  • Monitor occasionally doesn't display properly

    Hi, I am using dual monitors, and this behavior has occured on 2 different computers (using the same monitors). When I turn the monitors off, and then on again after a while, 1 monitor turns on, displays the Dell logo etc. but doesn't display the windows login. It is just a blank page, and then the green light turns orange. Turning it on/off many times or just waiting a while eventually results in it working again, but I am very confused why!

  • Set up tunnel to HE.net and now only ipv6.google.com works, but other sites ping fine.

    I'm setting up IPv6 using my router which is running OpenWRT, version Backfire 10.03.1-rc4. I made a tunnel using Hurricane Electric's tunnel broker and set it up on the router and I'm using RADVD to hand out IPv6 addresses. My problem is that on computers on the network, I can only access ipv6.google.com using a browser, but other sites seem to be loading forever and won't open in any browser. I can ping and traceroute to them fine, but can't open them with a browser. I can open any site normally with a browser from the router. Stopping firewall service on the router doesn't help, so it's probably not a firewall issue. All AAAA records resolve fine, so it's probably not a DNS issue. Computers on the network get their IPv6 addresses fine, so it's probably not a radvd issue. Similar setup worked fine for SixXs, but I'm having problems with my PoP there, so I decided to move to HE.     I'm trying to push wifi settings to client computers through Active Directory, something that will add a defaul SSID to connect to and a WPA password. The only thing I've heard of is a script by Aruba labs called wificfg_xp.exe on a couple of forums (Here and here), but the link to the download page is always broken. Does any one know of an alternative way to download this file, or another way to push these settings with AD?

  • Legality of using a burned CD with a legal CD-Key?

    I have a friend that keeps a collection of burned Windows CD's; 2000, XP, Vista which he uses to repair peoples computers with. Now he justifies this by saying he uses the CD-Key on their OEM sticker that came with their PC. As long as the installation validates the installation should be 100% legal. Is this true? I've always been under the impression you had to use the original CD/DVD that came with the computer. Thanks in advance.

    With a number of laptops out there the likelihood of one being stolen is high. What methods, preferably free, can be used to secure the data on the computers? The laptops do not have any special hardware on them, and generally keep their user data in a dropbox folder. One small step taken is to have the the dropbox folder encrypted by Windows 7. Any additional suggestions are greatly appreciated. The data in the dropbox folder is sensitive.

  • Basic OpenVPN setup not working

    I am attempting to connect 2 win7 (x64+ x32) computers (there will be 4 in total) using OpenVPN. Right now they are on the same network but the intention is to be able to access the client remotely regardless of its location. The Problem I am having is I am unable to ping or tracert between the two computers. They seem to be on different subnets even though I have the mask set to 255.255.255.0. The server ends up as 10.8.0.1 255.255.255.252 and the client 10.8.0.6 255.255.255.252. And a third ends up as 10.8.0.10. I don't know if this a Windows 7 problem or something I have wrong in my config.   • Exchange 2010 outlook anywhere - shows internal URL

    I am setting up an Exchange 2010 SP2 for a customer. However, the server address that the server returns with autodiscover is wrong, as it points to the internal domain (.local) - and not the external address. How do I change this? Here's an image to describe what I mean: It is the upper field that is wrong. I dont want users to enable the RPC over HTTP-thing, as the users know barely nothing about computers.   • Snow Leopard and a Windows network

    I have just added a MBP to my home network and while I can connect to the internet etc, i cannot browse my home networked computers. I have already added a new location in my Network preferences yet when I goto the WINS tab, there is no dropdown to select my workgroup so i manually enter it. From what I have read, once I go to the finder and open the network, i should see the workgroup and systems...yet i do not. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    I have a Spanish keyboard on my notebook, but I use it mostly for English and Chinese writing. This is how I configured the languages: However, Windows added some layouts on its own (probably when connecting via Remote Desktop to computers with different languages/layouts): Those layouts are all part of the AltShift cycle, which is extremely annoying. How can I remove ENG/US and ESP, considering they don't show in the configuration list? Is there a way to prevent them from being added again?

  • Sysinternal's Process Explorer v14 doesn't show network activity

    The new version of Process Explorer shows network activity history, but it doesn't in one of my computers. This particular PC runs Windows XP SP3 and it has just been reformatted so everything is "fresh". I have even installed WinPCap and Microsoft Network monitor, in case some of these drivers were necessary, but the graph stays in 0. Any ideas why this could happen? I would ask in Sysinternal's forum, but I really don't want to register in yet another forum.
