  • Windows Explorer folders jumping

    Windows Explorer in Windows 7 seems to jump around more than previous versions. The directory forlders seem to want to reposition the directory "just right" in the display. So opening a subfolder can cause a significant shift in the display. Aside from annoying, this has also caused a different directory to be positioned under my cursor and a file or sub-sub-directory to be opened incorrectly. (I'm not talking here about keeping things onscreen). Any way to slow this down?

  • Windows cannot open directory with too long name created by Linux

    Hello! My laptop has two OSes: Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10. A partition of Windows 7 of format NTFS is mounted in Ubuntu. In Ubuntu, I created a directory under somehow deep path and with a long name for itself, specifically, the name for that directory is "a set of size-measurable subsets ie sigma algebra". Now in Windows, I cannot open the directory, which I guess is because of the name is too long, nor can I rename it. I was wondering if there is some way to access that directory under Windows? Better without changing the directory if possible, but will have to if necessary. Thanks and regards!   • How do I configure VMware View location-based printing to use Active Directory Groups?

    I am attempting to configure VMware View 4.5's Location-Based Printing, which leverages an included OEM version of ThinPrint, to assign printers to active directory groups. The location-based printing feature maps printers that are physically near client systems to VMware View desktops. I am using the Active Directory group policy setting AutoConnect Location-based Printing for VMware View, which is located in the Microsoft Group Policy Object Editor in the Software Settings folder under Computer Configuration. The AutoConnect Location-based Printing for VMware View appearst to be just a name translation table. It permits me to assign a specific printer or printers to an IP Range, Client Name, Mac Address, User, or User Group. I'm attempting to assign printers to active directory user groups. I have created a new active directory group for each printer that I intend to use in VMware View desktop pools. I will then assign active directory users to the active directory groups that represent each network printer. Example: doej is a member of the PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 active directory group. Using AutoConnect, I assigned the group to receive a network printer by adding PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 in the User/Group column. Problem: When doej logs in to his VDI session, the printer is not present. However, if I use a wildcard "*" in the User/Group column instead of the specific PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 active directory group, the printer is present and functions as designed. Alternatives: I have tried assigning printers to active directory groups within AutoConnect in the following ways, all unsuccesfull: PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 domainexample\PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 domainexample.local\PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 Confirmation: The information used to map the printer to the VMware View desktop is stored in a registry entry on the View desktop in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\thinprint\tpautoconnect. For each of these examples, I have reviewed the registry entry and can confirm that the desktop is receiving the information from the AutoConnect translation table. Summary: Can anyone provide an example of how to configure VMware View 4.5's Location-Based Printing so that I may assign network printers to active directory groups via the included AutoConnect tool? I would welcome a clear example of a working configuration. Thank you.

    I wish to add a command on right click menu in explorer that opens current directory with cygwin. For same I have successfully added these registries: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\classes\directory\shell\cygwin] @="c:\\cygwin\\bin\\bash.exe --login -i -c \"cd '%1'; bash\"" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\classes\drive\shell\cygwin] @="c:\\cygwin\\bin\\bash.exe --login -i -c \"cd '%1'; bash\"" but this adds the command only when on some folder or drive. I want generic right click on explorer, on which, search gives me this registry to edit: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\cygwin] @="c:\\cygwin\\bin\\bash.exe --login -i -c \"cd '%1'; bash\"" My problem lies with the value of the key, which doesnt work on %1 but on some static value like /cygdrive/c Could someone please tell me the proper way to pass current directory to the command, also please refer me some basic and advanced pages for same.   • Insanity joining Server 12.04 to Windows AD

    I've seen lots of stuff about this error on the internet, but had no luck implementing a solution. I'm trying to use Likewise-Open to join an Ubuntu Server 12.04 machine to a Windows Active Dicrectory domain controller and having absolutely no luck. I run: sudo domainjoin-cli join my.domain.gob ADMINISTRATOR and get back (after putting in the admin password): Error: DNS_ERROR_BAD_PACKET [code 0x0000251e] A bad packet was recieved from a DNS server. Potentially the requested address does not exist. I have heard that WAD insists on being your only nameserver, and in attempts to make that work, I've tried editing /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/network/interfaces but none of that has worked either. Ideas?

    I am used to open a folder from the keyboard with a shortcut. The alternatives are: Use Unity Dash with the shortcut SUPER + F to open the Dash File Lens Open Kupfer with the configured shortcut (CTRL + ALT + SPACE, in my case) Then I type the name of the folder and press ENTER if it is selected. However, the window that opens up is not active but in the background. I have to press ALT + TAB to bring it into foreground. I use Ubuntu Precise (12.04.). Question: How can I configure Ubuntu, Unity, Nautilus so newly opened windows become foreground immediately? Edit: This behavior only happens when another application is already open such as GEdit. It does not happen when the only other selectable entity is the Desktop.

    i try to check the permission granted to a directory in linux, i mean i have a directory with permission 755 berty@berty-laptop:~$ ls -l / |grep directory drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 2011-01-10 12:33 directory how can i read that permission with java? I've tried using FilePermission but though i have a directory with all the permissions (777) the FilePermission class always returns an exception java.security.AccessControlException: Access denied (java.io.FilePermission /home/directory read) at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(AccessController.java:103) at com.snippets.Check4DirectoryPermission.checker(Check4DirectoryPermission.java:50) at com.snippets.Check4DirectoryPermission.main(Check4DirectoryPermission.java:70) is there another way to do this?
