  • Assemblies mysteriously loaded into new AppDomains

    - by Eric
    I'm testing some code that does work whenever assemblies are loaded into an appdomain. For unit testing (in VS2k8's built-in test host) I spin up a new, uniquely-named appdomain prior to each test with the idea that it should be "clean": [TestInitialize()] public void CalledBeforeEachTestMethod() { AppDomainSetup appSetup = new AppDomainSetup(); appSetup.ApplicationBase = @"G:\<ProjectDir>\bin\Debug"; Evidence baseEvidence = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.Evidence; Evidence evidence = new Evidence( baseEvidence ); _testAppDomain = AppDomain.CreateDomain( "myAppDomain" + _appDomainCounter++, evidence, appSetup ); } [TestMethod] public void MissingFactoryCausesAppDomainUnload() { SupportingClass supportClassObj = (SupportingClass)_testAppDomain.CreateInstanceAndUnwrap( GetType().Assembly.GetName().Name, typeof( SupportingClass ).FullName ); try { supportClassObj.LoadMissingRegistrationAssembly(); Assert.Fail( "Should have nuked the app domain" ); } catch( AppDomainUnloadedException ) { } } [TestMethod] public void InvalidFactoryMethodCausesAppDomainUnload() { SupportingClass supportClassObj = (SupportingClass)_testAppDomain.CreateInstanceAndUnwrap( GetType().Assembly.GetName().Name, typeof( SupportingClass ).FullName ); try { supportClassObj.LoadInvalidFactoriesAssembly(); Assert.Fail( "Should have nuked the app domain" ); } catch( AppDomainUnloadedException ) { } } public class SupportingClass : MarshalByRefObject { public void LoadMissingRegistrationAssembly() { MissingRegistration.Main(); } public void LoadInvalidFactoriesAssembly() { InvalidFactories.Main(); } } If every test is run individually I find that it works correctly; the appdomain is created and has only the few intended assemblies loaded. However, if multiple tests are run in succession then each _testAppDomain already has assemblies loaded from all previous tests. Oddly enough, the two tests get appdomains with different names. The test assemblies that define MissingRegistration and InvalidFactories (two different assemblies) are never loaded into the unit test's default appdomain. Can anyone explain this behavior?

  • How to calculate commision based on referred memebrs?

    - by RAJKISHOR SAHU
    Hello everybody, I am developing a small software in C# WPF for a consultancy which does chain system business. I have coded tree structure to show who referred whom. Now it has commission depending on level. If 1 referred 2 & 3 then 1 will get level-1 commission. If 2 referred 4, 5 & 3 referred 6, 7 then 1 will receive level-2 commission. This chain will go on to certain total number. My problem is how I would implement this logic; I am able to calculate who has referred how many members via UDF written for adding TreeViewItem to TreeView. Or tell me how I can count items in treeview in certain level? Node adding UDF: public void AddNodes(int uid, TreeViewItem tSubNode) { string query = "select fullname, id from members where refCode=" + uid + ";"; MySqlCommand cmd = new MySqlCommand(query, db.conn); MySqlDataAdapter _DA = new MySqlDataAdapter(cmd); DataTable _DT = new DataTable(); tSubNode.IsExpanded = true; _DA.Fill(_DT); foreach (DataRow _dr in _DT.Rows) { TreeViewItem tNode = new TreeViewItem(); tNode.Header = _dr["fullname"].ToString()+" ("+_dr["id"].ToString()+")"; tSubNode.Items.Add(tNode); if (db.HasMembers(Convert.ToInt32(_dr["id"].ToString()))) { AddNodes(Convert.ToInt32(_dr["id"]), tNode); } } //This line tracks who has referred how many members Console.WriteLine("Tree node Count : "+tSubNode.Items.Count.ToString()+", UID "+uid); } Help me PLEASE!!!!

  • LINQ-to-SQL - Join, Count

    - by ile
    I have following query: var result = ( from role in db.Roles join user in db.Users on role.RoleID equals user.RoleID where user.CreatedByUserID == userID orderby user.FirstName ascending select new UserViewModel { UserID = user.UserID, PhotoID = user.PhotoID.ToString(), FirstName = user.FirstName, LastName = user.LastName, FullName = user.FirstName + " " + user.LastName, Email = user.Email, PhoneNumber = user.Phone, AccessLevel = role.Name }); Now, I need to modify this query... Other table I have is table Deals. I would like to count how many deals user created last month and last year. I tried something like this: var result = ( from role in db.Roles join user in db.Users on role.RoleID equals user.RoleID //join dealsYear in db.Deals on date.Year equals dealsYear.DateCreated.Year join dealsYear in ( from deal in db.Deals group deal by deal.DateCreated into d select new { DateCreated = d.Key, dealsCount = d.Count() } ) on date.Year equals dealsYear.DateCreated.Year into dYear join dealsMonth in ( from deal in db.Deals group deal by deal.DateCreated into d select new { DateCreated = d.Key, dealsCount = d.Count() } ) on date.Month equals dealsMonth.DateCreated.Month into dMonth where user.CreatedByUserID == userID orderby user.FirstName ascending select new UserViewModel { UserID = user.UserID, PhotoID = user.PhotoID.ToString(), FirstName = user.FirstName, LastName = user.LastName, FullName = user.FirstName + " " + user.LastName, Email = user.Email, PhoneNumber = user.Phone, AccessLevel = role.Name, DealsThisYear = dYear, DealsThisMonth = dMonth }); but here is even syntax not correct. Any idea? Btw, is there any good book of LINQ to SQL with examples?

