  • What is the best method for updating all changed data in EF 4?

  • Create Session Variable from different datasources?

    Currently I am developing a dynamic website using Dreamweaver cs5 with ColdFusion 9 and using Access to create my databases along with QuickBooks and QODBC to create database. I have established a login session variable stemming from the login page. This session variable is being drawn from one Datasource "Access" Table "Logininfo" Field "FullName" but I wanted to create another session variable either at this point or further into the member's page to use in a query sequence. This session variable would stem from another Datasoucre "QBs" Table "Invoice" Field "CustomerRefFullName" which is generated through Quickbooks and QODBC. I am not sure if this is possible but if it is how do I do it. I want to do this so I can query the Invoice database to upload the customer's Invoices unique to them onto their page. So it would have to be related to their login credentials. If there is another better route to take I would greatly appreciate the advice. Below is the login code if there is additional information needed let me know. This is my current thinking/plan to do what I wish to intend hence the need to create the session variable: I have another Datasource "QBs" with a Table "Invoice" when I create another webpage for the customer to see their invoice I need to create a recordset that accesses that Table. In order to do so I think the best way would some home convert the session.FullName (which came from Access Datasource, Logininfor Table) into a session.CustomerRefFullName (which would have to come from (Datasource: QBs Table: Invoice Field: CustomerRefFullName) that way I could set the query WHERE CustomerRefFullName and have each logged in user see their specific Invoices.     I'm making a game in pygame and on the first screen I want there to be buttons that you can press to (i) start the game, (ii) load a new screen with instructions, and (iii) exit the program. I've found this code online for button making, but I don't really understand it (I'm not that good at object oriented programming). If I could get some explanation as to what it's doing that would be great.     Background I am currently logging deletion of rows from my tickets table at the application level. When a user deletes a ticket the following SQL is executed: INSERT INTO alert_log (user_id, priority, priorityName, timestamp, message) VALUES (9, 4, 'WARN', NOW(), "TICKET: David A. deleted ticket #6 from Foo"); Please do not offer schema suggestions for the alert_log table. Fields: user_id - User id of the logged in user performing the deletion priority - Always 4 priorityName - Always 'WARN' timestamp - Always NOW() message - Format: "[NAMESPACE]: [FullName] deleted ticket #[TicketId] from [CompanyName]" NAMESPACE - Always TICKET FullName - Full name of user identified by user_id above TicketId - Primary key ID of the ticket being deleted CompanyName - Ticket has a Company via tickets.company_id Situation/Questions Obviously this solution does not work if a ticket is deleted manually from the mysql command line client. However, now I need to. The issues I'm having are as follows: Should I use a PROCEDURE, FUNCTION, or TRIGGER? -- Analysis: TRIGGER - I don't think this will work because I can't pass parameters to it, and it would trigger when my application deleted the row too. PROCEDURE or FUNCTION - Not sure. Should I return the number of deleted rows? If so, that would require a FUNCTION right? How should I account for the absence of a logged in user? -- Possibilities: Using either a PROC or FUNC, require the invoker to pass in a valid user_id Require the user to pass in a string with the name Use the CURRENT_USER - meh Hard code the FullName to just be "Database Administrator" Could the name be an optional parameter? I'm rather green when it comes to sprocs. Assuming I went with the PROC/FUNC approach, is it possible to outright restrict regular DELETE calls to this table, yet still allow users to call this PROC/FUNC to do the deletion for them? Ideally the solution is usable by my application as well, so that my code is DRY.

  • Pass quoted argument string to Start-Process in PowerShell

    Hello I'm trying to very simply run an executable and pass a file path in as the first argument. In DOS, this would be the command: import.exe "C:\Some Path\With\Spaces.txt" By placing the path in quotes, the path is correctly parsed as the first token into the executable. In PowerShell I'm using this: $feeds = dir 'T:\Documents\Company\Product Development\Data foreach ($feed in $feeds) { start -FilePath import.exe -ArgumentList $feed.FullName } The problem with the Start-Process cmdlet in PowerShell is that it uses a string array for arguments, so the path is broken up and sent to the executable as separate tokens. Quotes in PowerShell force $feed.FullName to be treated literally. Double quotes "" make PowerShell not see anything in the argument list. "The argument is null or empty." it tells me. I expect that this is a known headache and has had a known workaround from day one. Thanks Luke

How is this possible if $backups is empty?

