  • SharePoint Saturday DC 2010 Slides, Demo Scripts, and Pictures

    Wow! This past weekend I attended SharePoint Saturday Washington DC (SPSDC) which was quite an event to say the least.  For those unfamiliar, SharePoint Saturday is a community driven event where various speakers gather to present at a FREE conference on all topics related to SharePoint.  This made my fifth SharePoint Saturday attended and fourth I’ve spoken at.  SPSDC was a bit different than most SharePoint Saturdays mostly due to the scale of it.  We had almost 950 attendees, over 80 speakers presenting close to 90 sessions, and dozens of sponsors.  A big thanks goes out to the organizers of this event.  They put in a lot of hard work and time to pull this event off and should be very proud of the end result.      For SPSDC I presented “The Power of PowerShell + SharePoint 2007”.  I want to thank all of the attendees of my session for coming and asking some great questions.  Below you can find the slides and demo scripts for this session.  I also took some photos throughout the day (not as many as usual since so much going on) so check them out.  If you have any follow up questions feel free to drop me a line in the comments or the contact link at the top of the site.   Slides and Scripts Click here for the demo scripts and slides posted on my SkyDrive.   • Shooting Print Quality Pictures with a Camera Phone [Video]

    Camera phones get a lot of grief for being underpowered but in this video tutorial the crew at SLR Lounge shows how basic technique and a good eye overcome all. Last year over at the photo blog FStoppers they put together a video showing off how you could use the iPhone as a fashion camera–essentially arguing that the camera wasn’t as important as the photographer. A lot of people said “Well yeah, but you had professional models and thousands of dollars in lighting equipment!” in reaction to the video. In turn the crew at SLR Lounge decided to make their own video showing that using only an iPhone camera and two reflectors (as well as an attractive but informal model). It of course helps to have some side kicks to help hold up your reflectors but the point still stands about modern camera phones being perfectly capable of good photos.     Problem I printed a picture using Windows Photo Viewer, and the resulting print was significantly darker than the original image. It was almost completely black. I'm using a Brother HL-2270DW printer.   • Problem with saving pictures in certain ways [migrated]

    I am making a Garfield comic viewer in C#. I have a button that saves the comic on screen to the computer. However, when I compile it from Visual C# Express, it saves perfectly. When I run the exe file from the directory, I get an unhandled exception message stating "A generic error occurred in GDI+".   • .net clipboard metadata (or whatever skype quotations use)

    Is it possible to use the Clipboard class to grab all the data from the clipboard, like full skype quotes? They use some kind of metadata I think, which is how it knows when something is a quote or not. How can I access that from the Clipboard class? What functions would I call to set/restore Skype quotations? Thanks for the help!

Usually I would try to learn thisngs myself first before bothering others, but my situation is urgent - if I don't act now and don't download all my family pictures from this website, it will be closed in about two weeks from now and I will loose all of them. So, please help me. I have already asked a question about how to download from my website all my pictures automatically here and I was advised to use Wget. But I don't know the very basics as to how to use it. The basics are not explained on that page. In that questioned that I asked I was even given this line: wget -r -A .jpg,.gif,.png but I don't know what I am supposed to do with it in order to get the Wget going and download all the pictures from my website. Please, help me somebody!

  • How can I get pictures from Shotwell on the notebook to the desktop?

    My father has a desktop and a notebook. The desktop is way more powerful and has RAID set up, so he uses it for editing and storing his pictures. But he spends several months a year away from home. So he has a notebook for this. He imports the pictures into shotwell on his computer. He likes to organise his pictures on the notebook already, by creating and naming the right events, deleting pictures and sometimes editing a bit. When he is back home, he wants to get his pictures on the desktop, without losing the names of the events in shotwell. Sadly, one cannot merge two shotwell databases, nor is it possible to import another database. Do you know any way, I can manage this? Or did I just miss something?

  • Best way to get photoshop to optimise 35 related pictures for fast transmission

    I have 35 pictures taken from a stationary camera aimed at a lightbox in which an object is placed, rotated at 10 degrees in each picture. If I cycle through the pictures quickly, the image looks like it is rotating. If I wished to 'rotate' the object in a browser but wanted to transmit as little data as possible for this, I thought it might be a good idea to split the picture into 36 pictures, where 1 picture is any background the images have in common, and 35 pictures minus the background, just showing the things that have changed. Do you think this approach will work? Is there a better route? How would I achieve this in photoshop?

  • Recovering Pictures & Movies from Formatted Memory Card

    I thought I've copied all of the pictures and videos that I've taken using my digital camera Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS to my computer. Then I format the memory card. Then I found I didn't take all of the files! I don't have any other means of connecting the memory card to computer except via the camera. But the camera doesn't show it as a removable device directly in my computer so programs like Glary Utilities and PC Inspector didn't find the drive. I didn't take any picture after I formatted it. Is there any free software that can help me to get the pictures and videos? My memory card is an 4 GB SDHC card. Thanks.