  • TreeView Control Problem

    - by ProgNet
    Hi all, I have a public folder on the server that contains recursively nested sub folders. In the various Leaf folders contains Images. I wanted to create a server side file browser that will display the Images to the user. I am using the ASP.NET TreeView Control. I create the tree nodes using PopulateOnDemand. If the user click on a leaf directory I want the images in that folder to be displayed in a DataList Control. The problem is that when I click on a sub tree node (after I expanded it parent node) All the expanded sub tree disappears and only the parent node is showed with no + sign next to it !! ( I have set the TreeView's PopulateNodesFromClient property to true ) Can someone tell me what is the problem ?? Thanks Here is the code : <asp:TreeView ID="TreeView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateDataBindings="False" onselectednodechanged="TreeView1_SelectedNodeChanged" ontreenodepopulate="TreeView1_TreeNodePopulate"> </asp:TreeView> protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!Page.IsPostBack) { string path = Server.MapPath("."); PopulateTopNodes(path); } } private void PopulateTopNodes(string pathToRootFolder) { DirectoryInfo dirInfo = new DirectoryInfo(pathToRootFolder); DirectoryInfo[] dirs = dirInfo.GetDirectories(); foreach (DirectoryInfo dir in dirs) { TreeNode folderNode = new TreeNode(dir.Name,dir.FullName); if (dir.GetDirectories().Length > 0) { folderNode.PopulateOnDemand = true; folderNode.Collapse(); } TreeView1.Nodes.Add(folderNode); } } protected void TreeView1_TreeNodePopulate(object sender, TreeNodeEventArgs e) { if (IsCallback == true) { if (e.Node.ChildNodes.Count == 0) { LoadChildNode(e.Node); } } } private void LoadChildNode(TreeNode treeNode) { DirectoryInfo dirInfo = new DirectoryInfo(treeNode.Value); DirectoryInfo[] dirs = dirInfo.GetDirectories(); foreach (DirectoryInfo dir in dirs) { TreeNode folderNode = new TreeNode(dir.Name, dir.FullName); if(dir.GetDirectories().Length>0){ folderNode.PopulateOnDemand = true; folderNode.Collapse(); } treeNode.ChildNodes.Add(folderNode); } } protected void TreeView1_SelectedNodeChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Retrieve the images here }

  • Simple Fluent NHibernate Mapping Problem

    - by user500038
    I have the following tables I need to map: +-------------------------+ | Person | +-------------------------+ | PersonId | | FullName | +-------------------------+ +-------------------------+ | PersonAddress | +-------------------------+ | PersonId | | AddressId | | IsDefault | +-------------------------+ +-------------------------+ | Address | +-------------------------+ | AddressId | | State | +-------------------------+ And the following classes: public class Person { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string FullName { get; set; } } public class PersonAddress { public virtual Person Person { get; set; } public virtual Address Address { get; set; } public virtual bool IsDefault { get; set; } } public class Address { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string State { get; set; } } And finally the mappings: public class PersonMap : ClassMap<Person> { public PersonMap() { Id(x => x.Id, "PersonId"); } } public class PersonAddressMap : ClassMap<PersonAddress> { public PersonAddressMap() { CompositeId().KeyProperty(x => x.Person, "PersonID") .KeyProperty(x => x.Address, "AddressID"); } } public class AddressMap: ClassMap<Address> { public AddressMap() { Id(x => x.Id, "AddressId"); } } Assume I cannot alter the tables. If I take the mapping class (PersonAddress) out of the equation, everything works fine. If I put it back in I get: Could not determine type for: Person, Person, Version=1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null, for columns: NHibernate.Mapping.Column(PersonId) What am I missing here? I'm sure this must be simple.

  • multiple-to-one relationship mysql, submissions

    - by Yulia
    Hello, I have the following problem. Basically I have a form with an option to submit up to 3 images. Right now, after each submission it creates 3 records for album table and 3 records for images. I need it to be one record for album and 3 for images, plus to link images to the album. I hope it all makes sense... Here is my structure. TABLE `albums` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, `title` varchar(50) NOT NULL, `fullname` varchar(40) NOT NULL, `email` varchar(100) NOT NULL, `created_at` datetime NOT NULL, `theme_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `description` int(11) NOT NULL, `vote_cache` int(11) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=20 ; TABLE `images` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, `album_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `name` varchar(30) NOT NULL, and my code function create_album($params) { db_connect(); $query = sprintf("INSERT INTO albums set albums.title = '%s', albums.email = '%s', albums.discuss_url = '%s', albums.theme_id = '%s', albums.fullname = '%s', albums.description = '%s', created_at = NOW()", mysql_real_escape_string($params['title']), mysql_real_escape_string($params['email']), mysql_real_escape_string($params['theme_id']), mysql_real_escape_string($params['fullname']), mysql_real_escape_string($params['description']) ); $result = mysql_query($query); if(!$result) { return false; } $album_id = mysql_insert_id(); return $album_id; } if(!is_uploaded_file($_FILES['userfile']['tmp_name'][$i])) { $warning = 'No file uploaded'; } elseif is_valid_file_size($_FILES['userfile']['size'][$i])) { $_POST['album']['theme_id'] = $theme['id']; create_album($_POST['album']); mysql_query("INSERT INTO images(name) VALUES('$newName')"); copy($_FILES['userfile']['tmp_name'][$i], './photos/'.$original_dir.'/' .$newName.'.jpg');

