    I'm developing an Feed reader app. Feeds are downloaded to my server when someone requests it. then they download to user's computer. There will be 1-2 minutes cache for popular feeds. We expect that there will be 1000-5000 users (that use our app) Is a shared hosting (which currently serves almost 100 website, and it will serve 500 websites at maximum) enough for this purpose? or we should look for VPS or Dedicated hosting? Note: Our shared hosting plan has unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth.

    I'm not sure if this has been answered already...anyhow, I'm placing this question, so you could help. I've been a PC user for as long as I can remember, and I've just migrated to Ubuntu. So far the product has delivered the satisfaction I am expecting. However, there is one program that I'll need to ensure my productivity--an updated version of the Adobe REader. Is there any way I could get this program via Ubuntu, without using WINE? please let me know... thanks!

    I used blogspot.com and restricted its viewership to just its authors. However I cannot use Google Reader to subscribe to the RSS feed. Is there a workaround? I need to be notified somehow whenever somebody posts to that private blog. I am one of its authors. My blogspot.com allows me to set the readership to just its authors. So that is what I have done. I did not do any password protect settings at all.

    I am creating a LaTeX document in TeXnicCenter with LaTeX = PDF profile. There is a feature which allows to open and scroll auto-generated PDF to the paragraph that is under the cursor in TeXnicCenter. This works with Sumatra PDF and the feature is called "Forward search" in Profile settings, "Viewer" tab. I would like to have the same feature with Adobe Reader. Is this possible at all? Do I have to use "command line" or "DDE command" setting? What do I have to fill in "Command", "Server", "Topic" fields in the Profile settings?

    If you’re a fan of the wildly popular RPG game Skyrim, you’ve undoubtedly discovered the books sprinkled throughout the Empire. This collection brings them all together for out-of-game reading. Blogger and Skyrim fan Capaneus enjoyed reading the in-game books so much (found on the shelves of homes and otherwise scattered throughout the virtual world) that he did a little digging in the game files to turn up the source of the books.     Instead of creating a fullblown NetBeans Platform application for doing WYSIWYG editing for EPUB, similar to Sigil, I decided to focus purely on the very narrow scope of EPUB reading. The scope is narrower and, since the application will be a lot less ambitious and smaller, a pure JavaFX implementation makes sense. When you somehow get, e.g., buy, an EPUB file, you typically read it on a tablet or mobile device. However, some people in the world, e.g., me, still have laptops. Therefore, I'm creating a small JavaFX application that unzips EPUB files, into a temp directory, and then loads them into a JavaFX WebView. Arabic support: For an application like this, simplicity is the most important thing. Very few buttons, very few options, preferably no configuration of anything. Just let the user open the EPUB file and read it, that's it, nothing fancy. CSS stylesheets and images are correctly read. It's exactly what it looks like, a reader for EPUB files. The back and forward buttons are working and you can also switch to the table of contents. When it is complete, which it pretty much is right now, publishers of EPUB files can make this small app available from their site, to simplify life for their readers, since it will run easily and well on all operating systems.

    Hi, I modified Magento pdf invoice with Zend_PDF. Output PDF looks fine on google doc and my local pdf reader (PDF+), but not on adobe reader 9. PDF on google and my local pdf reader http://babostory.com/local_google.gif PDF on Adobe Reader 9 http://babostory.com/adobe_reader.gif is this a bug or am I missing something?

    My site is using enterprise library v 5.0. Mainly the DAAB. Some functions such as executescalar, executedataset are working as expected. The problems appear when I start to use Readers I have this function in my includes class: Public Function AssignedDepartmentDetail(ByVal Did As Integer) As SqlDataReader Dim reader As SqlDataReader Dim Command As SqlCommand = db.GetSqlStringCommand("select seomthing from somewhere where something = @did") db.AddInParameter(Command, "@did", Data.DbType.Int32, Did) reader = db.ExecuteReader(Command) reader.Read() Return reader End Function This is called from my aspx.vb like so: reader = includes.AssignedDepartmentDetail(Did) If reader.HasRows Then TheModule = reader("templatefilename") PageID = reader("id") Else TheModule = "#" End If This gives the following error on db.ExecuteReader line: Unable to cast object of type 'Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.RefCountingDataReader' to type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader'. Can anyone shed any light on how I go about getting this working. Will I always run into problems when dealing with readers via entlib?

