• Uncontrolled Fan and Crash

  I don't have sensors to properly run lm-sensors. The computer will turn on but shortly there after all the fans in it will speed way up. It stays like this for a few minutes and then the computer shuts off. Tried resetting the BIO. Went to try installing a BIOs update but it wont stay on long enough for me to try that or to do a clean install. Could this be the motherboard dying? It's mainly the CPU fan that ends up going max. after a few minutes. I checked the PSU and It's a Dell Inspiron 580. If you need more system specs just le me know.

• Lenovo Y460 heats up with Ubuntu 11.10

  I'm new with Ubuntu and I'm enjoying my experience with Ubuntu 11.10 on my Lenovo ideapad Y460. I'm dual booting Ubuntu with Windows 7 64 bit. It's great using Ubuntu, however I noticed that my laptop heats up rather quickly when I use Ubuntu. Does this have to do with drivers? I have Nvidia GT 425M graphics, but I don't know if this information is relevant. My fans are just not working right as they do in Windows 7. Did I miss installing something or what am I doing wrong?

• Blank Processes (?) in Natty Narwhal

  I've noticed that there a seemingly blank processes (no process name, no cmdline info, only an ID), which also appear to cause my CPU to be running like crazy. My fans are going pretty much full speed and I have no idea what to do. Restarting does not help. Whenever I try to kill the process IDs, nothing happens. It's like new blank processes are continuously being created. I am really surprised that I am able to write up this question without Firefox lagging like crazy (and trust me, it's not Firefox causing the issue, as far as I can tell).

• Why is web app development path in Java this much confusing? [closed]

  I'm currently a .net web developer and I really like to switch to Java. I've used JSP about 7 years ago to develop and deploy a small web application on a JRUN app server. But after 7 years that I like to return back to Java, I can't find the clue. There are many web development frameworks that exist in Java world and each of them has fans that recommand it. There are extensions that sit above jvm for web development (like jRuby i think). I am confused and I do not know where to start the path of learning java web development. I do not want to focus on custom tailor-made approaches and want to remain on the basic path of developing with standard tools and methods and deploy them into standard app servers. (For example some says do not use EJBs, some says focus on MVC facilities like JSF. I'm confused and I do not know the path that i should go on)

  It's a bit subjective but helpful and on-topic IMO, mayebe should be made community wiki I've been in contact with some guest bloggers lately which are interested in publishing posts on my website's blog, so far I've done a regular weekly blog and had a guy marketing it, but he's too busy to do more work right now. Now I need someone to market these blog posts on social media, the last guy I just got by recommendation from a friend, but now I need to find one myself. What criteria should I check when it comes to social media marketers? Do the number of followers and fans on their accounts and/or the number of votes they get for articles they market mean anything, or is impossible to know if it's spam?   I want to create an application and maybe upload it to the play store but I am not sure if that what my app does is legal or not. I am downloading a page's source from a website to get some information I need. For example if I download a page about the song "Ramble On" by Led Zeppelin and parse this page source to get the song's name, maybe a link to an image and the lyrics. Would that be illegal or can I display these information to my users without getting any problem? Also the website says it's an "open 'wiki-style' [...].It's completely user built by people like you and used every day by fans and developers alike."

  Im relatively new at Ubuntu and have found an answer to basically every single issue ive ever had thru this site... Otherthan this. I have been toying with the idea of a Corsair h80i for my dual boot system (win7/U12.10) and mostly use it in ubuntu. I have done some research on the interweb regarding fan control in linux and nearly ran up short untill I came across this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-2096166.html And it seems to have worked around it. (altho I have not tested it for myself) Is there any program/library/source that can be used to control the fans without having to MacGuyver it??

  I recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my Dell Inspiron 7520. Everything is good except the hyperactive fans.The graphic cards are Intel and AMD Radeon 7730. I am trying to get away with the fan problem butI don't really know the terminal hence I am just trying to use the commands available on the forums.But this time I don't know what did I do that now I don't have the utility bar, launch bar and the basic features like the window minimize and maximize don't work. I have this impression I may have uninstalled some drivers . But still not sure what to do. Feel a need of dire help!

