!

• Cisco VPN Client on Vista - Virtual Adapter

  I have used the Cisco VPN client for years, and on XP it is pretty much rock solid, on Vista, not so much. You might be able to connect, but unless you set up a constant ping to something, it usually will disconnect, with this error: Reason 442: Failed to enable Virtual Adapater Now, most sysadmins will say, update you client - yes, I know, it hasnt mitigated the issue, ever. I have been using it on Vista since it came out, and updated my client every time a new update comes out. I have used it where the VPN server was a Cisco PIX and a Windows Box allowing the Cisco Client to connect. Anyone have any fixes that you can do on your client to fix this issue?

• Installing sharepoint web service disabled when trying to install BizTalk adapter

  I have a MOSS Box, with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 SP2 (Danish server), .net 3.5 SP1 on a Server 2008 64 bit (where IIS is running 64 bit too). When I fire up the BizTalk installer and wants to select the SharePoint Web Service, this option is disabled/grayed out. Any ideas as how I can enable the option again? (It states that there are one or more prerequisites missing but I can't figure out which). I found some reference stating that I basically had to "toast" the MOSS box and install WSS 3, but that is NOT an option... Any suggestions? :o)