  • Magnetic Stripe Reader over Terminal Server has random Uppercase/Lowercase nonsense

    The Magnetic Stripe Reader that I'm using and testing is just supposed to be sending keystrokes. Unfortunately, it seems to randomly be sending upper case and lower case keystrokes, sometimes substituting % for 5 and ^ for 6 and vice versa. (If you've ever programmed for a magnetic strip reader, you know that's not a good thing.) Is there something in the RDP protocol that causes this? I've got kind of a convoluted system, running XP inside virtualbox on Fedora 11 RDP'ed into a win2k3 server. It works on the XP VM and it doesn't work on the RDP'ed one. What's weirder, is that I'm not even emulating the USB drivers for my Mag Card Reader. Linux is sending keystrokes straight in to windows, and MSTSC on windows XP is sending crap to the Win2k3 server. I'm 99% certain this isn't a problem with the card reader, it has nothing to do with my programming either. (I get the same junk coming into notepad that I get coming into our software [that's why I didn't ask on SO]). And, it works with rdesktop programs other than MSTSC.exe! Needless to say, I'm in need of some RDP Guruship.

  • How to correctly deploy Adobe Reader 9.1

    Hi I have recently tried to deploy Adobe Reader 9.1 onto our network here. (SBS 2003 server and XP Workstations) I followed the instructions for the extraction of the installer and .msi and then creating a .mst transform file to set custom options. (Suppress EULA, dont create desktop icon etc) I then added the package to my deployment GPO applied the relevant .mst file and preceded to deploy accross the network. The software package is computer assigned to be installed prior to logon, to avoid user permissions issues. The package deploys correctly to computers and will run perfectly fine if you run from a shortcut, however when trying to view a pdf from within a web browser it fails with the following message. "The adobe acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again" I have found many pages on google refering to this problem, but none appear to be in relation the problems I have found. http :// kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405461.html These fixes recommend correcting a registry entry (which i should mention is missing after the deployed installation. However this does not work. Switching off display in a browser - Seems to defeat the object of fixing the problem Removing old versions - There arent any. Trying with a different user - This affects all users of all privalige levels on all computers. On my workstation I uninstalled Acrobat Reader 9.1 then reinstalled manually using the same installation source files and it works fine. has anyone sucsessfully deployed AR9.1 on their domain and if so how? For the time being I have downloaded the older 8.1.3 release and deployed this in the same way which works fine, but would like to be using the up to date version. Thanks

  • What is a good Foxit reader equivalent (or other PDF editor)?

    On Windows, I have found Foxit Reader to be quite handy when I need to highlight texts in PDF document, make annotations, etc. etc. Unfortunately, I have not yet found product as user friendly (which also does not corrupt PDF files...) and full-featured as Foxit software... Any recommendations? ** UPDATE ** I just tried the Open Office PDF import extension. It seems to work ok... If anyone used it for a while, I'd appreciate your feedback on that one. Thanks! ** UPDATE ** You can't highlight text with OpenOffice's PDF extension. Doesn't matter, I was reading this thread and found out about Xournal . As it turns out, it's in the repository. It does not natively save in PDF, but once all edits are done, the document can be exported to PDF (and overwrite the old one, just like Gimp with the native .XCE format and original PNG file, for example) I realize that this question is no longer a question in itself, but could be migrated to community wiki. However, feedbacks are still welcome! ** EDIT ** So... to close up this question, I have to say that I adopted Xournal . It is light and works pretty well, even on multi-page PDF documents.   • Which e-reader for O'Reilly books?

    Most of my programming books are from O'Reilly. Several of them need to be updated, and I'm thinking of going for an e-reader this time. O'Reilly sell their e-books as a multi-format bundle (PDF, EPUB and Mobipocket (Kindle)). Has anyone done a comparison of the formats as for suitability on a small e-reader screen? In Europe, the Kindle DX is not (yet?) available, so I'm not sure whether a Kindle or a Sony (or some other reader) is best suited for these books. Disregarding other advantages/disadvantages of the different readers for now, which one in your opinion gives the best experience with O'Reilly books in particular (or programming books in general)?