I've tried: Protecting the foreach with if (!$backups) Protecting the Remove-Item with if (Test-Path $file -PathType Leaf) Protecting the Remove-Item with if ([IO.File]::Exists($file.FullName) -ne $true) None of these seem to work, what if the recommended way of preventing a foreach loop from being entered if the list is empty?

  • InvalidCastException when creating an instance using assembly.CreateInstance

    I'm looking for an explanation for the following - I have an assembly I'm loading using Assembly assembly = Assembly.LoadFrom(filename); I then loop on all the types in the assembly, and wish to try and find out if a type implements a particular interface and if so I want an instance of that type, I've tried several things which did not work, but when I fell back to the most basic (and probably inefficient) way, I realised there's something more fundamental I don't understand - foreach (Type t in assembly.GetTypes()) { foreach (Type i in t.GetInterfaces()) { if (i.FullName == pluginInterfaceType.FullName) { object o = assembly.CreateInstance(t.ToString()); IInterface plugin = (IInterface)o; That last line causes an InvalidCastException, despite the fact that the type created definitely implements that interface. Further more - if I use Activator.CreateInstance instead of Assembly.CreateInstance (which I don't want to do), casting to the interface works just fine.

    I needed to filter a list of results using the combination of two properties. A plain SQL statement would look like this: SELECT TOP 10 * FROM Person WHERE FirstName + ' ' + LastName LIKE '%' + @Term + '%' The ICriteria in NHibernate that I ended up using was: ICriteria criteria = Session.CreateCriteria(typeof(Person)); criteria.Add(Expression.Sql( "FirstName + ' ' + LastName LIKE ?", "%" + term + "%", NHibernateUtil.String)); criteria.SetMaxResults(10); It works perfectly, but I'm not sure if it is the ideal solution since I'm still learning about NHibernate's Criteria API. What are the recommended alternatives? Is there something besides Expression.Sql that would perform the same operation? I tried Expression.Like but couldn't figure out how to combine the first and last names. Should I map a FullName property to the formula "FirstName + ' ' + LastName" in the mapping class? Should I create a read only FullName property on the domain object then map it to a column?

    Basically i've got a web service that i'm trying to put some kind of usage logging in. To do this i've created a class with a logging method. I instatiate the class on the service and then call the logging method in each of the web methods. I'm trying to find a way of getting the name of the method that has called the loggong method Public sub tstmethod log_object.log_method end sub in this case the returned name i'm looking for is "tstmethod" Everywhere i've seen has said to either use Dim stackframe As New Diagnostics.StackFrame Return stackframe.GetMethod.Name.ToString Or to use Dim stackframe As New Diagnostics.StackFrame Return stackframe.GetMethod.DeclaringType.FullName which i call inside the logging method getmethod.name.tostring returns the name of the logging method getmethod.declaringtype.fullname returns the name of the logging class no matter what i do i cannot find a way of getting the name of the method that called the logging method in this case "tstmethod"

Is there an easy way that I can pass in string members of a list of objects? I mean, if for example, I have a list of Person objects which expose a string property called FullName, is there a quick way to stuff the FullNames of all the Person objects into the method parameter, or do I have to create a new List and iterate through the Person objects: List<string> fullNames = new List<string>; foreach (Person person in people) { fullNames.Add(person.FullName); } JiggleMyList(fullNames); I come across this all the time, and it would be nice if there was a shortcut.     Is there a way to query against a concatenated field using MS SQL? For instance, what I want to do is something like: Select FirstName+' '+LastName as FullName from Attendees where FullName like '%Joe Schmoe%' The above doesn't work. What I have found works is: Select * from Attendee where FirstName+' '+LastName like '%Joe Schmoe%' but I can't figure out how to do that using a SubSonic SqlQuery. I have a number of joins and OR statements added dynamically that I don't want to have to write out the sql manually. Any help/ideas?

