• UITableView with Core Data and fetchedResultsController - don't want to call it at start up

  Hi all, I started with the Navigation-based application. I have a UITableView that shows the content fetched from CoreData - using the - (NSFetchedResultsController *)fetchedResultsController from the template. The thing is that I don't want to fill the TableView with the results at the start-up, instead I want to fill the TableView with the results from a search. In my app I have an UITextField, where the user can type a string. And from that string, using predicate, I want to fill the UITableView with the results. In other words, at start-up, the UITableView should be empty and later filled with the search-results. Does anyone have an idea on how to accomplish this? Thanks in advance! EDIT: Solved it by moving out if (![fetchedResultsController_ performFetch:&error]) { and calling it later. I feel a bit stupid ;)

  I am building a framework that will validate forms both client-side (javascript) and server-side based on a form requirements specification written in json. The purpose is to get rid of logically equivalent code on the server and client to make the code more maintainable, faster to write, and less buggy.   I have a Windows Forms app that, unfortunately, must make calls to controls from a second thread. I've been using the thread-safe pattern described on the http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms171728.aspx. Which has worked great in the past. The specific problem I am having now: I have a WebBrowser control and I'm attempting to invoke the WebBrowser.Navigate() method using this Thread-Safe pattern and as a result I am getting StackOverflow exceptions. Here is the Thread-Safe Navigate method I've written. • How to get Firefox to not continue to show "Transferring data from..." in browser status bar after a

  The following silverlight demo loads and displays a text file from a server. However, in Firefox (but not Explorer or Chrome) after you click the button and the text displays, the status bar continues to show "Transferring data from test.development..." which erroneously gives the user the belief that something is still loading. I've noticed that if you click on another Firefox tab and then back on the original one, the message goes away, so it seems to be just a Firefox bug that doesn't clear the status bar automatically. Is there a way to clear the status bar automatically in Firefox? or a way to explicitly tell it that the async loading is finished so it can clear the status bar itself?   How do you modify a propertygrid at runtime in every way? I want to be able to add and remove properties and add "dynamic types", what I mean with that is a type that result in a runtime generated dropdown in the propertygrid using a TypeConverter. I have actually been able to do both those things (add/remove properties and add dynamic type) but only separately not at the same time. • Invalid Token when using XPath

  Hi I am making a modification to a web application using XPath, and when executed I get an error message - Invalid token! This is basic what I am doing public xmlNode GetSelection (SelectParams params, xmldocument docment) { xpathstring = string.format("Name =\'{0}' Displaytag = \'{1}' Manadatory=\'{2}', params.Name, params.Displaytag, params.Manadatory); return document.selectsinglenode(xpathstring); } As you can see, I am making a string and setting values on the nodes I am trying to find against my xml document, and thus returning xml data that matches my parameters. What is happening is that I am getting an xpathexeception error in Visual Studio and it says invalid token. I do know that in the xml document that the parameters I am looking in the tags have double quotes, for example, Name="ABC". So, I thought the problem could be solved using an "\". Can anyone help? Update from comments In the Xml Document, the tag has attributes where they are set as Name="ABC" Displaytag="ATag" Manadatory="true".

• Why would this line throw exception for type initializer failed?

  I had a class: public class Constant { public static string ConnString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnString"].ConnectionString; } which would throw exception on LIVE: Type initialize failed for Constant ctor If I change the class to: public class Constant { public static string ConnString { get { return ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnString"].ConnectionString; } } } it works. I wasted 2 hours behind this but I still don't know why would this happen. Any ideas? Note: The 1st class used to work on DEV environment but not on LIVE. The 2nd class works on DEV and also on Production. I am using VS2010 on production and Asp.Net 4.0 Website project. I am totally amazed by this inconsistency to say the least! Edit: This class was in App_Code folder.

• Trying to filter a ListView with runQueryOnBackgroundThread but nothing happens - what am I missing?

