• Elementary OS boots to a terminal (other OS) [on hold]

  Im new to this site, please forgive me if I missed some posting protocol of some sort. I am attempting to install Luna on my samsung s2 laptop (a8 amd radeon 7640g) and when I click on try luna, it just pulls up a terminal after the insignia (curvy E). When I install it, same issue. • HP to Cisco spanning tree root flapping

  Per a recent question I recently configured both my HP (2x 2900) and Cisco (1x 3750) hardware to use MSTP for interoperability. I thought this was functional until I applied the change to the third device (HP switch 1 below) at which time the spanning tree root started flapping causing performance issues (5% packet loss) between my two HP switches. I'm not sure why. HP Switch 1 A4 connected to Cisco 1/0/1. HP Switch 2 B2 connected to Cisco 2/0/1. HP Switch 1 A2 connected to HP Switch 2 A1. I'd prefer the Cisco stack to act as the root. EDIT: There is one specific line - 'spanning-tree 1 path-cost 500000' in the HP switch 2 that I didn't add and was preexisting. I'm not sure if it could have the kind of impact that I'm describing. I'm more a security and monitoring guy then networking. EDIT 2: I'm starting to believe the problem lies in the fact that the value for my MST 0 instance on the Cisco is still at the default 32768. I worked up a diagram: This is based on every show command I could find for STP. I'll make this change after hours and see if it helps.   Hey all, I am trying to use the date command in Terminal on multiple Mac OS X machines that are synced via NTP to synchronize some code in a program. Essentially I am running a program... MyProgram with arguments[date] I can get date to give me the seconds since the Unix epoch with the %M specifier. When I try to use %N to get nanosecond resolution, date just returns N. Is there anyway to get date to give me finer then second resolution? I wouldn't even mind passing two arguments such as (date +%M):arg2 And then converting units in the program. • How can I (reasonably) precisely perform an action every N milliseconds?

  I have a machine which uses an NTP client to sync up to internet time so it's system clock should be fairly accurate. I've got an application which I'm developing which logs data in real time, processes it and then passes it on. What I'd like to do now is output that data every N milliseconds aligned with the system clock. So for example if I wanted to do 20ms intervals, my oututs ought to be something like this: 13:15:05:0000 13:15:05:0020 13:15:05:0040 13:15:05:0060 I've seen suggestions for using the stopwatch class, but that only measures time spans as opposed to looking for specific time stamps. The code to do this is running in it's own thread, so should be a problem if I need to do some relatively blocking calls. Any suggestions on how to achieve this to a reasonable (close to or better than 1ms precision would be nice) would be very gratefully received.

• Windows CE 6.0 time setting in registry being overrided

  I have asked this question on stack overflow but its probably better suited here. So I have a Motorola MC3190 Mobile Barcode scanning device with Windows CE 6.0. Now I want to get the device to sync its date/time on boot up with our domain controller using a registry file that I have created. I have used this registry file below to get close to what I require.   Hi There, I've been wracking my brains trying to get Windows 7 authenticating against a MIT Kerberos 5 Realm (which is running on an Arch Linux server). I've done the following on the server (aka dc1): Installed and configured a NTP time server Installed and configured DHCP and DNS (setup for the domain tnet.loc) Installed Kerberos from source Setup the database Configured the keytab Setup the ACL file with: *@TNET.LOC * Added a policy for my user and my machine: addpol users addpol admin addpol hosts ank -policy users [email protected] ank -policy admin tom/[email protected] ank -policy hosts host/wdesk3.tnet.loc -pw MYPASSWORDHERE I then did the following to the windows 7 client (aka wdesk3): Made sure the ip address was supplied by my DHCP server and dc1.tnet.loc pings ok Set the internet time server to my linux server (aka dc1.tnet.loc) Used ksetup to configure the realm: ksetup /SetRealm TNET.LOC ksetup /AddKdc dc1.tnet.loc ksetip /SetComputerPassword MYPASSWORDHERE ksetip /MapUser * * After some googl-ing I found that DES encryption was disabled by Windows 7 by default and I turned the policy on to support DES encryption over Kerberos Then I rebooted the windows client However after doing all that I still cannot login from my Windows client. :( Looking at the logs on the server; the request looks fine and everything works great, I think the issue is that the response from the KDC is not recognized by the Windows Client and a generic login error appears: "Login Failure: User name or password is invalid". • how to cause linux system datetime to run faster than real world datetime?

