• How do you extend a Ruby module with macro-like metaprogramming methods?

    - by Ian Terrell
Consider the following extension (the pattern popularized by several Rails plugins over the years): module Extension def self.included(recipient) recipient.extend ClassMethods recipient.class_eval { include InstanceMethods } end module ClassMethods def macro_method puts "Called macro_method within #{self.name}" end end module InstanceMethods def instance_method puts "Called instance_method within #{self.object_id}" end end end If you wished to expose this to every class, you can do the following: Object.send :include, Extension Now you can define any class and use the macro method: class FooClass macro_method end #=> Called macro_method within FooClass And instances can use the instance methods: FooClass.new.instance_method #=> Called instance_method within 2148182320 But even though Module.is_a?(Object), you cannot use the macro method in a module: module FooModule macro_method end #=> undefined local variable or method `macro_method' for FooModule:Module (NameError) This is true even if you explicitly include the original Extension into Module with Module.send(:include, Extension). How do you add macro like methods to Ruby modules?

  • How to measure how long is a function running?

    - by rhose87
I want to see how long a function is running. So I added a timer object on my form and I came out with this code: private int counter = 0; //inside button click I have: timer = new Timer(); timer.Tick += new EventHandler(timer_Tick); timer.Start(); Result result = new Result(); result = new GeneticAlgorithms().TabuSearch(parametersTabu, functia); timer.Stop(); and: private void timer_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { counter++; btnTabuSearch.Text = counter.ToString(); } But this is not counting anything. Any ideas?

  • How is Core Data detecting the conflicts, actually?

    - by brainfrog
Apple says about -detectConflictsForObject: If on the next invocation of save: object has been modified in its persistent store, the save fails. This allows optimistic locking for unchanged objects. Conflict detection is always performed on changed or deleted objects. So what does this mean? If I simply modify an managed object and then save the context, there is always a conflict detection happening? Does this conflict detection simply compare the timestamps of the "records" to see if the "new" data is actually "old"? Is that a conflict?

  • JSP::Confused with the session objects

    - by Legend
I just started exploring Java Servlets and JSP and am a little confused about the sessions object. Inside a servlet I have this: public class SampleServlet extends HttpServlet { public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException { HttpSession session = request.getSession(true); session.setAttribute("_session", "_value"); response.sendRedirect("page2.jsp"); } } Now, inside page2.jsp, there is a session object as well, but when I do this <% out.print(session.getAttribute("_session")) %> it gives me an error. Can someone tell me the right way of doing this? As to what I am trying to do, I want to share some session variables.

  • relaxng schema - use attributes for members and elements for structures?

    - by rpkrpk
For a data-binding application, I am trying to draw parallels among RelaxNG, C++ and C. RelaxNG.Elements === C++.Class === C.Struct RelaxNG.Attributes === C++.class-members === C.structure-members Only that the Elements in RelaxNG can also have a data-type (i.e. it seems Attribute is a special case of the Element). Do I have the above equivalence correct? If I use the above convention in my implementation, will I be breaking some data-binding libraries?

  • When iterating over values, why does typeof(value) return "string" when value is a number? Javascrip

    - by Mark
I'm using Google Chrome for this test: Contrary to intuition, the first loop alerts "string" 3 times, while the second loop alerts "number" 3 times. numarray = [1, 2, 3]; //for-each loop for(num in numarray) alert(typeof(num)); //standard loop for(i=0; i<numarray.length; i++) alert(typeof(numarray[i])); I was expecting both loops to alert "number" 3 times. How is the first loop implemented in Javascript? In other words, if the for-each is syntactic sugar, what is its equivalent using a standard loop? Also, is there some way to iterate over an object's namespace using a standard loop? I'm looking to touch every one of some object's methods and attributes using a loop of the second kind. I'm new to Javascript and any help is highly appreciated, thanks.

  • When to update audit fields? DDD

    - by user676767
I have a Meeting Object: Meeting{id, name, time, CreatedBy, UpdatedBy} and a MeetingAssignee{id, MeetingID, EmployeeId, CreatedBy, UpdatedBy) Meeting, as Aggregate root, has a method AssignEmployee. I was about to pass in the current user to the Meeting object as I call AssignEmployee, so that it can update its audit fields accordingly. But this doesn't seem right - is it? Obviously I can keep the audit fields public and change them later - perhaps at service level? What is everyone's else preferred method for updating these fields? Please note: We are not using Nhibernate, but a custom ORM which does not have anything automatic in place. Thanks.

  • Initializing a value through a Session variable

    - by William Calleja
I need to Initialize a value in a Javascript by using a c# literal that makes reference to a Session Variable. I am using the following code var myIndex = <%= !((Session["myIndex"]).Equals(null)||(Session["myIndex"]).Equals("")) ? Session["backgroundIndex"] : "1" %>; However the code above is giving me a classic Object reference not set to an instance of an object. error. Why? Shouldn't (Session["myIndex"]).Equals(null) capture this particular error?