  • Accessing and manipulating lwpf listbox datatemplate elements

    - by black sensei
    Hello good people , i'm trying to achieve a functionality but i'm don't know how to start it. I'm using vs 2008 sp1 and i'm consuming a webservice which returns a collection (is contactInfo[]) that i bind to a ListBox with little datatemplate on it. <ListBox Margin="-146,-124,-143,-118.808" Name="contactListBox" MaxHeight="240" MaxWidth="300" MinHeight="240" MinWidth="300"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock> <CheckBox Name="contactsCheck" Uid="{Binding fullName}" Checked="contacts_Checked" /><Label Content="{Binding fullName}" FontSize="15" FontWeight="Bold"/> <LineBreak/> <Label Content="{Binding mobile}" FontSize="10" FontStyle="Italic" Foreground="DimGray" /> <Label Content="{Binding email}" FontStyle="Italic" FontSize="10" Foreground="DimGray"/> </TextBlock> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> Every works fine so far. so When a checkbox is checked i'll like to access the information of the labels (either the) belonging to the same row or attached to it and append the information to a global variable for example (for each checkbox checked). My problem right now is that i don't know how to do that. Can any one shed some light on how to do that? if you notice Checked="contacts_Checked" that's where i planned to perform the operations. thanks for reading and helping out

  • Object Reference with TimeSpan/DateTime

    - by user1732039
    When creating an appointment i want to send an email out to the patient with details like Time, Date etc. I know the email service i have created works (i have tested it by hardcoding strings into the method with the problem. The Problem is that i am getting Object reference issues with converting the Time and Date to a string. It does create the appointment data in the database correctly (time and date). User_Doctor thisDoc = user_DoctorComboBox.SelectedItem as User_Doctor; User_Patient thisPatient = appointment_Patient_autoComplete.SelectedItem as User_Patient; Appointment App = AppointmentSlots.SelectedItem as Appointment; DateTime date = (DateTime)datePickerAppointment.SelectedDate; TimeSpan timeslot = App.Time; //For Emailing Patients string fullname = thisPatient.PatientName + " " + thisPatient.PatientSurname; string mestime = timeslot.ToString("HH:mm"); string mesdate = date.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy"); string email = thisPatient.aspnet_Users.aspnet_Membership.LoweredEmail; EmailServiceClient em = new EmailServiceClient(); em.createMessageAsync(email, "Upcomming Appointment", fullname, mestime, mesdate, thisDoc.aspnet_Users.UserName, true); The problem occures with the strings mestime and mesdate, as well as with getting the email of the user from the database (again this exists in the db, as a nvar)