  Background I want to monitor a running linux system over several days. It's a custom gentoo build and with much custom software on board. This software has ongoing maintenance timers and cron scripts and other clock driven events. I need to verify these scheduled events are working. Problem Waiting for the system to step through daily and weekly activity is a long wait time. And modifying all clock-based timers on the system would be time consuming. Yet, I often want to test a system's end-to-end scheduled activities without waiting a week. Potential Solution Have the linux system under test appear to run through it's daily cycle of activity within just a few hours. My Question for Serverfault Is there a way to cause the system's time to run faster than real world time? My first thought is manipulating the ntp daemon to repeatedly and smoothly increment the clock . Any other ideas? And yes, I know this may have strange side affects. However, the system has no important or time critical interactions with systems outside of itself. And this may be a valuable testing technique.

  to clear the air centos 6.4? (maybe 6.3) as the server, running samba 4.0.10, trying to add a windows 7 client that has connectivity to the server. this is what windows shouts as me as it mocks my dependence on network infrastructure. "the network location cannot be reached." i have access to the domain contoller (dc) im using the dc as the domain name server (dns) already, and the name is correctly resolving, and it is correctly forwarding outbound traffic. i have nothing but self taught experience with active directory(ad) so if i am missing something obvious, please shout it out, but keep the verbal abuse to a minimum. i checked samba4DC + my error and found nothing relevant to my issue, if i missed something please point me in that direction. the weekend is just starting as i write this so i probably wont be back on to check this post for a day or three, but i might because this mystery is killing me. i followed the samba4 as a dc guide here and i supplimented gaps with this i have tested kerberos, ntp, and set my DC as the clock to sync to in my windows client and it appears to be a very small fraction of a second off so that shouldn't be it. also, firewall and selinux are both off for testing. i have also tried disabling ipv6, and cleared the registry of ipv6 records (allegedly the default samba4 as a DC runs as windows server 2003 which allegedly does not support or tolerate the existence of ipv6, fair warning, i heard this on the internet so it is probably a lie) i have tried a few other things that i have forgotten because i have been doing this for a day and a half now. ideas welcome. suggestions for alternatives are also welcome, as long as they are free. i was given a budget of $0 dollars and told to implement active directory (no prior knowledge of active directory at that point).

  I'll try to keep this short, but informative. I'm currently unable to bind OSX lion (10.7.4) machines to our AD. OSX kerberos (heimdal) is unable to locate the KDC service. However i can bind linux & windows machines to the AD without any problems in the same network AD controls the domain DNS and all the relevant _kerberos._tcp.x.domain.com and _kpasswd SRV DNS records are there and resolve fine when tried from OSX machines. Defined ports are open for service and manually accessible from OSX. When i try kinit in the OSX, i can get the first auth through (wrong passwords fail instantly), but when supplied with correct password, kinit fails after some waiting with "unable to reach KDC". All machines run NTP and have correct time. During testing, network is not firewalled between the machines Linux and windows machines have no problems whatsoever I have tried with and without /etc/krb5.conf - OSX by default does not need it in the krb5.conf i used a working config from one of our linux machines. dsconfigad fails with simple "connection failed to the directory server" I'm a bit baffled with this. OSX is like the KDC is nowhere to be found and at the same time my test machines with windows 7 and some linux (centos 6 & debian 6) machines have no problems whatsoever. Same network, same configurations. I'm missing some vital piece of configuration somewhere, and i can't find out what it is.

The output of line 3 was mysterious. I don't know how it comes from Java VM. • Configuring https access on HP A5120 Switch

  I am trying to configure HTTPS management on a HP a5120 switch running Version 5.20.99, Release 2215 and not having much luck. I have followed the manual by creating an SSL policy first and then enabling the HTTPS server with the SSL policy: ssl server-policy sslpol ip https ssl-server-policy sslpol ip https enable When I try and log onto the switch with Google Chrome I get the following error: Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error. When I look this up I have found references to errors due to TLS being used in SSL. I can find no way to specify the SSL version in the server policy. The manual has a configuration example that uses MSCEP to retrieve a certificate but in Windows 2008 R2 that feature is only available in Enterprise and Datacentre editions which I don't have. I have SSH configured and it is using a locally generated certificate so I'm not sure if I can use that but I'd like to if possible. Has anybody been able to setup HTTPS management on HP A series switches without MSCEP? • Extremely high mysqld CPU usage with no active queries

  I have a VPS running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with LEMP stack, followed the guide from Linode Library (since I'm using a Linode) to setup, and everything worked fine until now. I don't know what's wrong, but my CPU usage just goes up since a week ago. Today things getting really bad - I got 74% CPU usage so I went check and found that mysqld taking too much CPU usage (somewhere around 30% ~ 80%) So I did some Google Search, tried disable InnoDB, restart mysql, reset ntp / system clock (Isn't this bug supposed to happen more than a year ago?!) and reboot my VPS, nothing helped. Even with mysql processlist empty, I still get mysqld CPU usage very high. I don't know what I missed and have totally no idea, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. • Unable to ssh in Beagle Bone Black

  I wanted to install pip onto beagle bone black,and I tried this: /usr/bin/ntpdate -b -s -u pool.ntp.org opkg update && opkg install python-pip python-setuptools then, it threw errors,but Unfortunately, I didn't log that errors. it was occurred a week ago and was't solved yet. I wanted to solve it now and I tried connect by ssh,but I failed. When I ping to beagle bone, it responds, and Cloud9 IDE is working too but not ssh. I don't think this is serious problem since I can connect to beagle bone by other methods: Cloud9 or so. However, to use python on beagle bone, I need to connect by ssh. Before trying to update and install python-pip, I could connect by ssh. Do you have any ideas to solve this connection problem? note I use default OS: Angstrom I don't use SD card. HOST PC is mac, OS.X 10.9 connect by USB serial I checked this but this wasn't helpful http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19233516/cannot-connect-to-beagle-bone-black I could connect by GateOne SSH client, but still unable to connect from terminal.