  • fieldWithErrors not wrapping every error field

    - by Teef L
Notice the following result when I submit blank :title and :description fields The validations are in the controller: class Question < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :title validates_presence_of :description And, the form is generated with those names: -form_for(@question) do |f| = f.error_messages = f.label :title = f.text_field :title, :size => 50, :onchange => remote_function(:url => {:action => :display_tag_suggestions}, :with => 'Form.Element.serialize(this)') #suggestions = f.label :description = f.text_area :description ... But, for some reason, only :title gets wrapped in the error div tags:

2 errors prohibited this question from being saved

There were problems with the following fields:

Title can't be blank

Description can't be blank

Title

Description ... I don't think that behavior is expected. The problem most people have is that it's wrapping things with divs, which won't display properly. My problem is that fields aren't being wrapped with divs to begin with! I haven't made any (conscious) changes to how errors are handled, so I'm not sure why it's not working properly.

  • Best way to get photoshop to optimise 35 related pictures for fast transmission

    - by thenerd
I have 35 pictures taken from a stationary camera aimed at a lightbox in which an object is placed, rotated at 10 degrees in each picture. If I cycle through the pictures quickly, the image looks like it is rotating. If I wished to 'rotate' the object in a browser but wanted to transmit as little data as possible for this, I thought it might be a good idea to split the picture into 36 pictures, where 1 picture is any background the images have in common, and 35 pictures minus the background, just showing the things that have changed. Do you think this approach will work? Is there a better route? How would I achieve this in photoshop?

  • Why are Objective-C instance variables declared in an interface?

    - by Chase
I'm just getting into Objective-C (Java is my primary OO language). Defining an object's instance variables in the interface instead of the class seems strange. I'm used to an interface being a public API definition with nothing besides method signatures (not counting constants here). Is there some reason that state is defined in an interface (even if it is private) and behaviour is defined in a class. It just seems odd that since objects are state+behavior that the definition would be split into two separate places. Is it a design benefit is some way? A pain in the rear issue that you are just forced to deal with in Objective-C? A non-issue, just different? Any background on why it's done this way? Or can you put object state in a class and I just haven't hit that part in my book yet?

  • Dynamic proxies to auto-save models

    - by atomman
I'm trying to make some auto-magic happen in java using proxies to track objects and saving them when a set* method is called. I started of using java's built in Proxy, and everything works just fine, but from what I can understand I need a interface for every model, which is something that I'm trying to avoid. This is where CGLIB comes in, it allows me to create proxies of my models without the use of interfaces. BUT, how can I now retrieve the original object, the one I am trying to save? The optimal solution to be would be something like the EntityManager interface used by hibernate, where you keep your original object, but it is still tracked.

  • how to access a different movieclip within the flash in AS3

    - by Pieter888
I've been trying to learn Action Script 3 the past few weeks, making tiny interactive games to learn the basics. I stumble upon a problem every now and then but most of the times google helps me out. But this problem has got me stuck so please help: The main stage contains two objects(movieclips), the player and a wall. The player has got his own code so when I drag in the player object I don't have to write any code into the main stage to be able to move the player. This all worked pretty well and I now wanted to add the wall so the player actually has something to bounce into. Now here is the problem, I want to check if the player touches the wall, I've done this before but that was when I used the main stage as my coding playground instead of putting the code in movieclips. How can I check if the player hits the wall within the movement code of the player object?

  • Javascript regex: remove space(s) if not surrounded by a letter

    - by user326433
I'm trying to clean some html text with javascript, there are white spaces included before and after some words (text is poorly formatted). Currently I have this regex: $("#" + target + " *").replaceText(/([\S][ְ-ׄ]*)/gi, '$1'); This will capture all the non white-space characters and wrap them in a span element, but will not capture spaces between words (I need the span). How would you solve this?

  • C#, Using Custom Generic Collection faster with objects than List

    - by Kaminari
Hello, I'm using for now List< to iterate through some object collection and find matching element, The problem is that object has only 2 significant values Name and Link (strings) but has some other values wich I dont want to compare. I'm thinkig about using something like HashSet (wich is exactly what I'm searching for - fast) from .NET 3.5 but target framework has to be 2.0. There is something called Power Collections here: http://powercollections.codeplex.com/ But maybe there is other way? If not, can you suggest me a suitable custom collection?

  • mvc partial views loses track of the images folder when using jquery

NOTICE THE IMAGE PATH IS NOT ABSOLUTE $(function(){ $('.slide-out-div').tabSlideOut({ tabHandle: '.handle', //class of the element that will become your tab pathToTabImage: '/images/contact_tab.gif', //path to the image for the tab //Optionally can be set using css imageHeight: '122px', //height of tab image //Optionally can be set using css imageWidth: '40px', //width of tab image //Optionally can be set using css tabLocation: 'right', //side of screen where tab lives, top, right, bottom, or left speed: 300, //speed of animation action: 'click', //options: 'click' or 'hover', action to trigger animation topPos: '200px', //position from the top/ use if tabLocation is left or right leftPos: '20px', //position from left/ use if tabLocation is bottom or top fixedPosition: true //options: true makes it stick(fixed position) on scroll }); }); the html for completeness....
Content
Medical Variance Reports

Individual Medicines

I suspect somehow pathToTabImage: /images/contact_tab.gif' loses its context when browsing throught controllers.