  • O'Reilly Safari Books Online and Sony Reader

    I've accumulated a good collection of book snippets in pdf format from Safari Online and I was thinking about getting an ebook reader, specifically the Sony-PRS300, to hold them all for portable reference. If anyone has done this, two questions. Are there any DRM restrictions when the pdfs are put on the reader? I can't see any restrictions flat out in the pdfs on my notebook. There's a watermark that says the pdf is licensed to me. How good is the reader at rendering complex pdfs, with code snippets and illustrations? I read a previous post where it works fine in landscape mode. I can deal with that. Thanks in advance.

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Replication log reader could not execute sp_replcmds

    This log reader agent worked perfectly for several months until the user referenced in the error was removed from the domain. After that time the error 'The process could not execute 'sp_replcmds' on 'SERVER'' was received with more detail 'Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user' that referenced said user. This user was referenced nowhere in the the log reader agent other than the Publication Access List from which it was subsequenctly removed. The agent would still not successfully start up. The simple problem here, I believe, is that the log reader agent was created under that user and that no longer exists in the domain. Is there an 'owner' somewhere that needs to be changed? Every other function on the database continues to execute successfully. Any other help or thought would be appreciated.

  • Dynamically generated PDF files working in most readers except Adobe Reader

    I'm trying to dynamically generate PDFs from user input, where I basically print the user input and overlay it on an existing PDF that I did not create. It works, with one major exception. Adobe Reader doesn't read it properly, on Windows or on Linux. QuickOffice on my phone doesn't read it either. So I thought I'd trace the path of me creating the files - 1 - Original PDF of background PDF 1.2 made with Adobe Distiller with the LZW encoding. I didn't make this. 2 - PDF of background PDF 1.4 made with Ghostscript. I used pdf2ps then ps2pdf on the above to strip LZW so that the reportlab and pyPDF libraries would recognize it. Note that this file looks "fuzzy," like a bad scan, in Adobe Reader, but looks fine in other readers. 3 - PDF of user-input text formatted to be combined with background PDF 1.3 made with Reportlab from user input. Opens properly and looks good in every reader I've tried. 4 - Finished PDF PDF 1.3 made from PyPDF's mergePage() function on 2 and 3. Does not open in: Adobe Reader for Windows Adobe Reader for Linux QuickOffice for Android Opens perfectly in: Google Docs' PDF viewer on the web evince for linux ghostscript viewer for linux Foxit reader for Windows Preview for Mac Are there known issues that I should know about? I don't know exactly what "flate" is, but from the internet I gather that it's some sort of open source alternative to LZW for PDF compression? Could that be causing my problem? If so, are there any libraries I could use to fix the cause in my code?

    I was unable to activate Safari Reader in a local HTML file, so I cannot give you a running example but only describe my problem: The markup of my blog posts is basically this: <div class="post"> <div class="post-header">Hello, World</div> <div class="post-body"> <p>Look at this picture:</p> <p><img src="http://37prime.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/safari_icon.png"/></p> <p>Isn't that a nice picture?</p> </div> </div> This looks as expected in all browsers, including Safari. In Safari Reader however, the third paragraph "Isn't that a nice picture?" is floating around the image, instead of being on a paragraph of it's own. Has anybody experienced a similar problem?

The feed urls have to be added by hand tipically with the copy/paste method, and I don't like this option because is poor for the users. My question is: can I do like in webpage http://feeds2.feedburner.com/microsiervos a list of web applications (Google Reader, Netvibes, etc.). There is a way to do so? I may have to create a firefox addon? I'm quite lost, I think...   • How do I simulate overprinting in Adobe Reader?

    On both Mac and Windows when I print a document there is an advanced screen that allows me to select an option called Simulate Overprinting, however such an option doesn't appear on the Ubuntu version. Wikipedia on overprinting: Overprinting refers to the process of printing one colour on top of another in reprographics. This is closely linked to the reprographic technique of 'trapping'. Another use of overprinting is to create a rich black (often regarded as a colour that is "blacker than black") by printing black over another dark colour. This is an issue for us, as we're trying to print documents that need flattening (this is what overprinting does). Am I missing something here, is there a way to enable overprinting on printed PDFs? Note: Please don't confuse simulate overprinting with overprint preview, of which doesn't apply when printing. Just to show you what I'm looking for, this is the Print > Advanced screen... And this is what I see on the Ubuntu screen, not no option for overprinting