  • TFS 2010 SDK: Connecting to TFS 2010 Programmatically&ndash;Part 1

    - by Tarun Arora
    Technorati Tags: Team Foundation Server 2010,TFS 2010 SDK,TFS API,TFS Programming,TFS ALM   Download Working Demo Great! You have reached that point where you would like to extend TFS 2010. The first step is to connect to TFS programmatically. 1. Download TFS 2010 SDK => http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/25622469-19d8-4959-8e5c-4025d1c9183d?SRC=VSIDE 2. Alternatively you can also download this from the visual studio extension manager 3. Create a new Windows Forms Application project and add reference to TFS Common and client dlls Note - If Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client and Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Common do not appear on the .NET tab of the References dialog box, use the Browse tab to add the assemblies. You can find them at %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\ReferenceAssemblies\v2.0. using Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client; using Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Framework.Client; using Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Framework.Common;   4. There are several ways to connect to TFS, the two classes of interest are, Option 1 – Class – TfsTeamProjectCollectionClass namespace Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client { public class TfsTeamProjectCollection : TfsConnection { public TfsTeamProjectCollection(RegisteredProjectCollection projectCollection); public TfsTeamProjectCollection(Uri uri); public TfsTeamProjectCollection(RegisteredProjectCollection projectCollection, IdentityDescriptor identityToImpersonate); public TfsTeamProjectCollection(Uri uri, ICredentials credentials); public TfsTeamProjectCollection(Uri uri, ICredentialsProvider credentialsProvider); public TfsTeamProjectCollection(Uri uri, IdentityDescriptor identityToImpersonate); public TfsTeamProjectCollection(RegisteredProjectCollection projectCollection, ICredentials credentials, ICredentialsProvider credentialsProvider); public TfsTeamProjectCollection(Uri uri, ICredentials credentials, ICredentialsProvider credentialsProvider); public TfsTeamProjectCollection(RegisteredProjectCollection projectCollection, ICredentials credentials, ICredentialsProvider credentialsProvider, IdentityDescriptor identityToImpersonate); public TfsTeamProjectCollection(Uri uri, ICredentials credentials, ICredentialsProvider credentialsProvider, IdentityDescriptor identityToImpersonate); public override CatalogNode CatalogNode { get; } public TfsConfigurationServer ConfigurationServer { get; internal set; } public override string Name { get; } public static Uri GetFullyQualifiedUriForName(string name); protected override object GetServiceInstance(Type serviceType, object serviceInstance); protected override object InitializeTeamFoundationObject(string fullName, object instance); } } Option 2 – Class – TfsConfigurationServer namespace Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client { public class TfsConfigurationServer : TfsConnection { public TfsConfigurationServer(RegisteredConfigurationServer application); public TfsConfigurationServer(Uri uri); public TfsConfigurationServer(RegisteredConfigurationServer application, IdentityDescriptor identityToImpersonate); public TfsConfigurationServer(Uri uri, ICredentials credentials); public TfsConfigurationServer(Uri uri, ICredentialsProvider credentialsProvider); public TfsConfigurationServer(Uri uri, IdentityDescriptor identityToImpersonate); public TfsConfigurationServer(RegisteredConfigurationServer application, ICredentials credentials, ICredentialsProvider credentialsProvider); public TfsConfigurationServer(Uri uri, ICredentials credentials, ICredentialsProvider credentialsProvider); public TfsConfigurationServer(RegisteredConfigurationServer application, ICredentials credentials, ICredentialsProvider credentialsProvider, IdentityDescriptor identityToImpersonate); public TfsConfigurationServer(Uri uri, ICredentials credentials, ICredentialsProvider credentialsProvider, IdentityDescriptor identityToImpersonate); public override CatalogNode CatalogNode { get; } public override string Name { get; } protected override object GetServiceInstance(Type serviceType, object serviceInstance); public TfsTeamProjectCollection GetTeamProjectCollection(Guid collectionId); protected override object InitializeTeamFoundationObject(string fullName, object instance); } }   Note – The TeamFoundationServer class is obsolete. Use the TfsTeamProjectCollection or TfsConfigurationServer classes to talk to a 2010 Team Foundation Server. In order to talk to a 2005 or 2008 Team Foundation Server use the TfsTeamProjectCollection class. 5. Sample code for programmatically connecting to TFS 2010 using the TFS 2010 API How do i know what the URI of my TFS server is, Note – You need to be have Team Project Collection view details permission in order to connect, expect to receive an authorization failure message if you do not have sufficient permissions. Case 1: Connect by Uri string _myUri = @"https://tfs.codeplex.com:443/tfs/tfs30"; TfsConfigurationServer configurationServer = TfsConfigurationServerFactory.GetConfigurationServer(new Uri(_myUri)); Case 2: Connect by Uri, prompt for credentials string _myUri = @"https://tfs.codeplex.com:443/tfs/tfs30"; TfsConfigurationServer configurationServer = TfsConfigurationServerFactory.GetConfigurationServer(new Uri(_myUri), new UICredentialsProvider()); configurationServer.EnsureAuthenticated(); Case 3: Connect by Uri, custom credentials In order to use this method of connectivity you need to implement the interface ICredentailsProvider public class ConnectByImplementingCredentialsProvider : ICredentialsProvider { public ICredentials GetCredentials(Uri uri, ICredentials iCredentials) { return new NetworkCredential("UserName", "Password", "Domain"); } public void NotifyCredentialsAuthenticated(Uri uri) { throw new ApplicationException("Unable to authenticate"); } } And now consume the implementation of the interface, string _myUri = @"https://tfs.codeplex.com:443/tfs/tfs30"; ConnectByImplementingCredentialsProvider connect = new ConnectByImplementingCredentialsProvider(); ICredentials iCred = new NetworkCredential("UserName", "Password", "Domain"); connect.GetCredentials(new Uri(_myUri), iCred); TfsConfigurationServer configurationServer = TfsConfigurationServerFactory.GetConfigurationServer(new Uri(_myUri), connect); configurationServer.EnsureAuthenticated();   6. Programmatically query TFS 2010 using the TFS SDK for all Team Project Collections and retrieve all Team Projects and output the display name and description of each team project. CatalogNode catalogNode = configurationServer.CatalogNode; ReadOnlyCollection<CatalogNode> tpcNodes = catalogNode.QueryChildren( new Guid[] { CatalogResourceTypes.ProjectCollection }, false, CatalogQueryOptions.None); // tpc = Team Project Collection foreach (CatalogNode tpcNode in tpcNodes) { Guid tpcId = new Guid(tpcNode.Resource.Properties["InstanceId"]); TfsTeamProjectCollection tpc = configurationServer.GetTeamProjectCollection(tpcId); // Get catalog of tp = 'Team Projects' for the tpc = 'Team Project Collection' var tpNodes = tpcNode.QueryChildren( new Guid[] { CatalogResourceTypes.TeamProject }, false, CatalogQueryOptions.None); foreach (var p in tpNodes) { Debug.Write(Environment.NewLine + " Team Project : " + p.Resource.DisplayName + " - " + p.Resource.Description + Environment.NewLine); } }   Output   You can download a working demo that uses TFS SDK 2010 to programmatically connect to TFS 2010. • Request Limit Length Limits for IIS&rsquo;s requestFiltering Module

