• How to structure a bigger/complicated project?

  Hello, I'm creating this (big?) project in high school where I'm programming the game Shithead (card game) (so that two people can play against eachother). I'll use mostly PHP, MySQL, JavaScript and Ajax. But I have never made a project like this before. I have only made like CMS-systems and so on. Do you guys have any tips on how I should structure this project? I'm also not so used to Object-oriented programming, but I guess I should consider this. Should I, for example, make a class for the cards? I'm very thankful for any tips or good links!

• Internet Explorer doesn't update file

  Hi! I'm using AJAX with PHP to read from a file and update the div's innerHTML. It works on Chrome and Firefox, but not in Internet Explorer.   Hello, I found the discussion on Do you test private method informative. I have decided, that in some classes, I want to have protected methods, but test them. Some of these methods are static and short. Because most of the public methods make use of them, I will probably be able to safely remove the tests later. But for starting with a TDD approach and avoid debugging, I really want to test them. I thought of the following: Method Object as adviced in an answer seems to be overkill for this. Start with public methods and when code coverage is given by higher level tests, turn them protected and remove the tests. Inherit a class with a testable interface making protected methods public Which is best practice? Is there anything else? It seems, that JUnit automatically changes protected methods to be public, but I did not have a deeper look at it. PHP does not allow this via reflection.

• Drupal - db_fetch_array returns NULL for every row

  I'm using Drupal's db_fetch_array to fetch rows from my db_query. However, every row returned is equal to NULL. Typing the query into PHP myadmin works, so I have no idea whats going on. db_num_rows returns the number of rows as well. • how to not use relative links in html, but everytime starting from the domain.

  Hi, I'm trying to make a page for use with wordpress and it's almost working, The page I want to use is an HTML page with designated space for it within certain DIVs. I'm encountering the problem of wordpress using the wrong links to kind of everything. I will probably have to change every link to http://www.mydomain.com/sub/folder/image.jpg while there are many links. the page is positioned in a subfolder, there where wordpress is installed on the server. But other pages are positioned in the root, and retrieve all other files directly starting from the domain so writing /sub/folder/image.jpg is enough. Is there a way I could get this to work with html/php files in sub folders as well (so when typing a link like /sub/folder/image.jpg they retrieve http://www.mydomain.com/sub/folder/image.jpg and not http://www.mydomain.com/sub/folder/sub/folder/image.jpg thanks!

  I've got a string that could be in one of two forms: prefix=key=value (which could have any characters, including '=') or key=value So I need to split it either on the first or second equals sign, based on a boolean that gets set elsewhere. I'm doing this: if ($split_on_second) { $parts = explode('=', $str, 3); $key = $parts[0] . '=' . $parts[1]; $val = $parts[2]; } else { $parts = explode('=', $str, 2); $key = $parts[0]; $val = $parts[1]; } Which should work, but feels inelegant. Got any better ideas in php? (I imagine there's a regex-ninja way to do it, but I'm not a regex-ninja.;-)

I need to unset elements of the array with key higher than 5, how could I do that? I might also need to remove elements with value less than 50 or any other condition. Basically I need to be able to get a key of the current array item which is itself an array with a single item.

• One code on dev server, and production server - how to deal with links?

  I have a copy of a code running ont he prod server, and I sue my local machine(s) running xampp as a dev server. I have several websites that I actively develop, so Im forced to use http://localhost/sitename All my URLs are relative to the domain, (/file.php). They work fine on the prod server, but on a local server, they all point to localhost, when I want to make them all work relative to the site folder they are in.   hey guys I'm trying to use ip2country technique to show my users'flags simple thing to do is to write a sql statement and show users from session table and then query to see if their ip is in what range and show their flags it simple but dengerous becuase when showing 300 users online and fetching from session table and then query once again ip2country table to get the flags there will be surelly memory overusage problem now i wrote a query to make it in one query : SELECT s.session_ip,ipc.* FROM session s left join ip2country ipc ON ipc.ip_lo<=s.session_ip AND ipc.ip_hi>=s.session_ip WHERE s.session_time > '".( time() - 60) )."' now its clear above query is wrong cause ips saved in ip2country table is long string 1000013824 and ips saved in session table are real ip e.g. 193.169.0.0 now i know how to convert from ip to long in php ip2long() but is there any command in mysql to do it with out building another query !?

• Can I include a view in Kohana 3 that is not within `application/views`?

  I am building a staff area for a website, which is completely different to the main brochure style site. I have 2 Kohana systems setup. I realise they can both share the same system and modules folder. Now, with the second one, I want to make the main template view a view in a different folder. I tried this in my base controller $this->template = DOCROOT . '../~new2/application/views/template.php'; But Kohana is looking for it in its own views folder as evident by the error I received. I even put a var_dump(file_exists($this->template)); // true to be sure it was finding the correct file. Is there a way to add a template file that is not within the views folder, without hacking the core Kohana code (and if I'm lucky not extending and overloading the view class).

ID 5,6 are only present by product 3. So, the entry's (cat and name) which are present by all products (product_id) have to be selected. The database contains 80.000 entry's with a lot of diffrent cat's, name's and value's. Is this possible with one query or is some php necessary? How do I do this? My apologies for the bad English.

  I have been searching quite a bit for an answer, but maybe I'm just not using the correct terminology. I am creating an app that will access a database to return a list of other users that are within a certain distance of the users location. I've never worked with this type of data, and I don't really know what the values mean. I'd like to do all the calculations on the backend with either MySQL or PHP. Currently, I am storing the latitude and longitude as doubles within the database. I can access them and store them, but I have no idea how I might be able to sort them based on distance. Perhaps I should be using a different type or some technique that is common in this area. TIA.

• How to handle #(hash) character in SEO friendly url?

  How do you bypass the default behaviour if #(hash) which is to go to a specific part of a page? The problem that I have is that the # character is a part of the SEO friendly url which is a title and the #(hash) is part of the content (i.e. like with C#). I can't retrieve the whole string and I only get the characters before the #. Example: www.domain.com/C#-programming-book in this example I only get 'C' and not the '-programming-book' part. I am not using any javascript at the moment and would like to only use a PHP solution for this. Before anyone suggests that I used url encoding, the criteria for the seo friendly url is that it should be human readable and easily remembered. So converting the hash to '%23' does not pass the criteria. Is there no way around it?

  I'm fairly new to PHP - programming in general. So basically what I need to accomplish is, create an array of x amount of numbers (created randomly) who's value add up to n: Lets say, I have to create 4 numbers that add up to 30. I just need the first random dataset. The 4 and 30 here are variables which will be set by the user. Essentially something like x = amount of numbers; n = sum of all x's combined; create x random numbers which all add up to n; $row = array(5, 7, 10, 8) // these add up to 30 Also, no duplicates are allowed. I need the values with an array. I have been messing around with it sometime, however, my knowledge is fairly limited. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers
