  • Using a large list of terms, search through page text and replace words with links

    - by dunc
A while ago I posted this question asking if it's possible to convert text to HTML links if they match a list of terms from my database. I have a fairly huge list of terms - around 6000. The accepted answer on that question was superb, but having never used XPath, I was at a loss when problems started occurring. At one point, after fiddling with code, I somehow managed to add over 40,000 random characters to our database - the majority of which required manual removal. Since then I've lost faith in that idea and the more simple PHP solutions simply weren't efficient enough to deal with the amount of data and the quantity of terms. My next attempt at a solution is to write a JS script which, once the page has loaded, retrieves the terms and matches them against the text on a page. This answer has an idea which I'd like to attempt. I would use AJAX to retrieve the terms from the database, to build an object such as this: var words = [ { word: 'Something', link: 'http://www.something.com' }, { word: 'Something Else', link: 'http://www.something.com/else' } ]; When the object has been built, I'd use this kind of code: //for each array element $.each(words, function() { //store it ("this" is gonna become the dom element in the next function) var search = this; $('.message').each( function() { //if it's exactly the same if ($(this).text() === search.word) { //do your magic tricks $(this).html('<a href="' + search.link + '">' + search.link + '</a>'); } } ); } ); Now, at first sight, there is a major issue here: with 6,000 terms, will this code be in any way efficient enough to do what I'm trying to do?. One option would possibly be to perform some of the overhead within the PHP script that the AJAX communicates with. For instance, I could send the ID of the post and then the PHP script could use SQL statements to retrieve all of the information from the post and match it against all 6,000 terms.. then the return call to the JavaScript could simply be the matching terms, which would significantly reduce the number of matches the above jQuery would make (around 50 at most). I have no problem with the script taking a few seconds to "load" on the user's browser, as long as it isn't impacting their CPU usage or anything like that. So, two questions in one: Can I make this work? What steps can I take to make it as efficient as possible? Thanks in advance,

  • New records added to DataGridView aren't displayed

    - by Ross
I have a custom Order class, groups of which are stored in List<Order> and a DataGridView. I think the problem is in my implementation so here's how I'm using it: In the form enclosing DataGridView (as OrdersDataGrid): public partial class MainForm : Form { public static List<Order> Orders; public MainForm() { // code to populate Orders with values, otherwise sets Orders to new List<Order>(); OrdersDataGrid.DataSource = Orders; } Then in another form that adds an Order: // Save event public void Save(object sender, EventArgs e) { Order order = BuildOrder(); // method that constructs an order object from form data MainForm.Orders.Add(order); } From what I can tell from the console this is added successfully. I thought the DataGrid would be updated automatically after this since Orders has changed - is there something I'm missing? The DataGrid accepts the class since it generates columns from the members.

  • Javascript regex: remove space(s) if not surrounded by a letter

    - by user326433
I'm trying to clean some html text with javascript, there are white spaces included before and after some words (text is poorly formatted). Currently I have this regex: $("#" + target + " *").replaceText(/([\S][\u05B0-\u05C4]*)/gi, '<span class="marked">$1<\/span>'); This will capture all the non white-space characters and wrap them in a span element, but will not capture spaces between words (I need the span). How would you solve this?

  • Returning objects with dynamic memory

    - by Caulibrot
I'm having trouble figuring out a way to return an object (declared locally within the function) which has dynamic memory attached to it. The problem is the destructor, which runs and deletes the dynamic memory when the object goes out of scope, i.e. when I return it and want to use the data in the memory that has been deleted! I'm doing this for an overloaded addition operator. I'm trying to do something like: MyObj operator+( const MyObj& x, const MyObj& y ) { MyObj z; // code to add x and y and store in dynamic memory of z return z; } My destructor is simply: MyObj::~MyObj() { delete [] ptr; } Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

  • Class properties vs NSArray / NSDictionary

    - by Frank Martin
I want a custom class object to hold data and have somehow the feeling that creating about 80 properties is not the best way of doing it. Most of the properties would be bool values, so i'm thinking about creating Arrays (keys / values) or (probably better) a NSDictionary attached to the object for holding the data. Does that make sense or should i stay with the properties? Extra: Are there general pros and cons for the different approaches? And what keywords / concepts do i have to search for to find discussions about that somehow general question? Thanks in advance

  • Loop through collections

    - by ScG
    I have two classes class A { public string something { get; set; } public IList<B> b= new List<B>(); } class B { public string else { get; set; } public string elseelse { get; set; } } I have populated an object of class A called obj. How can I loop through this object and print values. Do I have to use two foreach's like the one show here or is there a better way? foreach (var z in obj) { // print z.something; foreach (var x in z.b) { // print x.elseelse; } }

  • grailsApplication not getting injected in a service , Grails 2.1.0

    - by vijay tyagi
I have service in which i am accessing few configuration properties from grailsApplication I am injecting it like this class MyWebService{ def grailsApplication WebService webService = new WebService() def getProxy(url, flag){ return webService.getClient(url) } def getResponse(){ def proxy = getProxy(grailsApplication.config.grails.wsdlURL, true) def response = proxy.getItem(ItemType) return response } } When i call getProxy() method, i see this in tomcat logs No signature of method: org.example.MyWebService.getProxy() is applicable for argument types: (groovy.util.ConfigObject, java.lang.Boolean) values: [[:], true] Possible solutions: getProxy(), getProxy(java.lang.String, boolean), setProxy(java.lang.Object) which means grailsApplication is not getting injected into the service, is there any alternate way to access configuration object ? according to burtbeckwith's post configurationholder has been deprecated, can't think of anything else. Interestingly the very same service works fine in my local IDE(GGTS 3.1.0), that means locally grailsApplication is getting injected, but when i create a war to deploy to a standalone tomcat, it stops getting injected.

  • How is Core Data detecting the conflicts, actually?

    - by brainfrog
Apple says about -detectConflictsForObject: If on the next invocation of save: object has been modified in its persistent store, the save fails. This allows optimistic locking for unchanged objects. Conflict detection is always performed on changed or deleted objects. So what does this mean? If I simply modify an managed object and then save the context, there is always a conflict detection happening? Does this conflict detection simply compare the timestamps of the "records" to see if the "new" data is actually "old"? Is that a conflict?

  • HTML Special Entity Codes in Actionscript3/Flex

    - by BlairHippo
I have a Flex/Actionscript 3 application that displays RSS feeds in a Text element. It strips out any HTML formatting present, but it's not handling HTML special entity codes properly -- it's rendering &mdash as the literal string instead of replacing it with an em-dash, etc. Is there any systematic way I can make it handle those codes properly, or am I going to need to manually replace those strings regex style?

  • JSP::Confused with the session objects

    - by Legend
I just started exploring Java Servlets and JSP and am a little confused about the sessions object. Inside a servlet I have this: public class SampleServlet extends HttpServlet { public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException { HttpSession session = request.getSession(true); session.setAttribute("_session", "_value"); response.sendRedirect("page2.jsp"); } } Now, inside page2.jsp, there is a session object as well, but when I do this <% out.print(session.getAttribute("_session")) %> it gives me an error. Can someone tell me the right way of doing this? As to what I am trying to do, I want to share some session variables.

  • Retrieving a single Guid in CRM 4.0

    - by user1746560
I'm new to CRM (version 4.0) and i'm trying to return a 'yearid' guide based on a given year (which is also stored in the entity). So far i've got: public static Guid GetYearID(string yearName) { ICrmService service = CrmServiceFactory.GetCrmService(); // Create the query object. QueryExpression query = new QueryExpression("year"); ColumnSet columns = new ColumnSet(); columns.AddColumn("yearid"); query.ColumnSet = columns; FilterExpression filter = new FilterExpression(); filter.FilterOperator = LogicalOperator. And; filter.AddCondition(new ConditionExpression { AttributeName = "yearName", Operator = ConditionOperator.Equal, Values = new object[] { yearName} }); query.Criteria = filter; } But my questions are: A) What code do in addition to this to actually store the Guid? B) Is using a QueryExpression the most efficient way to do this?

  • System.NullReferenceException with WhoCanHelpMe Unit Test

    - by tlum
I'm working with a test project based on WhoCanHelpMe, which is based on Sharp Architecture, NHibernateValidator, etc. As its written the when_the_profile_tasks_is_asked_to_create_a_profile unit test creates the profile object and saves it without issue. Now the profile object is a CreateProfileDetails type that derives from their own ValidatableValueObject which inherits the IValidatable interface. The problem surfaces when my class is based on an Entity rather than their ValidatableValueObject. When the test is run a System.NullReferenceException because Validate() is null. I'm afraid that I'm at a loss to resolve this bad behavior. Does anyone have some suggestions to get to the bottom of this? Thanks, -Ted-