    - by Rick Strahl
    Today I updated my CodePaste.net site to MVC 3 and pushed an update to the site. The update of MVC went pretty smooth as well as most of the update process to the live site. Short of missing a web.config change in the /views folder that caused blank pages on the server, the process was relatively painless. However, one issue that kicked my ass for about an hour – and not foe the first time – was a problem with my OpenId authentication using DotNetOpenAuth. I tested the site operation fairly extensively locally and everything worked no problem, but on the server the OpenId returns resulted in a 404 response from IIS for a nice friendly OpenId return URL like this: http://codepaste.net/Account/OpenIdLogon?dnoa.userSuppliedIdentifier=http%3A%2F%2Frstrahl.myopenid.com%2F&dnoa.return_to_sig_handle=%7B634239223364590000%7D%7BjbHzkg%3D%3D%7D&dnoa.return_to_sig=7%2BcGhp7UUkcV2B8W29ibIDnZuoGoqzyS%2F%2FbF%2FhhYscgWzjg%2BB%2Fj10ZpNdBkUCu86dkTL6f4OK2zY5qHhCnJ2Dw%3D%3D&openid.assoc_handle=%7BHMAC-SHA256%7D%7B4cca49b2%7D%7BMVGByQ%3D%3D%7D&openid.claimed_id=http%3A%2F%2Frstrahl.myopenid.com%2F&openid.identity=http%3A%2F%2Frstrahl.myopenid.com%2F&openid.mode=id_res&openid.ns=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fauth%2F2.0&openid.ns.sreg=http%3A%2F%2Fopenid.net%2Fextensions%2Fsreg%2F1.1&openid.op_endpoint=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myopenid.com%2Fserver&openid.response_nonce=2010-10-29T04%3A12%3A53Zn5F4r5&openid.return_to=http%3A%2F%2Fcodepaste.net%2FAccount%2FOpenIdLogon%3Fdnoa.userSuppliedIdentifier%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Frstrahl.myopenid.com%252F%26dnoa.return_to_sig_handle%3D%257B634239223364590000%257D%257BjbHzkg%253D%253D%257D%26dnoa.return_to_sig%3D7%252BcGhp7UUkcV2B8W29ibIDnZuoGoqzyS%252F%252FbF%252FhhYscgWzjg%252BB%252Fj10ZpNdBkUCu86dkTL6f4OK2zY5qHhCnJ2Dw%253D%253D&openid.sig=h1GCSBTDAn1on98sLA6cti%2Bj1M6RffNerdVEI80mnYE%3D&openid.signed=assoc_handle%2Cclaimed_id%2Cidentity%2Cmode%2Cns%2Cns.sreg%2Cop_endpoint%2Cresponse_nonce%2Creturn_to%2Csigned%2Csreg.email%2Csreg.fullname&openid.sreg.email=rstrahl%40host.com&openid.sreg.fullname=Rick+Strahl A 404 of course isn’t terribly helpful – normally a 404 is a resource not found error, but the resource is definitely there. So how the heck do you figure out what’s wrong? If you’re just interested in the solution, here’s the short version: IIS by default allows only for a 1024 byte query string, which is obviously exceeded by the above. The setting is controlled by the RequestFiltering module in IIS 6 and later which can be configured in ApplicationHost.config (in \%windir\system32\inetsvr\config). To set the value configure the requestLimits key like so: <configuration> <security> <requestFiltering> <requestLimits maxQueryString="2048"> </requestLimits> </requestFiltering> </security> </configuration> This fixed me right up and made the requests work. How do you find out about problems like this? Ah yes the troubles of an administrator? Read on and I’ll take you through a quick review of how I tracked this down. Finding the Problem The issue with the error returned is that IIS returns a 404 Resource not found error and doesn’t provide much information about it. If you’re lucky enough to be able to run your site from the localhost IIS is actually very helpful and gives you the right information immediately in a nicely detailed error page. The bottom of the page actually describes exactly what needs to be fixed. One problem with this easy way to find an error: You HAVE TO run localhost. On my server which has about 10 domains running localhost doesn’t point at the particular site I had problems with so I didn’t get the luxury of this nice error page. Using Failed Request Tracing to retrieve Error Info The first place I go with IIS errors is to turn on Failed Request Tracing in IIS to get more error information. If you have access to the server to make a configuration change you can enable Failed Request Tracing like this: Find the Failed Request Tracing Rules in the IIS Service Manager.   Select the option and then Edit Site Tracing to enable tracing. Then add a rule for * (all content) and specify status codes from 100-999 to capture all errors. if you know exactly what error you’re looking for it might help to specify it exactly to keep the number of errors down. Then run your request and let it fail. IIS will throw error log files into a folder like this C:\inetpub\logs\FailedReqLogFiles\W3SVC5 where the last 5 is the instance ID of the site. These files are XML but they include an XSL stylesheet that provides some decent formatting. In this case it pointed me straight at the offending module:   Ok, it’s the RequestFilteringModule. Request Filtering is built into IIS 6-7 and configured in ApplicationHost.config. This module defines a few basic rules about what paths and extensions are allowed in requests and among other things how long a query string is allowed to be. Most of these settings are pretty sensible but the query string value can easily become a problem especially if you’re dealing with OpenId since these return URLs are quite extensive. Debugging failed requests is never fun, but IIS 6 and forward at least provides us the tools that can help us point in the right direction. The error message the FRT report isn’t as nice as the IIS error message but it at least points at the offending module which gave me the clue I needed to look at request restrictions in ApplicationHost.config. This would still be a stretch if you’re not intimately familiar, but I think with some Google searches it would be easy to track this down with a few tries… Hope this was useful to some of you. Useful to me to put this out as a reminder – I’ve run into this issue before myself and totally forgot. Next time I got it, right?© Rick Strahl, West Wind Technologies, 2005-2010Posted in ASP.NET  Security

