  • Adobe Reader crashes immediately after starting

    I'm running ubuntu 12.04 32 bit system. I installed adobe reader through software center but when click on the icon to start acroread it immediately crashes during showing splash window. I've also tried using terminal running command "acroread" but no gain. It even doesn't show any error massage. It should be noted that to solve the problem i've installed lsb module and ia32-libs. But my problem is not solved.

  • DELL Inspiron 9400 SD Card Reader not working on 10.11 ubuntu

    Im new in linux, just installed Ubuntu 11.10 in a Dell Inspiron 9400, everything works fine with the exception of the SD card reader, everytime I insert a card the computer doesnt do anything, its like the SD card reader is not there.     I recently got a new Droid Bionic, and it has the SD/HC card. Today, I got a new USB card reader that reads the HC format. When I plug it into my Linux Mint 11 (katya), Gnome 32-bit computer, I get this error every I try to copy or move any file off of the card onto my desktop: Error splicing file: Input/output error I don't have the problem on a Windows Vista computer.     Why does Adobe Acrobat Reader require a restart when you update it? It's a piece of software that reads PDFs. Just what else is it installing/updating that requires a total OS reboot to "complete" the installation? A bit of Googling indicates that it's to allow the OS to install the Adobe "Speed Launcher" - is this it or are there other components that are more tightly into the OS that it must absolutely have to have closed so that it can update them?

    My Lenovo x100e laptop has a "4-in-1" card reader that's supposed to handle SD/SDHC, MMC, Memory Stick and MS Pro, but I can't insert my SDHC card (a "SANDISK SECURE DIGITAL EXTREME SDHC 16GB 30MB/S"). It enters a bit and looks lite it will fit, but then it doesn't get any further in (and yes, I've tried to turn it around). It really doesn't move, and I'm afraid to break something if I push harder. Am I missing something obvious here?

    Using Firefox I was viewing a PDF file embedded within a web page, with the toolbar available. After right-clicking to deselect the toolbar (I was testing something) I cannot find a way to reinstate them. Since the toolbar is enabled by right clicking on the toolbar area, when it's disabled, it's not obvious how to reenable it. When the toolbars have been disabled and no longer visible, how do you reinstate them? Version info: Firefox 3.6.3 Adobe Reader 9.3 Kubuntu 10.04

    THe built in sd card reader on the macbook pro 8,1 (2011, early or mid i think) doesnt work AT ALL. However i read here.... https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/801034 that someone plugged in ethernet and it works. How the hell does that make a difference? There has to be some kind of better workaround? I take my laptop on the go, thats why i bought a LAPTOP. I dont want to be tethered down. Please help?

We expect that there will be 1000-5000 users (that use our app) Is a shared hosting (which currently serves almost 100 website, and it will serve 500 websites at maximum) enough for this purpose? or we should look for VPS or Dedicated hosting? So far the product has delivered the satisfaction I am expecting. However, there is one program that I'll need to ensure my productivity--an updated version of the Adobe REader. Is there any way I could get this program via Ubuntu, without using WINE? please let me know... thanks!

    I used blogspot.com and restricted its viewership to just its authors. However I cannot use Google Reader to subscribe to the RSS feed. Is there a workaround? I need to be notified somehow whenever somebody posts to that private blog. I am one of its authors. My blogspot.com allows me to set the readership to just its authors. So that is what I have done. I did not do any password protect settings at all.

    I am creating a LaTeX document in TeXnicCenter with LaTeX = PDF profile. There is a feature which allows to open and scroll auto-generated PDF to the paragraph that is under the cursor in TeXnicCenter. This works with Sumatra PDF and the feature is called "Forward search" in Profile settings, "Viewer" tab. I would like to have the same feature with Adobe Reader. Is this possible at all? Do I have to use "command line" or "DDE command" setting? What do I have to fill in "Command", "Server", "Topic" fields in the Profile settings?

