• Drupal 6 vs Drupal 7 performance

  Hi all. I want to start new project and stuck without idea what version to use. I have huge expirience with D6, and also one project (module developement) for D7. It looks like D7 slower, have bigger memory consumption and also have a lack of documentation by the moment. I don't need new CCK, Views and other - looks like I'll coding all features needed as modules. Is D7 have sweet parts now, or better way is develop project under D6? What way you choose for yourself, and why?

• IE8 + Jquery ajax call giving parsererror : for json data which seems valid in Firefox

  The ajax call works fine in FF. the data returned is in JSON here is an example from FF firebug - {"noProfiles": "No profiles have been created, lets start now !"} When I try to print the error in IE8 (& in compatibility modes as well), it says "parsererror". But the output seems to be valid JSON. Here is the ajax function call I'm making. • Building Eclipse RCP application, running fails

  Hi, after successfully building my application the start fails because it relies on config files which are located in the META-INF directory and after the build this directory is zipped into a jar file, hence making it unable to access the config files. After manually unzipping the jar, deleting the jar and renaming the directory with xxx.jar the program runs without a problem. The config files are needed for SSO login (Kerberos). Here is the code: Bundle bundle = Platform.getBundle(Application.PLUGIN_ID); String path; try { path = new URL(bundle.getLocation().substring(18)).getPath(); } catch (MalformedURLException e1) { System.out.println(e1); path=""; } System.setProperty("java.security.auth.login.config",path+"META-INF/jaas-win.config"); Path variable contains something like "plugin/mydomain.pluginame-xxxx.jar/" But it seems that the System needs the jar unzipped. • Stop Duplicate Ajax Submisions?

  Hi I am wondering what is the best way to stop duplciate submissions when using jquery and ajax? I come up with 2 possible ways but not sure if these are the only 2. On Ajax start disable all buttons till request is done. 2 problems I see with this though is I use jquery model dialog so I don't know how easy it would be to disable those button as I not sure if they have id's. Second I if the the request hangs the user has really no way to try again since all the buttons are disabled. I am looking into something called AjaxQueue at this time I have no clue if it is what I need or how it works since the site where the plugin is apparently down for maintenance. http://docs.jquery.com/AjaxQueue

• AJAX get data from large HTML page as the large HTML page loads

  Not entirely sure whether this has a name but basically I have a large HTML page that is generated from results in a db. So viewing the HTML page (which is a report) in a browser directly does not display all contents immediately but displays what it has and additional HTML is added as the results from the DB are retrieved... Is there a way I can make an AJAX request to this HTML page and as opposed to waiting until the whole page (report) is ready, I can start processing the response as the HTML report is loaded? Or is there another way of doing it? Atm I make my AJAX response it just sits there for a minute or two until the HTML page is complete... If context is of any use: The HTML report is generated by a Java servlet and the page making the AJAX call is a JSP page. Unfortunately I can't very easily break the report up because it is generated by BIRT (Eclipse reporting extension). Thanks in advance.

• App Engine Authentication Error

  I have an app hosted by google app engine, and I am having trouble with authentication. When I login using my admin account and try to access the admin page or members pages, I just get a blank screen. I can login, and the members only menu shows when I login, but I just can't see any data from the members pages. I'm not really sure where I should start checking? My app is registered with my google apps account and I am using the only admin login that is there. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Brainstorming - MIDI over LAN

  I'm planning out a summer coding project for myself. I work with a lot of MIDI and have been researching it a lot. I know it's an old technology, but it works with a lot of music hardware/software so in my eyes, it's still viable. Anyway, I haven't ever worked with writing drivers or anything, so I don't know where I would start with this. So, provided I have MIDI data already being sent over LAN to a server (I know how to do that part), what steps would it take for the server to channel those received messages to an emulated MIDI device, that could then be accessed in music software and so on? Also, what would it take to also send MIDI data back through the LAN to be received by the device that originally received the message? I'm not really looking for too specific a solution. Really I am just trying to come up with a game plan right now and I need to figure out where/what to research.