    - by pinaldave
    Laerte Junior is my very dear friend and Powershell Expert. On my request he has agreed to share Powershell knowledge with us. Laerte Junior is a SQL Server MVP and, through his technology blog and simple-talk articles, an active member of the Microsoft community in Brasil. He is a skilled Principal Database Architect, Developer, and Administrator, specializing in SQL Server and Powershell Programming with over 8 years of hands-on experience. He holds a degree in Computer Science, has been awarded a number of certifications (including MCDBA), and is an expert in SQL Server 2000 / SQL Server 2005 / SQL Server 2008 technologies. Let us read the blog post in his own words. I was reading an excellent post from my great friend Pinal about loading data from CSV files, SQL SERVER – Importing CSV File Into Database – SQL in Sixty Seconds #018 – Video,   to SQL Server and was honored to write another guest post on SQL Authority about the magic of the PowerShell. The biggest stuff in TechEd NA this year was PowerShell. Fellows, if you still don’t know about it, it is better to run. Remember that The Core Servers to SQL Server are the future and consequently the Shell. You don’t want to be out of this, right? Let’s see some PowerShell Magic now. To start our tour, first we need to download these two functions from Powershell and SQL Server Master Jedi Chad Miller.Out-DataTable and Write-DataTable. Save it in a module and add it in your profile. In my case, the module is called functions.psm1. To have some data to play, I created 10 csv files with the same content. I just put the SQL Server Errorlog into a csv file and created 10 copies of it. #Just create a CSV with data to Import. Using SQLErrorLog [reflection.assembly]::LoadWithPartialName(“Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo”) $ServerInstance=new-object (“Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server“) $Env:Computername $ServerInstance.ReadErrorLog() | export-csv-path“c:\SQLAuthority\ErrorLog.csv”-NoTypeInformation for($Count=1;$Count-le 10;$count++)  {       Copy-Item“c:\SQLAuthority\Errorlog.csv”“c:\SQLAuthority\ErrorLog$($count).csv” } Now in my path c:\sqlauthority, I have 10 csv files : Now it is time to create a table. In my case, the SQL Server is called R2D2 and the Database is SQLServerRepository and the table is CSV_SQLAuthority. CREATE TABLE [dbo].[CSV_SQLAuthority]( [LogDate] [datetime] NULL, [Processinfo] [varchar](20) NULL, [Text] [varchar](MAX) NULL ) Let’s play a little bit. I want to import synchronously all csv files from the path to the table: #Importing synchronously $DataImport=Import-Csv-Path ( Get-ChildItem“c:\SQLAuthority\*.csv”) $DataTable=Out-DataTable-InputObject$DataImport Write-DataTable-ServerInstanceR2D2-DatabaseSQLServerRepository-TableNameCSV_SQLAuthority-Data$DataTable Very cool, right? Let’s do it asynchronously and in background using PowerShell  Jobs: #If you want to do it to all asynchronously Start-job-Name‘ImportingAsynchronously‘ ` -InitializationScript  {IpmoFunctions-Force-DisableNameChecking} ` -ScriptBlock {    ` $DataImport=Import-Csv-Path ( Get-ChildItem“c:\SQLAuthority\*.csv”) $DataTable=Out-DataTable-InputObject$DataImport Write-DataTable   -ServerInstance“R2D2″`                   -Database“SQLServerRepository“`                   -TableName“CSV_SQLAuthority“`                   -Data$DataTable             } Oh, but if I have csv files that are large in size and I want to import each one asynchronously. In this case, this is what should be done: Get-ChildItem“c:\SQLAuthority\*.csv” | % { Start-job-Name“$($_)” ` -InitializationScript  {IpmoFunctions-Force-DisableNameChecking} ` -ScriptBlock { $DataImport=Import-Csv-Path$args[0]                $DataTable=Out-DataTable-InputObject$DataImport                Write-DataTable-ServerInstance“R2D2″`                               -Database“SQLServerRepository“`                               -TableName“CSV_SQLAuthority“`                               -Data$DataTable             } -ArgumentList$_.fullname } How cool is that? Let’s make the funny stuff now. Let’s schedule it on an SQL Server Agent Job. If you are using SQL Server 2012, you can use the PowerShell Job Step. Otherwise you need to use a CMDexec job step calling PowerShell.exe. We will use the second option. First, create a ps1 file called ImportCSV.ps1 with the script above and save it in a path. In my case, it is in c:\temp\automation. Just add the line at the end: Get-ChildItem“c:\SQLAuthority\*.csv” | % { Start-job-Name“$($_)” ` -InitializationScript  {IpmoFunctions-Force-DisableNameChecking} ` -ScriptBlock { $DataImport=Import-Csv-Path$args[0]                $DataTable=Out-DataTable-InputObject$DataImport                Write-DataTable-ServerInstance“R2D2″`                               -Database“SQLServerRepository“`                               -TableName“CSV_SQLAuthority“`                               -Data$DataTable             } -ArgumentList$_.fullname } Get-Job | Wait-Job | Out-Null Remove-Job -State Completed Why? See my post Dooh PowerShell Trick–Running Scripts That has Posh Jobs on a SQL Agent Job Remember, this trick is for  ALL scripts that will use PowerShell Jobs and any kind of schedule tool (SQL Server agent, Windows Schedule) Create a Job Called ImportCSV and a step called Step_ImportCSV and choose CMDexec. Then you just need to schedule or run it. I did a short video (with matching good background music) and you can see it at: That’s it guys. C’mon, join me in the #PowerShellLifeStyle. • ASP.NET Web Forms Extensibility: Control Adapters