    If you’re a fan of the wildly popular RPG game Skyrim, you’ve undoubtedly discovered the books sprinkled throughout the Empire. This collection brings them all together for out-of-game reading. Blogger and Skyrim fan Capaneus enjoyed reading the in-game books so much (found on the shelves of homes and otherwise scattered throughout the virtual world) that he did a little digging in the game files to turn up the source of the books. It turns out he didn’t have to dig too deeply, the files are stored as text documents (and if you have a copy of the game installed right now you could easily open them up yourself).     Instead of creating a fullblown NetBeans Platform application for doing WYSIWYG editing for EPUB, similar to Sigil, I decided to focus purely on the very narrow scope of EPUB reading. The scope is narrower and, since the application will be a lot less ambitious and smaller, a pure JavaFX implementation makes sense. When you somehow get, e.g., buy, an EPUB file, you typically read it on a tablet or mobile device. However, some people in the world, e.g., me, still have laptops. Therefore, I'm creating a small JavaFX application that unzips EPUB files, into a temp directory, and then loads them into a JavaFX WebView. Arabic support: For an application like this, simplicity is the most important thing. Very few buttons, very few options, preferably no configuration of anything. Just let the user open the EPUB file and read it, that's it, nothing fancy. CSS stylesheets and images are correctly read. It's exactly what it looks like, a reader for EPUB files. The back and forward buttons are working and you can also switch to the table of contents. When it is complete, which it pretty much is right now, publishers of EPUB files can make this small app available from their site, to simplify life for their readers, since it will run easily and well on all operating systems.

    My site is using enterprise library v 5.0. Mainly the DAAB. Some functions such as executescalar, executedataset are working as expected. The problems appear when I start to use Readers I have this function in my includes class: Public Function AssignedDepartmentDetail(ByVal Did As Integer) As SqlDataReader Dim reader As SqlDataReader Dim Command As SqlCommand = db.GetSqlStringCommand("select seomthing from somewhere where something = @did") db.AddInParameter(Command, "@did", Data.DbType.Int32, Did) reader = db.ExecuteReader(Command) reader.Read() Return reader End Function This is called from my aspx.vb like so: reader = includes.AssignedDepartmentDetail(Did) If reader.HasRows Then TheModule = reader("templatefilename") PageID = reader("id") Else TheModule = "#" End If This gives the following error on db.ExecuteReader line: Unable to cast object of type 'Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.RefCountingDataReader' to type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader'. Can anyone shed any light on how I go about getting this working. Will I always run into problems when dealing with readers via entlib?

  • Magnetic Stripe Reader over Terminal Server has random Uppercase/Lowercase nonsense

    The Magnetic Stripe Reader that I'm using and testing is just supposed to be sending keystrokes. Unfortunately, it seems to randomly be sending upper case and lower case keystrokes, sometimes substituting % for 5 and ^ for 6 and vice versa. (If you've ever programmed for a magnetic strip reader, you know that's not a good thing.) Is there something in the RDP protocol that causes this? I've got kind of a convoluted system, running XP inside virtualbox on Fedora 11 RDP'ed into a win2k3 server. It works on the XP VM and it doesn't work on the RDP'ed one. What's weirder, is that I'm not even emulating the USB drivers for my Mag Card Reader. Linux is sending keystrokes straight in to windows, and MSTSC on windows XP is sending crap to the Win2k3 server. I'm 99% certain this isn't a problem with the card reader, it has nothing to do with my programming either. (I get the same junk coming into notepad that I get coming into our software [that's why I didn't ask on SO]). And, it works with rdesktop programs other than MSTSC.exe! Needless to say, I'm in need of some RDP Guruship.

  • How to correctly deploy Adobe Reader 9.1

    Hi I have recently tried to deploy Adobe Reader 9.1 onto our network here. (SBS 2003 server and XP Workstations) I followed the instructions for the extraction of the installer and .msi and then creating a .mst transform file to set custom options. (Suppress EULA, dont create desktop icon etc) I then added the package to my deployment GPO applied the relevant .mst file and preceded to deploy accross the network. The software package is computer assigned to be installed prior to logon, to avoid user permissions issues. The package deploys correctly to computers and will run perfectly fine if you run from a shortcut, however when trying to view a pdf from within a web browser it fails with the following message. "The adobe acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again" I have found many pages on google refering to this problem, but none appear to be in relation the problems I have found. http :// kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405461.html These fixes recommend correcting a registry entry (which i should mention is missing after the deployed installation. However this does not work. Switching off display in a browser - Seems to defeat the object of fixing the problem Removing old versions - There arent any. Trying with a different user - This affects all users of all privalige levels on all computers. On my workstation I uninstalled Acrobat Reader 9.1 then reinstalled manually using the same installation source files and it works fine. has anyone sucsessfully deployed AR9.1 on their domain and if so how? For the time being I have downloaded the older 8.1.3 release and deployed this in the same way which works fine, but would like to be using the up to date version. Thanks