  • h:selectOneMenu not populating a 'selected' item

    - by dann.dev
I'm having trouble with an h:selectOneMenu not having a selected item when there is already something set on the backing bean. I am using seam and have specified a customer converter. When working on my 'creation' page, everything works fine, something from the menu can be selected, and when the page is submitted, the correct value is assigned and persisted to the database as well. However when I work on my 'edit' page the menu's default selection is not the current selection. i have gone through and confirmed that something is definitely set etc. My selectOneMenu looks like this: <h:selectOneMenu id="selVariable" value="#{customer.variableLookup}" converter="#{variableLookupConverter}"> <s:selectItems var="source" value="#{customerReferenceHelper.variableLookups()}" label="#{source.name}" /> </h:selectOneMenu> And the converter is below. It very simple and just turns the id from string to int and back etc: @Name( "sourceOfWealthLookupConverter" ) public class SourceOfWealthLookupConverter implements Serializable, Converter { @In private CustomerReferenceHelper customerReferenceHelper; @Override public Object getAsObject( FacesContext arg0, UIComponent arg1, String arg2 ) { VariableLookup variable= null; try { if ( "org.jboss.seam.ui.NoSelectionConverter.noSelectionValue".equals( arg2 ) ) { return null; } CustomerReferenceHelper customerReferenceHelper = ( CustomerReferenceHelper ) Contexts.getApplicationContext().get( "customerReferenceHelper" ); Integer id = Integer.parseInt( arg2 ); source = customerReferenceHelper.getVariable( id ); } catch ( NumberFormatException e ) { log.error( e, e ); } return variable; } @Override public String getAsString( FacesContext arg0, UIComponent arg1, Object arg2 ) { String result = null; VariableLookup variable= ( VariableLookup ) arg2; Integer id = variable.getId(); result = String.valueOf( id ); return result; } } I've seen a few things about it possibly being the equals() method on the class, (that doesn't add up with everything else working, but I overrode it anyway as below, where the hashcode is just the id (id is a unique identifier for each item). Equals method: @Override public boolean equals( Object other ) { if ( other == null ) { return false; } if ( this == other ) { return true; } if ( !( other instanceof VariableLookup ) ) { return false; } VariableLookup otherVariable = ( VariableLookup ) other; if ( this.hashCode() == otherVariable.hashCode() ) { return true; } return false; } I'm at my wits end with this, I can't find what I could have missed?! Any help would be much appreciated

  • C#, working with files, "Unauthorized Access"?

    - by Rob
    Hi, I'm learning about opening and saving files with C# and it seems that vista won't let my program save to a file on the root of C:\ , unless I run it in administrator mode. Any ideas how to allow my program to play around with whatever files it wants? Thanks! string name; private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) ///// OPEN ///// { if (openFileDialog1.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { name = openFileDialog1.FileName; textBox1.Clear(); textBox1.Text = File.ReadAllText(name); textBox2.Text = name; } } private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) ///// SAVE ///// { File.WriteAllText(name, textBox1.Text); }

    - by kimka
I've noticed that Firefox throws me a warning on the following jQuery code: $("li.example div.code:gt(4)").hide(); CSS Error: Unknown pseudo-class or pseudo-element 'gt'. According to jQuery, it all should be correct. And it works, but I wonder how to fix this error for cleanness sake.

  • What are the default style property values in HTML?

    - by Emanuil
Most HTML elements have style properties associated with them - such a "color", "font-size" and "padding". These style properties have default values. For example the "color" style property associated with the "a" (anchor) element seems to have a default value of "#000066". What are the default style properties values fo in HTML?

  • Add effects to datagrid invalidate

    - by MooCow
Is it possible to add an effect to a datagrid when I call invalidatelist to update the data? If it can be done, can the effects be selectively applied to only certain cells in the grid? The grid is showing an array with some nested array in it. I'm using an int counter to keep track of the nested array element position. When the counter is advanced, I tell the grid to update using invalidatelist.

  • Correct approach to validate attributes of an instance of class

    - by systempuntoout
Having a simple Python class like this: class Spam(object): __init__(self, description, value): self.description = description self.value = value Which is the correct approach to check these constraints: "description cannot be empty" "value must be greater than zero" Should i: 1.validate data before creating spam object ? 2.check data on __init__ method ? 3.create an is_valid method on Spam class and call it with spam.isValid() ? 4.create an is_valid static method on Spam class and call it with Spam.isValid(description, value) ? 5.check data on setters declaration ? 6.... Could you recommend a well designed\Pythonic\not verbose (on class with many attributes)\elegant approach?