    - by Ricardo Peres
    All ASP.NET controls from version 2.0 can be associated with a control adapter. A control adapter is a class that inherits from ControlAdapter and it has the chance to interact with the control(s) it is targeting so as to change some of its properties or alter its output. I talked about control adapters before and they really a cool feature. The ControlAdapter class exposes virtual methods for some well known lifecycle events, OnInit, OnLoad, OnPreRender and OnUnload that closely match their Control counterparts, but are fired before them. Because the control adapter has a reference to its target Control, it can cast it to its concrete class and do something with it before its lifecycle events are actually fired. The adapter is also notified before the control is rendered (BeginRender), after their children are renderes (RenderChildren) and after itself is rendered (Render): this way the adapter can modify the control’s output. Control adapters may be specified for any class inheriting from Control, including abstract classes, web server controls and even pages. You can, for example, specify a control adapter for the WebControl and UserControl classes, but, curiously, not for Control itself. When specifying a control adapter for a page, it must inherit from PageAdapter instead of ControlAdapter. The adapter for a control, if specified, can be found on the protected Adapter property, and for a page, on the PageAdapter property. The first use of control adapters that came to my attention was for changing the output of standard ASP.NET web controls so that they were more based on CSS and less on HTML tables: it was the CSS Friendly Control Adapters project, now available at http://code.google.com/p/aspnetcontroladapters/. They are interesting because you specify them in one location and they apply anywhere a control of the target type is created. Mind you, it applies to controls declared on markup as well as controls created by code with the new operator. So, how do you use control adapters? The most usual way is through a browser definition file. In it, you specify a set of control adapters and their target controls, for a given browser. This browser definition file is a XML file with extension .Browser, and can either be global (%WINDIR%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\vXXXX\Config\Browsers) or local to the web application, in which case, it must be placed inside the App_Browsers folder at the root of the web site. It looks like this: 1: <browsers> 2: <browser refID="Default"> 3: <controlAdapters> 4: <adapter controlType="System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox" adapterType="MyNamespace.TextBoxAdapter, MyAssembly" /> 5: </controlAdapters> 6: </browser> 7: </browsers> A browser definition file targets a specific browser, so you can have different definitions for Chrome, IE, Firefox, Opera, as well as for specific version of each of those (like IE8, Firefox3). Alternatively, if you set the target to Default, it will apply to all. The reason to pick a specific browser and version might be, for example, in order to circumvent some limitation present in that specific version, so that on markup you don’t need to be concerned with that. Another option is through the the current Browser object of the request: 1: this.Context.Request.Browser.Adapters.Add(typeof(TextBox).FullName, typeof(TextBoxAdapter).FullName); This must go very early on the page lifecycle, for example, on the OnPreInit event, or even on Application_Start. You have to specify the full class name for both the target control and the adapter. Of course, you have to do this for every request, because it won’t be persisted. As an example, you may know that the classic TextBox control renders an HTML input tag if its TextMode is set to SingleLine and a textarea if set to MultiLine. Because the textarea has no notion of maximum length, unlike the input, something must be done in order to enforce this. Here’s a simple suggestion: 1: public class TextBoxControlAdapter : ControlAdapter 2: { 3: protected TextBox Target 4: { 5: get 6: { 7: return (this.Control as TextBox); 8: } 9: } 10:  11: protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e) 12: { 13: if ((this.Target.MaxLength > 0) && (this.Target.TextMode == TextBoxMode.MultiLine)) 14: { 15: if (this.Target.Page.ClientScript.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered("TextBox_KeyUp") == false) 16: { 17: if (this.Target.Page.ClientScript.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered(this.Target.Page.GetType(), "TextBox_KeyUp") == false) 18: { 19: String script = String.Concat("function TextBox_KeyUp(sender) { if (sender.value.length > ", this.Target.MaxLength, ") { sender.value = sender.value.substr(0, ", this.Target.MaxLength, "); } }\n"); 20:  21: this.Target.Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this.Target.Page.GetType(), "TextBox_KeyUp", script, true); 22: } 23:  24: this.Target.Attributes["onkeyup"] = "TextBox_KeyUp(this)"; 25: } 26: } 27: 28: base.OnLoad(e); 29: } 30: } What it does is, for every TextBox control, if it is set for multi line and has a defined maximum length, it injects some JavaScript that will filter out any content that exceeds this maximum length. This will occur for any TextBox that you may have on your site, or any class that inherits from it. You can use any of the previous options to register this adapter. Stay tuned for more ASP.NET Web Forms extensibility tips!

  • How can I load style resources from a dynamically loaded Silverlight application (XAP)?

    - by Tom
    I've followed Tim Heuer's video for dynamically loading other XAP's (into a 'master' Silverlight application), as well as some other links to tweak the loading of resources and am stuck on the particular issue of loading style resources from within the dynamically loaded XAP (i.e. the contents of Assets\Styles.xaml). When I run the master/hosting applcation, it successfully streams the dynamic XAP and I can read the deployment info etc. and load the assembly parts. However, when I actuall try to create an instance of a form from the Dynamic XAP, it fails with Cannot find a Resource with the Name/Key LayoutRootGridStyle which is in it's Assets\Styles.xaml file (it works if I run it directly so I know it's OK). For some reason these don't show up as application resources - not sure if I've totally got the wrong end of the stick, or am just missing something? Code snippet below (apologies it's a bit messy - just trying to get it working first) ... '' # Here's the code that reads the dynamic XAP from the web server ... '' #... wCli = New WebClient AddHandler wCli.OpenReadCompleted, AddressOf OpenXAPCompleted wCli.OpenReadAsync(New Uri("MyTest.xap", UriKind.Relative)) '' #... '' #Here's the sub that's called when openread is completed '' #... Private Sub OpenXAPCompleted(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Net.OpenReadCompletedEventArgs) Dim sManifest As String = New StreamReader(Application.GetResourceStream(New StreamResourceInfo(e.Result, Nothing), New Uri("AppManifest.xaml", UriKind.Relative)).Stream).ReadToEnd Dim deploymentRoot As XElement = XDocument.Parse(sManifest).Root Dim deploymentParts As List(Of XElement) = _ (From assemblyParts In deploymentRoot.Elements().Elements() Select assemblyParts).ToList() Dim oAssembly As Assembly = Nothing For Each xElement As XElement In deploymentParts Dim asmPart As AssemblyPart = New AssemblyPart() Dim source As String = xElement.Attribute("Source").Value Dim sInfo As StreamResourceInfo = Application.GetResourceStream(New StreamResourceInfo(e.Result, "application/binary"), New Uri(source, UriKind.Relative)) If source = "MyTest.dll" Then oAssembly = asmPart.Load(sInfo.Stream) Else asmPart.Load(sInfo.Stream) End If Next Dim t As Type() = oAssembly.GetTypes() Dim AppClass = (From parts In t Where parts.FullName.EndsWith(".App") Select parts).SingleOrDefault() Dim mykeys As Array If Not AppClass Is Nothing Then Dim a As Application = DirectCast(oAssembly.CreateInstance(AppClass.FullName), Application) For Each strKey As String In a.Resources.Keys If Not Application.Current.Resources.Contains(strKey) Then Application.Current.Resources.Add(strKey, a.Resources(strKey)) End If Next End If Dim objectType As Type = oAssembly.GetType("MyTest.MainPage") Dim ouiel = Activator.CreateInstance(objectType) Dim myData As UIElement = DirectCast(ouiel, UIElement) Me.splMain.Children.Add(myData) Me.splMain.UpdateLayout() End Sub '' #... '' # And here's the line that fails with "Cannot find a Resource with the Name/Key LayoutRootGridStyle" '' # ... System.Windows.Application.LoadComponent(Me, New System.Uri("/MyTest;component/MainPage.xaml", System.UriKind.Relative)) '' #... any thoughts?