  Hi All, This is probably something really simple, however I am quite new to PHP, and havent done any HTML in years. I need to get a PHP variable filled with an array of figures into Google Charts. My code for this so far is: <img src="http://chart.apis.google.com/chart? &chs=340x175 &chd=t:<?=$filedetail[1]?> &cht=lc &chtt=Test "> However, Google reports an error, as it stops at the ?=$filedetail[1] for some reason.   Hi all, Let's say I have a situation in Silverlight where there is a background thread (guaranteed to NOT be the UI thread) doing some work and it needs to create a new thread. Something like this: //running in a background thread Thread t = new Thread(new ThreadStart(delegate{}); t.Start(); Lets also say that the UI thread at this particular time is just hanging around doing nothing. Keeping in mind that I am not that knowledgeable about the Silverlight threading model, is there any danger of the new Thread() call giving me the UI thread? The motivation or what I am trying to achieve is not important - I do not want modification to the existing code. I just want to know if there is a possibility of getting the UI thread back unexpectedly. Cheers

  IBM has (had) a free learn-Java program called RoboCode, in which custom robots could be written that would then do battle in a 2D space. I would like to write the environment that supports such robots, but don't know what pattern or design to use. Each robot is a thread. Each thread is given a certain (indeterminate) amount of run-time by the JRE. A robot world engine would start by building a list of the players/robots, then enter a loop that allows each player in turn to do whatever it likes: move forward, turn left, fire toward the northwest corner, whatever. Each robot is also informed of events of interest: an enemy or several enemies are within range, it has been hit by a bullet, etc. The combination of handling threads that are also event listeners (are they also producers?) confuses me; it seems that there's more to the game engine. Even some general ideas would help. TIA.

• Why do I get this error when I try to push my SQLite3 to Postgresql (via Taps) on Cedar Stack?

  I've done quite a bit of research on Heroku Dev Center and I am now looking to the community for help. Here is my problem. I can not push my db to Heroku Cedar Stack. I am trying to migrate a sqlite database to postgresql via Taps gem. • Error while creating in app purchase in itunes connect

  I'm having trouble while creating an In App Purchase in iTunes Connect. I have created a test user and am able to see the form for creating the in app purchase. However, when pressing 'Save' I get the following error message: "There was an error saving changes. Please try again later. If the problem persists, please contact us." This error has persisted for about 24 hours now. Have you encountered this problem, and do you know any way to get around it? Edit 2009-11-10: I just received a response from my email to Apple. It stated that they will start looking into it, and expect to have a solution within three business days. As soon as I hear something new, I'll post it here.

  I have a batch file that executes a java application. I'm trying to modify it so that whenever an exception occurs, it'll write the STDERR out to a file. It looks something like this: start java something.jar method %1 %2 2>> log.txt Is there a way I can write the arguments %1 and %2 to the log.txt file as well? I don't want to write it to the log file everytime this batch file gets called, only when an exception occurs. I tried searching for a way to redirect STDERR into a variable, but I couldn't figure it out. Ideally I'd like the log file to look something like: Batch file called with parameters: - "first arg" - "second arg" Exception: java.io.exception etc... ------------------------------------ Batch file called with parameters: - "first arg" - "second arg" Exception: java.io.exception etc...

• How to mask tilde (~) character in C# MVC routing table?

  I'm moving my home-baked web site to MVC and got the trouble with url routing. The site already serves several links that contain tilde (~) character in the path; something like http://.../~files/... http://.../~ws/... and I want each of them are handled by separate controller, like filesController, wsController, so my route table looks like routes.MapRoute( "files", "~files/{*prms}", new { controller = "files", action = "index", prms = "" } ); routes.MapRoute( "ws", "~ws/{*prms}", new { controller = "ws", action = "index", prms = "" } ); ... but when I try to get the result I got the error saying "The route URL cannot start with a '/' or '~' character and it cannot contain a '?' character." As I understand those characters have the special meaning in ASP.net but is it possible to mask them somehow, at least tilde? Should I parse and route requests like this myself? What the best practice to handle urls like this? Thanks!