• CPU temperature is high on Ubuntu

  So I have a machine which has both latest *Ubuntu and Windows 8 on it. On windows 8 my CPU temp is roughtly 26 degrees when idle. Now when I boot into Ubuntu, CPU temperature is suddenly 43 degrees when idle, plus my fans are making a lot of noise which is probably because of the CPU degrees. Why is that? Everywhere I read it says the Linux is much better at managing CPU and so on. But yet it seems something is wrong. It is a stock installation of Ubuntu 14.04 and my CPU is a Intel i5-4570

• How to reduce noise in Skype?

  According to Alsamixer I do have a HDA Intel soundcard with Nvidia MCP77/78 HDMI chip (Realtek sound card on MSI notebook). When I use Skype under Ubuntu 12.04 for video calls, the other side hears background noise such as in Windows when you have your microphone boosted. In fact they can hear everything, even the fans turning on. There is nothing tweaked on Ubuntu's fresh installation. Also tried this site: https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/alsa-daily/+packages , but there are no *.deb files that I can test if any fix the problem. The question is if there is a way to add/tweak something to enable on software level the noise cancellation like the Windows sound drivers have that option. I use my build in mic.

  Last few days i found out that when i click google chrome and the open it my laptop starts being angry.That's fans are working hardly and i can not touch the mousepad because of heating.I use Ubuntu 11.10 on my Toshiba A350-22z laptop and monitor cpu and harddrive temperature.Both cores reached 104 Celcius and i read somewhere "if your processor reaches 105Celcius it harms itself".I cleaned inside of laptop a year ago but there is a point : until wheather becomes about 20Celcius there was no problem.I know hardware cleaning is the best solution but how can i solve with another way ? I think problem is about outside's hot wheather.Is there anybody that has the same problem.In addition to Google Chrome i realized that when i open online video the processor temperature increas very fast.

• Ideal laptop specs for a Computer Science Masters student? [closed]

  I have a HP pavillion core 2 duo 2 GHz and 4 GB RAM, and it is painful to use this machine for any kind of coding. Eclipse (especially Juno) literally takes 5 minutes to load. And even after that, everything is lagy. Apart from school stuff, I also use my computer as a television. I watch Hulu, Netflix, YouTube etc in 720p, and this laptop gets hot as hell and the fans are loud enough to wake somebody up from deep sleep. I DON'T use my laptop for Gaming or Video/Photo Editing. I'm looking to buy a new laptop (in which most widely used IDEs would work smoothly and playing hi-def videos wouldn't be too much for the machine to handle) any suggestions (on hardware specs) would be greatly appreciated. • High temperature on my laptop with Radeon Mobility HD4670

  As almost everyone here, I guess, in these days I downloaded Quantal Quetzal to give it a try. However I noticed that my laptop runs fairly hot with cooling fans almost always on, even sitting in the desktop doing nothing. I downloaded XSensor to read temperature sensors, and I saw that while CPU stays on about 65°C, so quiet normal I guess, the GPU sits at 75°C. In comparison my actual Windows 7 installation, which dual boots witb Quantal, stays at 59°C CPU and 65°C. So I went reading and learned that AMD dropped support for my video card from fglrx package, and that fglrx-legacy won't support 1.13 Xorg, so I'm basically stuck with OSS drivers. So I was guessing if there's anything I can try, and if it's possible that the OSS drivers could be the cause of the high temperature?

• Installed thinkfan, should I keep it?

  Well I did fixed my overheating problem on my Lenovo T500 with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. At the same time I did install Thinkfan. But since I have a solution for overheating now, I would like to know if there is any really good reason to keep it? My fan speed without it was cca 3000 RPM. When it installed droped to 2500RPM in idle time. Thinkpad have very quiet fans, so I don't really hear the noise when is on 3000RPM (no difference between 2000 or 3000 RPM). Is it better for processor to have more air or more air brings just more dust? Silly question but I would REALLY want to know the reason of keeping thinkfan.