  • Best idea dataserver serving small pictures 40 ko

    I'm designing the server structure for my application in case things go well. I have one server DB connected to multiple server who process connections. All those with lots of RAM and fast processors. (still looking for a way to use the multithread because now it's dumb apache php... so loooots of ram needed). Upon an answer from those servers, the client can then connect to another server to retrieve pictures using the address he previously got from the db. Is it a good idea to have one database server with let's say nginx and ssd disk having to send all pictures to everybody? or should I have multiple server accessing to a shared ssd disk drive or multiple disk updating each other? Also should I put a lot of RAM on the database server? because probably there wont be a picture more popular than another.

  • Remove Pictures Entry from Start Menu

    I want to remove the Pictures item from the topmost section of the Windows-7 Start Menu, but there is no option to do so in the Tasbar and Start Menu Properties dialog. Expected: Actual: There are options to remove the other items (recorded tv, music, videos, etc.), and the option is present in the registry (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartMenu\StartPanel\MyPics\Hide\CheckedValue=dword:0), but it just doesn’t reflect in the Start Menu (Pictures is still shown while the others are removed). Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Could it be a bug? (It's strange that only this one Start Menu item is broken.)

    Well, as everyone knows there is no way you can assign permissions for Copy/Paste of files on windows platform. I need to control the copy process from a central file server, in a way that helps me know: which user performed the copy Which files were copied where did he pasted them Total size of data copied Time of copy operation If user exceeds the allowed "Copy-Limit", a dialog box requests him to enter administrative credentials or deny him (as it would be configured) Store all this data in a file for later review or send by email. I need to collect this data by putting a utility program on the server itself, without any other installation on client computers. I know about monitoring the Clipboard, but which clipboard would it be? the user's clipboard or the server's clipboard ? And what about drag-drop operation, which doesn't even pass through the clipboard? Any knowledge of whether SystemFileWatcher is useful in such case ? Any ideas ?

  • How to share text, pictures and video to restricted set of users

    I want to share pictures and videos of my kid growing up but I don't want it to be open to the public. I just want me and my wife to be able to add material and then share with grandparents and friends who would be given a username/password or some other solution that authenticates them. This content would preferably be available remotely over the internet or downloaded periodically to the allowed viewers computers. The second option most likely means they would have to install a client, which I am not too fond of doing (I would have to ask them to install it, help configure for different platforms, ...) I'm at the start but I would like software that also allows export of the data (if one day I want to migrate to a different solution). Folder sharing I don't know if Windows folder sharing is reliable, robust and safe enough to share over the internet. Dropbox could be a software solution, but it's limited to 2GB and requires receivers to also install and configure software. A folder is just a collection of files, so it would be harder to keep them organized with text describing the pictures/video Email I could email the content every now and then but videos are almost always too big to go as attachments This would also not provide a history of updates to anyone just recently joining in Are there other solutions to achieve this? NOTE: I also thought that software to run a local or remote blog could be an option but we aren't allowed to ask those questions on superuser because one admin doesn't like cloud-computing questions. But if you do think it's the best approach and can suggest a solution, do state it in the answers anyway!

  • How to Send the Contents of the Clipboard to a Text File via the Send to Menu

    We have previously covered how to send the contents of a text file to the Windows Clipboard with a simple Send To shortcut, but what if you want to do the opposite? That is: send the contents of the clipboard to a text file with a simple shortcut. No problem. Here’s how. Copy the ClipOut Utility While Windows offers the command line tool ‘clip’ as a way to direct console output to the clipboard, it does not have a tool to direct the clipboard contents to the console. To do this, we are going to use a small utility named ClipOut (download link at the bottom). Simply download and extract this file to a location in your Windows PATH variable (if you don’t know what this means, just extract the EXE to your C:\Windows folder) and you are ready to go. Add the Send To Shortcut Open your Send To folder location by going to Run > shell:sendto Create a new shortcut with the command: CMD /C ClipOut > Note the above command will overwrite the contents of the selected file. If you would like to append to the contents of the selected file, use this command instead: CMD /C ClipOut >> Of course, you could make shortcuts for both. Give a descriptive name to the shortcut. You’re finished. Using this shortcut will now send the text contents copied to your Windows Clipboard to the selected file. It is important to note that the ClipOut tool only supports outputting text. If you had binary data copied to your clipboard, then the output would be empty. Changing the Icon By default, the icon for the shortcut will appear as a command prompt, but you can easily change this by editing the properties of the shortcut and clicking the Change Icon button. We used an icon located in “%SystemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll”, but any icon of your liking will do. As an additional tweak, you can set the properties of the shortcut to run minimized. This will prevent the command window from “blinking” when the send to command is run (instead it will blink in your taskbar, which is hardly noticeable). Links Download ClipOut Utility