  • Possible Encoding Issue Reading HTM File using .Net Streamreader

    I have an HTML file with a ® (copyright) and ™ (trademark) symbol in the text. These are just two among many other symbols. When I read the html file into a literal control it converts the symbols to something else. The copyright symbol converts to ? (open box in ff) The trademark symbol converts to ™ (as expected) If (System.IO.File.Exists(FullName)) Then Dim StreamReader1 As New System.IO.StreamReader(FullName) Contents.Text = StreamReader1.ReadToEnd() StreamReader1.Close() End If Contents is a <asp:Literal runat="server" ID="Contents"></asp:Literal> and it's the only control in the aspx page. From some research I think this is related to the encoding but I don't know why it would change how to fix it. The html file does not contain any Content-Type settings in the head section.

What is the difference in both approaches? When should I favor the one approach over the other? EDIT: At the surface I know that there are differences between both mechanisms, but if someone jumped out of a bush and asked me the question I couldn't give him a proper answer. The questions are quite open questions. I hoped that someone can explain it better than I could do.

I have a table in MS Sql Server with structure shown below: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[someTable]( [id] [int] NOT NULL, [pname] [nvarchar](20) NULL, [FullName] [nvarchar](50) NULL, [age] [int] NULL) and I there are 2 Ms Sql tables (I've created), sysTables and sysColumns. sysTables: ID sysTableName TableName TableDescription 1 | someTable |Persons |All Data about Persons in system sysColumns: ID TableName sysColumnName ColumnName ColumnDesc ColumnType MUnit 1 |someTable | sometable_pname| Name | Persona Name(ex. John)| nvarchar(20) | null 2 |someTable | sometable_Fullname| Full Name | Persona Name(ex. John Black)| nvarchar(50) | null 3 |someTable | sometable_age| age | Person age| int | null I want that, in Details/Edit/Insert/List/ListDetails pages use as MetaData sysColumns and sysTableData. Because, for ex. in DetailsPage fullName, it is not beatiful as Full Name . someIdea, is it possible? thanks

    Hi, I am attempting to create a dynamic where clause using the standard expression API. var query = ( from p in Parties orderby p.PartyId orderby p.FullName select p ).AsQueryable(); Expression<Func<Party, bool>> @fn = (p) => SqlMethods.Like(p.FullName, "%smith%") || SqlMethods.Like(p.Person.FirstName, "%smith%"); Expression<Func<Party, bool>> @sn = (p) => SqlMethods.Like(p.Person.FirstName, words[0]); ParameterExpression pe = Expression.Parameter(typeof(Party), "p"); Expression orelse = Expression.OrElse( Expression.Lambda(@fn, pe), Expression.Lambda(@sn, pe) ); The expressions above will ultimately be added to a where clause. I need to add a bunch of 'likes'. How do I do this? I get InvalidOperationException on the operator OrElse I have also tried Expression.Or Thanks Regards Craig.

    I am looking for a way to introspect SQLAlchemy ORM classes/entities to determine the types and other constraints (like maximum lengths) of an entity's properties. For example, if I have a declarative class: class User(Base): __tablename__ = "USER_TABLE" id = sa.Column(sa.types.Integer, primary_key=True) fullname = sa.Column(sa.types.String(100)) username = sa.Column(sa.types.String(20), nullable=False) password = sa.Column(sa.types.String(20), nullable=False) created_timestamp = sa.Column(sa.types.DateTime, nullable=False) I would want to be able to find out that the 'fullname' field should be a String with a maximum length of 100, and is nullable. And the 'created_timestamp' field is a DateTime and is not nullable.