  I have a list of countries in a database. I have created a select country activity that consists of a edit box for filtering and a list which displays the flag and country name. When the activity starts the list shows the entire list of countries sorted alphabetically - works fine. When the customer starts typing into the search box I want the list to be filtered based on their typing. My database query was previously working in an AutoCompleteView (I just want to switch to a separate text box and list) so I know my full query and my constraint query are working. What I did was add a TextWatcher to the EditText view and every time the text is changed I invoke the list's SimpleCursorAdapter runQueryOnBackgroundThread with the edit boxes text as the constraint. The trouble is the list is never updated. I have set breakpoints in the debugger and the TextWatcher does make the call to runQueryOnBackgroundThread and my FilterQueryProvider is called with the expected constraint. The database query goes fine and the cursor is returned.   I would love to thank @Stefan Steinegger and @David helped me out yesterday with many-to-many mapping. I have 3 tables which are "News", "Tags" and "News_Tags" with Many-To-Many relationship and the "News_Tags" is the link table. If I delete one of the news records, the following mappings will delete all my news records which have the same tags. One thing I need to notice, I only allowed unique tag stored in the "Tag" table. This mapping make sense for me, it will delete the tag and related News records, but how can I implement a tagging system with NHibernate? Can anyone give me some suggestion? Many thanks. Daoming.   In JavaScript: encodeURIComponent("©v") == "%C2%A9%E2%88%9A" Is there an equivalent for C# applications? For escaping HTML characters I used: txtOut.Text = Regex.Replace(txtIn.Text, @"[\u0080-\uFFFF]", m => @"&#" + ((int)m.Value[0]).ToString() + ";"); But I'm not sure how to convert the match to the correct hexadecimal format that JS uses. For example this code: txtOut.Text = Regex.Replace(txtIn.Text, @"[\u0080-\uFFFF]", m => @"%" + String.Format("{0:x}", ((int)m.Value[0]))); Returns "%a9%221a" for "©v" instead of "%C2%A9%E2%88%9A". It looks like I need to split the string up into bytes or something. Edit: This is for a windows app, the only items available in System.Web are: AspNetHostingPermission, AspNetHostingPermissionAttribute, and AspNetHostingPermissionLevel.

  How can I intercept submitted form input and modify it before it is bound to my model? For example, if I wanted to trim the whitespace from all text. As I understood when I call this get method to execute it properly I need to mock person.getId() , and I've been sniping around in circles for a while now any help would be appreciated.

  Is there a better way to do this? I tried to loop over the partsToChange collection and build up the where clause, but it ANDs them together instead of ORing them. One of my concerns is if an error occurs when executing the query the cmd.dispose line will never execute. Does that mean it will continue to use up memory that will never be released?

  Hey, My current project requires extensive use of bit fields. I found a simple, functional recipe for bit a field class but it was lacking a few features I needed, so I decided to extend it. I've just got to implementing __str__ and __repr__ and I want to make sure I'm following convention. __str__ is supposed to be informal and concice, so I've made it return the bit field's decimal value (i.e. str(bit field 11) would be "3". __repr__ is supposed to be a official representation of the object, so I've made it return the actual bit string (i.e. repr(bit field 11) would be "11"). In your opinion would this implementation meet the conventions for str and repr? Additionally, I have used the bin() function to get the bit string of the value stored in the class. • Gotchas INSERTing into SQLite on Android?

  Hi friends, I'm trying to set up a simple SQLite database in Android, handling the schema via a subclass of SQLiteOpenHelper. However, when I query my tables, the columns I think I've inserted are never present. Namely, in SQLiteOpenHelper's onCreate(SQLiteDatabase db) method, I use db.execSQL() to run CREATE TABLE commands, then have tried both db.execSQL and db.insert() to run INSERT commands on the tables I've just created. This appears to run fine, but when I try to query them I always get 0 rows returned (for debugging, the queries I'm running are simple SELECT * FROM table and checking the Cursor's getCount()). Anybody run into anything like this before? These commands seem to run on command-line sqlite3. Are they're gotchas that I'm missing (e.g. INSERTS must/must not be semicolon terminated, or some issue involving multiple tables)? I've attached some of the code below. • Resuming execution of code after exception is thrown and caught

  Hi, How is it possible to resume code execution after an exception is thrown? For exampel, take the following code: namespace ConsoleApplication1 { class Test { public void s() { throw new NotSupportedException(); string @class = "" ; Console.WriteLine(@class); Console.ReadLine(); } } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { try { new Test().s(); } catch (ArgumentException x) { } catch (Exception ex) { } } } } After catching the exception when stepping through, the program will stop running. How can I still carry on execution? Thanks