• How to launch activity from android home screen widget

  Hi all, I am desperately trying to get my head wrapped around how to implement home screen widgets. Right now, I (finally) was able to get a button on my widget respond to a button press setting up an intent filter in the manifest. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to launch an activity when the button is pressed. Basically, here's the code i have: @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { super.onReceive(context, intent); if(intent.getAction().equals("com.bic.search.searchWidget.CLICK")) { Toast.makeText(context, "It works!!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } } What I really want to do, though, is start a new activity, not display a toast message. • Outlook 2003 add-in - Getting COM exception on application shutdown after creating WPF window

  Hi! I'm developing an outlook 2003 add-in. Until now I used only winforms to display one form, but today I've added a WPF window for more complex stuff. DUe to the WPF window, a COM exception is being thrown when outlook shuts down. Does anybody know why? I need to start a separate thread for the WPF window in single apartment state. • Facebook Canvas iFrame App - Authorizing users with new OAuth protocol

  Hi, I'm developing a new Facebook Canvas application within an iFrame and trying to authorize users. The new OAuth api recommends I do a redirect to the following to authorize a user in my app: https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/authorize? client_id=...& redirect_uri=http://www.example.com/oauth_redirect However this produces a weird problem where a full Facebook page requesting permissions from the user is rendered within the iFrame itself (i.e. facebook within Facebook). Does anyone know how to solve this with the new OAuth API as I don't want to start using old REST API methods. Thanks, Rick

• Getting TypeConverter error that makes no sense

  I have a TypeConverter for a TopMostNode class. It extends ExpandableObjectConverter. The TopMostNode has two properties. Setting those in the property grid results in correctly serialized code to the designer. However, if I type in text for the property, I get a "Property value is not valid" error and the details say: Object of type 'TopMostNode' cannot be converted to type 'TopMostNode'. I'm baffled. When I step through the type converter ConvertFrom code, it runs as expected. I don't even know were to start looking for an issue like this.

• Using git-svn with existing svn project

  I'm currently working on a project that has a svn repository. I'm used to git and love the way it allows me to have a local repository, so I would like to use git-svn with this project. I would like to know how to use git-svn from a svn project already in my computer. Do I really need to make a clone and start from there? Or can I just do something like git svn init in the current project folder and proceed from there? Also I would like to know about any big issues using git-svn, since this is a serious project and I shouldn't mess around with the repo. Thanks in advance.

  My app uses the location service. To test what is happening when the user presses 'Don't allow' when the simulator asks for the permission to access the location service (when the app is started for the first time) I need to reset the simulator. This because the question was answered at the beginning of the development process with allow. So no more questions are asked. Reseting the Simulator with "Reseting Content and Settings.." don't bring back the question at the start. What I am doing wrong? thx in advance

  I'm downloading a vCard to the browser using Response.Write to output .NET strings with special accented characters. Mime type is text/x-vcard and French characters are appearing wrong in Outlook, for example Montréal;Québec .NET string shows as Montréal Québec in browser. I'm using this vCard generator code from CodeProject.com I've played with the System.Encoding sample code at the bottom of this linked MSDN page to convert the unicode string into bytes and then write the ascii bytes but then I get Montr?al Qu?bec (progress but not a win). Also I've tried setting content type to both us-ascii and utf-8 of the response. If I open the downloaded vCard in Windows Notepad and save it as ANSI text (instead of default unicode format) and open in Outlook it's okay. So my assumption is I need to cause download of ANSI charset but am unsure if I'm doing it wrong or have a misunderstanding of where to start. Update: Looking at the raw HTTP, it appears my French characters are being downloaded in the unexpected format so it looks like I need to do some work on the server side... (full size)