• How can I ensure that my static ip address is read from /etc/network/interfaces rather than dhcp?

  This is a follow up to the following question. I'm trying to set a static IP by changing /etc/network/interfaces to the following: # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.2.133 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.2.1 dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8 and then running /sbin/ifdown eth0; /sbin/ifup eth0. However, the change in IP address doesn't appear to take effect without editing /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf and commenting out the following before running ifdown; ifup: request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers, domain-name, domain-name-servers, domain-search, host-name, dhcp6.name-servers, dhcp6.domain-search, netbios-name-servers, netbios-scope, interface-mtu, rfc3442-classless-static-routes, ntp-servers, dhcp6.fqdn, dhcp6.sntp-servers; Strangely, after commenting out this line, running ifdown; ifup works, but when I uncomment it, the behavior does not revert to the previous behavior of ignoring changes to my settings in /etc/network/interfaces (this doesn't seem like a problem, but I really need to be able to repeat this problem so that I can be confident that my solution is robust) Also, I'd rather not have to edit /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf to change my static IP since it seems I should be able to do this by only editing interfaces. Can anyone explain the issues I'm seeing above and suggest the best way of making changes to static IP addresses take effect that admits reproducibility so that I can be sure that my approach works?

• Authenticating Windows 7 against MIT Kerberos 5

  Hi There, I've been wracking my brains trying to get Windows 7 authenticating against a MIT Kerberos 5 Realm (which is running on an Arch Linux server). I've done the following on the server (aka dc1): Installed and configured a NTP time server Installed and configured DHCP and DNS (setup for the domain tnet.loc) Installed Kerberos from source Setup the database Configured the keytab Setup the ACL file with: *@TNET.LOC * Added a policy for my user and my machine: addpol users addpol admin addpol hosts ank -policy users [email protected] ank -policy admin tom/[email protected] ank -policy hosts host/wdesk3.tnet.loc -pw MYPASSWORDHERE I then did the following to the windows 7 client (aka wdesk3): Made sure the ip address was supplied by my DHCP server and dc1.tnet.loc pings ok Set the internet time server to my linux server (aka dc1.tnet.loc) Used ksetup to configure the realm: ksetup /SetRealm TNET.LOC ksetup /AddKdc dc1.tnet.loc ksetip /SetComputerPassword MYPASSWORDHERE ksetip /MapUser * * After some googl-ing I found that DES encryption was disabled by Windows 7 by default and I turned the policy on to support DES encryption over Kerberos Then I rebooted the windows client However after doing all that I still cannot login from my Windows client. :( Looking at the logs on the server; the request looks fine and everything works great, I think the issue is that the response from the KDC is not recognized by the Windows Client and a generic login error appears: "Login Failure: User name or password is invalid". The log file for the server looks like this (I tail'ed this so I know it's happening when the Windows machine attempts the login): If I supply an invalid realm in the login window I get a completely different error message, so I don't think it's a connection problem from the client to the server? But I can't find any error logs on the Windows machine? (anyone know where these are?) If I try: runas /netonly /user:[email protected] cmd.exe everything works (although I don't get anything appear in the server logs, so I'm wondering if it's not touching the server for this??), but if I run: runas /user:[email protected] cmd.exe I get the same authentication error. Any Kerberos Gurus out there who can give me some ideas as to what to try next? pretty please?

Yet, if I disable my other DHCP server (Win2k3) and get a client to try renewing its IP lease, it times out. So I installed dhcping. No matter what options I try, including directing dhcping at my server, adding a client address in the range, adding my hardware address, it replies 'no answer'. I'm also trying -i since that seems to be more akin to what a WinXP client would try to do, based on /var/log/messages. No. theres no way to look in server's console right after when it freezes, sadly. Datacenter supporters do not really want to help about that. Server has been installed 30th july, times and dates of freezes are down there: 6 august, 0:25 18 august, 2:27 21 august, 1:25 26 august, 23:26. We decided that freezing around ??:25 isn't a hardware fault, and decided to reinstall the OS. Later, 31 august, our admin backed up all files, reinstalled Debian, and restored the backup. But then, 7 september, server went down again, at 5:05. We thought it was related to Anyone else experiencing high rates of Linux server crashes during a leap second day? and turned ntp off. But then the server went down twice again, 21 september, 17:29 and 24 september, 20:27. I called all linux admins I knew to help with solving it and they said everything is fine about configuring OS and it could be hardware only. But they dont know why it always freezes at XX:25-30. Maybe some of you know about something related to that?
