• Do you take the pain of learning it or use an out of the box solution?

  Hi all What I'm getting at here is being presented with a control or framework that does 95% of what you want but has its shortcomings when opposed to learning how to do it yourself. To give a good example (ASP.Net) UpdatePanel vs DIY JS/JSON. The UpdatePanel gives you AJAX instantly without doing anything additional, however I've come to learn that its shortcomings are mainly that it's a bit of a hack and performs badly on busy pages and I've found myself having to scrap UpdatePanels in favour of rolling my own JS, and I've now made it a habit to fully investigate any shortcomings in out-of-the-box solutions, as I've been stung by this experience. So I guess what I'm asking is: Is it better to find out how to DIY or is it considered a better approach to try the available solution and risk going a full circle? Obviously I've only targetted a single control, but it is a very attractive control to people learning AJAX - I'm sure there are others out there. Sorry if dupliate. Thanks

  One of the areas where we fixed many bugs for Beta2 in our parallel debugging windows is with regards to managed dump debugging. So it was really cool to see Tess use the Parallel Stacks window in that scenario in her video demo with Scott.Other than the neat ability to open managed dumps in VS2010, Parallel Stacks was the only debugging feature she needed for diagnosing the issue!   Following upgrade to 12.10, my usb drives - both pen drives and a usb hard drive - fail to mount with the error message: Unable to mount *name of drive* volume Adding read ACL for uid 1000 to '/media/*my home file name*' failed: Operation not supported This is on a desktop Dell Inspiron 530. I also have a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook which I also upgraded to 12.10 (slightly smaller installation on a flash hard drive). all devices mount automatically without problems on this computer.

• How can I convert arbitrary strings to CLS-Compliant names?

  Does anyone know of an algorithm (or external library) that I could call to convert an arbitrary string (i.e. outside my control) to be CLS compliant? I am generating a dynamic RDLC (Client Report Definition) for an ASP.Net Report Viewer control and some of the field names need to be based on strings entered by the user. Unfortunately I have little control over the entry of the field names by the client (through a 3rd party CMS). But I am quite flexible around substitutions required to create the compliant string. I have a reactive hack algorithm for now along the lines of: public static string FormatForDynamicRdlc(this string s) { //We need to change this string to be CLS compliant. return s.Replace(Environment.NewLine, string.Empty) .Replace("\t", string.Empty) .Replace(",", string.Empty) .Replace("-", "_") .Replace(" ", "_"); } But I would love something more comprehensive. Any ideas? • Why does ASP.Net rewrite relative paths for runat=server anchor controls?

  I have my UserControls in a ~/Controls folder in my solution: /Controls/TheControl.ascx If specify the following: <a runat="server" href="./?pg=1">link text</a> ASP.Net seems to want to rewrite the path to point to the absolute location. For example, If the control is on site.com/products/fish/cans.aspx the link href will be rewritten to read <a href="../../Controls/?pg=1>link text</a> Why does Asp.Net rewrite these control paths, and is there an elegant way to fix it? I just want the anchor control to spit out exactly what I tell it to!!! Is that so hard?

I'm currently using Direct3D 11 and not 10, and the signature for this function is: D3DXVECTOR3 *pOut, CONST D3DXVECTOR3 *pV, CONST D3D10_VIEWPORT *pViewport, CONST D3DXMATRIX *pProjection, CONST D3DXMATRIX *pView, CONST D3DXMATRIX *pWorld As you may have noticed, it requires a D3D10_VIEWPORT, and I'm using a Direct3D 11 viewport, D3D11_VIEWPORT. Do you have any ideas how I can use D3DXVec3Unproject with Direct3D 11?

  I have a control, that moves around alot of different controls inside of it in the form of a grid. So basically, none of the container control is shown at any point. But i do have capture of all the mousedown and mousemove events of the controls inside. What id like to do, is create an effect alot like the desktop of a windows computer, where you can drag, and every control that is inside of the mouse's drag will be thrown in a list, and when the mouse is released i can perform an action on all the selected items. • problem in interceptor executing before action in struts2

  Hi All, I am working on struts2. I have an interceptor that executes before my action claas. Now when I submit on a jsp page control goes to interceptor and after some processing there the control goes to action class. This complete flow is running well. But I found two things – 1) Control does not go to action-validation.xml before going to action class. 2) Its not getting the values of textfield or etc that uses has entered into jsp page before submitting. • How do you pack resources in a game when you have too many of them?

  I've recently made a basic space invaders clone in C++ using the Allegro 5 framework. It took me a long time, but after I finished, I realized I had about 10 sprites, and 13MB worth of DLLs (Some of the people didn't even have the mingW dlls) which were making people who played the game very confused. How can I "pack" all my resources in a way that I can easily add-remove data to my game, and to reduce the size taken by the resource, basically placing them in 1 spot? I'm using codeblocks.