  • System.IO.IOException: file used by another process

    - by Srodriguez
    Dear all, I've been working in this small piece of code that seems trivial but still i cannot really see where is the problem. My functions does a pretty simple thing. Opens a file, copy its contents, replace a string inside and copy it back to the original file (a simple search and replace inside a text file then). I didn't really know how to do that as I'm adding lines to the original file, so i just create a copy of the file, (file.temp) copy also a backup (file.temp) then delete the original file(file) and copy the file.temp to file. I get an exception while doing the delete of the file. Here is the sample code: private static bool modifyFile(FileInfo file, string extractedMethod, string modifiedMethod) { Boolean result = false; FileStream fs = new FileStream(file.FullName + ".tmp", FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write); StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(fs); StreamReader streamreader = file.OpenText(); String originalPath = file.FullName; string input = streamreader.ReadToEnd(); Console.WriteLine("input : {0}", input); String tempString = input.Replace(extractedMethod, modifiedMethod); Console.WriteLine("replaced String {0}", tempString); try { sw.Write(tempString); sw.Flush(); sw.Close(); sw.Dispose(); fs.Close(); fs.Dispose(); streamreader.Close(); streamreader.Dispose(); File.Copy(originalPath, originalPath + ".old", true); FileInfo newFile = new FileInfo(originalPath + ".tmp"); File.Delete(originalPath); File.Copy(fs., originalPath, true); result = true; } catch (Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex); } return result; }` And the related exception System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file 'E:\mypath\myFile.cs' because it is being used by another process. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.File.Delete(String path) at callingMethod.modifyFile(FileInfo file, String extractedMethod, String modifiedMethod) Normally these errors come from unclosed file streams, but I've taken care of that. I guess I've forgotten an important step but cannot figure out where. Thank you very much for your help,

  • Code Complete 2ed, composition and delegation.

    - by Arlukin
    Hi there. After a couple of weeks reading on this forum I thought it was time for me to do my first post. I'm currently rereading Code Complete. I think it's 15 years since the last time, and I find that I still can't write code ;-) Anyway on page 138 in Code Complete you find this coding horror example. (I have removed some of the code) class Emplyee { public: FullName GetName() const; Address GetAddress() const; PhoneNumber GetWorkPhone() const; ... bool IsZipCodeValid( Address address); ... private: ... } What Steve thinks is bad is that the functions are loosely related. Or has he writes "There's no logical connection between employees and routines that check ZIP codes, phone numbers or job classifications" Ok I totally agree with him. Maybe something like the below example is better. class ZipCode { public: bool IsValid() const; ... } class Address { public: ZipCode GetZipCode() const; ... } class Employee { public: Address GetAddress() const; ... } When checking if the zip is valid you would need to do something like this. employee.GetAddress().GetZipCode().IsValid(); And that is not good regarding to the Law of Demeter ([http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Demeter][1]). So if you like to remove two of the three dots, you need to use delegation and a couple of wrapper functions like this. class ZipCode { public: bool IsValid(); } class Address { public: ZipCode GetZipCode() const; bool IsZipCodeValid() {return GetZipCode()->IsValid()); } class Employee { public: FullName GetName() const; Address GetAddress() const; bool IsZipCodeValid() {return GetAddress()->IsZipCodeValid()); PhoneNumber GetWorkPhone() const; } employee.IsZipCodeValid(); But then again you have routines that has no logical connection. I personally think that all three examples in this post are bad. Is it some other way that I haven't thougt about? //Daniel

  • WinForms/Console application on Mono, how to know it runs as root

    - by Lex Li-MSFT
    As we can execute such executables in two ways, such as "sudo mono test.exe", and "mono test.exe". Now I want to know how to detect whether this application is running as root inside the application itself. I tried to check user name like below and see whether they equal to "root", Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name Process.GetCurrentProcess().StartInfo.UserName AppDomain.CurrentDomain.ApplicationIdentity.FullName The first two are empty strings always, while the third throws NullReferenceException. Please advise if this is doable on Mono 2.6.
